Unit 3 Our animal friends Part B Start to read 第六课 (教学设计） I. Teaching Objectives 1. Knowledge: Ss can recognise and say the animals in the story — giraffe, lion, elephant, fish — and the four words tall, fast, big, small. 2. Ability: Ss can read the short text about "Great animals" and match each animal with the right word (The giraffe is tall. The lion is fast...), then group the animals into big / small / tall / fast. 3. Emotion: Ss enjoy reading about animals and learn to like and protect animals. II. Key & Difficult Points Key points: read and understand the text; use "The ___ is ___!" to talk about animals. Difficult points: telling tall and fast apart, and reading the whole sentences with the right feeling. III. Teaching Tools PPT, animal pictures (giraffe, lion, elephant, fish), word cards (tall, fast, big, small), and a recording player. IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Warm-up (5 mins) 1. Play a chant of "Run, run, run like a dog" to get Ss moving. 2. Show animal pictures and ask: What's this? Revise the animal words. [Teaching Purpose] Wake up the old words and lead into the topic of animals. Step 2 Presentation (10 mins) 1. Show the four pictures. Teach giraffe-tall, lion-fast, elephant-big, fish-small with gestures. 2. Read each sentence aloud: The giraffe is tall! Help Ss feel the exclamation. [Teaching Purpose] Help Ss link each animal with a describing word in a real picture. Step 3 Practice (10 mins) 1. Ss listen and read the text after the recording. 2. Pair work: one points, one says a sentence about the picture. [Teaching Purpose] Practise the sentences and build reading confidence. Step 4 Group work (8 mins) 1. Give Ss the animal list (bird, cat, dog, elephant, fish, giraffe, lion, monkey, panda, rabbit, tiger). 2. Ss circle the animals in the text and put them into four groups: big / small / tall / fast. [Teaching Purpose] Train Ss to sort words by meaning and use the new words actively. Step 5 Summary (5 mins) 1. Go over the four words: tall, fast, big, small. 2. Ss say one favourite animal and one sentence: The ___ is ___! [Teaching Purpose] Sum up the lesson and let every S speak once. Step 6 Homework (2 mins) 1. Read the text to mum or dad. 2.
