For most people, having something important stolen feels like a disaster.Robbie Pruitt
admitted when his mountain bike was stolen last September,he got mad.But soon his emotions
took a turn. After letting go of his anger,he found himself on a road to sympathy (instead.
As a biker,Pruitt's first priority was to buy one again, but when he went bike shopping,he found
the options limited. The shortage in supply got him thinking:What if the person who'd taken his
bike had done so because he truly needed bikes to get to work?
With that thought in mind,Pruitt came up with a plan and posted it to a local Facebook
group. He offered to fix bikes free of charge for anyone who needed it.Pruitt also put out a call
for bikes people don't use, which he would repair-again for free-and then donate to people
who could truly use them but didn't have the budget to buy a bike.
The day the post was put out,Pruitt was excited about a list of 30 used bicycles. And this
was followed by more than 500 posts from people who either had bikes to donate or that needed
fixing soon after.By the end of the month,Pruitt had repaired more than 140 bikes for donation.
Pruitt tries to give his donations to struggling families.Beyond simply satisfying a material
need,he has provided an opportunity for kids in his neighborhood to learn how to fix their own
bikes.
In addition to practical skills,Pruitt's lessons teach teamwork, encourage self-esteem,and
develop feelings of community."Pruitt is certainly providing a service, but it's not the bikes. It's
the relationships in the community. It's the impact he made on people. All the neighborhood kids
are spending a lot more time doing something that's in their power,"Pruitt's next-door neighbor
Danny told The Washington Post.
24.How did Pruitt feel after he went to the bike shop?

AI seems to be everywhere within education-a global survey found 86%of students use
AI in their studies, with nearly one in four using it daily. This can be beneficial if AI is used
responsibly,in accordance with school policy. There's no doubt that large language models can
be expert in breaking down difficult concepts simply and clearly.A Nature article found that AI
tutoring (outperforms in-class active learning, with college students also feeling more
engaged when the content is presented by Al.
However, there's growing evidence that students ought to be cautious when choosing to
use Al.A sfuidy from MIT split subjects into three groups and asked them to write SAT essays:
The group that had access to ChatGPT had the lowest brain connectivity when writing, struggled
to accurately quote their own work and "consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and
behavioral levels."Another study found while students who used ChatGPT to research a
scientific topic did have a lower cognitive load, their reasoning was less thorough. These studies
start to paint a picture:AI has the potential to negatively impact our critical thinking and
problem-solving skills even while saving time.
Of course, one can reasonably argue that new technology has always led to some skills
becoming dated. The rise of calculators led to a decline in the importance of our ability to do
mental arithmetic ()But AI differs from these technologies.Working to reason out a
problem or research a topic not only creates better topic understanding, but it bolsters the
problem-solving and critical thinking skills we use in every aspect of our daily life. Thus, the
harm of skipping this process with Al is more than simply a reduced understanding of an
academic concept or a skill not learned.
We should continue to research the effects of AI.Using AI for research, conceptual
understanding or even coding can help, but we should take a moment before using AI to
determine if we actually need it.
28.What is a characteristic of AI tutoring?
A.It has gained wide recognition among teachers
B.It does well in linking concepts to real-life situations.
C.It focuses on improving mental calculating ability.
D.It makes college students more.involved in learning.
29.What do the studies in paragraph 2 find in common?
A.Al improves students'writing accuracy greatly.
B.Al promotes active participation in academic research.
C.AI reduces mental pressure while strengthening memory.
D.Al weakens students'thinking and problem-solving abilities.
30.What does the underlined word"bolsters"in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Limits.B.Reflects.
C.Sharpens.
D.Evaluates.
31.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To advise on reasonable use of Al in study.
B.To stress the importance of critical thinking.
C.To show the popularity of Al among students.
D.To introduce the functions ofAl in edueation.

Every morning in graduate school,Christy would wave to the woman selling hot dogs
outside her building."If she wasn't there on a given day, things didn't feel right.I missed her,"
says Christy, now a psychology(心理学)expert at a university in the U.K.“It was this huge
source of comfort and safety, and it was with someone I never talked to."
That connection satisfied a deep, bodily need for Christy, just like water relieves thirst.
Humans are intensely social animals, and research increasingly suggests that losing our
connections to others can negatively impact our health.A 2023 report called widespread
loneliness in the U.S.a deadly health risk comparable to smoking up tol5 cigarettes (a day.
On the other hand,a Harvard study found that having strong relationships is key to living a long
and happy life. The study also showed that people between 80 and 89 years old in happy
marriages reported that their happiness remained stable even on days when they were in greater
physical pain.
But close relationships aren't the only social ties that matter.Chatting with a stranger,
giving a smile of recognition to the waiter in your local coffee shop,or waving to the people you
see every day at the park creates a much-needed sense of community."We can't achieve
happiness by ourselves. We simply cannot survive or live well without feeling like we are
accepted,"says Christy.
These "weak tie"relationships aren't a replacement for the deeper, more meaningful
connections we also need. But Christy says we should recognize and celebrate their importance,
and push ourselves to engage in them because they're so beneficial to our sense of well-being."I
am not outgoing,"she says."And,at the same time,I love talking to strangers.I believe that
anyone can do it..”
32.How did Christy feel when she couldn't see the woman as usual?
A.Safe.
B.Disappointed.
C.Angry.
D.Satisfied.
33.What did the Harvard study find?
A.Older adults feel happier in marriages.
B.Physical pain negatively affects happiness
C.Close relationships lead to long-term well-being
D.Happiness has little to do with social connections.
34.Why are"weak tie"relationships meaningful?
A.They contribute to our happiness.
B.They help us to be outgoing
C.They replace close relationships.
D.They push us to communicate.
35.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Advantages of Being Lonely
B.Influence of Meeting New People
C.Value of Strong Social Connections
D.Importance of“Weak Tie”Relationships

3 Ways to Create an Exercise Habit
A lot of people want to know how to get motivated(有s动力的)to work out and build an
exercise habit that sticks.Of course, wanting to make exercise a habit and actually doing it are
two different things.Changing your behavior is difficult.3p.But there are some
strategies that can make it easier to stick with an exercise habit.
Develop a routine to make starting easier.
37.That means they are also behaviors that you start over and over again. If you
can develop a routine that makes starting your workout mindless and automatic, then it will be
much easier to follow through. You can start building your own routine by adding your exercise
habit on top of a current habit or by setting a schedule for yourself.
38
The best way to make exercise a habit is to start with an exercise that is so easy that you can
do it even when you can't get motivated to work out.Struggling to find motivation to go for a run?
39.That's all you have to do to consider today's workout a success.Often, this little start
will be enough to get your motivation flowing and help you finish the task.
Focus on the habit first and the results later.
The typical approach to diet and exercise is to focus on results first. Most people start with
some type of goal.“I want to lose20 pounds in the next4 months.”Or,“I want to squat(蹲¥)
50 pounds more six months from now."40.What matters most in the beginning is
establishing a new normal that you will stick to,not the results that you get.
A.But this is the wrong approach.
B.Living a new type of lifestyle is hard.
C.Start with an exercise that is very small.
D.Never work out while you are running low on willpower.
E Habits are behaviors that you repeat over and over again.
F.Just fill up your water bottle and put on your running shoes.
G.If you don't consistently get started,then you won't have a habit.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was in middle school,my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest.
I said no without thinking.I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil,so English was
only my second language.Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had
allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played
all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So,why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply:
"Because I love your stories. If you're willing to apply yourself,I think you have a good shot at
this.Encouraged by his words,I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere's horse as my subject.Paul Revere was a silversmith (in Boston
who rode a horse at night on April 18,1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers
were coming. My story would come straight from the horse's mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but
funny;and unlikely to be anyone else's choice.
What did the horse think,as he sped through the night?Did he get tired?Have doubts?Did
he want to quit?I sympathized immediately.I got tired.I had doubts.I wanted to quit. But,like
Revere's horse,I kept going.I worked hard.I checked my spelling.I asked my older sister to
correct my grammar.I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library.I even
read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher,he read it,laughed out loud, and said,"Great.
Now,write it again."I wrote it again,and again and again.When I finally finished it,the thought
of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn't win,I wouldn't care.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.
I went to my teacher's office after the award presentation.
