Oliver Twist was an orphan living in a workhouse in 19th‑century London. Food was not enough for those poor children staying there. Every day the boys could only get a little thin bowl of gruel for supper. The children always felt hungry day and night. They often dreamed of tasting delicious bread and hot meat, but those nice foods were far away from their real life. The living conditions in the workhouse were terrible and cold all year round. One day, they held a secret meeting in the corner. They decided that one boy should go and ask for more food. Poor Oliver was chosen by all the other boys.
After supper, Oliver walked up slowly to the master with his empty bowl in hands. “Please, sir, I want some more.” These few simple words shocked everyone staying in the room. The master’s face turned pale right away. No poor boy in the workhouse had ever dared to ask for more food before. Oliver was soon punished and locked in a cold dark room alone. Later, the workhouse managers tried to send him far away from the building.
Oliver’s story tells us a lot. In hard times, some people keep their courage even when they are in great pain. True bravery is not about power or physical strength. It lies deep inside one’s heart. Even when you are in a terrible situation and no one offers help, inner courage can light your way forward and push you not to give up easily.
( )6. Where did Oliver Twist live at first?
A. In a rich family B. In a workhouse
C. On the street D. In a big hotel
( )7. What food could the children get for supper every day?
A. Much delicious bread B. Lots of meat
C. A little thin gruel D. Fresh fruit
( )8. Why was everybody shocked?
A. Because Oliver ran away alone.
B. Because Oliver asked for more food.
C. Because Oliver stole lots of food.
D. Because Oliver fought with other boys.
( )9. What happened to Oliver after he spoke those words?
A. He got more delicious food.
B. He was praised by the master.
C. He was punished and locked in a dark room.
D. He became the master’s helper.
( )10. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. It tells us the meaning of inner courage.
B. It introduces the history of London food.
C. It teaches us how to make delicious gruel.
D. It describes how to run a workhouse.
C
Nowadays artificial intelligence is widely used in teenagers’ daily study. AI can work as a helpful learning partner for middle‑school students, but it is never a perfect replacement for real human teachers. More and more city students begin to use different kinds of AI tools for their school study these days. Many students turn to AI when they meet difficulties in review or writing tasks.
AI tools can offer personalized learning plans. After analysing students’ homework and test performance data, AI finds out their weak knowledge points. Then it provides suitable exercises and related knowledge points for each student. Besides, students can ask AI for explanations whenever they meet difficult grammar or reading problems. They can get quick replies without waiting for teachers’ spare time after class. This great convenience makes AI popular among many young learners.
However, AI also brings clear risks. If students depend too much on AI to finish homework or write compositions, they will lose chances to practise independent thinking. It will be hard for them to form their own ideas. What’s more, AI may also give wrong answers sometimes. So students must learn to check AI’s output carefully by themselves and tell right information from mistakes.
AI is just a powerful tool. The key is for teenagers to make good use of it. It should support our study instead of doing all the school‑work for us. We should make AI serve us, rather than become slaves to high‑tech tools. Only in this way can we improve ourselves and make progress step by step.
( )11. What can AI do as a learning partner?
A. Take all exams for students
B. Offer personalized learning plans
C. Replace all human teachers completely
D. Write all students’ compositions for free
( )12. How does AI find students’ weak points in study?
A. By talking with their parents
B. By analysing their homework and test performance
C. By reading all their text‑books
D. By asking their teachers for information
( )13. What risk will we face if we depend too much on AI?
A. We will finish homework much faster.
B. We will lose chances of independent thinking.
C. We will get higher marks in every exam.
D. We will know all knowledge without effort.
( )14. What does the writer think of AI for study?
A. AI is useless for all teenagers.
B. Students should make good use of AI as a tool.
C. Every student must stop using AI at once.
D. AI can solve all learning difficulties.
( )15. Which is the best title for this article?
A. AI: a helpful tool for teenage study
B. How to write compositions by AI
C. Different kinds of AI robots
D. Why teachers will disappear soon
D 七选五(议论文・媒介素养,有2个多余选项)

五、任务型阅读(表格填空,共 10 空,每空一词,1.5 分,计 15 分)
Read the passage and complete the table. Each blank uses one word only.
Nowadays many city teenagers are under great pressure in daily life. Pressure mainly comes from three sides: school study, different after‑school courses and social‑media influence. More city teenagers meet this problem as modern life becomes faster‑paced. They have to face different challenges almost every day, so feeling stressed has become quite common among teenagers.
Too much homework and frequent tests bring heavy study pressure. Many students take different after‑school courses to improve their personal skills and keep up with their classmates. Besides, teenagers often compare themselves with shining online stars on social‑media platforms. They pay much attention to others’ wonderful life online. This also brings them unnecessary pressure and makes them feel less confident about themselves.
Proper pressure can push us to make progress in study. However, too much pressure is bad for our physical and mental health. It may make us feel tired, worried or even upset. There are several useful ways to deal with pressure. First, take enough exercise to relax our bodies. Second, communicate with trusted people such as parents or teachers. Sharing your worries will make you feel much better. Third, set reasonable goals and stop comparing ourselves with others online.
Pressure cannot be completely avoided in our teenage life. If we use proper ways, we can keep it under good control and live a positive teenage life.
