Unit 5 The weather and us Part B Let’s talk 第四课 (教学设计） I. Teaching Objectives 1. Students can listen, point and say the key words and phrases: raining, closed, basketball, library, film, and the weather phrases cold and rainy, warm and sunny. 2. Students can understand and read aloud the phone-style talk, and answer "What can they do?" by finding the right line. 3. Students can use "It's ... . We can't ... . But we can ... ." and "Let's ... . That's a good idea!" to choose activities for different weather, and talk with a partner. II. Key Points and Difficult Points Key Points 1. The key sentences: We can't play basketball in the park. / We can go to the library. / Let's go and see a film. / That's a good idea! 2. The weather phrases in Choose and say: warm and sunny, warm and windy, cold and rainy, cold and windy, hot and sunny. Difficult Points 1. "closed" is a new word; students need to hear it first and then read it, not read it as "open". 2. The pair can't ... but we can ... needs the full sentence, not single words; can and can't must not be mixed up. III. Teaching Tools Weather picture cards, an activity picture set (basketball, library, film, football, cards), a toy phone as a prop, flashcards of the talk sentences, and the courseware. IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Warm-up and lead-in (5 mins) Play the sound of rain and ask: What's the weather like now? Take a few quick answers and give no correction at this stage. Show a picture of kids under a rainy window and ask: Can they play outside? Lead to today's question: What do we do in different weather? [Purpose] Pull the weather words from the last lesson into a real problem. The rain sound makes the back rows look up before the text even starts. Step 2 First listening - who wants what (8 mins) Play the talk once. Students point at the picture and answer: What can't they do? (play basketball) What do they say then? Check by pointing at the line in the book, not by translating. Read "But it's closed now." three times in low, middle and loud voices so the new word "closed" is heard clearly. [Purpose] One clear question keeps the listening purposeful. Reading the hard word in three voices fixes the sound before they try to say it. Step 3 Read aloud and act (8 mins) Students read the talk in two voices, then in pairs act it out with the toy phone: John, it's raining now. / Oh no! We can't play basketball in the park. / It's OK. We can go to the library. / But it's closed now. / Hmm. Let's go and see a film. / That's a good idea! Praise one correct full sentence rather than a vague good job. [Purpose] The phone gives shy kids a safe prop. Acting the six lines turns meaning into a habit. Step 4 Choose and say (8 mins) Put the weather cards and the activity cards on the board. Model: It's cold and rainy. We can't play football. But we can make cards at home. Students pick one weather card and one activity card, then say the pair to their desk-mate, clapping once on can't and twice on can. [Purpose] Clapping once on can't and twice on can lets them feel the change instead of just copying the pattern. Step 5 Group show (6 mins) Groups of four make a short "rainy day plan": each child says one sentence about the weather and one activity. Two groups show on the stage. Score one point for every correct full sentence. [Purpose] The small plan pushes every child to speak a whole sentence, not one word. Step 6 Homework (3 mins) 1. Read the talk to your family once. 2. Look at tomorrow's weather and write one sentence: It's ____. We can ____. Bring it to class. V. Board Design Centre: What do we do in different weather? Left: raining / closed — We can't play basketball in the park. Right: It's cold and rainy. We can't ... but we can ... Bottom: Let's go and see a film. That's a good idea! 六、教学反思 玩具话筒和下雨声把平时最闷的几排孩子带进了对话，拍手数 can't 和 can 的环节气氛最好，多数孩子能把整句说完整。 不足之处：closed 这个新词仍有不少人读成 open，下次应在第一遍听音后用闭眼/睁眼的动作单独强化；can't 和 can 在快答里还会混，打算下节课固定成"摇头配 can't、点头配 can"的小动作。小组计划展示收得略急，改天贴到后墙让孩子接着说。 学科网（北京）股份有限公司 $
