Museum VR Creates New Ways
The National Museum of Natural History, Paris
Since 2018,visitors to the National Museum of Natural History have been able to enjoy a fascinating VR experience. De Réalité Virtuelle was the first permanent museum room in the country dedicated to VR technology. Once they enter the room, guests enjoy a specially designed programme: Journey into the Heart of Evolution. Here they will discover the links between species and can zoom in on different creatures to learn more.
The Renwick Gallery, Washington, D.C.
Using a free app, visitors to this museum can use their own devices to view the full views of the gallery, alongside video interviews with the curator(馆长) and some of the artists. Thanks to VR technology, the works by nine leading artists are available to experience in a new way even though the physical exhibition at the museum has ended.
Peterson Automotive Museum, Los Angeles
Peterson Automotive Museum worked with Microsoft HoloLens to create a new VR exhibition. Visitors were able to interact with a classic American sports car, the Ford GT40.The HoloLens allowed visitors to see the car up close. Visitors were further drawn into the experience by the addition of surround sound. While learning about the history of cars, they could also hear the roar of the engines.
The Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Fans of the Lewis Carroll classic will be able to “travel down the rabbit hole” into a virtual space. People can join a “trip” into Wonderland without having to leave the sofa. The opening of the Alice exhibition has been postponed. But the museum said an at-home, virtual reality event, ahead of the opening, will transport “visitors into the world of Wonderland”.

As a young girl I grew up on books. My fifth-grade teacher, Jody Delay, facilitated(促进) that love of books. Every day during fifth grade I walked into a room with one wall completely lined with books. Mrs Delay had over one thousand books in her classroom.
She started the year off saying that she might give a book to any of us who showed such great interest in it. She had given a book to a student a few years before and I wanted to be presented with a book very much. So I checked out The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke frequently. She never gave me the book, but I developed a deep love for Ms Cornelia’s stories. I refused to watch the movie on principle.
My mum had requirements about what I was allowed to do according to what we believed. With Mrs Delay, I wouldn’t have to read anything that made my mum uncomfortable. I would pick up a book, look at it and consider it, and if it didn’t fit, she would gently take it away from my hands, explain to me that it wasn’t suitable and then point me in the direction of a better book.
What really made the difference in how I saw Mrs Delay was a spring break. I borrowed a book from her a day during schooldays, so I didn’t know what I would do if I was left without any new books for a week. Mrs Delay sent me home with a pile of books bigger than I was. It seemed to go on forever. I think I only managed to read about half, but I lied and told her that I read every one. The last thing I wanted to do was let her down.
Every time I think about what made me into the book-lover that I am, I think back to that spring break, and I laugh.

A.Disappointed. B.Embarrassed.
C.Relieved. D.Worried.

A.She was unable to finish all those books at all.
B.She didn’t want to make Mrs Delay feel unhappy.

D.She was afraid Mrs Delay wouldn’t lend books to her.

A 2018 Guardian article predicted a hopeless future for Icelandic as a language: “fighting the threat of ‘digital extinction’”.In that report, it was explained how the mother tongue and the cultural identity of Iceland are getting stuck on the Internet that is almost entirely in English. The Icelandic government also warned a few years ago that in a few generations, if it could not continue to be the country’s default language in the face of rapid digitization, it would disappear completely.
To protect it, the country coins Icelandic terms for new concepts rather than borrowing words from other languages.Computer, for example, becomes “tlva”.The goal is for the language to remain linguistically “pure” and maintain the essence of its Old Norse roots.
Despite this, Icelandic is only used today by about 340,000 people. And at a time when Netflix, YouTube, and voice assistants have become the norm in the globalized world, Icelandic is sinking into an ocean of English.
Then the government had an idea: GPT-4.
A few months ago, OpenAI released the long-awaited GPT-4 model, an upgrade to the technology behind its popular ChatGPT.The company claims that GPT-4 is its “most advanced system”.It declares that GPT-4 goes beyond ChatGPT in its advanced reasoning abilities and can create more complicated and capable language models. And in this new release Iceland has seen a solution to its problems. The country’s president has partnered with OpenAI to use GPT-4 to protect Icelandic.
However, as OpenAI’s GPT models are largely trained by text on the Internet, most of the technical knowledge and training are in English. That means GPT doesn’t have the same comprehension abilities in smaller languages like Icelandic. It would have some grammar and cultural errors and doesn’t always produce correct Icelandic translations. To address this, the Icelandic language technology company Miðeind ehf has asked a team of 40 volunteers to train GPT-4 in proper Icelandic grammar and cultural knowledge so that the model can use more complex and creative applications in Icelandic, instead of using English by default.
8.What does the first paragraph intend to show?
A.The development of digitization.
B.The difficult situation of Icelandic.
C.The connection between English and Icelandic.
D.The government’s efforts to protect Icelandic
9.What does OpenAI say about its GPT-4 model?
A.It needs to be upgraded.
B.It aims to protect Icelandic.
C.It can take over ChatGPT in the future.
D.It performs better than ChatGPT in some aspects.
10.How does Miðeind ehf improve GPT-4’s performance?
A.By letting some people train GPT-4.
B.By creating Icelandic terms for new concepts.
C.By adding the most advanced system to GPT-4.
D.By removing incorrect translations from its database.
11.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.GPT-4: A Tool to Protect Icelandic
B.Icelandic: A Language Protected by OpenAI
C.Iceland Fails to Protect Its Mother Tongue
D.OpenAI Creates the Most Advanced Language Model

Is Society Too Dependent On Technology?
Just think: what would happen if your computer,iPad,or laptop crashed today? What if someone took away your phone for some days or perhaps you lost it?If thinking about these incidents makes you stressed, you are not alone. 12
Most of us cannot go for a minute without looking at our phones, and the fear of the battery dying is huge.If you happen to work in an office, you may be familiar with this trend. 13 Anyway, it’s true. How can work continue if it’s hard to send an email to a colleague or customer? This is common in almost all offices.
14 Those evening games after school are over; watching cartoons on a Sunday or playing with friends are no longer there.Today, most kids remain indoors playing computer games or with a smartphone.Technology has taken all their time.
Society may have gone too far in technology dependence. It has become so huge that doctors have recommended a “technology detox”. 15 If not, according to Oxford Dictionary, Technology Detox is a period during which an individual avoids using any electronic devices, including computers, smartphones, etc., as a chance to reduce stress and focus on social interaction in the outside world.
Well, the choice remains in our hands. We must agree that society is being carried away by the increased inventions being introduced in our lives today. 16 Meanwhile,we should have the discipline to turn it off when we are supposed to experience life in reality.
A.Perhaps you may have heard of it.
B.We appreciate technology since it has its benefits.
C.If the Internet is down, all the tasks are over for the day.
D.Technology addiction is sure to cause social problems.
E.Today, most people are becoming dependent on technology.
F.Here are some signs that our generation depends too much on technology.
G.Kids used to spend a lot of time with each other or their parents playing or just sharing stories.
