B
Last month, I completed my Level 2 Chinese lessons. As the class wound up and we bid farewells to our teacher, there was little confusion in my mind on what to do next: to visit a sacred spot dedicated to a man who laid the groundwork for China’s modern educational system millennia ago.
On a bright Sunday afternoon, I visited the Confucius Temple. Once inside, I quickly realized that this was actually my second visit. The first in late 2009 had been a rushed affair as I had unfortunately included it in a trip to the Yonghegong Lama Temple, which took much longer to explore. Since I did not remember much in the way of details from back then, this second visit, thankfully, felt as good as new.
What stood out vividly as soon as I entered the courtyard was a statue of the great man right before the doors. Visitors were busy taking photographs and a middle-aged man was urging a young boy, possibly his grandson, to pose and pray. It must seem awe-inspiring for the little one. As he grows up, the schoolboy will no doubt come to appreciate what a groundbreaking change this man brought on basic literacy by giving everyone an equal opportunity to attend school, an unheard-of thing in those days.
There is much to thank Confucius for: his remarkable contribution to the country’s moral compass, his near-single-handed effort to teach future generations the value of honesty, hard work, and respect for fellow beings — in short, the Confucian ethos (道德观) — that are in essence what we find in abundance in Chinese society, even today.
As I explored every corner of the temple with crowds of well-behaved citizens, the fruits of a seed sown long ago became quite apparent to me. This visit to the Confucius Temple was not merely a tour; it was a pilgrimage (朝圣), allowing me to pay respect to the profound wisdom that has continued to shape Chinese society for thousands of years.
4. Why did the author find the second visit as good as new?
A. He was quite familiar with it. B. His memories of the first visit faded.
C. He spent more time in exploring it. D. The temple had changed quite a lot.
5. What contribution did Confucius make to the Chinese educational system?
A. He built the Confucius Temple. B. He invented a new method of teaching.
C. He established the first university in China. D. He made education accessible to all people.
6. What can be learnt about Confucianism in contemporary China?
A. Its values are still widely practiced. B. It is far more influential than before.
C. It has lost its relevance in today’s society. D. It is followed and practiced by few scholars.
7. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Confucius’ Enduring Influence: A Modern Pilgrimage
B. Confucius and Education: Revisiting a Timeless Legacy
C. Language Lessons and Cultural Heritage: A Confucian Journey
D. My Second Visit to the Temple: Memories of Confucius
B 5. D 6. A 7. A
根据第二段“The first in late 2009 had been a rushed affair as I had unfortunately included it in a trip to the Yonghegong Lama Temple, which took much longer to explore. Since I did not remember much in the way of details from back then, this second visit, thankfully, felt as good as new. (2009年末的首次参观颇为匆忙,当时我不慎将孔庙和雍和宫的行程安排在了一起——后者需要花费更长时间游览。由于对那时的诸多细节已然模糊,这次重访反倒给了我焕然一新的体验)”可知,作者第一次参观匆忙且记忆模糊,因此第二次参观感觉像全新体验。故选B。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“As he grows up, the schoolboy will no doubt come to appreciate what a groundbreaking change this man brought on basic literacy by giving everyone an equal opportunity to attend school, an unheard-of thing in those days. (随着这个学童渐渐长大,他终将明白这位先贤通过“有教无类”带来的变革是多么开天辟地——在当时的年代,让每个人都享有平等的入学机会,这简直是闻所未闻的创举)”可知,孔子提倡让每个人都享有平等的入学机会,使教育普及化,这在当时是革命性的贡献。故选D。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“There is much to thank Confucius for: his remarkable contribution to the country’s moral compass, his near-single-handed effort to teach future generations the value of honesty, hard work, and respect for fellow beings — in short, the Confucian ethos (道德观) — that are in essence what we find in abundance in Chinese society, even today. (我们实在应当感念孔子的诸多贡献:他奠定了这个国家的道德基石,几乎以一己之力向后世传授诚信、勤勉、仁爱等价值观念——简言之,正是儒家道德观的精髓,至今仍在中国社会生生不息)”可知,儒家道德观至今仍在中国社会广泛存在。故选A。
通读全文,并根据最后一段“This visit to the Confucius Temple was not merely a tour; it was a pilgrimage (朝圣) , allowing me to pay respect to the profound wisdom that has continued to shape Chinese society for thousands of years. (此番孔庙之行绝非寻常游览,而是一场精神朝圣,让我得以向那延续千年、至今仍在塑造中国社会的深邃智慧致以崇高敬意)”可知,本文讲述作者重访孔庙,感悟孔子思想对中国社会持久而深远的影响。所以文章核心是“孔子对现代中国的影响”。选项A“Confucius’ Enduring Influence: A Modern Pilgrimage (孔子不朽的影响:一次当代朝圣之旅)”适合作标题。故选A。
C
If you’re digitally skilled, it has likely been a while since you spent much time writing by hand. The laborious process of tracing out our thoughts, letter by letter, on the page is becoming a thing of the past in our screen-dominated world, where text messages and thumb-typed grocery lists have replaced handwritten letters and sticky notes. To keep up, many schools are introducing computers as early as preschool, meaning some kids may learn the basics of typing before writing by hand. Although electronic keyboards offer obvious efficiency benefits, giving up handwriting may come at a significant cost.
Typing pays no attention to the form of the letters — only involving relatively simple and uniform movements. By contrast, handwriting is a complex task. Motor system has to delicately adjust the pressure that each finger applies on the pen to recreate each letter. Adding to the complexity, your visual system must continuously process that letter as it’s formed, with your brain making adjustments to fingers in real time to create the letters’ shapes. “This process lets you make your body and what you are seeing mesh.” says Robert Wiley, a cognitive psychologist at the University of North Carolina, adding “such complexity is crucial to mental development.”
Screens and keyboards replacing pen and paper might affect kids’ ability to learn letters, which is actually an important predictor of later reading and math attainment. If young children are not receiving any handwriting training, their brains simply won’t reach their full potential. For adults, typing often results in failing to actually process information. During a lecture, it’s possible to type what they’re hearing word for word. But often, they’re just typing blindly, failing to make information their own. On the other hand, taking notes by hand forces them to write only key words and use drawings or arrows to work through ideas.
Actually, we don’t have to drop digital tools, like graphics tablets and smart pens, to capitalize on the power of handwriting. Recent research suggests that writing on a screen activates the same brain pathways as writing on paper. It’s the movement that counts, not its final form.
8. What does the author intend to convey in paragraph 1?
A. Abandoning handwriting is unwise. B. Digital literacy is essential nowadays.
C. Handwritten communication is out of date. D. Computer courses are urgently needed in preschools.
9. What does the underlined word “mesh” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Set up. B. Run fast. C. Mess up. D. Work together.
10. What can be inferred from paragraph 3?
A. Blind typing contributes to brain development.
B. Kids have a preference for screens and keyboards.
C. Handwritten markers are good for getting ideas linked.
D. Adults have the ability to memorize complex information.
11. What is the author’s attitude towards using digital pens?
A. Doubtful. B. Critical. C. Favorable. D. Unclear.
A 9. D 10. C 11. C
根据第一段“If you’re digitally skilled, it has likely been a while since you spent much time writing by hand. Although electronic keyboards offer obvious efficiency benefits, giving up handwriting may come at a significant cost.(如果你精通数字技术,你可能已经有一段时间没有花太多时间手写了。在我们这个以屏幕为主导的世界里,把我们的想法一个字母一个字母地写在纸上的费力过程正在成为过去,短信和拇指输入的购物清单已经取代了手写信件和便利贴。为了跟上潮流,许多学校早在学龄前就开始引进电脑,这意味着一些孩子可能会在手写之前学习打字的基础知识。虽然电子键盘提供了明显的效率优势,但放弃手写可能要付出巨大的代价)”可知,作者在第1段想表达放弃手写是不明智的。故选A。
根据划线词上文“Typing pays no attention to the form of the letters — only involving relatively simple and uniform movements. By contrast, handwriting is a complex task. Motor system has to delicately adjust the pressure that each finger applies on the pen to recreate each letter. Adding to the complexity, your visual system must continuously process that letter as it’s formed, with your brain making adjustments to fingers in real time to create the letters` shapes.(打字不注意字母的形式,只涉及相对简单和统一的动作。相比之下,书写是一项复杂的任务。运动系统必须精确地调整每个手指施加在笔上的压力,以重现每个字母。更复杂的是,当字母形成时,你的视觉系统必须不断地处理它,你的大脑实时调整手指来创造字母的形状)”可知,上文解释了书写的过程需要大脑调整手指进行,说明大脑和手是一起工作的。故划线词意思是“一起工作”。故选D。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“For adults, typing often results in failing to actually process information. During a lecture, it’s possible to type what they’ re hearing word for word. But often, they’re just typing blindly, failing to make information their own.On the other hand, taking notes by hand forces them to write only key words and use drawings or arrows to work through ideas.(对于成年人来说,打字往往导致他们无法真正处理信息。在课堂上,他们可以一字不差地把听到的内容打出来。但通常,他们只是盲目地打字,没有把信息变成自己的。另一方面,手写笔记迫使他们只写关键词,并使用图画或箭头来表达想法)”可知,手写笔记有助于把想法联系起来。故选C。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Actually, we don’t have to drop digital tools, like graphics tablets and smart pens, to capitalize on the power of handwriting. Recent research suggests that writing on a screen activates the same brain pathways as writing on paper. It’s the movement that counts, not its final form.(实际上,我们不必放弃数字工具,比如图形平板电脑和智能笔,来利用手写的力量。最近的研究表明,在屏幕上写字和在纸上写字激活的大脑通路是一样的。重要的是运动本身,而不是最终形式)”可知,作者对使用数字笔的态度是支持。故选C。
D
Almost one in five adults in the US lives with a mental illness. A number of scientific studies have shown that nature experiences may benefit people’s psychological well-being and cognitive (认知的) function. Experts are starting to recognize interacting with nature as one way to improve mental health. But it has been difficult to find ways to quantify these benefits in a useful manner for cities or organizations that want to integrate nature to improve mental health.
“Thinking about the direct mental health benefits that nature contact provides is important to take into account when planning how to conserve nature and integrate it into our cities,” says Greg Bratman, an assistant professor at the University of Washington, offers a conceptual model for this in his study.
The study outlines how city planners, landscape architects, developers, and others could eventually anticipate the mental health impacts of decisions related to the environment. Many governments already consider this with regard to other aspects of human health. For example, trees planted in cities improve air quality or reduce urban heat island effects, and parks built in specific neighborhoods encourage physical activity. But these actions don’t usually directly factor in the mental health benefits that trees or a restored park might provide.
Then researchers built a model to help make meaningful, informed decisions about environmental projects and how they may impact mental' health. It includes four steps for planners to consider: elements of nature included in a project, say at a school or across the whole city; amount of contact people will have with nature; how people interact with nature; and how people may benefit from those interactions, based on the latest scientific evidence.
“If the evidence shows that nature contact helps to buffer (缓冲) against negative impacts from other environmental predictors of health, then access to these landscapes can be considered a matter of environmental justice. We hope this framework will contribute to this discussion,” Bratman says. “Eventually, it could be developed and potentially used to help address health inequalities in underserved communities.”
12. What challenges planners in using nature to improve mental health?
A. The high cost of green space projects. B. The difficulty in measuring the benefits.
C. The lack of scientific studies on nature. D. The low awareness of mental illnesses.
13. What is the purpose of Bratman’s conceptual model?
A. To help decide on environmental issues. B. To show benefits of nature for mental health.
C. To seek medical treatment for mental illnesses. D. To replace traditional urban planning methods.
14. What should be considered in environmental projects according to the model?
A. Increasing the number of urban communities. B. Simplifying natural elements in the community.
C. Calculating the frequency of people’s nature contact. D. Giving people advice on how to interact with nature.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Mental Health Crisis: More Green Spaces Needed
B. Mental Illness Treatment: A Global Challenge
C. Happiness Measurement: Studies in Urban Parks
D. Nature and Well-being: A New Tool for City Planners
B 13. B 14. C 15. D

Stress is big, visible, and obvious. Virtually everyone can recognize, and have sympathy for, normal stress - it comes from universally recognized challenges or setbacks, and often there’s a “bad guy” who is the source of it. Maybe it is continually being called on to help needy friends. ____16____
____17____ It’s caused by difficult moments that we register as just another bump in the road - if we register them at all. Microstresses come at us so quickly, and we’re so conditioned to just working through them. ____18____ And even when we do register microstress, we don’t necessarily think about its impact on our lives. For example, a minor disagreement with a friend or classmate over something trivial, like lunch plans or group work.
Microstresses, as their name implies, are small - may be invisible to spot individually. ____19____ That’s because the source of microstress is seldom a classic antagonist, such as a spectacularly demanding client or a jerk boss. Rather, it comes from the people with whom we are closest: our friends, family members, and colleagues. For example, we may harbor feelings of guilt or failure that we’ve let down someone we care about. The emotion in the relationship - positive or negative - magnifies the impact of the stressor.
Of course, you’re never coping with just one or two microstresses. You’re likely facing dozens a day - and you’ve probably come to accept that this way of living is nothing special. “Just let me survive this one week,” you promise yourself, “then I’ll be OK.” Unfortunately, except every week becomes yet another week you just have to survive. ____20____
A. By contrast, microstress is far less obvious.
B. And the cycle continues for months on end.
C. They tend to seem fleeting, or too minor to hurt us.
D. Or it is preparing for an important yet difficult examination.
E. Or your phone is dying while out with no charger available.
F. However, they involve an emotional baggage that’s not easy to unpack.
G. Individual stressors seem management, but they accumulate.

前文“Maybe it is continually being called on to help needy friends. (也许它是一直被要求帮助有需要的朋友。)”讲述了导致压力的一种情况,空处应讲述另一种产生压力的情况,结合前文“it is...”形式可知,D项“Or it is preparing for an important yet difficult examination. (或者,它是为一场重要但困难的考试做准备。)”符合题意。故选D。
【17题详解】
根据空后的“It’s caused by difficult moments that we register as just another bump in the road - if we register them at all. Microstresses come at us so quickly, and we’re so conditioned to just working through them. (这是由困难时刻造成的,我们把它们登记为只是路上的又一个颠簸——如果我们真的把它们记下来的话。微压力来得如此之快,我们已经习惯了仅仅克服它们。)”可知,后文讲述了微压力,再结合第一段内容可知,空处应与上文形成转折,引出微压力,A项“相比之下,微应力则不那么明显。”符合题意,与第一段第一句“Stress is big, visible, and obvious. (压力是巨大的、可见的、显而易见的。)”对照。故选A。
根据空前的“Microstresses come at us so quickly, and we’re so conditioned to just working through them. (微压力来得如此之快,我们已经习惯了仅仅克服它们。)”和空后的“And even when we do register microstress, we don’t necessarily think about its impact on our lives. (即使我们确实感受到了微压力,我们也不一定会考虑它对我们生活的影响。)”可知,空处应承上启下,讲述微压力转瞬即逝,影响很小,C项“它们往往看起来转瞬即逝,或者太小而不会伤害我们。”符合题意。故选C。
【19题详解】
根据空前的“Microstresses, as their name implies, are small - may be invisible to spot individually. (顾名思义,微压力很小,可能无法单独发现。)”和空后的“That’s because the source of microstress is seldom a classic antagonist, such as a spectacularly demanding client or a jerk boss. 【导语】主要讲述了生活在浙江杭州的Mei,从高中时开始接触钩编,将其从爱好发展为全职事业的故事,同时还展现了当下中国年轻人通过拥抱 “老派生活” 来平衡现代快节奏生活的趋势。
【36题详解】
考查非谓语动词。句意:Mei 住在浙江省杭州市,她仍然珍视自己的第一件钩编作品:一个蓝色的杯垫,是她在高中时,在一位年长朋友的指导下制作的。be based in为固定短语,意为“以……为基地,住在”,此处用过去分词based作后置定语,修饰Mei。
【37题详解】
考查名词。句意:Mei 住在浙江省杭州市,她仍然珍视自己的第一件钩编作品:一个蓝色的杯垫,是她在高中时,在一位年长朋友的指导下制作的。空前有介词with,此处应用名词guidance,with guidance from...

lead to sb. doing sth.

1.写作词数应为80个左右;
Dear Mark,
Thanks for sharing the disqualified photo case with me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Best wishes,
Li Hua
Dear Mark,
Thanks for sharing the disqualified photo case with me. In my view, disqualifying the AI-generated photo is both reasonable and necessary.
Photography, as an art form, embodies the photographer’s painstaking efforts in composition, lighting adjustment, and on-site shooting, capturing the essence of a real-world moment. AI-generated images, despite their visual appeal, lack the human touch, the emotional resonance, and the genuine creative process that traditional photography offers.
Allowing such works in a competition would undermine the hard work of sincere participants and distort the very nature of the contest. Thus, this decision upholds the fairness and integrity of the photography competition.
Best wishes,
Li Hua

When we are little kids, birthday parties are momentous occasions. They are our time to shine, and we love everything about them: the balloons, the games, the cake, the gifts, and so on.
After reading cool stories about police officers solving mysteries, Allen Miller thought the police were awesome, hoping to become one of them! So, when he had to choose a theme for his seventh birthday party—he went with his favorite: the police! And all he wanted for his birthday party was a model police car. He excitedly invited some of his friends and anxiously awaited the day. Unfortunately, none of them could make it to the party due to various reasons,
Allen’s mom Rachel wrestled with the challenging decision: should she cancel the party and save Allen the embarrassment of an empty party room? He had been looking forward to the party and talking about it daily, so it would break his heart to cancel it.
Officer Frank Smith, who had already planned with Rachel and agreed to show up at the party, heard from Rachel that it might be canceled due to low attendance. That’s when he decided to save the day—he is a police officer after all! His duty is to serve and protect, and he decided to protect Allen from having a bad day, and serve him the most amazing seventh birthday party! Officer Smith got the whole local police to join in. “We like to be involved in our community. It’s not just about enforcing (执行) the law. We like to be there in the good times as well,” he explained to Rachel.
On the day of Allen’s party, Officer Smith picked up Rachel and Allen in his police car. The boy didn’t know where they were going, but was excited. They stopped at Town Hall, and officer Smith led them into the meeting room where a group of policemen were waiting to wish Allen a happy birthday.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
There, a party was waiting for him. The moment Allen stepped inside, a chorus of “Happy Birthday” filled the meeting room, and he found himself surrounded by lots of police officers holding balloons. Officer Smith introduced him to all the officers, who gave him high fives. Allen was thrilled, and his eyes sparkled with excitement as he looked at the grand police-themed cake. As Allen cut into the cake with the help of his mom, the room erupted into cheers and laughter, adding to the joyful atmosphere.
After they enjoyed the cake, officer Smith took out a gift bag. “It’s for you.” He presented the delicately wrapped parcel to Allen, who was stunned by the surprise. “Wow, a model police car! It looks exactly like the one we came here in! Thank you!” Officer Smith smiled, “Anytime, Allen.” Allen hugged Officer Smith and thanked him again for making the otherwise crushing disappointment his time to shine. It was the local heroes who helped by being part of the community and inspiring the young soul in small but effective ways.
