Passage 1
阅读下面的材料,根据内容回答问题。
In September 2026, a speech by a school principal became very popular online. The principal’s name is Jin Chengyue. He works at Yanshan Ethnic Middle School in Wenshan, Yunnan Province. His speech at the school’s opening ceremony was 8 minutes long, but the video has been watched more than 250 million times. Many people said they were moved to tears.
In his speech, Principal Jin talked about three important things. First, he said schools should treat teachers well. He believes that only when teachers feel warm and respected can they teach students well. He did many things to help teachers, such as cutting down unnecessary meetings and forms. He also gave teachers two half-days of paid leave each month.
Second, he asked teachers and parents to pay attention to students’ growth beyond grades. He said that not every seed needs to grow into a tall tree. Some students may not go to university, but they can still be useful people. He mentioned that some graduates of his school run restaurants, sell barbecue, or do housework for others. He said any child who works hard and is kind should be respected.
Third, he said schools should be both strict and kind. Rules must be followed, but teachers should also be gentle with students. He said good education is neither too strict nor too loose.
Principal Jin’s speech has been praised by many people, including education officials in Beijing. It has also made people think about what education is really for.
1.How long did Principal Jin’s speech last?
2.How did Principal Jin help teachers at his school? (List two ways)

Passage 3
阅读下面的短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
This term, students and teachers in some junior high schools have seen some changes. These changes happened because AI tools stepped into classes.
By using AI to make personalized exercises and exams, teachers are able to help each student in different ways.
When students finish a unit, teachers can pick up different questions online offered by AI. It helps create a set of exercises for the unit. Doing this can make students learn knowledge better. “We don’t need to carry all the heavy exercise books anymore,” said 14-year-old Sophia.
After students complete the exercise questions, teachers use the AI tool to check their answers. It will provide data and graphics (图表) to help teachers understand both the performance of the whole class and each student’s progress. “Our teacher no longer explains all the questions one by one. Instead, she looks at the common mistakes and provides one-on-one help for every one of us,” said 15-year-old Emily.
Also, depending on their performance in past exams, students can get personalized exercises or homework made by AI. So students can spend less time on what they have already known and have more time to study what they don’t know.
“I used to have a notebook where I wrote down my mistakes so that I could study them,” said 16-year-old Jennifer. “But now, AI does it for me.”

Passage 4
My grandma always tells me stories about her childhood life. She often says life today is totally different from what it was sixty years ago. I can feel the great changes of the world from her words and my own life experience.
When Grandma was a little girl, her family was very poor. There was no electric fan or TV in her house. In hot summer, she could only cool herself with a hand fan. The roads in her village were muddy. When it rained, walking outside became really hard. People mainly went out on foot or by old bike. It took hours to get to the nearest town.
Now everything has changed. My hometown has wide and clean roads. Buses and electric bikes are everywhere. Many families even have private cars. We have air-conditioners (空调) to keep cool in summer and warm in winter. We can watch TV, surf the Internet and talk with friends far away online every day.
Grandma says these amazing changes come with the development of our society. We no longer worry about food and clothes, and we have more chances to learn and travel. I feel lucky to live in such a great era. I will study hard to make our life better in the future.

Passage 5
阅读下面的材料,根据内容回答问题。
Was it possible for a Chinese engineer to build a railway through the mountains more than a hundred years ago? Many foreigners at that time said no. Zhan Tianyou proved them wrong.
Zhan was born in Guangzhou in 1861. At the age of twelve, he became one of the first Chinese children sent to study in the United States. He worked so hard that he was admitted to Yale University, where he studied railway engineering. After returning home, however, he found few chances to use his knowledge, because almost no railways in China were designed by Chinese engineers at that time.
In 1905, the Qing government decided to build a railway from Beijing to Zhangjiakou. Several foreign companies wanted the project, and some even said mockingly (嘲讽地) that the Chinese engineer who could build it “had not been born yet”. Zhan took the job.
The biggest challenge lay in the steep (陡峭的) mountains around Badaling. The railway had to climb nearly six hundred metres within a short distance, but trains at that time were not powerful enough for such a slope (斜坡). After careful surveys, Zhan designed a clever “人”-shaped track. The train would move forward up one slope, then backward up another, climbing higher step by step, just like someone walking up stairs.
He also refused to copy foreign designs blindly. Based on his own surveys, he shortened some tunnels and chose safer routes, saving both money and time. In 1909, the railway was completed two years ahead of schedule and cost less than planned.
Today, a statue of Zhan Tianyou stands beside the Badaling Great Wall. He is remembered not only as the father of China’s railways, but also as an example showing that confidence and creativity can really move mountains.
1.How old was Zhan Tianyou when he was sent to study in the United States?
2.How did Zhan Tianyou deal with the biggest challenge around Badaling?
3.According to the passage, what can move mountains?
4.What can you learn from Zhan Tianyou for your own study? Give your reason (s). Write 30 words or more.
【答案】1.He was twelve / 12 years old. 2.He designed a clever “人”‑shaped track after careful surveys. 3.Confidence and creativity (can move mountains). 4.We should be hard‑working, confident and creative in our study. Zhan Tianyou worked hard and solved difficult problems with creative ideas. We shouldn’t give up when facing difficulties. We need to think independently instead of copying others’ answers blindly. (开放性试题,答案不唯一,合理即可)
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了詹天佑凭借智慧与创造力主持修建京张铁路,为中国工程师赢得尊重的故事。
【详解】
1.根据第二段“At the age of twelve, he became one of the first Chinese children sent to study in the United States.”可知十二岁时,他成为最早一批被派往美国留学的中国孩童之一。
2.根据第四段“After careful surveys, Zhan designed a clever “人”-shaped track.”可知经过仔细勘测,詹天佑设计出巧妙的“人”字形轨道。题干问“如何解决八达岭最大难题”,核心办法就是勘测后设计“人”字形轨道。
3.根据最后一段“…but also as an example showing that confidence and creativity can really move mountains.”
Passage 1
阅读下面短文,并根据阅读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词,每个空只填一个单词。
Strawberries are nice and delicious, but you have to pick them carefully, because they get hurt easily. Nowadays, many teenagers are just like strawberries. They easily lose control when they face difficulties. They don’t know what to do with difficulties when they are in trouble. There is a name for them—strawberry children.
Why do many students lose control so easily? Many students are the only child in their family. Parents do almost everything for them in their daily life, grandparents always give them what they want, and schools pay more attention to their grades instead of developing their personalities.
Wang Ran, 13 years old, is from Guangdong. His mum hardly criticizes him and he always feels good about himself. When a teacher criticized him strictly, he felt surprised and sad. Then he began to doubt his ability.
Students should learn how to make themselves mentally strong. A youth worker said, “When you are in trouble, don’t ask for help too quickly. You should try to work out problems first by yourself. Take part in sports and many activities in society actively. That can help you become mentally strong.”
Growing up is not simply a happy process. Pains also go along with it. The most important thing is facing the pains bravely and learning from them.
Strawberry children
What strawberry children are like

【答案】
1.facing 2.deal 3.Why 4.nothing 5.less 6.Advice/Suggestions/Tips 7.Avoid 8.solve 9.social 10.matters
2.原文第一段明确表述“They don’t know what to do with difficulties when they are in trouble(当他们遇到困难时,他们不知道如何处理困难)”,do with的同义短语固定短语deal with(意为“应对、处理”)与how连用,空格前为不定式符号to,因此直接填入动词原形deal。
3.表格中该栏右侧罗列了三条青少年容易情绪失控的原因,对应原文第二段的主题句“Why do many students lose control so easily?”,此处需要填入Why,表示“他们容易失控的原因”,句首单词首字母要大写。
4.原文第二段提到“Parents do almost everything for them in their daily life”,即父母几乎包办了孩子的所有事务,等同于几乎不让孩子做任何事,结合空格前的“let their children do”,表达“什么都不用做”的含义,因此填nothing。
5.原文第二段说明“schools pay more attention to their grades instead of developing their personalities”,说明学校更看重成绩、对性格培养的关注度更低,句中出现了than表比较,因此填入little的比较级less,符合“对性格的关注少于对成绩的关注”的语义。
7.原文第四段提到“When you are in trouble, don’t ask for help too quickly”,即遇到困境时不要急于求助,等同于“避免过快求助”,此处为祈使句的开头,需要填入动词原形Avoid“避免”,句首单词首字母要大写。
8.原文第四段说明“You should try to work out problems first by yourself”,其中固定短语work out problems和solve problems为同义表达,都表示“解决问题”,空格前为不定式符号to,因此直接填入动词原形solve。
9.原文第四段提到“Take part in sports and many activities in society actively”,此处需要修饰名词activities的定语,将介词短语in society转换为形容词social“社会的”,构成固定搭配social activities(意为“社会活动”)。
Passage 2
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成表格,每空不超过三个词。
What can we do to be a great student? Read the following five traits (特征) all great students have.
They ask questions.
Most teachers want students to ask questions when they do not understand what has been taught. It is truly the only way a teacher knows whether students really understand something. Good students aren’t afraid to ask questions because they know that if they do not understand what the teacher said, it may have a bad effect on their study.
They’re problem solvers.
Problem-solving is an important skill that schools have to work on developing. Those students who do have true problem-solving abilities are able to face different challenges.
They work hard.
The perfect student isn’t necessarily the smartest one. The hard-working students will finally be the most successful in life. Being a hard-working student means completing homework on time, putting effort into schoolwork, realising weaknesses and looking for ways to improve.
They seize opportunities (抓住机会).
In our country, every child has free public education. Unluckily, not everyone makes full use of that. It is true that every child must go to school for some time, but that doesn’t mean that every student seizes that opportunity and tries hard. However, the best students make full use of the opportunities.
They can be trusted.
No one wants to get on with people whom they cannot trust. Good students take opportunities seriously to show that they can be trusted because they know winners never cheat.
A great student
A questioner
1 is the only way to check if the students acquire (掌握) the knowledge.

【导语】本文围绕如何成为一名优秀的学生展开,详细介绍了优秀学生普遍具备的5项核心特质,包括敢于主动提问、是问题解决者、勤奋努力、主动把握机会、诚实守信值得信赖等。
【详解】
1.原文第二段提到“It is truly the only way a teacher knows whether students really understand something”,这里的it指代前文的学生提问,作主语需要变为动名词形式,因此填“Asking questions”。
2.对应原文的第二个特质“They’re problem solvers”,和表格左侧的“A questioner”等结构保持一致,因此填“A problem solver”。
3.原文第三个特质“They work hard”提到勤奋的学生要“realising weaknesses and looking for ways to improve”,因此填“weaknesses”。
4.原文第四个特质“They seize opportunities”提到“However, the best students make full use of the opportunities.”,因此填“make full use”。
5.原文第五个特质“They can be trusted.”提到“No one wants to get on with people whom they cannot trust”,因此填“trust”。
Passage 3
阅读下面的短文并根据其内容,在表格中的1-7题的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词;8—10题按照题目要求作答
PEER PRESSURE
Peers are people who are about the same age as you. Peer pressure is when one or more friends or people of your own age make you feel stressed to do something. You feel as if you have to do that thing because your peers are doing it, or are trying to make you do it.
Good peer pressure is when you feel pressured to do something good. You might do something good for yourself, for others, or for the environment. Bad peer pressure is when you feel pressured to do something you shouldn’t do. For example, it might be something that goes against rules, something dangerous, or something bad for your health. It might also be something that goes against your values, or what you believe is good or right.
If a friend tries to pressure you to do something, you might feel you should do it to please your friend. You might even feel that the person will not be your friend if you do not do it. People often want to be accepted by their peers and not feel as if they stand out because they are different in some ways. Sometimes people are afraid others will make fun of them if they do not do what everyone else is doing.
Here are some questions to ask yourself when you feel peer pressure to do something:
• Could I get into trouble for doing this?
• Might doing this hurt myself or another person, or hurt someone’s feelings?
• Does this go against my values?
• Will I feel sorry or embarrassed if my family, teachers, or others find out about it?
If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you are feeling bad peer pressure. If people keep pressuring you, say, “I do not want to talk about it anymore.” Then walk away and feel proud that you made a good decision.

Passage 4
阅读短文,根据短文内容完成表格。
A journey of self-discovery
As a young child, I believed that being popular was the most important thing. I thought having many friends and getting noticed mattered a lot. But when I became a teenager, my thoughts started to change.
I realised that trying to be popular was stressful. I was trying to act like someone I was not. The friends I had were not true friends. They liked me because I was popular, not because we truly cared about each other. I often felt lonely, even when I was surrounded by people. It was hard to keep acting. I felt like I wasn’t myself.
One day, my teacher said something. It stayed with me for a long time. “Being kind, learning, growing and having real friends is more important than being popular.” Her words made me think deeply about what really matters in life.
I started to focus on my studies and personal growth instead of trying to be liked by everyone. I built stronger friendships. They were built on respect and understanding, not on popularity. These friendships made me feel supported and valued.
Changing my view didn’t happen overnight, and it wasn’t easy. But as I grow, I see that popularity doesn’t define (界定) who I am. What truly matters is being kind, staying true to yourself, learning and having real friends. Now, I focus on becoming a better version (版本) of myself every day. Life is more meaningful when you live it honestly. I’m still learning and growing, and I’m excited to see what’s next.

How to Make a Good Study Plan
For Grade 9 students, having a good study plan is very important. It helps you use your time efficiently and achieve better grades. Here is how you can make a great one.
First, set clear goals. Do not just say “I will study hard.” Instead, write down specific goals, such as “I will memorize 20 new English words every day.” Breaking big goals into small tasks makes them easier to finish.
Second, arrange your time wisely. You should study the most difficult subject when you are most energetic. For example, many students find that they can focus better in the morning, so they do their math problems then. Also, do not spend too much time ___▲____ just one subject.
Third, remember to take short breaks. Studying for 45 to 50 minutes and then taking a 5-10 minute break helps your brain rest. You can walk around or drink some water during the break.
Finally, check your progress regularly. At the end of each week, look back at what you have learned. If something is not working, change your plan. A good plan is not fixed; it should be flexible (灵活的).
1.Why is it important for Grade 9 students to have a good study plan?
2.What should you do first when making a study plan?
3.请结合文意,在文中 ▲ 处填入适当的词,使句意通顺、连贯。

A disabled man who makes clay pieces on the streets of Chengdu has become popular across the country.

Since he married and had three children to take care of, he thought he must find a new way to make a living by himself.
One day, Mi saw an artist making clay pieces in the street. He was interested and decided to learn it. Then he asked the artist to teach him how to make those things. Seeing that Mi didn’t have hands, the artist didn’t accept his request at first. But Mi kept on asking many times. The artist was touched by his resolution and finally decided to teach him.
It was a big challenge for Mi to learn the skills. At the beginning, he could only make simple clay pieces like flowers for the whole afternoon. And his arms were sore after lots of practice. However, he never thought about giving up.
Finally, he learned to make clay pieces in a way that was suitable for himself. He changed the material used to make figures. And he always made cartoon figures, which were cuter and easier to make. Now, after thousands of hours of practice, he can make one clay figure in seven minutes and make about thirty clay pieces a day.
Today, Mi can not only make a living by making clay pieces as he used to hope, but also have fun in what he does. Whenever he sits on the ground to make clay pieces, many people will quickly come to watch him. Mi is full of hope for a better future, as he knows his hard work will pay off.

We had to leave at noon. Everyone waved their hands and said goodbye to the elderly. On my way back, I was thinking that in this world, there are so many people and they should be looked after well. It’s time to do something for them.

Imagine opening your history textbook and seeing Confucius, Leonardo da Vinci, or Marie Curie step out of the pages to talk to you! Thanks to AI (artificial intelligence), this amazing scene is becoming real in classrooms around the world.
The Talking 3D Confucius. At Wuhan Gangcheng No.4 Middle School, students often chat with a 3D animated Confucius(3D动画孔子). One student asked, “Does ‘ren’ (kindness) still matter in a world full of competition?” The “digital Confucius” smiled and said, “Kindness helps people live together peacefully. This isn’t magic——it’s AI! Teachers use tools like Jimeng and Keling to turn flat textbook pictures into lively characters. For example, the poet Li Bai can recite his poems with gentle expressions.
AI Makes Art Come Alive. In Nanjing’s Stone Shadow Art Museum, AI is changing how we see old Chinese paintings. When visitors shine a special flashlight on ink-and-wash mountain paintings, they turn into colorful modern art scenes. “It’s like the past is talking to us,” says student Wang Lin.
AI in the Classroom. AI also helps students learn by themselves. A smart system gives different learning materials based on what you ask. In a history class about the Maya, students watch AI-made videos to see how climate changes affected ancient cities. “History isn’t just boring dates now,” says Wu Boyu.
Problems and Warnings. But AI isn’t all perfect. Some people use it to change historical characters in bad ways. “We need rules to stop this,” says teacher Miss Chen. She also reminds students, “Don’t forget to talk to your classmates face-to-face. Traditional ways of learning are still important!”
The Future with AI. What’s next for AI? Maybe students will use it to create digital art shows or explore space from their classrooms. As one teacher says, “Technology isn’t the goal. It’s a tool to help every student learn better.”
From old textbooks to smart screens. AI is making learning an exciting journey. Who knows? The next time you open a book, a historical figure might just wave at you!

1.Why have some junior high schools changed this term?
2.What doesn’t Sophia need to carry any more?
3.What can AI provide for teachers after students finish their exercises?
4.What is the main idea of the passage?

Passage 3

A disabled man who makes clay pieces on the streets of Chengdu has become popular across the country.
The man, called Mi, lost his hands years ago. He was hurt in an accident and had to cut his hands off. Since then, he has had to live with only his arms. However, he didn’t give in to difficulties. He learned to eat and get dressed by himself after resting for a year.

Scientists found that plants can make sounds.
The scientist Lily Hadany and her team recorded (录制) tomato plants at different times. It showed that the plants made ultrasounds (超声波). Humans could only hear them with the help of a computer.
As the scientists studied the sounds, they began to find some interesting facts. Plants made different sounds at different times. They hardly made sounds when they had enough water, but as the earth got drier, they made more sounds. Scientists also found that plants made sounds when they got hurt. When scientists cut a part of stem from the plants, the plants made sounds. But the sounds weren’t the same as when the plants needed water.
Some scientists trained a computer AI system to identify (识别) the different kinds of sounds. It could find the difference between plants those needed water and with cuts. It means that one day we may use these sounds to find out what problem they are having. That could be very helpful to farmers.

In our everyday life, we sometimes make mistakes. Some mistakes are not so serious. However, if a mistake causes a few big problems, maybe you will regret for the rest of your life. So what’s the best way to avoid making mistakes? The best answer is to have self-examination about ourselves.
Self-examination helps us know ourselves well. Just as the old Chinese saying goes, “Every day I examine myself three times.” If we do as follows, we will have a better understanding of ourselves.
Self-examination makes sure our next success. We all want to be successful. The problem is when we make mistakes, what should we do? Is it feeling angry with others? Or is it to lock ourselves in the room and not to communicate with others? Clearly, the answer is no. We should examine our mistakes so that we can know our disadvantages. Then we can find different ways to improve ourselves.
Self-examination makes us popular. Pointing out other people’s shortcomings may hurt their feelings. But finding our own ones doesn’t bring any harm to ourselves. Instead, it does good to us. People will think that they have good friends who are always very honest. And people around us will enjoy doing things with us.
We should learn to have self-examination about ourselves in our study and daily life. There is no doubt that we could get more from it.
