Unit 3 Places we live in
Part B Let’s talk 第四课 (教学设计)
I. Teaching Objectives
1. Students can say the new words: library, books, gym, taijiquan club, sports.
2. Students can use "There is a ..." for one place and "There are ..." for many things.
3. Students can talk about their own community in short sentences with a partner.
II. Key Points and Difficult Points
Key points: the new words (library, gym, sports, taijiquan club) and the two sentences "There is a library." / "There are many books."
Difficult points: telling "There is" (one) from "There are" (many), and the plural -s on books and pencils.
III. Teaching Tools
Word cards, photos of a community (library / gym / playground), the textbook audio, and a simple mind map on the board.
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warm-up and lead-in (5 mins)
Show a photo of a library. Ask what students can see in it. Take a handful of quick answers and give no correction at this stage.
[Purpose] A real picture pulls the class into the topic and wakes up the old words.
Step 2: Listen and find (8 mins)
Play the dialogue twice. Students point to the library, the taijiquan club and the gym on the book picture when they hear them. Check by pointing, not by translating.
[Purpose] Train the ear to pick the three places out of the tape.
Step 3: Read aloud (7 mins)
Read the dialogue three times: once slowly, once normal, once in a loud "so many books!" voice. Clap once on is and once on are so they hear the change.
[Purpose] Build fluency and let the mouth feel the difference between is and are.
Step 4: Practise is vs. are (8 mins)
Put word cards on the board. Students sort them: one thing goes with "There is", many things go with "There are". Drill "There are many books." Praise one correct full sentence rather than a vague good job.
[Purpose] Fix the hard point — one thing uses is, many things use are.
Step 5: Look and say (7 mins)
Students read the Look and say picture and tell a partner: "There is a playground." / "There are books, pencils and clothes." A few write one more sentence about their own community.
[Purpose] Move from the book to the places students really live near.
Step 6: Homework (2 mins)
Read the dialogue to your family. Write two sentences about your community: one with "There is", one with "There are".
[Purpose] Keep the two sentences alive after class.
V. Board Design
Middle: What do people do in a community?
Left (one): library / gym / taijiquan club → There is a ...
Right (many): books / pencils / clothes / people → There are many ...
教学反思
本课用一张真实图书馆照片和拍手读 is / are 把后排孩子带活了,听音指图的正确率也还行,太极俱乐部、健身房这些新词他们觉得新鲜,开口意愿高。
但 There are 后面的复数 -s 仍有孩子吞掉,books 念成 book;下次要把"一个拍手 is、多个拍手 are 再把 -s 拖长"做成固定手势。Look and say 写句收得偏急,改成贴到后墙、让学生走过去补一句,给慢一点的孩子留出开口的时间。
