Do you read or write reviews online? Many people do. They write them for products, restaurants, videos and more. How important are online reviews? Our yearly customer survey found that 85% of the customers think reviews help them decide whether to make a purchase (购买).
But not every review is fair or honest. Some are fake (假的) five-star reviews, some are impolite, and some depend on personal standards. If you’re reading a review, think for yourself. Can you trust it? If you’re writing a review, will you take it seriously? Ken and Emily’s conversation may give you some inspiration.
Ken and Emily are having lunch at a coffee shop during a trip to another city.
Emily: Don’t you think the food and service are really good today?
Ken: I do. My coffee is great, and the staff are friendly.
Emily: I think I’ll leave a review for this coffee shop.
Ken: Do you think people will read it?
Emily: Of course. You read reviews before you try a new place, don’t you?
Ken: Yes. I read both positive and negative ones.
Emily: Me too. They help me decide whether to try a place out.
Ken: Helpful reviews can make a big difference.
Emily: For this coffee shop, I’ll say what I ordered, how the service was and how clean this place was.
Ken: That’s a good idea. Have you ever written negative reviews?
Emily: Hardly ever! I usually leave five-star reviews.
Ken: People are often guided by reviews from other people. So, if something really goes wrong, I’ll try to be kind and explain how it can be improved.
Emily: You have a point! A review should be honest.
People place great importance on online customers’ reviews. Listen to both sides—that’s how you see the full picture. And when you leave a review, stick to the facts and pay attention to your manners.
29. Why are online reviews important?
A. They are made by 85% of the customers. B. They provide the experts’ suggestions online.
C. They help people make purchasing decisions. D. They depend on people’s personal preference.
30. How can we leave a helpful review according to the text?
A. By avoiding bad experiences. B. By telling the truth in a kind way.
C. By writing as soon as possible. D. By asking sellers to write reviews.
31. Which review for the coffee shop is probably from Emily?
A. Delicious dishes with low prices. B. Sunny beach, convenient transportation.
C. Tasty coffee, clean shop, nice staff. D. Something wrong with food and service.
32. Why is the conversation mentioned?
A. To stress the importance of writing travel guides. B. To recommend a nice coffee shop at a new place.
C. To show online reviews should be taken seriously. D. To explain the process of writing different reviews.
33. Which opinion may the writer agree with?
A. Reviews should help readers see the full picture. B. Reviews that are impolite help sellers to improve.
C. Reviews should be kind and make sellers feel happy. D. Reviews are more important for sellers than for readers.

On a hot summer afternoon, cities and towns are usually hotter than the nearby countryside areas. This is not just a feeling. Some cities can be as much as 7℃ hotter. Scientists call this the “urban heat island” effect (城市热岛效应).
This effect is closely connected with the materials used in city buildings, which usually take in large amounts of heat from sunlight during the day. Instead of cooling quickly after sunset, these materials slowly give out the stored heat back into the air. As a result, cities remain warm for a lot longer. In certain situations, high temperatures can even be deadly.
To cut urban heat, many cities have turned to trees, which work like natural air conditioners in two main ways. First, they provide shade (树荫), preventing streets and buildings from heating up too much. Second, trees cool the air through a process called transpiration—water inside the leaves enters the air, lowering temperatures nearby.
To understand how effective trees really are, researchers studied air temperature and tree cover data (数据) from nearly 9,000 cities and the findings were surprising. Trees reduce the “urban heat island” effect by almost 50% all over the world. Since cities are usually 1 ~ 3℃ hotter than nearby countryside areas, trees can lower temperatures by about 0.5~1.5℃ in many places, which can have an influence on city heat during the long hot summer.
However, scientists warn that planting trees alone cannot completely solve the problem. Even with large planting projects, urban trees may cut down only a bit of heat by the middle of this century. Because of this, experts believe cities need more solutions. For example, reflective building materials can help. At the same time, ways of cutting greenhouse gas (气体) remain necessary.
Trees are powerful and valuable. They cool cities, improve air quality and make urban life more comfortable. But in a warming world, they work best as part of a larger plan rather than as the only answer.
34. What makes cities hotter than countryside areas?
A. Water pollution. B. Urban buildings. C. Strong sunlight. D. Waste materials.
35. What is paragraph 3 mainly about regarding trees?
A. How they cut greenhouse gas. B. How they clear air in cities.
C. How they cool the nearby areas. D. How they protect the environment.
36. Why does the writer list numbers in paragraph 4?
A. To collect the data of tree cover. B. To show the influence of trees.
C. To praise researchers’ hard work. D. To make predictions of the effect.
37. What does the writer suggest in the last two paragraphs?
A. More plans are needed to cut heat.
B. Trees help to solve every problem.
C. Experts have done enough research.
D. Green spaces will increase greatly.
38. Which section of a website is the text probably taken from?
A. Travel. B. Technology. C. Custom. D. Environment.

The ocean covers most of our planet, yet we know very little about it. Our ocean is as mysterious as it is beautiful. In fact, we have better maps of Mars than we do of the ocean floor. Why? Exploring (探索) the ocean is a really hard job. There’s a lot of ocean—about 1.4 billion trillion litres (升). That’s 1,400,000,000,000,000,000,000!
★ . One of their most important goals is to learn about coral reefs (珊瑚礁), which are home to lots of sea plants and animals.
Do you know that coral is an animal, not a plant? Tiny animals called polyps (珊瑚虫) build the hard part of the coral as a home to live in. They are called “architects” in the ocean.
However, many coral reefs around the world are in danger. That’s where a clever method called “coral gardening” comes in—giving reefs a second chance. Here’s how it works in four steps:
First, scientists collect small pieces of coral from coral reefs. Then they break them into even smaller ones—tiny pieces grow faster. After that, they place the pieces in lab-controlled or underwater nurseries (苗圃), where tiny pieces are taken good care of. Finally, once strong enough, they are planted onto rock or man-made reefs so that they can grow on their own.
A typical example is the L-shaped Reef. Since 1982, scientists have placed old subway cars into the sea. These strange “homes” have created a huge man-made reef. Now, polyps and fish are moving in!
To know more about the ocean, a volunteer, Paul Green started the Big Bag Project in 2025. It calls on beach visitors to help collect information on plastics and water temperature through a bag which is connected with an app. Next time you go to the beach, take a bag, pick up some rubbish, and have a closer connection with the ocean.
39. What does the number in paragraph 1 tell us about the ocean?
A. How much salt there is. B. How cold the deep ocean is.
C. How large the ocean is. D. How many sea plants there are.
40. Which of the following can be put in ★ ?
A. Some sea animals are making a comeback
B. The ocean is full of wonders to be discovered
C. But many scientists are taking on this challenge
D. So protecting the ocean is everyone’s responsibility
41. What does the underlined word “architects” mean?
A. People who build houses. B. Machines that carry things.
C. Workers who collect coral. D. Animals that live in the sea.
42. In the picture CORAL GARDENING, what is the third step?
A. Breaking. B. Nursing. C. Planting. D. Collecting.
43. What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To introduce the Big Bag Project.
B. To show the hidden beauty of the ocean.
C. To teach us how to become an ocean biologist.
D. To encourage more people to explore the ocean.

Most teenagers receive pocket money from their parents. They often spend this money on snacks, games, or saving up for something special. But should they manage their pocket money? Let’s see some different ideas.
Agree
Disagree
·It helps teenagers set goals. For example, if Li Ling wants to save 60 yuan to get a Mother’s Day gift in 5 weeks, she has to think about how much she should save each week. It’s like making a plan and sticking to it.
·It helps learn to say no. For example, choosing between delicious snacks and a great book helps teenagers practice the skill of making choices. And this skill helps them understand what matters more to them.
·It gives a sense of independence. They feel proud when they can buy something with their own money.
·Teenagers aren’t good at dealing with money. They might not know how to use money wisely. They may spend it on something they don’t really need.
·If a student has a lot of money in his bag, a fight might happen when someone wants to take the money. This may cause safety risks.
·Many teenagers think it a little hard to manage money. If parents manage the pocket money, teenagers don’t have to make sure they have enough money for everything. This makes students less stressed and lets them spend more time learning.
Then would you like to manage your own money? In fact, managing pocket money can be hard at first, but it’s a valuable skill. It will help you grow up to be smart with money.

A. To stress the importance of writing travel guides. B. To recommend a nice coffee shop at a new place.

C

D
【答案】39. C 40. C 41. A 42. B 43. D

I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble managing your pocket money. Don’t worry. Many teenagers have the same problem. Here are some ideas that may help you.
First, try using a dream tin. Write down what you really want on the tin, and put some money into it every time you receive your pocket money. This helps you save for important things instead of spending on unnecessary snacks. Second, keep a record of your spending.
