Samuel: I think I’ll have a hamburger, some chocolate cake and a large cola. The cake here is delicious! Would
you like to try the cake?
Doris: No, thank you! The cake may be too sweet for me. I’ll have a chicken sandwich, a small tofu salad and a
glass of green tea. I’ve decided to stay away from fried food and soft drinks.
远离
Samuel: Why? I remember you used to love that stuff.
Doris: I’m a bit overweight, so my mum took me to see a
doctor. The doctor said that I needed to lose a bit
of weight by avoiding foods high in fat, oil and
sugar. He also stated that it’s necessary for me to
have a more balanced diet to keep healthy.
Samuel: What’s a balanced diet?

均衡的饮食
Doris: A balanced diet means having different kinds of
healthy food every day. Research shows that each
day you should have plenty of fruit, vegetables
and grain products such as rice, noodles and
bread. And, in general, you should include a
certain amount of meat and dairy products in
your daily food.

Samuel: But I believe I have a balanced diet.
Doris: Really? Do you remember what you had today?
Samuel: Oh, the usual things. For breakfast, I had fried eggs
and a large cup of milk tea. This helps me start the day.
Then I treated myself to some ice cream.
Doris: And for lunch?
Samuel: For lunch, I had six fried chicken wings and a cola.
Doris: I don’t understand how that is a balanced diet!
Samuel: Well, I have many different kinds of food every day. It gives me enough energy to get through the day.

Doris: But you’ve had too much fried food and too many
sugary drinks. You haven’t had any fresh fruit or
vegetables. If you continue like this, you will have a
lot of health problems when you get older. Fortunately,
many of those problems are avoidable. If you have a
more balanced diet, you can stay healthy.
Samuel: OK, you’re right. I’ll change my diet ... tomorrow.
Here comes my hamburger, cola and chocolate cake!
