People first choose the colours they want to use, drop the coloured lacquer into the water, stir (搅拌) it, put the fans in the water for a while, and then take them out. And that’s it.

Under the hot sun, a young girl jumped onto a tractor and started it. As it moved across the farmland, the dry ground was turned soft and ready for planting. She is Shen Yanfen, a post-90s new farmer.
Born in Guangzhou, Shen studied modern business management at university and once worked in Shenzhen. In 2020, she returned to her hometown because of her father. “My father was getting older. He hoped I could make his cooperative (合作社) stronger to help with farming,” she said.

For student Chen Honghan, the journey to school has changed from a treacherous 3-hour walk to a safe thirty-minute trip, thanks to the “cloud school bus”.
Chen comes from Nizhuhe Village between Yunnan and Guizhou. For years, Chen and her classmates walked on muddy roads to reach their school high on the top of the cliffs.
However, this challenging journey has now changed into a wonderful tour. They first ride a 6-minute scenic bus and then take a lift to climb 268 metres. Next, they take a cable car (缆车) ride. After a 1kilometre walk, they arrive at the school in just 30 minutes.
The change began with the introduction of the eco-cultural tourism (旅游业) in 2017. The project helped build a cliffside (悬崖边) lift in 2018 and a cable car in 2022. They were free for the villagers.
The “cloud school bus” not only safely sends the village children to school but has also attracted many tourists to the area. This also has improved villagers’ lives, with many starting businesses like coffee shops and guest houses. What’s more, some villagers have returned to their hometowns to help with the local development.
Cai Xiong once worked on the amazing project.“This tourism project is not only meant to help the villagers succeed, but also to serve as a ‘ladder to the clouds’ for the children. I hope they will climb this ladder, get experience and grow, and finally return with the skills to make their hometown even better,” he said.
8. What does the underlined word “treacherous” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Busy. B. Dangerous.
C. Boring. D. Long.
9. What is the correct order of the students’ journey to school at present?
A.
B.
C.
D.
10. Which is NOT an advantage of the “cloud school bus”?
A. It improves students’ safety during their school journey.
B. It attracts a great number of tourists to visit Nizhuhe Village.
C. It provides villagers with better lives and a bright future.
D. It encourages villagers to leave their village for better jobs.
11. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To describe the dangers of walking to school in mountainous areas.
B. To explain how education has improved in Yunnan and Guizhou.
C. To show how a tourism project changed villagers’ lives and education.
D. To introduce Cai Xiong’s contributions (贡献) to building lifts and cable cars.

The Resolute Scientist: Wu Jianxiong
Wu Jianxiong was one of the most brilliant physicists of the 20th century. Born in 1912 in Jiangsu Province, she defied traditional expectations and pursued a career in science. She studied at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her doctorate in nuclear physics.
Wu’s research focused on beta decay and the weak interaction. Her work was essential to the development of the standard model of particle physics. She was known for her meticulous experiments—colleagues often said that “if it was done by Wu, it was done right.”
In 1956, two physicists, Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen-Ning Yang, proposed a theory that challenged the law of parity conservation. They needed experimental proof, and they turned to Wu. She designed and conducted the experiment, which demonstrated that parity was not conserved in weak interactions. This groundbreaking discovery changed the course of modern physics.
Despite her contributions, Wu was not awarded the Nobel Prize—her male colleagues were. When asked about this, she said, “I did it for science, not for awards.” She remained humble and continued her research until her passing in 1997. Today, she is remembered as one of the greatest physicists of all time.
12. What field did Wu Jianxiong work in?
A. Biology. B. Nuclear physics. C. Chemistry. D. Mathematics.
13. Why was Wu Jianxiong known for her experiments?
A. They were fast and simple. B. They were extremely accurate.
C. They were expensive. D. They were controversial.
14. What did Wu’s experiment prove?
A. Parity is always conserved. B. Parity is not conserved in weak interactions.
C. Beta decay is impossible. D. The standard model is wrong.
15. What can be inferred about Wu Jianxiong from the passage?
A. She was angry about not receiving the Nobel Prize. B. She valued scientific truth over personal recognition.
C. She stopped working after her discovery. D. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize.

The focus at the 2026 Spring Festival Gala wasn’t only put on performers and stars. A group of cutting-edge humanoid robots (尖端的人形机器人) appeared on stage. That caused a heated discussion on social media at home and abroad. These high-tech robots, from different tech companies, showed their great skills and mixed traditional culture with modern technology perfectly.
The most popular performance was Wu BOTI, a martial arts show performed by robots and young kung fu students. The robots did difficult moves like backflips (后空翻), 360-degree jumps and drunken fist (醉拳) neatly. Some 1.8-metre-tall robots even wore red clothes and performed sword plays beautifully, looking just like real martial arts masters.
Besides martial arts, robots also joined in other shows. In a funny short play, some small robots told jokes, did flips and even talked with actors naturally with the help of AI technology.
These robots not only showed China’s fast development of science and technology but also helped spread traditional Chinese culture. For many students, this special performance let them see the progress of technology and feel the joy of the Spring Festival deeply.
At the same time, people’s interest in domestic robots was lifted to an all-time high. The influence on the robotics market was very quick. Robot orders from over 100 cities nationwide got more and more. It’s believed that robots serving us at home will appear soon.
