A
Li Wei, a 15-year-old junior high school student, spends his free time on small inventions instead of playing online games. With his hands, he creates practical tools to solve small problems, showing a teenager’s sense of responsibility through his love and hard work.
At school, Li Wei does well in all subjects, especially in science and maths. He always listens carefully in class and takes notes patiently. He also likes thinking independently and has creative questions during group discussions. It is understood that his journey of invention started with a science class when he was 12 years old.
At that time, his science teacher played some videos about young student inventors in class. These inventors helped others with their practical, small creations. Their stories deeply touched Li Wei and he made up his mind to try making simple machines which can work by themselves.
Now, Li Wei has successfully made a smart rubbish bin. This rubbish bin can not only open its cover itself when people walk near it, but also separate (分开) dry waste and wet waste into different storage areas, making it very convenient to use. Before he finished the bin, he tried many times and corrected several small mistakes again and again. When talking about the inspiration for the invention, Li Wei said that it came to his mind suddenly one day because his grandma had difficulty moving and reaching the rubbish bin. He hopes this invention can solve the daily problems for the elderly and make their lives easier.
“I feel really happy when my family and neighbors use my invention,” Li Wei said in an interview. For him, inventing things is not just a hobby, but also growth and more practice. “I will keep inventing and try to create more practical, small creations to help more people in need.” He believes every teenager can make a difference as long as they keep learning and never give up.
1. What can we infer about Li Wei from Paragraph 2?

A. It achieved perfect results at his earliest try.
B. It can carry heavy waste for users with weak bodies.
C. It has been widely used in many public communities.
D. Its creation comes from an old person’s real-life problems.
4. What is Li Wei’s attitude towards the invention?
A. It is a good way for him to get lots of praise from others.
B. It helps him grow while offering help to people in need.
C. It should be mostly guided and finished by school teachers.
D. It needs lots of costly objects and special work rooms.
5. What does the story mainly tell us?
A. School science courses decide teenagers’ invention achievements.
B. Teenagers should turn all daily troubles into new inventions.

An article caught my attention this week. It says that few parents these days would ask people living nearby to watch their kids. In fact, the article points out that the common age of babysitters (代人临时照看小孩的人) in the UK has risen from 14 to 34 over the past several decades. Many people feel surprised about this big change.
I worked as a teenage babysitter for years. At that time, I took up those jobs as they could bring me some pocket money, but now I see them as valuable experiences. The article reminded me of just how greatly babysitting shaped my ideas of the world and my way of raising children. It made me think that more teens should take babysitting jobs because it really helps them prepare for life in a way that few other things can. Most school lessons teach us knowledge from books, but part-time jobs teach us real-life skills we can use every day.
Babysitting makes everyone’s life easier. I gained many practical skills when I got on with children. Babysitting lets you see how other families go about their daily life. This is a fascinating, invaluable lesson. I had great conversations with the parents of the children I babysat. Some parents introduced me to their favourite music, described their own jobs and interests, and showed interest in my schoolwork and life goals.
In a society where families are more and more cut off from each other, local neighbours no longer work together to look after kids. If you ask a teenager to babysit for your family, it is an easy way to change this situation. Besides, this job gives the teen a good chance to become more independent. If you’re having a date night with your partner, don’t hesitate (犹豫) to call on that teen down the street and offer him or her a job. It could be the best thing for all of you. It builds trust between neighbours and helps teenagers grow in a simple and natural way.
6. What is the writer’s purpose in writing Paragraph 2?
A. To describe the hard parts of babysitting work.
B. To advise teens to look for more part-time jobs.
C. To share her changed opinions on babysitting.
D. To explain why babysitting is popular among teens.
7. What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?
A. Music helps babysitters keep children quiet and happy.
B. Babysitting offers teenagers more than simple childcare.
C. Good communication with parents is required for babysitters.
D. Babysitters should learn different family living habits.
8. What good can teenagers get from babysitting?
A. They can reduce parents’ heavy housework pressure.
B. They can build close friendship with the little kids.
C. They can know more about different family lifestyles.
D. They can greatly improve their school study results.
9. What is the writer’s opinion on teenage babysitting?
A. It works well when neighbours seldom connect with each other.
B. Every teenager must take babysitting jobs to grow up successfully.
C. It can help teenagers make much money in daily life.
D. It needs special training before teens start the work.
10. What may happen after the end of this text?
A. Teenagers will prefer babysitting to other part-time work.
B. Most neighbours will build closer daily connections.
C. People will set higher standards for babysitting service.
D. More families will use local teen babysitters.

I didn’t mean to look down on business, but it was not for me. At first, I entered the business world to make more money. Money was all I got from it, which enabled me to support my family. Every working day was filled with busy meetings and endless paperwork. I often felt tired inside, even when my work went well. It failed to bring me a sense of happiness and achievement, and it even caused me pain. My dream was to save enough money to leave the job and go to England to follow my love for music.
During this period, I practised the piano early each morning and spent every lunch break writing musical exercises at cheap cafes. Years later, as my family’s situation got much better, I could finally give up my job. It was as if I had been set free, I left for England immediately.
The three-year study in England was beyond amazing. Though I worked harder than I could have ever imagined, every single moment brought me great joy. For the first time, I felt that I was truly living, doing what I loved and was meant to do. Back in my business days, I could only enjoy music in short pieces of free time. Now I could read music books, work with other music-lovers and practise for hours without worrying about my daily work.
It is true that if I had stayed in business, perhaps I would be wealthy today. Still, I do not regret (后悔) my decision. I place far more value on the happiness deep inside my heart. Such special feelings cannot be bought with money, no matter how much one can make in his life. Yet many people, when they can, may try their best only to make money.
Giving up my job went against the advice of all my friends and family. Many people think of money as success in our life. The idea of giving up a highly-paid job for a dream seemed almost crazy. If so, all I can say is “It’s great to be crazy. Money is great, but it’s possible to pay too high a price for it, for some valuable parts of life can never be got back once they are lost.”
11. Which of the following is TRUE about the writer’s life before going to England?
A. His business work brought him great inner satisfaction.
B. He made enough money very soon to give up his job.
C. He made use of little time for music while working.
D. His family supported his dream of studying music from the start.
12. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. He could take long-time holidays whenever he wanted.
B. He no longer needed to make money for his family.
C. He got the chance to make his own choices in life.
D. He could make many new music friends in England.
13. What do we know about the writer’s life in England?
A. He took part in many different music-learning activities.
B. He mixed music learning with plenty of social activities.
C. He hoped to create new kinds of music for local people.
D. He prepared himself for a future business-related job.
14. What was his friends and family’s attitude towards the writer’s decision?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Hopeful. D. Uninterested.
15. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. The Great Value of Money in One’s Life
B. Think Twice Before Following Your Own Dream
C. A Life Choice Between Dream and Practical Needs
D. Money Is Not Everything in Our Whole Life

With all the excitement, surprise, and worries over China’s DeepSeek R1 AI model, I want to make a point: To many young Americans, DeepSeek is cool. They see the Chinese internet as amazing.
How did this happen? First, Chinese products and services win great interest and show new ideas. TikTok is so popular that no US video site can match it since most Americans are active TikTok users. TikTok was shut down earlier in January last year, and the site faced uncertainty. So America’s internet youth turned to a Chinese video site called RedNote, also known as Xiaohongshu. RedNote has more than 300 million users in China, but it got little attention in the US until recently.
And when young Americans visited RedNote, they found something exciting. The opening page is full of what Chinese parents would eat, their words and many pictures that, at least to me, an old American, are hard to understand. Yet Chinese and American youth share ideas with each other here. For example, they tell each other how to cook steamed eggs (蒸蛋) properly.
As for the AI large language models, DeepSeek is really wonderful. Of all these AI tools, I find it the most fun to chat with. Its written answers can show different feelings and are full of fun. DeepSeek once became the top download on Apple’s app store.
Another possible reason why China is widely seen as cool in online culture is that it has few competitors. Not so long ago, many American teenagers loved European culture. They thought Europe was full of knowledge and culture. Today Europe is less attractive to young people. Besides, it is true that young people seldom like what their parents thought was cool when they were young. Now Chinese online culture fills part of this space and brings new interesting choices for those young people.
While the differences between American and Chinese cultures are clear, both Americans and Chinese are friendly, open, forward-looking, and business-friendly. People from the two countries can understand each other well. China has the talent and ability to build online services that Americans will enjoy. China truly has advantages in both technology and colourful online life.
Undoubtedly, China has gained an advantage — not only in technology, but also in liveliness.
16. What pushes many young American internet users to try RedNote?
A. They think TikTok has few interesting video subjects.
B. TikTok may not keep running in their country later on.
C. They believe RedNote works much faster than TikTok.
D. TikTok’s users are getting older day by day.
17. Why can RedNote bring young people from two countries closer?
A. It offers a space for them to share common daily experiences.
B. It provides many free cooking lessons for foreign users.
C. Its homepage is specially designed for foreign teenagers.
D. It translates all the Chinese words into foreign languages.
18. What can we see about DeepSeek from Paragraph 4?
A. It is built mainly for people to talk about cooking skills.
B. It helps users work out many kinds of real-life troubles.
C. It provides lots of short-video materials for young people.
D. It wins users’ love because of its interesting replies.
19. What is one reason for American teens’ changing cultural tastes?
A. European traditional culture has become far less colourful.
B. They seldom follow the cultural choices made by their parents.
C. They hope to spend more time learning foreign language skills.
D. Local culture cannot meet teenagers’ study needs any more.
20. Which of the following opinions would the writer agree with?
A. Foreign teenagers turn to Chinese apps for family-life stories.
B. Chinese online products change teens’ ideas about local culture.
C. Chinese online technology shows its special value to the world.
D. People gain rich cultural knowledge from shopping tools.

It was Tuesday night. On the balcony (阳台) of my tenth-floor apartment, I looked at the sky with eager eyes, hoping to see a shooting star. “Shooting stars are lucky.” Grandma always says.
“Will I see a shooting star tonight, Grandma?”
“There are too many lights tonight, Judy,” Grandma said. “And I hear dreams calling.” She kissed my hair and put me to bed.
When I woke up the next morning, I smelled buttermilk biscuits. My favourite! Although our life was simple and we didn’t have much money, Grandma always tried her best to bring me happiness. “Our shooting stars came for breakfast!” Grandma smiled. In her hands was a plate of star-shaped biscuits, each with a lovely little tail. My eyes went wide, and then they filled with something shining.
Then it was time for school. Before reaching the third floor, the elevator (电梯) stopped with a loud noise and went dark. My heart pounded so hard that I felt the beating in my ears. Grandma rang the bell for help. Then, in the darkness, she found my cold hand. She began to hum (哼曲子), and soon, my shaky voice joined hers. Grandma’s song seemed to have magic power.
When I got home from school, Grandma was cooking in the kitchen. I told her about our adventure.
“Sarah found a four-leaf clover (四叶草). Ben got the last cookie from the cafeteria. Will I see a shooting star tonight?”
“The night isn’t over yet. Go to the balcony and wait,” Grandma smiled.
After dinner, I couldn’t find Grandma anywhere. I went to the balcony alone, still hoping to see a shooting star.
Suddenly, the dark sky was lit up. I nearly shouted out, “A shooting star?” But then—boom!—a shower of bright golden light burst out right above me, dancing and falling slowly. Fireworks! Before I could catch my breath, another followed, a shining blue, then a red, painting the quiet night with bright colours.
My heart jumped with joy and wonder. When I turned around, I saw Grandma standing in the doorway, with an empty firework box in her left hand. “Do you like my shooting stars tonight?” She smiled. “Yes!” I ran to my grandma quickly. ③________________________________________.

B. He no longer needed to make money for his family.
C. He got the chance to make his own choices in life.

13. What do we know about the writer’s life in England?

五、阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
阅读材料,根据题目要求完成各小题。
At that very moment, I realized: I may not be “lucky” in a traditional way, but I know I am truly lucky.
46. Why did Judy look at the sky with eager eyes on Tuesday night?

【解析】
【导语】本文讲述朱迪盼着看见流星,奶奶用星形饼干、烟花,在平凡生活里为她制造专属 “流星”,让朱迪读懂藏在日常里的爱与幸运。
【46题详解】
第一段提到周二晚上朱迪满怀期待地望着天空的原因是“…hoping to see a shooting star. ‘Shooting stars are lucky.’”。答案是对原文信息的整合。
【47题详解】
第五段提到“Then it was time for school. Before reaching the third floor, the elevator (电梯) stopped with a loud noise and went dark. ”。
划线句子“I may not be “lucky” in a traditional way, but I know I am truly lucky.”
