When Miss Li asked us how we had done in the exam, we were all sad and kept quiet at once.
“Look at your papers, boys and girls,” Miss Li said as she walked around the classroom. “Oh, why did everyone get a zero on this question? Do you know why you got such grades in the exam?”
We looked back at the question and waited to get the right answer.
“Classmates, look at these questions seriously and find out their relationships. Then pay attention to the sixth question,” Miss Li smiled and said. “Since no one has ever seen what it looks like and scientists have not discovered its exact history, where did the information come from? Therefore, only by filling in the false information (虚假信息) can you get a good grade on this test!”
“Then do you still think the question is difficult?” The teacher added.
We all sighed (叹气) and said, “No, what a pity! We fell into the teacher’s trick!” But after thinking for a while, I realized that the real reason was that we were too busy writing answers without thinking. We got into the teacher’s trick from the beginning.
We were taught an important lesson by Miss Li. Looking back, if I had thought about it carefully at first, I wouldn’t have gotten such a poor grade. If I hadn’t only focused on writing answers, I wouldn’t have learned such a lesson.
From then on, I decided to read all the papers before writing answers during exams. Even for my homework, I usually think more than before and then I go for it. This way helps me a lot in my study and life.
26. How did the students feel after the test?
A. Sad and serious. B. Angry and unclear.
C. Surprised and mad. D. Nervous and excited.
27. Why did the students get the sixth question wrong?
A. Because the question was too difficult.
B. Because they didn’t spend time thinking.
C. Because the teacher played a joke on them.
D. Because they had no time to write the answers.
28. Which “lesson” in the following sentences has the closest meaning with the underlined “lesson” in Paragraph 7?
A. The coursebook is divided into 30 lessons.
B. The teacher explained the lesson clearly.
C. I learned a valuable lesson from my mistake.
D. Students take their painting lessons outside.
29. What is the correct order according to the text?
a. The writer changed his learning habits.
b. Miss Li talked about the students’ grades.
c. The writer understood the teacher’s trick.
d. Everyone got a zero on the same question.
A. a‑c‑b‑d B. d‑c‑b‑a C. d‑b‑c‑a D. b‑a‑d‑c
30. What can we learn from the text?
A. Actions speak louder than words. B. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
C. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. D. Think twice about what you say or do.
C
It grows easily in countries with a warm climate. Many people think it’s a tree, but it’s really a grass. There are more than 1,000 species (种) of this plant around the world.
It has been used to build houses, bridges, tables, chairs and so on. It can be used in place of steel and wood, and it has a much lower cost. Many people think of it as a product of yesterday, but it could easily become a star product of the future. Why?
Well, for one thing, it’s easy to grow. And it grows very quickly. How about three centimeters an hour! That’s fast. But wait! One species can grow more than one meter in one day! And another species can grow up to 50 meters in height. Best of all, it can reach full height in about two months. In comparison, it takes about 50 years for a tree to mature to a height for it to be harvested (收割). Another unbelievable thing about this grass is that when you cut a stem (茎) from it, a new stem quickly grows back.
For another, in fact, studies have shown that this grass is stronger than the wood from some of the world’s strongest trees. It’s lightweight, easy to work with and cheap to produce. And, it’s good for the environment. The list goes on and on.
One more thing: there is only one animal on this planet that eats almost nothing but it. Do you know what that animal is? It’s a protected species. It lives in China. It’s black and white, and very cute. You guessed it—the panda!
