A Stage Made of Cardboard Xu Jia was thirteen when her class was asked to give a show for the School Art Festival. Her teacher wanted something traditional, but the class had no money to buy anything. So Xu Jia went home and looked at a pile of old boxes. Her father works in a small factory, and her mother sells vegetables in the market. There was no money for a real puppet, but there were always boxes. She cut the cardboard, painted two faces on it and joined the parts with string. When she moved her fingers, the puppet moved. Her classmates laughed at first. They said a paper puppet was old-fashioned and cheap. Xu Jia did not stop. She made eight more puppets and wrote a short story about a girl who saves a village from a drought. On the night of the festival the hall was quiet for the first time. When the show ended, the students stood up and clapped for a long time. Today Xu Jia is in Grade Nine. She and six other students run a small club which meets every Thursday. They make puppets out of boxes which other people throw away, and they teach children in Grade Seven how to move them. We do not have much, she says. But if you have an idea and two hands, you already have a show. 31. Why did Xu Jia make puppets out of cardboard? A. Because her teacher asked her to do so. B. Because her class had no money to buy anything. C. Because she liked collecting old boxes. D. Because the shop near her home was closed. 32. How did her classmates feel about the paper puppet at first? A. They were afraid of it. B. They wanted to buy it. C. They laughed at it. D. They helped her make it. 33. What was Xu Jia's show about? A. A boy who travels to the moon. B. An old artist in a big city. C. A factory worker and his family. D. A girl who saves a village from a drought. 34. What does Xu Jia's club do now? A. It makes puppets from boxes and teaches younger children. B. It sells puppets to shops in the town. C. It puts on shows on television. D. It collects money for the school library. 35. What can we learn from Xu Jia's words? A. Only rich students can give a show. B. Creativity matters more than money. C. Old boxes are of no use at all. D. Children should never make puppets. Young Hands, Old Arts Not long ago a survey asked 2,000 middle school students in China three questions about traditional art. The answers surprised a lot of teachers. The first question was: do you like any traditional art? More than seventy per cent said yes. The arts which they named most often were paper-cutting, puppetry, Peking opera and dragon dancing. The second question was: why do you like it? The most common answer was not 'because it is beautiful'. It was 'because I can make something with my own hands'. Creativity, it seems, is what young people value most. The third question was: what stops you from learning it? Almost half of the students said they had no time. Others said they could not find a teacher, or that their parents thought it was a waste of time. Schools are now trying to change this. Some have invited old artists to give lessons once a week. Others have set up clubs in which students teach each other. In one school in Shandong, a puppetry club which started with nine members now has more than sixty. Educators say the change is important. If young people do not touch these arts with their own hands, the arts will only live in museums. A tradition which nobody practises is a tradition which is already half gone. 36. How many students answered the survey? A. 200. B. 20,000. C. 2,000. D. 70. 37. What did more than seventy per cent of the students say? A. They have no time for any art. B. They want to become artists. C. They never watch a show. D. They like some traditional art. 38. Why do most students like traditional art? A. Because they can make something with their own hands. B. Because it is easy to learn. C. Because their parents like it. D. Because it is on TV every day. 39. What stops almost half of the students from learning a traditional art? A. They have no money. B. They have no time. C. The arts are too difficult to understand. D. The teachers are too strict with them. 40. Why does the writer mention the club in Shandong? A. To sell puppets to the readers. B. To say that Shandong is the best place for art. C. To show that a small club can grow when students join in. D. To ask readers to visit that school. What Does It Mean to Be a Teenager Today? Some adults say that teenagers today care only about phones and games. Is that fair? It is true that many young people spend hours online. But the same young people are also the ones who start clubs, plant trees, teach younger children and make short videos about old arts. A phone can be a toy, but it can also be a tool. Liang Qichao wrote more than a hundred years ago: if we are intelligent, China will be intelligent; if we are wealthy, China will be wealthy; if we are strong, China will be strong. He was writing about young people, and he believed that the duty of the times falls on the youth. Being a teenager today does not mean waiting until you are grown-up to do something useful. It means asking what you can do now. A student who teaches paper-cutting to a child is doing something useful. So is a student who makes a video which makes one thousand people care about an old art. Of course, young people still need help. Schools should give them time and room, and adults should listen instead of laughing. But the first step must come from the young themselves. As the most dynamic and creative group in society, they should stand at the forefront of innovation and creation. 41. What do some adults say about teenagers today? A. They care only about phones and games. B. They work much too hard. C. They never go online. D. They dislike their school. 42. What does the writer think of a phone? A. It is always useless for students. B. It should be banned in every school. C. It is only good for playing games. D. It can be a toy, but it can also be a tool. 43. What did Liang Qichao believe? A. Only adults can save the country. B. The duty of the times falls on the youth. C. Young people should wait quietly. D. Money is more important than anything else. 44. Which is an example the writer gives of doing something useful now? A. Playing games for hours every day. B. Waiting until one grows up. C. Teaching paper-cutting to a child. D. Buying a new mobile phone. 45. What is the best title for the passage? A. What Does It Mean to Be a Teenager Today? B. How to Use a Mobile Phone C. The Long History of Puppetry D. Middle Schools in China 三、短文还原(共5空;每空2分,满分10分) 阅读短文,从短文下面的六个句子中选择五个还原到短文中,使短文通顺完整、衔接自然。 When I was in Grade Seven, my school started a traditional art club. 46. __________ I thought it was for old people, and I never went near the room. It was started three years ago by seven Grade Eight students, and today it has more than eighty members. Every Saturday morning the members walk to the village near the school. They teach children there to cut red paper, to make simple puppets out of old boxes, and to sing folk songs which old people in the village still remember. The group also collects old stories. Last year its members wrote down sixty-two stories from people over seventy years old, and turned twelve of them into short puppet shows. Nobody pays the members, and nobody forces them to come. I come because the children wait for me, said a Grade Nine girl. If I do not come, nobody will tell them these stories. The school gives the group a small room and two old tables. The head teacher says the group has changed the school more than any lesson: students who once thought traditional art was old-fashioned now spend their weekends keeping it alive. 71. When was Youth Hands started? 72. Where do the members go every Saturday morning? 73. What did the members do with the old stories last year? 74. Why does the Grade Nine girl keep coming? 75. Last spring he found that the old people in his village still remembered more than thirty folk songs, but nobody was writing them down. So every weekend he took a small notebook to the village and recorded the songs. He also taught ten children in Grade Seven to cut red paper, because he believes an art dies when nobody touches it. His work has changed our school. More than forty students have joined his club, and two of his puppet shows were performed at the School Art Festival. If young people keep their hands on these arts, the arts will not become old-fashioned. I think this is what being a teenager today means: the duty of the times falls on us youth, and we should start doing something useful now, not years later. (134 words) 听力原文 (一)录音中有五个句子,每个句子听两遍。 1. 71.
