Unit 3 Places we live in
Part A Let’s learn 第二课 (教学设计)
I. Teaching Objectives
1. Students can say the six place words: hospital, playground, park, shop, toilets, bus stop.
2. Students can use "There is a ..." to talk about the places in a community.
3. Students can stick and draw a small community map and say one or two sentences about it.
II. Key Points and Difficult Points
Key points: the six place words and the sentence "There is a ...".
Difficult points: the plural form "toilets", and when to add "also" before a second place.
III. Teaching Tools
Place word cards, one big community map picture, small place stickers, tape.
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warm-up and lead-in (4 mins)
Show a picture of a busy street. Ask "What can you see?" Take a handful of quick answers and give no correction at this stage. Then say: Today we look at the places near our school.
[Purpose] Wake up the place words the children already know and bring them into the topic.
Step 2: Presentation (8 mins)
Put the map on the board. Point and say each new word: hospital, playground, park, shop, toilets, bus stop. Clap the long ones (play-ground, bus stop) so the beat helps them remember. Read each word once slowly, once normal, once loud.
Then read the dialogue: "We're at the park. Look! There is a shop." / "Great! Let's go and see."
[Purpose] Let the students hear and repeat the new words with a clear rhythm, so the sound sticks.
Step 3: Practice (8 mins)
Pointing game: I say a word, the class points to it on the map. Then in pairs one asks "Where is the shop?" and the other points. Read the two model sentences "There is a hospital." / "There is also a playground." first with the whole class, then by rows.
[Purpose] Move from just naming a word to using it inside a short sentence.
Step 4: Choose, stick and say (8 mins)
Give each pair some place stickers and a blank map. Students choose, stick and say "There is a ...", and add "also" for the second place. I walk around and praise one good full sentence rather than a vague good job.
[Purpose] This is the activity in the book. Sticking gives the shy children something to do with their hands while they find the courage to speak.
Step 5: Consolidation (5 mins)
Two or three pairs come to the front, show their map and say two sentences. The class votes for the place they like best.
[Purpose] Give the children a real reason to speak and a small show to close the lesson on.
Step 6: Homework
Read the six words and the dialogue to your family. Draw three places near your home and write "There is a ..." next to one of them.
[Purpose] A short home task that matches exactly what we did in class.
V. Board Design
Middle: Unit 3 Places we live in — There is a ...
Left: six word cards (hospital, playground, park, shop, toilets, bus stop).
Bottom: There is a hospital. / There is also a playground.
