My name is Emma, and I have a pet dog named Max. Max is a golden retriever, and he is three years old. He has soft golden fur and big brown eyes. He is not just a pet—he is like a member of my family.
Max is very friendly and playful. Every morning, he wakes me up by licking my hand. After I get up, I take him for a walk in the park near my home. He loves running around and chasing butterflies. Sometimes he meets other dogs in the park, and they play together happily. Max is also very smart. He can do many tricks, like sitting, shaking hands and rolling over. I taught him these tricks when he was a puppy, and he learned them quickly.
Max is also very helpful. When I feel sad, he sits next to me and leans his head on my leg, as if he is trying to comfort me. Last year, I was sick and had to stay in bed for a week. Max stayed by my bed the whole time. He brought me my toys and even fetched a glass of water for me once (with my help, of course!).
However, having a pet is not always easy. We have to take good care of Max. Every day, we feed him twice a day and give him fresh water. We also take him to the vet for check-ups every six months. Sometimes he chews my shoes or makes a mess at home, but I still love him very much.

Do you have true friends? Do you want to know better between you and your friends? There are three different kinds of friends: “pest friends”, “guest friends” and “best friends”.
The first kind of friends is almost an acquaintance (熟人). All you usually know about them is their names. You may meet this kind of friends at school, at work, or on the bus, but you don’t miss them when they’re not around. When this kind of friends does something bad, you don’t tell them. That is why they are called “pest friends”.
The second kind of friends could also be called “social partners”. They are closer than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends. You know their names, a little of what they like or dislike, and a little of their family histories. You may have the same interest and often do something together in your free time, but you don’t talk about anything deep, such as your wishes or dreams, and they don’t open up to you how they really feel.
The last kind of friends, the “best friend” is the one you know the deepest. You’re like family members, and know everything about each other. You have no problem staying at each other’s houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will help you when you’re wrong. Sometimes they may not be perfect, but at least they will always care about you, and never do anything on purpose (故意地) to hurt you.
We all have our pest, guest and best friends. We should value all friendships and remember, all best friends start out as just acquaintances.
1.If you and John are neighbors and classmates, and do things together, but don’t share your feelings, you are “________”.
A.pest friends B.guest friends C.best friends D.true friends
2.The fourth paragraph mainly tells us ________.
A.how to make a best friend B.how to learn from your best friends
C.what a best friend is D.when a best friend can help you
3.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage?
①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2 ③=Paragraph 3 ④=Paragraph 4 ⑤=Paragraph 5
A.①/②③④⑤ B.①/②③④/⑤ C.①/②/③④⑤ D.①/②/③/④/⑤
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Pest friends are more important than guest friends.
B.We miss our best friends when we’re not with them.
C.A best friend hardly does anything bad to you.
D.A “pest friend” will never become your best friend.

How to improve your English Listening Skills? Do you find it hard to understand English conversations? Here are some practical tips to help you improve your listening skills.
First, listen to short English materials. You can try English songs, short podcasts or news clips. Don’t choose long materials at first—short ones are easier to follow. When you listen to songs, you can read the lyrics (歌词) at the same time. This helps you connect words with sounds.
Second, listen every day. You don’t need to spend hours listening. Even 10 to 15 minutes a day is enough. For example, you can listen while eating breakfast or walking to school. Regular practice is more useful than listening for a long time once a week.
Third, ask for help. If you don’t understand a part, you can listen again. You can also ask your English teacher or classmates to explain it to you. Some apps even have a “repeat” function to help you listen to difficult parts again.
Fourth, take notes. When you listen, write down key words like names, numbers or places. This helps you remember important information and review later.
1.What short materials can you listen to for English listening?
A.Long novels. B.English songs or short podcasts. C.TV plays. D.Magazines.

Before you read this article, let’s take a look at the Chinese sentence on the right picture. Did you notice that some of the characters in the sentence are in the wrong order? You might not realize it, but you can read and understand it well, right?
If you didn’t catch it right away, you’re not alone. This is known as “typoglycemia”, where people can still understand disordered words as long as the first and last letters (or characters) are in place.
When we’re first learning how to read, we read word by word. But after we become more experienced, we read in full phrases and even sentences. People can read five to six words at one time, Also, as experienced readers, we take the things we’re familiar with for granted (理所当然). We don’t pay as much attention to small details (细节).
When we read something we’re familiar with, we may think all the words are in the right order. This is like when meeting a person with long hair, we think the person is a girl without taking a closer look.
★ . For example, you might still understand “belive” as “believe” or “tihs” as “this” at a quick look. It is believed that humans remember the meanings of words mostly by their shape and layout (布局), rather than the order of the letters. However, we cannot read disordered sentences as quickly as we read normal texts.
In short, our brains are amazing, but they can be a little lazy when dealing with words!
1.Why does the writer mention the Chinese sentence at the beginning?
A.To test readers’ Chinese level. B.To explain language rules.
C.To build reader’s national pride. D.To raise readers’ interest in the topic.
2.What is “typoglycemia”?
A.The skill to read very fast. B.The illness that makes reading difficult.
C.The ability to read disordered sentences. D.The problem of forgetting words easily.
3.Which of the following can be put in ★ ?
A.This also works with English words B.This problem is hard to solve
C.We should check spellings carefully D.All languages have the same rule
4.According to paragraph 3, how can people remember words better?
A.By reading word by word. B.By making word cards.
C.By writing words again and again. D.By reading word groups.
5.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.How we can read quickly and correctly. B.Letter order is not important in reading.
C.Why we can still read disordered words. D.Experience makes reading more exciting.
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A 4.D 5.C
根据“This is known as ‘typoglycemia’, where people can still understand disordered words as long as the first and last letters (or characters) are in place.”可知,“typoglycemia”是指人们能够读懂顺序混乱单词的能力。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据空后例子“you might still understand ‘belive’ as ‘believe’ or ‘tihs’ as ‘this’”(英文单词的例子),结合前文讲中文句子的情况,可知此处应衔接“这种现象也适用于英文单词”。故选A。
4.细节理解题。根据第三段“When we’re first learning how to read, we read word by word. But after we become more experienced, we read in full phrases and even sentences. People can read five to six words at one time”可知,通过阅读词组(word groups)能更好地记忆单词。故选D。
5.主旨大意题。文章围绕“为什么顺序混乱的单词仍能被读懂”展开,结合“This is known as ‘typoglycemia’, where people can still understand disordered words...”及后文对大脑阅读习惯的解释,可知文章主要说明我们能读懂混乱单词的原因。故选C。

Max has brought so much happiness to my life. He is my best friend, and I know he will always be there for me. I am very lucky to have him.

C.what a best friend is D.when a best friend can help you
3.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage?
①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2 ③=Paragraph 3 ④=Paragraph 4 ⑤=Paragraph 5

① Lifelong learners never think of themselves as the greatest experts in anything. Instead, they believe that learning never stops and that there’s always something new to discover. Because they keep learning, they contribute a lot to the groups they’re part of, whether it’s at school, in clubs, or even with family and friends. They share fresh ideas and help others grow too. But what exactly makes them stand out?
