The story of Yang Fan
Yang Fan was born with a terrible disease. It is impossible for him to perform everyday tasks, like walking or turning over in bed by himself. Even with all these challenges, Yang has set a big goal for himself. He wants to become a great scientist like Hawking.
With the help of his parents, Yang went to school and became a top student. But it was not easy. The disease caused him great pain, so sometimes he had to lie down during lessons. Taking notes was also hard for him. He did not want to disappoint either his family or himself, so he always tried his best. After years of hard work, Yang was finally accepted into a top university in China.
Thanks to his strong will, Yang finally got a chance to continue his dream. He does not need to become another Hawking—just a better self. Trying to improve ourselves along the way is also a success.

Sample writing
Difficulty leads to success
I used to have trouble with English writing. I couldn’t organize ideas clearly and often made grammar mistakes. My scores were always low and it made me worried.
I asked my teacher for help. She advised me to read short English passages every day and copy good sentences. I also practised writing a short paragraph daily. Whenever I met problems, I turned to my teacher or classmates.
After three months, my writing improved a lot. I did better in exams. This experience shows that hard work and the spirit of never giving up are always key to success.
Homework
1.Create your own fact file about a person who never gives up. You can write about famous people, your family members or your classmates.
2.Write a complete article following Amy’s writing model. Try to use all the useful expressions on the note.
