This change is just as big for parents. This is why we also offer the parent session and provide you with some tools to support your child and family through this transition.
A group of high school starters will explore topics with a psychologist (心理学家), and parents will separately explore topics with another psychologist in another room. “Please help me get through this!” I watched the big LED screen. There were five minutes left. I felt great pain in my back, which had been kneed by a player from the other team. I rolled from side to side, tears streaming down. It was a blow to my pride for I was always the man of the match, the best player on the field, popularly known as the “Untouchable”.
Soon doctors came. “Jared, can you hear…” Those were the last words I heard before I lost consciousness (知觉).
I opened my eyes slowly as silence filled the air. I tried my best to sit up but the weight of my body was like gravity and it pulled me down. I became aware that I had lost sense in my legs. I moved my fingers to feel them. They were still there! Could I be…? I shook my head.
“I’m your doctor, Wilson Ty. You are a strong man, Jared. How are you feeling?”
Feeling? I could not feel anything.
“My legs…” I said, then paused. Dr Wilson Ty began to talk about my condition. But only two words
jumped out at me—paralysed (瘫痪的) forever. As I was trying to make sense of what he meant, my coach and a few of my teammates came in.
“Coach…help me!” The words came out of my mouth.
“It’s OK, Jared. Don’t lose heart.” My coach was trying to avoid saying more as he turned away, hiding the tears.
“Coach, I want to play soccer again, no matter what happens. I need you to help me,” I said as I held his arm tightly.
I struggled bravely in the next few months to be on my feet again. The hard knock had left me with a spinal cord injury The “Untouchable” had become the “Vulnerable (脆弱的)”.
After almost a year in hospital, I finally felt my feet firmly on the ground as I made my way to the field. This would be my first game after fate (命运) almost turned my life upside down. Without doubt, it was the game that I won, I thought.
As I walked towards the field, the whole stadium was filled with “Hero! Hero!” together with “Welcome back, Untouchable Jared!” on the LED screen. They were shouting louder than they had ever done. My teammates handed the ball to me. The indescribable feeling came to me and this time, there were tears of joy.
29.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A.The air. B.Silence. C.The body weight. D.Gravity.
30.Why did Jared feel it was a blow to his pride after he got hurt?
A.He worried his teammates would laugh at his mistake.
B.He was famous as the best player called “Untouchable”.
C.He thought the other player hurt him on purpose.
D.He knew he could never play football again
31.When Jared thought “Without doubt, it was the game that I won”, he probably felt ________.
A.free B.proud C.curious D.nervous
32.What is the best title for this story?
A.The LED Screen B.A Lucky Boy
C.An Unforgettable Game D.The Untouchable

Do you know what to do if your friends are under stress and come to you for help? Here are some ways you can be there for your friend who’s having a hard time.
Go outside with your friends.
Nature helps reduce stress: 37 Either way, being outside is one of the best things you can do to help your friends reduce stress.
Help out at their home.
Doing housework like cooking or cleaning can make people more upset when they are going through a stressful time. 38 Besides, you can offer to help them clean the room after eating.
39
Think about what your friends really need. Don’t ask them to go for a trip if they need to get more sleep. Don’t encourage them to cut school even if you know that will help reduce their stress—for the moment. It might be easy to be the friend who always supports everything. But more than support, they need someone to help them become better. A good friend never lets them keep making things worse.
Make them laugh.
You’ve heard “laughter is the best medicine”, haven’t you? It’s certainly correct. 40 Tell them a funny story, or send them funny pictures that you’ve shared together. They’ll be laughing so hard and forgetting what they were stressed about in the first place.
Be a good listener.
Sometimes your friends just need someone to share their worries with. A good laugh can cheer your friends up and ease their minds. A good ear can be more helpful than any advice.
A.Listen to them.
B.Be a wise adviser.
C.Take a walk outside, or go for a bike ride.
D.You may know what your friends’ hobbies are.
E.So why not surprise your friends by bringing over dinner one night?
F.Generally speaking, laughter can help reduce stress and increase happiness.

In recent years, plastic pollution has become one of the most serious environmental problems around the world. Many countries have been looking for effective ways for a better future. In November, 2022, China started a “bamboo instead of plastic” initiative (倡议) with the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (国际竹藤组织), which will hopefully increase the use of green bamboo products and reduce plastic pollution.
Bamboo is a renewable natural resource of great value, such as cleaning air and preventing soil loss. Unlike trees which usually need such a long time to fully grow, we can harvest bamboo in 3 to 5 years. As long as we protect it well, we can cut it every year and don’t have to replant it. We can use bamboo to make different kinds of products. These products can take the place of (代替) plastic products in many fields such as packaging and building. What’s more, bamboo is a harmless material. It doesn’t cause any pollution when we have to throw it away. China is one of the countries with the richest bamboo resources in the world. The Chinese are a pioneer in the use of bamboo. Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guizhou provinces in the country have set up companies to develop and produce bamboo products. They cover the areas of tableware, furniture (家具), decoration, daily necessities, etc. Many of them have been sold to different countries. China is also sharing its technologies and experience to help other countries with rich bamboo resources. It is hoped that countries will work together for global green development.
41.When did China start the “bamboo instead of plastic” activity?
42.Why did China start the “bamboo instead of plastic” activity?
43.What does China share to help other countries with rich bamboo resources?
44.What’s your opinion about using plastic products? Please write down your answer and list one or two reasons.

C
But only two words jumped out at me—paralysed (瘫痪的) forever.
A.The LED Screen B.A Lucky Boy C.An Unforgettable Game D.The Untouchable
根据文章第3段“I tried my best to sit up but the weight of my body was like gravity and it pulled me down.”
30.根据文章第1段“It was a blow to my pride for I was always the man of the match, the best player on the field, popularly known as the ‘Untouchable’.”
31.根据文章倒数第2段“After almost a year in hospital, I finally felt my feet firmly on the ground as I made my way to the field. This would be my first game after fate almost turned my life upside down. Without doubt, it was the game that I won, I thought.”
