例题2
Already Perfect
Each one of us struggles with self-worth to some degree. I spent much of my time attempting to achieve perfection in every aspect of my life. What I didn’t realize was that in my efforts to be perfect, I almost lost my life.
During my childhood, I wanted everyone’s praise and acceptance. After I graduated from high school, my struggles with self-worth increased. I began to put pressure on myself to succeed in the adult world. Meanwhile, I wasn’t feeling very confident and successful. I started to believe that my difficulties and “failures” in life were caused by my weight. I had always been a thin-to-average sized person. Suddenly, I was convinced that I was overweight. In my mind, I was FAT!
Slowly, I began to control my food by trying to diet, but nothing seemed to work. I continued to reduce what I ate each day and told myself that I would succeed, and in turn, I felt good about myself.
People around me began to notice my weight loss. At first, they weren’t alarmed; maybe some were even envious. But then the comments showed some concern. “You’re losing too much weight.” “Elisa, you’re so thin.” “You look sick.” “You’ll die if you keep this up.” All their words only made me believe that I was on the right path, getting closer to “perfection.”
My poor nutrition(营养) began to cause me to lose sleep. I found it hard to concentrate on my work or to focus on anything for a long time. I was pushing myself harder and harder at the gym, struggling to burn fat. My parents tried to stop me but I disagreed that I had a problem. None of my clothes fit, and it was hard to buy any, since I had become too thin!
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest.

读后续写
Passage 1
David, a senior high school student, hated weekly PE class. Not because he didn’t like sports, but because even a short run would leave him breathless. At 16, he weighed over 100 kilograms. He tried dieting several times, only to quit within a week.
Ms. Clark, the school doctor, had long noticed David’s problems. At every health check, his condition worsened: high blood pressure, high blood lipids(高血脂) and knee pain. She advised him on healthy eating and exercise. “My knees hurt,” he would say. Or “I’m just too busy with my school work.” Sometimes he blamed the canteen food, other times, the exam stress. However, Ms. Clark noticed the other side of David. She’d often spot him buried in textbooks in the library. She’d also hear teachers praise him for being active in group projects — a contrast to his give-up attitude towards fitness.
One day, Ms. Clark read a story about a teacher who treated her slow history class as an honors class. Believing the students were “gifted”, she pushed them harder — and they all made great progress. Inspired, Ms. Clark decided to try something similar. She selected five overweight students, including David, and formed a special group. “From today on,” she announced, “you are my honors health class. We’ll work together and you are expected to lose at least 10 kilograms and improve your fitness by the end of this semester.” David let out a laugh, “I’ve failed so many times.” “That’s because you expected to fail,” Ms. Clark said firmly. “But honors students don’t quit.” She taught them how to keep a food diary and how to do simple exercise.
David lost 1.5 kilograms in the first week — more than he had lost in the past two years combined. However, three weeks into the program, disaster struck. It was mid-term exam week. David stayed up late every night, snacking on instant noodles and cookies. At the weekly weigh-in, he regained all the weight he’d lost — plus half a kilogram. He stood silently before the group, his face burning with shame.

Ms. Clark pulled David aside and said, “I’m still proud of you.”

Passage 2
Any day when I had to travel by air was the worst day of my life, but as a salesman, I had to fly quite a bit. On this particular day in 2024, I was assigned to a middle seat. Unfortunately, I was so fat that I couldn’t fit down the aisle facing forward, so I was forced to walk sideways like a crab. My weight varied between 340 and 360 pounds, depending on whether to take it before or after one of my enormous meals. When finally squeezing into my seat, I found the seat belt wasn’t long enough to fit around my 52-inch waist.
At that moment, I was stricken by an intense desire to lose weight. I began looking for signs which would guide me toward a better life, and instantly a sign showed up. At the switch of TV, I happened to see an interview with a former world athlete. He said that a doctor put him on a whole-food, plant-based diet and offered a good care of him. He lost weight without feeling hungry, and he was healthier and stronger than he’d been since his twenties. I never imagined my sign would come from him, but there he was.
I didn’t know what a “whole-food, plant-based diet” means. I went online and searched for a doctor who could help me. That’s how I found Robert, an experienced medical specialist. Hope fell on me when he promised to see me the next day. The doctor recommended a low calorie diet and some physical exercises to do in my home. He also made a suggestion that I should go to a shelter and adopt a dog. “Excuse me?” I couldn’t believe what he said. But, he added, “A dog is a good companion. While you live in an apartment, the dog has to be walked. Walking your dog twice a day will be your exercise. I’m sure it can improve not only your health but also the quality of your life.”

Passage 3
When I was in high school in the 1980s, Jane Fonda's workout tapes were so popular that even our gym teacher showed us workouts from her program. But in those days, I was far from a person enjoying the workout.
My lack of athleticism finally caught up with me after I put on a lot of weight. By the time I was forty-five, I was 252 pounds. Even at six feet tall, that was too much weight for my body. I also felt like life was passing me by, but I didn't know what was next for me or how to get out of the boredom. So when I had the opportunity to enter a contest to meet Jane Fonda through a SiriusXM Town Hall event, I crossed my fingers and entered the sweepstakes(抽奖活动) .
To my great surprise, I was one of the winners. I thought this was a sign that my luck was changing. I had always enjoyed Fonda's movies and was excited to have the chance to meet her. So I put on my best clothes, and brought my best friend Jenny along to meet the famous Jane Fonda.
Fonda was seventy-five then and looked great in person, wearing all black and looking decades younger. Not only that, but she was so kind and friendly. She really made me feel special as we discussed a film I had recently seen her in called Peace, Love & Misunderstanding. We posed for a photo together, and I even got the opportunity to ask her a question at the event.
One of the radio network's organizers promised to send me the photo of us, so I was excited when I received an email from Fonda the next day with the subject line saying that the photo was attached.

Passage 4
I am a writer for a health and fitness magazine that focuses on success stories about weight loss. For years I have written about other people and their journey to a healthy body, mind and spirit. But I’ve never written my own story.
I wasn’t always overweight. Until age five, I was a healthy, active kid. It wasn’t until my parents started having problems that resulted in a divorce that I turned to food. I struggled with my weight throughout my school years and I reached 260 pounds at college. Today, more than a decade later, people don’t believe that I ever weighed that much. Even I have to pull out the previous pictures to remember. At that time, I never looked at myself in the mirror. I never looked at others in the eye for fear of what they would say about me. I was shy. I was ashamed. I was depressed. I was scared. I even couldn’t find my self-worth. I had no idea what the future would look like.
Like most people I wrote about, I tried all the fad diets(时下流行的节食方法). And what I didn’t realize was that the worst thing I could do was to use food as a form of punishment. That struggling period lasted for a long time.
One night before graduating from college, I looked at my body and imagined myself at eighty-five years old. If I continued walking the path I was on, who would I be? What would I look like? I saw overweight and health problems. I saw loneliness and unsolved emotional pain. I didn’t like what I saw. Then, I turned to an old college professor for advice. She merely shrugged (耸肩) and said, “You just have to choose.” I was quite confused at that moment. What kind of advice was that? Choose what? How could I choose? Noticing my puzzled expression, the professor just handed me a health book.

Inspired by the book, I knew what I should choose.

Passage 5
“Oh my gosh, it looks so good on you,” my best friend shouted out. “That color suits you, and I’m getting it for you for your birthday. After all, it’s in two weeks!”
I had gone bathing suit shopping with my best friend. We wound up buying bathing suits, and the topic of going on a diet came up. The only reason for going on one would be to lose a little bit of our “baby fat”. I thought all the guys would like me if I was pretty and thin.
So I decided to stick to a diet, even though it would be hard because I am a chocoholic(巧克力狂). I had always been a big girl. Not necessarily fat, but tall with a strong build. I played many sports and reduced my dinner servings. I had a desire to eat ice cream, but whenever I looked at beauty magazines and my bathing suit, the desire disappeared quickly.
My mom noticed when I dropped five pounds. She told me to stop because I could harm myself. I promised her I’d stop, but I couldn’t. I started getting praised by my schoolmates. I wore the same clothes which kept getting baggier and baggier. My gym teacher questioned me about my noticeable weight loss. I explained to her that it was the result of exercise alone.
Since I lost weight by dropping lunch, I did the same with breakfast. I tricked (哄骗) my dad into thinking that I ate snacks, but whatever snacks I had, I fed them to the deer. When I looked at myself in the mirror every day, I saw excess fat(赘肉) that had to go. About a month and a half after I had bought the bathing suit, I tried it on again and it fell right off me.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Finally, dark circles formed under my eyes, and I stopped physically developing.

Passage 6
My parents would not let me go to school that morning. “Why not?” I argued. “I have exams. I have work in Spanish class that I can’t miss!” My mother gave me a sad look. “You have to get a checkup(身体检查),” she explained. I screamed, “NO!” My father pulled me over to the couch. “Alison,” my father said in a tone that was quiet but powerful. “You’re in the state of malnutrition(营养不良). And you know that. You can have all in the world, but if you don’t have your health, you have nothing.” For some reason, I believed him. I hadn’t wanted it to be this way.
I was a girl who didn’t like doing sports but was fond of snack food. I weighed 50kg at my age of 14. Most of the time, I avoided parties with my friends, afraid of how ugly they would think I looked. One day, I found a slim girl on TV was so attractive that I wanted to look like her. I forced myself to do exercise and started going on a diet for a good-looking body shape. During the summer, I did weekly weigh-ins (称重) and kept a strict diet. I memorized the calories of almost everything that I may eat. My only goal was to lose weight. Later, when it became too cold to run outside, I restricted my calories even more to make up for not being able to burn them.
Gradually I lost my weight a lot. But things turned out to be worse. My hands were especially dry, peeling and wrinkled. My sister called them old people’s hands. Once, I went shopping with my mom. While we waited in line to pay for our items, I felt I was going to faint (昏厥). I felt dizzy and standing was getting harder and harder.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As my mom tried to figure out which exit we should go through, she noticed my pale face.

Incidents (发生的事情) like the one in the store were in my thoughts as my parents had a talk with me that morning—the morning when I refused to see the doctor regularly.

Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua. I’m writing to express my opinions about whether teenagers should have plastic surgery.
I strongly hold the view that teenagers shouldn’t have plastic surgery. Firstly, a teenager should not care about his appearance too much, but concentrate on his lessons. In other words, a teenager should improve himself by working hard. Secondly, a teenager is still growing and such surgery is likely to harm his health. Some teenagers had plastic surgery, which stopped them from returning to a normal life. Therefore, they regret having the surgery.
In a word, a teenager should keep away from plastic surgery, read more books and lead a meaningful life.
Yours,
Li Hua

【参考范文】
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest. I tried to relax, but I couldn’t. The beating became so rapid and so strong that I could no longer breathe. Really scared and ill, I felt I was going to die. Knowing that help was needed, I stood up, went towards the door, and immediately fell down, letting out a cry of pain. Awakened by the unusual sound, my parents came in to see what had happened. Shocked and worried, they rushed me to the hospital. It took doctors and nurses several hours to bring me back to life.
When I lay on the hospital bed, I began to rethink what I did to my body. I decided to stop my foolish way of losing weight and pursuing perfection. Instead, I must be confident of myself and stay committed to being healthy. I now use my intelligence, talents and acts of kindness to express myself. This is true beauty, and it has nothing to do with the size of my body. With my experience of trying to be “perfect” on the outside, I had forgotten who I was on the inside. What I know now is that we are — each and every one of us — already perfect.

Dear Amy,
I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling upset about your weight recently. Please don’t be too hard on yourself; it’s something many of us struggle with.
First, I’d suggest focusing on a balanced diet rather than strict dieting. Try to incorporate more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals while cutting down on sugary snacks and fizzy drinks. Secondly, finding a form of exercise you genuinely enjoy is key to sticking with it. Regular physical activity will not only help you get in shape but also boost your mood.

My Path to Weight Loss
As an exchange student from Britain, I once struggled with extra weight. Determined to change, I started with small steps: swapping sugary drinks for water, adding 30-minute daily walks, and avoiding late-night snacks. At first, it was tough, but I never gave up.

读后续写

【参考范文】
Ms. Clark pulled David aside and said, “I’m still proud of you.” She patted his back gently, saying mid-term exams brought great stress to every student, and it was understandable to lose control of his diet. “Your first-week weight loss proved you have the strength to change,” she added. She helped David adjust his plan: replace late-night instant noodles with yogurt and fruit, and do 5-minute light stretches after each study session. Encouraged by her words, David lifted his head, his shame fading, and determined to stick to the plan this time.
The following week, David stood confidently with his group at the weigh-in. He stepped on the scale steadily, and a bright smile appeared on his face when he saw the number — he had lost 2 kilograms. The group cheered loudly for him. David turned to Ms. Clark, expressing his sincere gratitude. He finally realized that setbacks were normal, and persistence was the key to success. From then on, he balanced his study and fitness well, moving steadily towards his weight-loss goal.

With disbelief and hesitation, I drove up to a dog shelter near where I lived. The moment the dogs caught sight of a stranger, they burst out barking. It was difficult to choose one of them. At that moment, a large black-and-white dog yawning in the corner caught my attention. His round body reminded me of my size and what Robert said. He was perfect for me! Crouching down and stroking his furry head, I couldn’t help imagining the picture in which we both exercised our way to become slim and charming.
I came back home with the large black-and-white dog with a big round body. I named him David, who often lay motionless on the floor and yawned with eyes half-closed. I made up my mind to change both of us. Shortly afterward, I found a ball, dragged David to the nearby park and threw it at him. Driven by natural instinct, David leapt forward to catch the ball. Little by little, I could walk David twice a day. One month later, I suddenly realized that there was no need for me to walk like a crab on the plane. Surprisingly, David also became lean and healthy.

But my excitement turned to embarrassment when I got a look at the photo. In the photo, I was literally twice Fonda’s size even though I looked my very best that day. She was thirty years older than me, but she looked better than me. I was so overwhelmed by sadness that I shared my feelings with Jenny on the phone. But she comforted me, “Hey, it’s just a photo. Anybody would pale in comparison to a movie star. ” I knew I couldn’t be as beautiful as Fonda, of course, but the photo was the wake-up call I needed. I had to make a change.
Without hesitation, I made a resolution to lose weight and get in shape. I recalled Jane Fonda’s workout program, so I found her workout tapes and followed her exercises. Like her, I started my fitness journey with gentle walks around my neighborhood, building up my endurance and speed. As I got more confident, I worked my way up to walking five kilometers, running road races and even marathons. Eventually, my efforts paid off and led me to lose 85 pounds. Thanks to my photo with Jane Fonda, I was on the path to a healthier and fitter me.

I decided to make a change in my life. I started by setting small, achievable goals, such as walking 30 minutes a day and eating more vegetables. I also began to keep a journal to track my progress and reflect on my emotions. Gradually, I noticed that I was feeling more energetic and positive. I joined a support group where I met others who were on similar journeys. Sharing experiences and encouragement with them helped me stay motivated. Over time, I learned to view food as nourishment rather than a source of comfort or punishment. I realized that true health is not just about losing weight, but about finding balance and self-acceptance.
Although the process was challenging, my hard work paid off. I lost weight steadily and gained confidence in myself. I started to look at myself in the mirror and smile, something I hadn’t done in years. I began to engage more with people, no longer fearing their judgment. My relationships improved, and I felt a sense of purpose that I had never experienced before. Today, I am proud of the person I have become. I have not only transformed my body but also my mind and spirit. Now, as a writer, I am finally ready to share my own story, hoping to inspire others who are struggling with similar challenges

Finally, dark circles formed under my eyes, and I stopped physically developing. I felt tired all the time, and even everyday activities became difficult. My worried parents talked to me about how unhealthy I was becoming. That’s when I realized how serious my situation was. I had let the desire for a thinner body overshadow my well-being, and now I was paying the price. Regret and fear gripped my heart as I faced the consequences of my choices.
I started seeing the doctor and it took one year for my body to start working normally again. The road to recovery was long and arduous. My doctors and nutritionists worked tirelessly to help me regain my strength and health. Slowly but surely, the color returned to my cheeks, and the dark circles faded. I learned the hard way that true beauty comes from within, and that health should never be compromised for the sake of appearance. Now, I cherish my body and focus on maintaining a balanced lifestyle, grateful for the lesson that almost cost me everything.

As my mom tried to figure out which exit we should go through, she noticed my pale face. “Alison,” her voice sounded alarmed, but also far away. “You look like you’re going to pass out. Are you OK?” I couldn’t answer with more than a mumble. My mom was suddenly speeding things up, taking charge and locating the nearest exit. She told me to wait inside. She soon drove the car over and took me to the hospital. Later, I was told this was a symptom of malnutrition. I was told to visit the doctor twice a week.
Incidents(发生的事情) like the one in the store were in my thoughts as my parents had a talk with me that morning—the morning when I refused to see the doctor regularly. I finally decided to see the doctor instead of going to school. Dad was right—without health, nothing would I own, including that morning’s important exams or Spanish class. Before, I suffered a lot from my eating disorder and weakness. Now, I put my wants of a healthy body above the needs of a slim girl. Remembering the doctor’s advice, I add healthy foods to my meals and keep doing proper sports. I become both happy and strong.
