拓展阅读(课内同源 + 课外同源)
Passage 1(课内同源:Helping homeless animals)
Have you heard the news? The number of homeless animals in our city has increased by a large number in recent years, and the local animal hospitals are facing a big problem. They don’t have enough food or medicine, and they are also short of volunteers. This morning, the City Animal Hospital called on the public for help.
In a conversation, Jenny and Andy talked about what they could do.
“The animal hospitals need our help! Let’s donate some money and food,” said Andy. “I think we can do more,” said Jenny. “I read about a hospital this morning. It asks students to read to homeless animals!” “Why?” asked Andy. “It helps the animals feel comfortable around people,” said Jenny. “You know, this can prepare them for their future homes. It also gives people a chance to take care of them.”
“Can we take part in this activity?” asked Andy. “Sure. But the two of us might not help much. We need more people,” said Jenny. “The ‘School Volunteer Week’ is coming, you know? We could make a poster and ask more people to join us,” said Andy. “Good idea! We could also collect books and donate them to the hospital,” said Jenny. “We could donate money and food, too,” said Andy.
Reading to animals may sound unusual, but it shows that helping others — whether people or animals — can be creative. Every small act of kindness can make a difference.

Passage 2(课外同源:Helping animals in our neighbourhood)
Many people love animals, but not everyone knows how to help them. Here are some simple ways to help animals in your neighbourhood.
First, you can make a small “animal corner” in your neighbourhood. Put a bowl of clean water and some animal food there, and make sure it is always clean. Second, you can make a poster to tell people not to hurt homeless animals. The poster can include some useful phone numbers, so that people can call for help when they find a sick animal.
Third, you can volunteer at an animal hospital. You may help clean the rooms, walk the dogs, or play with the cats. You must be patient, and you mustn’t be afraid of getting dirty. Fourth, you can donate old towels and blankets. Animals may feel cold in winter, and a warm blanket can mean a lot to them.
You don’t have to do all of these things. Just choose one and start today. A small act of kindness can make a difference to a homeless animal’s life.
任务一:单项选择
1. What should be in the “animal corner”?
A. Clean water and some animal food. B. Some toys and books.
C. Some old clothes. D. A big box.
2. What can you donate to help homeless animals in winter?
A. Pens and paper. B. New shoes.
C. Old towels and blankets. D. Computer games.
任务二:判断正误(T/F)
3. The passage tells us to be patient when we volunteer at an animal hospital. ( )

任务四范文:Nowadays, more and more homeless animals are living on the streets. They have no home, no food and no warm place to stay, and many of them are ill or hurt. As students, we can do something to help them. First, we can donate some money and food to the local animal hospital. We can also give away our old towels and blankets, because they can keep the animals warm in winter. Second, we can volunteer at the animal hospital. We can clean the rooms, walk the dogs and play with the cats. It may take us only a few hours a week, but it means a lot to the animals. Third, we can make a poster to call on more people to join us. When more people take part in this activity, the animals will have a better life. I believe that every small act of kindness can make a difference. If we all lend a hand, the world will be a much warmer place for both people and animals.
