Changes Around Us
In the past few years, great changes have taken place around us.
In the past, people used to travel locally or rarely travel abroad. Now, they prefer to go abroad or travel online. It makes travel more diverse and convenient than before. Besides, students used to do more reading and group work. Now, they can study online and use digital tools, which helps them learn more efficiently. In terms of transportation, people walked or rode bikes in the past. Now, many families have cars and high-speed trains are very fast. It saves time and makes travel easier.
In my opinion, these changes have improved our lives a lot. We should cherish the convenient life and keep working hard to make our future better.

56
we get on a bicycle,we can ride away without thinking.
This is strange.57 many other cases, our memories let us down.We often find it hard to remember
a name or a date, don't we?So why can we still ride a bicycle even after we have 58
riding it for years?
It turns out that there are two types of long-term memories, and they are stored in different parts of our brains.
Memories of 59 and life events, like names, dates and trip experiences, are called declarative (
memories. These memories are 60 to lose.Memories of skills, such as riding a bicycle or
61
an instrument, are called procedural (memories. These memories are hard to pick up at first, but once
62 learnt, they are almost never forgotten.
Scientists have found the key reason for this63:the brain area that stores procedural memories has
more stable neural connections, and its cells do not easily get harmed or lost. This finding explains 64 we
hardly forget how to ride a bicycle.
Now,"just like riding a bicycle has become a common idiom.65 is used to talk about a skill that.

When Qian was 24 years old, he went to America for further study. After graduation (毕业), he worked there for a few years. In the early 1950s, he decided not to stay in America any longer. He succeeded in coming back to China in 1955.
In 1956, Qian Xuesen suggested setting up a special space organization. This organization later became the leading one for China’s rocket (火箭) and air travel programme. In June, 1964, China created its first medium rocket. Qian also played an important part in developing China’s first man-made satellite. On 24 April, 1970, China’s first man-made satellite, “Dongfanghong-I” was successfully launched (发射) into space.
In March, 1964, a young man named Hao Tianhu wrote a letter to Qian Xuesen and pointed out a mistake in his article. Are you having problems learning a second language? Now scientists suggest you exercise while learning. In recent years, many studies have shown that we can learn differently if we exercise at the same time. Among them, the study led by the Chinese researcher Liu Fengqin needs our attention, because it studied Chinese students learning English.
Forty Chinese students took part in the study. The scientists divided (分开) them into two groups. Those in Group 1 would learn English in traditional classes, but students in Group 2 needed to exercise while learning. They rode exercise bicycles for 2 minutes to warm up before the English classes, and continued to pedal (踩踏板) during the learning process. Both groups learnt 40 new words by watching the words on large screens in each class. Then the students rested a bit and had a test.
In the tests, the students in Group 2 always had higher marks. It meant that students can learn words better while riding bicycles than sitting quietly. The scientists also gave the forty students a final test a month after the classes. ▲ They remembered more words than the students who had not exercised.
Simone Sulpizio, one of the researchers, said, “The results showed that physical activity during language learning improved the learning. We are not requiring teachers to buy lots of exercise bicycles, but it’s clear that sitting for hours without moving is not the best way to learn. To study well, we should move our bodies.”
31.Why does Liu Fengqin’s research need our attention?
A.Because this research got many international prizes.
B.Because Liu is one of the best researchers in this area.
C.Because Liu has been teaching English for 20 years in China.
D.Because the research studied Chinese students learning English.
32.How did the students in Group 2 exercise in Liu’s study?
A.They ran on the playground before traditional classes.
B.They rode exercise bicycles right after having the tests.
C.They rode exercise bicycles both before and during the classes.
D.They ran on the playground both before and after the classes.
33.Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 3?
A.In this test, all the students rode the exercise bikes.
B.However, the cyclists didn’t get high marks as they did before.
C.What’s more, most cyclists said they felt much happier in learning than before.
D.Interestingly, the students in Group 2 seemed to have a longer memory for those words.
34.What does the underlined word “requiring” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Asking. B.Training. C.Allowing. D.Promising.
35.What’s the best title for the passage?

Most of us know that our brains become smaller in size as we get older, but did you know that diet and lifestyle have an effect on how well our brains work?
Research shows that eating lots of fruit, vegetables and proteins improves memory. 36 Eating oily fish or dark chocolate (with over 70% cocoa) and taking Vitamin D3 can also help make your memory stronger.
37 A study showed that regular exercise actually increases brain size. Another study found that exercise improved memory in some older people. Surprisingly, it found that one single training period had the same effect on memory as a regular, long exercise period!
One study found that eight weeks of short, daily meditation (冥想) improved memory. Other ways to relax can also improve our short-term memory. Try taking 5-10 minutes of your day to meditate or listen to music. 38
Experts say that age reduces our ability to learn, but sleep can help. 39 Another study found that students learned things better before and after a short sleep!
40 Try to memorize information like phone numbers and addresses rather than putting the information in your phone. You could also learn a language or do brain training like crosswords
A.Or even just take a shower!
B.The role of exercise is really important too.
C.To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.
D.Try to avoid sugary foods such as cakes and milk chocolate.
E.For your brain to work well, 7-9 hours of sleep is necessary.

Wastewater ran out of small factories into the river, 43 no one dared to swim in it. Last year, the local 44 closed the harmful factories and built a new waste treatment (治理) system.
Now the river is clear again, and the 45 here can even catch fish for fun at weekends. Many people travel to our village now. Grandma says the 46 change is not the clean river, but the new walking path. “Three 47 ago, we had to walk on muddy and narrow roads on rainy days,” she told me. “Now the path is 48 and flat (平坦的). Every morning, I 49 exercise on this path.”
Many young people have also moved back to the village to open homestays (民宿) for 50 . Although some of them left for big cities years ago, they say the village now 51 more chances than before. Grandma did not 52 her business — a small tea shop. Instead, she started an online shop to 53 her homemade tea to city customers.
Grandma’s village has 54 a lot from these changes. They show that when we 55 each other and work together, we can make our home more beautiful. I am looking forward to seeing what the village will be like in five more years.

fact it play until different in fully why under stop whenever easy
Many of us learn how to ride a bicycle at a young age. As we grow older, we may ride less. But 56 we get on a bicycle, we can ride away without thinking.
This is strange. 57 many other cases, our memories let us down. We often find it hard to remember a name or a date, don’t we? So why can we still ride a bicycle even after we have 58 riding it for years?
It turns out that there are two types of long-term memories, and they are stored in different parts of our brains. Memories of 59 and life events, like names, dates and trip experiences, are called declarative (陈述性的) memories. These memories are 60 to lose. Memories of skills, such as riding a bicycle or 61 an instrument, are called procedural (程序性的) memories. These memories are hard to pick up at first, but once 62 learnt, they are almost never forgotten.
Scientists have found the key reason for this 63 : the brain area that stores procedural memories has more stable neural connections, and its cells do not easily get harmed or lost. This finding explains 64 we hardly forget how to ride a bicycle.
Now, “just like riding a bicycle” has become a common idiom. 65 is used to talk about a skill that, once acquired, is never forgotten.

A friend once asked me, “It’s 2026. Do we still need to learn English? We have AI translators now.” It’s a good 66 . Technology makes understanding other languages easier. But learning English isn’t just for translation— it’s for connecting 67 others.
When you learn a language, you don’t just learn new words. You also learn 68 to think and feel people’s emotion. You can read their stories, sense feelings that often get lost in translation, and see the world differently.
English 69 you study, work, travel and make more friends. More importantly, it helps open your mind to new experiences and cultures.
Maybe we don’t learn English because we have to. We learn it because every word helps us understand the world 70 than before. AI can translate words, but only people can truly understand each other through languages.

根据第一段“Among them, the study led by the Chinese researcher Liu Fengqin needs our attention, because it studied Chinese students learning English.”
32.根据第二段“They rode exercise bicycles for 2 minutes to warm up before the English classes, and continued to pedal during the learning process.”
33.根据第三段“The scientists also gave the forty students a final test a month after the classes.”以及后文“They remembered more words than the students who had not exercised.”
34.根据第四段“We are not requiring teachers to buy lots of exercise bicycles...”

【答案】36.D 37.B 38.A 39.E 40.C
D选项“Try to avoid sugary foods such as cakes and milk chocolate.”
B选项“The role of exercise is really important too.”
E选项“For your brain to work well, 7‑9 hours of sleep is necessary.”
C选项“To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.”
My grandma lives in a small village in southern China. I 41 her with my parents every summer holiday. When I came here five years ago, the village was much 42 than it is today.

41.C 42.A 43.B 44.D 45.C 46.C 47.A 48.D 49.B 50.C 51.B 52.A 53.A 54.D 55.C
根据上文“My grandma lives in a small village”可知,奶奶住在小村庄,作者暑假去看望她。
根据下句“Wastewater ran out of small factories into the river”可知工厂废水排入河中,过去村庄环境很差。
根据“closed the harmful factories and built a new waste treatment system”,能够关停工厂、建设环境治理系统的是政府。
根据“is not the clean river, but the new walking path”,此处用来强调最重大的改变。
根据“more chances than before”,此处表达村庄可以给到更多机遇。
give up为固定短语,意为“放弃”;wake up“醒来”、get up“起床”、stand up“站起来”和business不搭配。
根据“an online shop”与“homemade tea to city customers”,网店的行为是售卖商品。
根据“and work together”,and连接并列正向含义,和共同努力呼应。
fact it play until different in fully why under stop whenever easy
56.whenever 57.In 58.stopped 59.facts 60.easy 61.playing 62.fully 63.difference 64.why 65.It
结合“we get on a bicycle, we can ride away without thinking”可知,表示“每当”骑上自行车,whenever意为“每当”,符合语境。

设空处与“riding a bicycle”并列作such as的宾语,需填动名词。
结合前文“why can we still ride a bicycle”和后文“we hardly forget how to ride a bicycle”可知,是解释“为什么”我们不会忘记,why意为“为什么”,符合语境。
结合前文“‘just like riding a bicycle’ has become a common idiom”可知,此处指代这个习语,用it,位于句首首字母大写,故填It。
66.question 67.with 68.how 69.helps 70.better
根据前文朋友提出的疑问“Do we still need to learn English?”
connect with sb.

A.Doing Sports Improves People’s Memory.
B.Exercise Improves Language Learning Results.
C.Language Helps Study Ways of Exercise.
D.Riding Bikes Becomes the Best Way of Exercise.
D

My grandma lives in a small village in southern China. I 41 her with my parents every summer holiday. When I came here five years ago, the village was much 42 than it is today.
