W: That's right. My cousin is crazy about space. She hopes to become an astronaut one day.
M: Does she want to perform a spacewalk?
W: Yes, and she wants to do experiments in space, too.

Text 7 Hello, everyone! Welcome to our science club. Today I'd like to tell you what life is like in space. First, astronauts exercise for about two hours every day. Without exercise, their muscles will become weak. Second, the astronauts' food is prepared on Earth and kept in bags, so it won't float around. They can choose from over one hundred dishes, but salt and pepper are in liquid form, because small pieces may fly into their eyes or noses. Third, sleeping in space is different. Astronauts sleep in sleeping bags tied to the wall, or they will float around in the room. Life in space is not easy, but it is an amazing experience. More astronauts will be sent there in the future, and maybe one day you will be one of them.
Question 11: What is the speaker mainly talking about?
Question 12: Why do astronauts exercise every day?
Question 13: Where is the astronauts' food prepared?
Question 14: Why are salt and pepper in liquid form?

Dear Chris, thanks for your email. Wang Yaping is also my hero. As China's first woman astronaut to walk in space, she has done many science experiments in the space station. She is also our favourite "space teacher", because her space classes make us feel closer to the stars. My space dream is to travel to the moon one day and do research there. To make my dream come true, I will study hard, especially science and English. I will also exercise every day to keep fit, because astronauts must be strong both in mind and body. Besides, I will learn more about China's space programme. I'm proud of our country's achievements in space exploration, and I believe that if we keep dreaming and working hard, our dreams will come true.

Whenever we look up at the night sky together, my grandpa tells me the same story. On a summer evening in 1969, the whole village crowded around the only TV set to watch the first moon landing. "When the astronauts set foot on the moon, we couldn't believe our eyes," Grandpa says. "At that time, most families didn't even have a telephone. Nobody imagined that humans could travel that far."
Grandpa's dream didn't come true — he wanted to be a pilot, but he became a village teacher instead. Still, he never stopped looking up at the stars. He bought me my first telescope and taught me to find the moon, Mars and other planets.
Last year, we watched the live video of China's space station being completed. "In our dreams, we flew to the stars," Grandpa said with wet eyes. "Now our country is really doing it." That night, I made a wish: one day, I will tell Grandpa's story on the moon. I believe that if we keep dreaming and working hard, no star is too far away.
54. What did the villagers do in the summer of 1969? ( )
A. They watched the first moon landing on TV.
B. They welcomed the astronauts home.
C. They built a new school.
D. They bought telescopes.
55. What was Grandpa's dream? ( )
A. To be a village teacher. B. To be a pilot.
C. To be an astronaut. D. To buy a TV set.
56. What does the writer want to tell us? ( )
A. Old people often tell the same stories.
B. Life in the past was hard.
C. Watching TV is a good way to learn.
D. Keep dreaming and no star is too far away.

Why do humans keep exploring space? Scientists give us three good reasons.
First, the study of other planets helps us better understand Earth's geology, history, and its relationship with other planets. For example, by comparing Mars with Earth, scientists can learn how climate changes over time, which may help us deal with climate problems here.
Second, technology developed for space can benefit us on Earth. Some satellites, for example, help us deal with problems caused by climate change. Many things we use every day, like weather apps and GPS, also come from space technology.
Third, at some point in the far future, we may find new resources in outer space. It might sound crazy, but our Earth may run out of resources. In that case, a new home for us human beings will be needed.
Of course, space exploration costs a lot of money and it is sometimes dangerous. But as one scientist says, "Space is full of mysteries, and we always want to know more."
57. How many reasons for space exploration are mentioned? ( )
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
58. What helps us deal with problems caused by climate change? ( )
A. Weather apps. B. GPS. C. Some satellites. D. Moon soil.
59. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? ( )
A. Studying other planets helps us understand Earth better.
B. Space technology is only useful for astronauts.
C. Humans may find new resources in outer space.
D. Space exploration sometimes costs a lot and is dangerous.

China is working on a big plan to build the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) on the moon. After finishing its missions with Chang'e-6, China will send more spacecraft to get ready for the ILRS.
The ILRS will be built in two steps. First, a simple model will be made at the moon's South Pole. It will be able to do science work in an area within 100 kilometres. A network that connects Earth and the moon will be used for different missions, like sending robots to explore the moon and astronauts landing on the moon. The second step is to make the station better by 2050. A network of lunar stations will be built, with a main station at the South Pole and other stations at the equator and on the far side of the moon.
So why the moon's South Pole? Scientists say there may be water there, and some areas get sunlight almost all the time, which is good for getting solar power. It is hoped that moon bases will be built in the near future so that scientists can cooperate and do more research there. Since 2017, many countries and international organizations have agreed to work with China on this project. It seems likely that one day, humans will set foot on the moon again — this time, to stay.
60. What will be done first in building the ILRS? ( )
A. A simple model will be made at the moon's South Pole.
B. Stations will be built at the equator.
C. Astronauts will live on the moon.
D. The far side of the moon will be explored.
61. Why is the moon's South Pole a good place for the station? ( )
A. Because it is close to Earth.
B. Because there may be water and sunlight there.
C. Because it is warm in winter.
D. Because robots can be made there.
62. The underlined phrase "set foot on" in the last paragraph means "______". ( )
A. take photos of B. land on C. move away from D. fly over
63. What's the best title for the passage? ( )
A. A New Home on the Moon
B. Life on the Space Station
C. How to Build a Rocket
D. The History of Chang'e Missions

When Wang Yaping was a young girl in a small village, she never imagined that one day she would float hundreds of kilometres above the Earth. She loved running, and she trained hard to become a pilot. In 2013, she flew to the space lab and gave China's first live space lecture — more than sixty million students watched her do experiments in space.
In 2021, she made history again. She became China's first woman astronaut to walk in space. During the six-month mission, she and her workmates did many science experiments and performed spacewalks. "When I walked outside the space station, I could see our beautiful blue Earth, and it took my breath away every time," she said.
Wang is also called the "space teacher". She has given several space classes from the space station, showing students how water behaves without gravity and how to turn around in a weightless world. "I hope these classes can plant a seed of dreams in your hearts," she tells young people. "One day, you may carry the dream and fly even farther."
64. What did Wang Yaping do in 2013? ( )
A. She performed her first spacewalk.
B. She gave China's first live space lecture.
C. She became a pilot.
D. She walked on the moon.
65. How does Wang describe her spacewalk? ( )
A. Easy and relaxing.
B. Scary and boring.
C. Too dangerous to try.
D. Amazing — the beautiful Earth took her breath away.
66. Why does Wang give space classes? ( )
A. To make more money.
B. To become famous.
C. To plant a seed of dreams in young hearts.
D. To test new equipment.

Since the beginning of human history, people have looked up at the stars and wondered what they were like. Many ancient cultures believed that these points of light were from gods or other mysterious worlds. However, as technology and science developed, we learnt the truth: stars are real places like our own sun, and they are farther away than anyone imagined.
The man-made object which has travelled farthest from Earth is Voyager 1. This spacecraft was launched in 1977. In case Voyager 1 is found by alien life one day, a special record with sounds and pictures from Earth is carried on board. It shows who we are and where we are from. By 2025, Voyager 1 was over 25 billion kilometres from Earth, but that is still a long way from Earth's second-closest star, which is 4.2 light years away.
Visiting the stars gets even more difficult for space flights with humans. The farthest that any human has travelled in space is only about 400,000 kilometres, to the far side of the moon. A journey to Mars will take around six to nine months. What will the astronauts eat and drink during this period? How about their health and safety?
Scientists, however, believe that visiting the stars is not a completely wild dream. One idea is to have the astronauts sleep during their journey, like some animals do in winter. Another is to develop much faster spacecraft. While this is not possible right now, with nations and scientists cooperating with one another, there is hope that the necessary technology will be developed. It seems likely that one day we will reach the stars.
