Home is a special place for everyone. What makes your home “sweet home”? For different people, the answer is different.
For 13-year-old Li Mei, her home is sweet because of her family. Every evening, her family sits in the living room together—her dad reads newspapers, her mom watches TV, and she does her homework. Sometimes, they play “treasure hunt” games—her mom hides small gifts (like biscuits or pencils) and Li Mei and her brother look for them. “It’s fun! We always laugh a lot,” Li Mei says.
For 14-year-old Tom, his home is sweet because of his bedroom. He decorated it himself—he put up posters of his favorite football players on the walls, and made paper-cuts with his grandma’s help. “My bedroom is my favorite place. I can listen to music, read books or just relax there,” Tom says.
For Mrs. Wang, a neighbor of Li Mei, her home is sweet because of the community. Every Saturday morning, she and her friends clean up the community together. They also help old people carry their shopping bags. “We are like a big family. Everyone helps each other,” Mrs. Wang says.

Last year, I went to Beijing Qizhi Special Education School for community service. Before we took the bus, my friend asked me a question, “Why are you here?” I did not know how to answer the question.
The school was not far from my school, but it looked like it was in a different world. A group of children were waiting for us. A boy walked toward me. He held my hands and pulled me to the ground. I kissed the earth and tasted nature. I could not understand what he was doing at first, and then I was very angry. Though I was very angry, I controlled my anger.
A teacher stopped this awkward silence when she shouted at the boy. “What are you doing right here, right now?” she said. “You will never see your mom again if you keep doing this. Now, say sorry!” “Sorry,” he cried fearfully and nervously. I said nothing, but I realized something about this child. After lunch I asked the teacher for information about the child’s parents. She said that the child was very different from other students because of an illness. His family could not afford to treat him. He needed the kindness of his family, but they had abandoned him. So he depended on the support from the teachers and community service workers like us. I suddenly realized I could answer the question my friend asked me at the beginning of the day.
Community service workers help others and make everyone feel better. There are so many people in the world that need help. Playing with lonely children may not make a big difference. But it can light a corner in the children’s hearts, making them know they are loved by people.

10. The boy acted differently from others because ________.
A. he was sick B. his parents didn’t like him
C. he was nervous and fearful D. he always lived with teachers
11. From the passage we can learn that the writer ________.
A. helped so many people in the world
B. played with the lonely boy after lunch
C. learned the meaning of community service
D. wasn’t good at answering the questions about community service

The Feynman Technique was developed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. It’s a study method that helps students learn by teaching others.
The Feynman Technique has been one of the most effective study methods for many years. For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just memorizing information. Plus, unlike traditional study methods like re-reading textbooks or reviewing notes, it pushes students to be more actively involved in the learning process. If you want to use the Feynman Technique to study better, follow these steps.
To begin with, choose a topic you want to learn, including subtopics (子主题). If not, you’ll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them. The second step is the heart of the Feynman Technique: Explaining the topic simply enough to be understood by a sixth-grade student. This requires you to help the child understand by using the simplest and clearest language. This step helps divide indigestible topics into their most basic parts. Next, review your explanation and try to find any area where you felt that you couldn’t explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth-grader. The fourth step is to improve your explanation using the information collected from the third step. Finally, repeat the steps. The Feynman Technique works best with repetition, and that is why going through all the prior steps just once is usually not enough to fully understand the topic.
Once you’re confident you’ve learned the topic, it’s time to give yourself a prize. Perhaps, like me, enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
12. Why is the Feynman Technique better than traditional study methods?
A. It saves students’ study time.
B. It allows students to study in groups.
C. It encourages students to do active learning.
D. It helps students memorize more information.
13. According to the third step, who can you get suggestions from?
A. Your parents. B. Your teachers. C. A 12-year-old child. D. An expert in learning.
14. Which of the following is the correct order for the Feynman Technique?
①Pick a topic to learn. ②Improve the weak areas. ③Explain it in the simplest words.
④Repeat the steps until you really learn it. ⑤Find the “imperfect part” of your explanation.
A. ①→③→⑤→②→④ B. ①→⑤→②→③→④
C. ⑤→②→①→③→④ D. ③→⑤→②→④→①
15. In which part of a magazine can we most probably find this passage?
A. Technology. B. Education. C. Culture. D. Life.
【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. B

Wang says.
No matter what your home is like, it’s the people and the love inside that make it “sweet home”.

C
8. How did the writer reach Beijing Qizhi Special Education School?
A. By train. B. By car. C. By bus. D. By taxi.
9. Why did the writer get angry?
A. Because a boy held the writer’s hands.
B. Because the writer did not like to taste nature.
C. Because a boy pushed the writer to the corner.
D. Because a boy was impolite to the writer.
10. The boy acted differently from others because ________.
A. he was sick B. his parents didn’t like him
C. he was nervous and fearful D. he always lived with teachers
11. From the passage we can learn that the writer ________.
A. helped so many people in the world
B. played with the lonely boy after lunch
C. learned the meaning of community service
D. wasn’t good at answering the questions about community service
D
A. Technology. B. Education. C. Culture. D. Life.

Also, as a member of the family, they have the duty to help parents with something like doing the dishes after meals. So it is important for parents to learn how to share.
