However, he never looks down upon me, nor does he become fed up with my “silly” questions. Instead, he explains the knowledge to me patiently, sparking my interest in learning math with lots of novel ways and ideas. Whenever I felt upset, he would talk to me and encourage me.  He is not only my teacher but also my best friend. I really want to say thanks to my math teacher. Hearing Mom’s words, Mary gazed at the precious red ribbon. She imagined the scene where Mom had tried her best to overcome her fears and picked up the courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. Realizing Mary’s anxiety, Mom reassured her and reached out her hand to tie the red ribbon onto Mary’s wrist with a smile. Restored and determined, Mary gritted (咬紧牙关) her teeth to find her courage. She stood in front of a mirror and practiced. “You can do it,” she told herself when drowsiness (昏昏欲睡) fell upon her. The next day Mary again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. She nervously lowered her head and averted her gaze, feeling numb for a few seconds. But courage found its way back the moment she caught sight of the red ribbon on her wrist. Comforted and inspired, she took a deep breath, summoned up her courage, and said “Dear fellow students.” Mary cast a glance at Mr. Brown who was standing in the corner and smiling at her. A self-reassuring smile spread across Mary’s face. She knew for sure that she had now found her courage. How much is the shirt? Over the several days I spent with them, I began to understand the sense of freedom that mountaineering brings. Then about three years later, I gave up my job and joined the British Top Expedition. We trained at a local gym, which was the easy part. However, I found there were lots of things that frightened me about Mt. Qomolangma. That was one of the most difficult things for climbing. On my second trip, I didn’t even take my toothbrush. Besides, I had to get water from snow, using the fuel that I brought with me. In Britain, Mr Atkinson is mostly famous for many successful TV shows but internationally we know him best as the awkward, clumsy, but always amusing Mr Bean. If you think that Rowan Atkinson is anything like his famous creation, then you are in for a surprise. On the contrary, he is nothing like Mr Bean. Rowan was born on 6 January, 1955. He grew up on a farm with his parents and three older brothers. His father was very strict and did not believe in the value 10 of television. Rowan had a very successful academic career. At the age of 13, he was awarded a scholarship to a boarding school. Later, he studied at Newcastle University, where he attained the highest marks in his year. At Oxford, he obtained his master’s degree in electrical engineering. This may explain why he loves fast cars, of which he has many. When Rowan was young, he had a stutter and to make his speech clearer, he began to speak very carefully. This may be why some of his characters have unusual ways of speaking. As early as primary school, Rowan had already shown a talent for acting, but it was only later at university that he decided to become an actor. A key event occurred one day in 1976 when he was playing around and pulling a face in the mirror. “I discovered my face,” he said later. John Lloyd, who worked as a producer for BBC Television, says that one rarely meets someone with such genius, and that when he worked with Atkinson he became convinced that Rowan would be more famous than Charlie Chaplin. 24. From the first paragraph we know________. A. Mr. Atkinson is completely different from Mr. Bean B. Mr. Atkinson is famous to the British as a comedian C. Mr. Atkinson is very much like Mr. Bean D. Mr. Atkinson is really Mr. Bean 25. The reason why Mr. Atkinson loves fast cars is that ________. A. he was awarded a scholarship B. he has many fast cars C. he is good at electrical engineering D. he attained the highest marks 26. What does the sentence “I discovered my face” mean? A. he found he is handsome. B. he saw his face in the mirror. C. he realized he had genius as an actor. D. he didn’t know who he was. 27. Which of the following may be the best title of the passage? A. Rowan Atkinson B. The Contemporary Chaplin C. A famous Comedian D. A Talented Actor 【答案】24. A 25. C 26. C 27. 根据第一段中的“If you think that Rowan Atkinson is anything like his famous creation, then you are in for a surprise. On the contrary, he is nothing like Mr Bean.(如果你认为罗温・艾金森和他塑造的经典角色有任何相似之处,那你可要大吃一惊了。恰恰相反,他和憨豆先生毫无相似之处)”可知,罗温・艾金森和憨豆先生完全不一样。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“At Oxford, he obtained his master’s degree in electrical engineering. This may explain why he loves fast cars, of which he has many.(在牛津大学,他取得了电气工程硕士学位。这或许就能解释为什么他钟爱跑车,而且拥有不少辆)”可知,艾金森热爱跑车的原因是他精通电气工程。故选C项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中的“As early as primary school, Rowan had already shown a talent for acting, but it was only later at university that he decided to become an actor. A key event occurred one day in 1976 when he was playing around and pulling a face in the mirror. ‘I discovered my face,’ he said later.(早在小学时,罗温就已经展现出了表演天赋,但直到后来上了大学,他才决定成为一名演员。1976年的一天,一件关键的事发生了 —— 当时他正对着镜子做鬼脸玩闹。他后来回忆道:“我发现了自己的面部天赋。”)”可知,这句话的含义是他意识到自己具备演员的天赋。故选C项。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,并根据第六段“John Lloyd, who worked as a producer for BBC Television, says that one rarely meets someone with such genius, and that when he worked with Atkinson he became convinced that Rowan would be more famous than Charlie Chaplin.(英国广播公司电视台制片人约翰・劳埃德表示,拥有这般天赋的人实属罕见,而且在与艾金森合作后,他坚信罗温会比查理・卓别林更加声名远扬)”可知,文章结尾借业内人士的评价,将罗温・艾金森与喜剧大师卓别林相提并论,突出其喜剧天赋与行业地位,以此升华主题。 C(社会热点) Older people worry about how to make young ones, who love their devices, interested in old books. Like the Monkey King from Journey to the West, he was a favorite hero before the Internet came along. Havoc in Heaven《大闹天宫》, a new Peking Opera film, attracted the wider public to the charm of the traditional Chinese performance art, featuring one of the best-known chapters from Journey to the West. This film, expected to create a new channel to promote Peking Opera, includes nearly all the key ingredients of Peking Opera. It covers all the basic techniques, more than 10 classic tunes, and make-up for dozens of facial representations of different figures’ characteristics. It’s actually a big challenge to combine Peking Opera and film, each of which has its own rhythm, according to Cheng Lu, director of the film, who is adopting a fresh approach to present the traditional art form. One challenge that Cheng and his production team faced is how to balance the new approach with maintaining the fundamentals of the art. The basic principles and performance skills in Peking Opera cannot be changed. Some background images on stage, such as a painted waterfall, remain, and a live band was on the set to provide sound for the film, rather than employing the prerecorded music. “If we change traditions to cater to people’s taste and preference for a regular film, it will no longer be a Peking Opera piece of art,” Cheng said. On the other hand, some creativity was needed because Cheng and his team did not just want to document a stage performance. Computer technology is also applied to achieve some visual effects and to present impossible scenes. Peking Opera films played a powerful role in the 1960s and 70s, but they gave way to more diverse entertainment. In recent years, there has been a recovery in the popularity of Peking Opera films. However, the overuse of special effects in many film adaptations of Peking Opera plays has weakened the original charm of the stage performances. The imagination (enabled by the stage) can never be sacrificed for a film’s expression. 28. What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To blame young people addicted to electronic devices. B. To express older people’s concern about the young generation. C. To arouse readers’ interest in traditional Chinese performance art. D. To introduce a new Peking Opera film that the article is to deal with. 29. What did Director Cheng do while producing the film? A. He made changes to basic performance skills. B. He made use of symbols and motions equally. C. He insisted on a band playing music on the scene. D. He brought onto the stage exact details of real life. 30. What innovation did Cheng’s team make? A. They opposed a rigid recording of the performance. B. They enriched visual effects with modern technology. C. They allowed actors to repeat actions before the camera. D. They adopted real explosion scenes during the shooting. 31. What can we conclude from the last paragraph? A. Imagination is a unique charm of Peking Opera films. B. Technology makes up for the loss of stage imagination. C. There is some possibility for a film to replace Peking Opera. D. The traditional appeal of Peking Opera should not be given up for movies. D 29. C 30. B 31. 根据第一段“Older people worry about how to make young ones, who love their devices, interested in old books. Like the Monkey King from Journey to the West, he was a favorite hero before the Internet came along. Havoc in Heaven, a new Peking Opera film, attracted the wider public to the charm of the traditional Chinese performance art, featuring one of the best-known chapters from Journey to the West.(老年人担心如何让那些热爱电子设备的年轻人对旧书感兴趣。就像《西游记》中的美猴王一样,在互联网出现之前,他是一个备受欢迎的英雄。《大闹天宫》这部新的京剧电影,吸引了广大公众对中国传统表演艺术的魅力,其中展现了《西游记》中最著名的章节之一。)”可知,第一段主要是为了引出文章的主题,即要介绍一部新的京剧电影《大闹天宫》。故选D。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Some background images on stage, such as a painted waterfall, remain, and a live band was on the set to provide sound for the film, rather than employing the prerecorded music.(舞台上的一些背景图像,如一幅画的水瀑布,仍然保留着,并且有一个现场乐队在片场为电影提供声音,而不是使用预先录制的音乐。)” 根据第五段“On the other hand, some creativity was needed because Cheng and his team did not just want to document a stage performance. Computer technology is also applied to achieve some visual effects and to present impossible scenes.(另一方面,需要一些创造力,因为程和他的团队不仅仅想记录一场舞台表演。计算机技术也被用来实现一些视觉效果,并呈现出不可能的场景。)”可知,程的团队用现代技术丰富了视觉效果。故选B。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“However, the overuse of special effects in many film adaptations of Peking Opera plays has weakened the original charm of the stage performances. The imagination (enabled by the stage) can never be sacrificed for a film’s expression.(然而,在许多京剧电影的改编中,特效的过度使用削弱了舞台表演的原始魅力。舞台所带来的想象力绝不能为了电影的表达而牺牲。)”可知,作者认为为了电影,不应该放弃京剧的传统魅力。故选D。 D In North America, monarch butterflies (帝王蝶) live about a month, but the last generation of the year, the ones that migrate (迁徙) south, can live around eight months. Since the 1990s, monarch populations have dropped, particularly at overwintering sites and populations found east of the Rocky Mountains have reduced by around 80 percent. Researchers think that higher temperatures caused by climate change could be a reason. But until now, no studies have specifically looked at that. To test this hypothesis (假设), Fedorka and his team collected nearly 500 wild monarchs before their migration in autumn and divided them into two groups. In the lab, they placed the two groups in migration-path temperature extremes — 23℃ and 19℃, based on 70 years of data. After 26 days, survivors were put into conditions that copied winter. The team found the monarchs that had been in the warmer temperature started laying eggs early — even when there was no milkweed around, the plant where monarchs lay their eggs and on which their young feed. “These monarchs are ready to drop out of migration at any moment,” Fedorka says. The team also found that male monarchs from the warmer group were 88 percent more likely to die than those from the colder group. Both male and female monarchs that had experienced warmer temperatures during their trip had a 28 percent higher risk of dying during winter—no matter what the winter temperatures were. The team admits that further research is needed to see how the results apply in the wild. Sonia Altizer, an expert who studies insects, notes that monarchs’ habit of stopping their trip south when it’s warm means they might one day stop migrating completely. Or, they could migrate only part of the way. And as monarchs help plants by carrying pollen from one flower to another, losing their migration would also mean losing an amazing natural event. “If we lose these groups of monarchs that migrate, we can never get them back,” Altizer says. 32. What does paragraph 2 focus on? A. The process of the experiment. B. The principle of dividing monarchs. C. The challenges of conducting the experiment. D. The specific results observed from the experiment. 33. Which of the following matches the team’s findings? A. Male monarchs die more easily than female ones. B. Warmer climate may make monarchs lay eggs early. C. Food sources come before temperatures for monarchs. D. Nothing along the journey can stop monarchs migrating. 34. What’s Altizer’s attitude towards monarchs’ migration? A. Hopeful. B. Uncaring. C. Worried. D. Unclear. 35. Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text? A. The Approach to Protecting Monarch Butterflies B. Monarch Butterflies’ Migration Path Across North America C. Temperature’s Influence on Migration of Monarch Butterflies D. The Life Differences Among Monarch Butterfly Generations 【答案】32. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第二段“To test this hypothesis (假设), Fedorka and his team collected nearly 500 wild monarchs before their migration in autumn and divided them into two groups. In the lab, they placed the two groups in migration-path temperature extremes — 23℃ and 19℃, based on 70 years of data. After 26 days, survivors were put into conditions that copied winter.(为了验证这一假设,费多克及其团队在秋季迁徙前收集了近500只野生帝王蝶,并将它们分成两组。在实验室中,他们根据70年的数据,将这两组蝴蝶置于迁徙路径所处温度的极端环境中——23摄氏度和19摄氏度。26天后,存活下来的蝴蝶被置于与冬季相似的环境中)”可知,本段主要描述了实验的具体实施过程。故选A。 根据第三段“The team found the monarchs that had been in the warmer temperature started laying eggs early — even when there was no milkweed around, the plant where monarchs lay their eggs and on which their young feed.(研究小组发现,那些处于较高温度环境中的帝王蝶开始产卵的时间明显提前了——即便周围没有马利筋(帝王蝶产卵及幼虫进食的植物)存在)”可知,温暖的气候可能会促使帝王蝶提前产卵,与该团队的研究结果相符。 根据最后一段“Sonia Altizer, an expert who studies insects, notes that monarchs’ habit of stopping their trip south when it’s warm means they might one day stop migrating completely. Or, they could migrate only part of the way. And as monarchs help plants by carrying pollen from one flower to another, losing their migration would also mean losing an amazing natural event. “If we lose these groups of monarchs that migrate, we can never get them back,” Altizer says.(研究昆虫的专家索尼娅·阿尔蒂泽指出,帝王蝶在天气转暖时会停止向南迁徙的这一习惯意味着,它们或许有一天会完全停止迁徙。 There’s magic in travel, and it’s obvious. Mr. Brown kindly ended Mary’s part of the presentation, even though she did clearly not finished. He also asked Mary to stay after class for a moment. “Mary. I know you’ re shy, but you worked hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Then Mr. Brown hesitated, before saying. “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage?” Mary nodded, grateful for the chance. She went as quickly as she could to her next class. She kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon. When she reached home that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Mom was baking. Mom studied Mary’s face as she came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, baby?” Tears shone in Mary’s brown eyes. She told Mom the whole story. Mom was silent for a moment. her hands still busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about everything, but you can’t talk to your class?” Mom asked and then said, “Let me show you something.” Mary followed Mom to her bedroom. There Mom showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings and pictures. In it there was a red ribbon (丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents. “I won it for public speaking. When I started on the speech team I was quiet as a mouse, but I ended the year as the winner. It wasn’t easy at first — I wasn’t sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage.” Hearing Mom’s words. A Talented Actor C(社会热点) Older people worry about how to make young ones, who love their devices, interested in old books. D In North America, monarch butterflies (帝王蝶) live about a month, but the last generation of the year, the ones that migrate (迁徙) south, can live around eight months. Havoc in Heaven《大闹天宫》,a new Peking Opera film, attracted the wider public to the charm of the traditional Chinese performance art, featuring one of the best-known chapters from Journey to the West. This film, expected to create a new channel to promote Peking Opera, includes nearly all the key ingredients of Peking Opera. It covers all the basic techniques, more than 10 classic tunes, and make-up for dozens of facial representations of different figures'characteristics. It's actually a big challenge to combine Peking Opera and film, each of which has its own rhythm, according to Cheng Lu,director of the film, who is adopting a fresh approach to present the traditional art form. One challenge that Cheng and his production team faced is how to balance the new approach with maintaining the fundamentals of the art.The basic principles and performance skills in Peking Opera cannot be changed. Some background images on stage, such as a painted waterfall, remain, and a live band was on the set to provide sound for the film, rather than employing the prerecorded music."If we change traditions to cater to people's taste and preference for a regular film,it will no longer be a Peking Opera piece of art,"Cheng said. B(社会热点) Rowan Atkinson is an English actor, comedian and screenwriter. A Talented Actor C(社会热点) Older people worry about how to make young ones, who love their devices, interested in old books. D In North America, monarch butterflies (帝王蝶) live about a month, but the last generation of the year, the ones that migrate (迁徙) south, can live around eight months.
