In December 2025, Saihanba Forest Farm successfully passed a Forest Management Certification (森林经营认证). It acts as a “green pass”, helping Saihanba’s forest products enter global markets.
Located in Hebei Province, Saihanba has experienced an amazing change. By the late 1950s, centuries of overgrazing (过度放牧) and logging (伐木) had made it into a desert. With sandstorms threatening the capital and other northern cities, China decided to bring it back to life. Today, it is the world’s largest man‑made forest.
This success comes from the hard work of three generations (代) of foresters. In 1962, the first group of 369 foresters arrived there to plant trees, most of whom were in their 20s. “Working in the forest, you have to work hard no matter what the conditions are,” a worker said. Today, a new generation is taking on new challenges. They are using scientific methods to improve the forest. For example, they are planting mixed tree species to make the forest stronger against fire, pests (害虫) and climate change.
Over the years, these foresters have turned the desert into a green sea. The forest coverage (覆盖率) has increased from 11 percent to 82 percent. They also take pride in the “Saihanba Spirit”, which means remembering why they started, working hard and trying new things, and developing in a green way. In 2017, Saihanba won the UN’s highest environmental honour. Saihanba proves that strong will and science can turn poor land into green places. It sets a powerful example for green development, offering hope to China and other countries around the world.
5. What does the “green pass” help Saihanba’s forest products do?
A. Grow more green plants. B. Reach global markets.
C. Improve scientific methods. D. Avoid the threat of sandstorms.
6. Why did China decide to bring Saihanba back to life?
A. Because many tourists wanted to visit it.
B. Because the forest coverage had dropped to 11%.
C. Because it was the world’s largest man‑made forest.
D. Because sandstorms threatened the capital and other cities.
7. Why are foresters planting mixed tree species?
A. To attract more tourists. B. To make the forest stronger.
C. To reduce the cost of planting. D. To increase the production of trees.
8. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The meaning of the Saihanba Spirit. B. The ways to plant and protect a forest.
C. The successful change and example of Saihanba. D. The process of getting an international forest certification.
【答案】5. B 6. D 7. B 8. C

①People always say the music from their younger years is the best, compared with the music from any other time in their lives. This may be because of something that can be called the “memory bump (隆起)”.
②According to the BBC, the memory bump means that our memories from ages 10 to 30 are very strong. This period heavily shapes our interests, such as our favourite books, films, sports stars, and especially music. The reason is that there is a “safe” place in our brain to store the musical memories. The place is well protected from aging problems. As a result, the music we listen to during these years usually has a long-lasting influence. We usually remember the music in our early years more deeply than music from other times in our lives.
③“Music is episodic (片段式的),” Professor Robert Cutietta at USC told CNN. “If you look at an artwork or something else, you can look at it and then walk away. Music is over time.”
④Music is mixed. It can mix happy and sad feelings when we listen to it. When the songs are about your past experiences, memories of those moments will flood back as you listen to the songs again.
⑤Music is magic. Sometimes, with a change in your experience, the sadness you felt before when listening to a song can later turn into joy. This can explain why listening to music from a difficult time in your younger life can bring a sense of comfort and relief (宽慰) now.
13. What is the “memory bump”?
A. An interest in books and films. B. A type of music from the 1910s.
C. The happiest memories in the brain. D. The strong memories from our early years.
14. Why do we remember the music from our younger years better?
A. We listen to the music more often. B. Young people have better memories.
C. A well protected area in the brain stores it. D. The music is easier to understand and remember.
15. What is the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
16. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Most people have special musical memories. B. Our music memories have a lasting influence.
C. Getting older changes how we remember music. D. We can remember music better than other things.

I live in the city and I often walk home instead of taking the subway. There’s a shorter path (小路) nearby, but I always choose the longer one for the beautiful scenery along the way. Though I feel a little bit tired and people don’t understand me, I have to say that I feel my mind clearer after walking, especially when I’m busy with work.
—Declan Smith (26 years old)
London is a great place to walk. I usually walk from my home to where I work right through Regent’s Park, with its tall and wonderful trees. Along the way, I really enjoy sharing my daily happiness and troubles with some of my friends while walking together.
