Unit 6 Useful numbers Part A Let’s talk 第一课 (教学设计） I. Teaching Aims 1. Ss can listen, speak and read the words “brother, sister” and the number words one to ten. 2. Ss can introduce a family member with “This is my brother/sister.” and greet with “Hello! / Hi!”. 3. Ss can ask and talk about age with “How old are you? I'm five years old.” and answer “Me too.”. 4. Ss know that numbers are useful in daily life and are willing to talk about their family. II. Key and Difficult Points Key points: the words brother, sister and the sentences “This is my brother/sister.” and “How old are you? I'm ... years old.”. Difficult points: the question “How old are you?” and its full answer “I'm ... years old.”; some Ss may only say the number and forget “years old”. III. Teaching Tools word cards, pictures of a family, name cards with numbers, a small ball, PPT and the audio of the dialogue. IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Warm-up and lead-in (5 mins) 1. Greet the Ss and count one to ten together with a number clap. 2. Show some numbers in life (a phone number, a schoolbus number) and ask: When do we use numbers? [Purpose] To warm the class up and activate the number words the Ss already know. Step 2 Presentation (12 mins) 1. Show the picture and teach “brother” and “sister” with “Binbin, this is my brother, Sam. / This is my sister, Xinxin.” 2. Play the audio. Ss listen and find: How old is Sam? Then teach “How old are you? I'm five years old.” and “Me too.” 3. Ss read after the tape and read the dialogue with the teacher. [Purpose] To present the new words and the target sentences in the picture context, so Ss understand them before practice. Step 3 Practice (10 mins) 1. Ss read the dialogue in groups of three and act it out. 2. Choose and role-play: Ss pick a name card (Tim 3 / Feifei 4 / Xiaoli 5) and do “Hello! How old are you? I'm ... years old.” [Purpose] To practise the sentences many times in a fun way and help Ss say them fluently. Step 4 Production (8 mins) 1. Pair work: Ss bring a family photo and say “This is my brother/sister.”, then ask and answer the age. 2. Some pairs come to the front and show their talk. [Purpose] To let Ss use the language to talk about their own family, moving from the text to real life. Step 5 Summary (3 mins) 1. Review the sentences on the blackboard together. 2. Say with the Ss: Numbers are useful! We use numbers every day. [Purpose] To organize the lesson and bring the topic “Why are numbers important?” back. Step 6 Homework (2 mins) 1.
