Ieoh Ming Pei is a Chinese-American architect (建筑师) known as a master of modern architecture. He won many important prizes in architecture. Pei designed some of the world’s most special and famous buildings. Among them are the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum and the Suzhou Museum. He created a beautiful balance between the East and the West.
He was born in Guangzhou, China in 1917. The history of his family goes back to the Ming Dynasty, when they moved to Suzhou — the center of culture in China at that time. At the age of ten, Pei moved with his family to Shanghai. The international buildings along the Bund (外滩) made a deep impression on him and deeply influenced his later work. His interest in architecture was developing.
Pei enjoyed watching American films and it was through this that he decided to move to the United States to study architecture. In 1942, he got married. Under his wife’s influence, he changed from another university to Harvard to study architecture. There he was given the chance to study modern architecture. Later, he set up his own company called I. McKayla goes to an Alpha School. Her favorite subject is history. At her school, it’s not taught by a teacher. It’s taught by AI. People started these schools in 2014. They are not public schools, and they use AI to help kids learn.
Many school areas are reducing classroom tech. In Los Angeles, California, public schools have strict new rules on classroom screen time. On September 2, New York City said public primary and middle students should stop using AI. However, Alpha Schools are going in the opposite direction. There were 12 of them last school year. By the end of this school year, there will be 50.
At an Alpha School, students still sit in classrooms, but there are no teachers. Adult guides run the classrooms. They watch over as students finish their lessons on their own. Students use computers with AI software (软件). It teaches standard subjects such as math and writing for two hours a day.
McKayla enjoys Alpha’s“life skills workshops.”These make up most of the school day. The workshops, taught by experts or guides, teach kids skills such as finance (金融) and public speaking. Tasha Arnold, head of Alpha Schools, says the workshops are possible because AI allows students to get the standard subjects done quickly. “You learn what you need for school in a very short time,”Arnold said.
There are lots of ways to learn, with or without screens. Some students like McKayla think AI is“a really fun way to learn”that lets kids go at their own speed. They can move faster when a subject feels easy and slow down when they need more time. Other students, though, prefer a more traditional classroom.
63. What is special about Alpha Schools?
A. They have no teachers. B. They don’t use computers.
C. They are public schools. D. They teach different subjects.
64. How long do students use AI software for standard subjects each day?
A. One hour. B. Two hours. C. Three hours. D. Four hours.
65. What can students learn from “life skills workshops”?
A. How to speak in public. B. How to take tests faster.
C. How to use AI software. D. How to learn standard subjects.
66. What can we infer from the text?
A. AI is the only way to learn. B. All students prefer Alpha Schools.
C. The number of Alpha Schools is growing. D. Traditional classrooms will soon disappear.
67. In which part of a magazine can we read the text?
A. Travel. B. Sports. C. Health. D. Education.

2026 is the 65th year of the diplomatic (外交的) relations between China and Laos (老挝). China-Laos Railway was built successfully and was opened on 3rd December 2021. Thanks to it, the friendship between the two countries has grown even stronger.
China-Laos Railway starts from Kunming, China in the north and ends in Vientiane, Laos in the south. It is more than 1,000 kilometres. Since the start of the whole line in December 2016, more than 20,000 builders of China-Laos Railway had been fighting for more than 1,800 days and nights.

Look at the people around you. Some of them may be the ones you admire — a parent, a teacher, or even a classmate. 73
Scientists have found that role models (榜样) do more than make us feel warm inside. 74 In one study, students who read stories about hard-working scientists got better grades in science. The reason is simple: when we see someone like us succeed, we begin to believe that we can succeed too.
75 Nobody wins all the time. A good role model shows us that failure is not the end of the road. The writer J. K. Rowling sent her first book to twelve publishers (出版商), but all of them said no. 76 Today, millions of children grow up with her stories. Her experience tells us that “no” today does not mean “never” tomorrow.
But a role model does not have to be famous. An ordinary person can be a role model too. For example, someone around you often helps others and asks for nothing. 77 What really matters is not how great the person is, but what we learn from him or her.
So choose your own role models. Let their courage become your courage. You may not notice the change today, but one day you will find that you have grown into someone else’s role model.
A. Do role models have to be famous?
B. Then he or she can be a role model.
C. They change the way we think and act.
D. Her books are popular among young readers.
E. Role models also teach us how to face failure.
F. Why do some people become our role models?
G. She did not stop, and her book finally came out.
