As a painter, embroiderer, and mixed-media artist, she has spent the past decade experimenting with the unique medium of beeswax (蜂蜡). In her collections, Roth makes use of the help of a local bee community to create beautiful works that perfectly represent the harmonious relationship of human beings and nature. In the process of her art creation, Roth’s part of the work comes in the form of collages (拼贴画) hung in embroidery rings. With her skillful embroidery techniques, she creates designs with thread and pearls while including found materials, such as wood, herb, and horsehair as optional materials. After she arranges these elements to her preference, the bees come in to add their natural decorations. Roth then attaches the ring to traditional beekeeping frames and places it in a beehive (蜂窝). Over time, thousands of bees fill the frame with honeycomb, thus transforming the piece into its final, appealing form. The artistic idea of combination between the bee community and Roth appears as the honeycomb created by the hive naturally lies in her creativity, resulting in a unique and original work of art. Her direct cooperation with bees is just one aspect of her work. Roth also integrates beeswax honeycomb in other collections, including encaustic-sewn (蜡染缝制的) paintings, embroideries, and works on paper. In her work, Roth associates the theme of the human relationship with the natural world, reflecting on how people shape nature to meet their needs. With the role bees play in pollinating (授粉) many of the world’s crops, the species is important to food production. Despite their essential duty, bee populations have been facing a growing decline worldwide caused by factors such as climate change, habitat destruction, and pesticides. Roth raises awareness of this extraordinary species’ depopulation through her unique practice, showcasing their exceptional architectural abilities and essential role in maintaining human life. 4. What makes Roth different from other artists? A. She teams up with bees to make art. B. She usually creates bee-themed artworks. C. She combines painting with embroidery. D. She focuses on human-nature relationships. 5. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. How Roth creatively presents nature in her artworks. B. Why Roth chooses local bees as her artistic partners. C. How Roth and her nature friends cooperate to create art. D. Why Roth prefers natural materials in creations. 6. What does Roth aim to convey through her work? A. The significance of protecting bees for ecosystems. B. The great influence of nature on artistic inspiration. C. The key role of technology in linking nature and art. D. The need to value the traditional skills of beekeeping. 7. Which of the following can be the best title? A. Human and bees: Does co-existence exist? B. Nature in danger: How does art do its favor? C. Bees in art: She is creating a new “fashion” D. Art and nature: A magical method to design embroidery 【答案】4. A 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段中的“Toronto-based artist Ava Roth is unlike other cooperative artists: instead of working with people, she works with bees.(多伦多艺术家艾娃·罗斯与其他合作型艺术家不同:她不与人合作,而是与蜜蜂合作创作艺术。)” 第二段首句“In the process of her art creation, Roth’s part of the work comes in the form of collages (拼贴画) hung in embroidery rings.(在艺术创作过程中,罗斯负责的部分以绷在绣圈里的拼贴画形式展开。)” 根据第四段中的“Roth raises awareness of this extraordinary species’ depopulation through her unique practice, showcasing their exceptional architectural abilities and essential role in maintaining human life.(罗斯通过她独特的创作方式提高人们对这一非凡物种数量减少问题的关注,展现了蜜蜂卓越的筑巢能力,以及它们在维持人类生存方面的重要作用。)” 第一段中的“Toronto-based artist Ava Roth is unlike other cooperative artists: instead of working with people, she works with bees.(多伦多艺术家艾娃·罗斯与其他合作型艺术家不同:她不与人合作,而是与蜜蜂合作创作艺术。)” C Established earthquake warning systems provide at best just a minute or two of notice, leaving little time for preparedness. Decades of searching for a better warning sign — changes in the groundwater, electromagnetic (电磁的) effects in the upper atmosphere, and even changes in animal behavior — have failed. Many question whether such a signal even exists. This situation may change soon, as recent research is providing hope for improved earthquake prediction. Researchers Quentin Blettery and Jean-Mathieu Nocquet from Cote d’Azur University in France collected data from over 90 earthquakes with magnitudes (强度) larger than 7 that have occurred in the past two decades. They focused on GPS station records near these quakes, which accurately captured land movement every 5 minutes to make the results exact within millimeter. They analyzed more than 3,000 time series of movement in the 48 hours leading up to the main ruptures (断裂). With all the collected data, they noticed that, in the first 46 hours, the records showed no significant features. However, during the two hours immediately before the earthquakes, they noticed signs of increasing movement along the fault zones (断裂带). Specifically speaking, there’s a slip between plates causing the land above them to move in a measurable, horizontal direction. Could it just happen to be this way? The probability of this increase happening just before the quake and being unrelated is extremely low, and the researchers confirmed this by analyzing 100,000 random time windows in non-earthquake GPS data. The pattern occurred only 0.03% of the time in non-earthquake data. While this precursor (先兆) signal won’t be used for warnings anytime soon, officials from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) admit that this new study provides valuable insights into how to improve their warning systems — GPS data can grease the wheels of early earthquake warnings. The researchers admit they’re still a number of steps away from putting this precursor signal into use, particularly since detecting subtle signals at individual faults requires more GPS stations, with GPS sensors that are 100 times more precise than those in use today. But the biggest problem is that many of the world’s earthquake regions have no measuring equipment. “We can’t realize the detection at the scale of one earthquake, so we cannot make predictions.” Blettery said. 8. What remained a tough nut to scientists? A. Controlling the exact intensity of earthquakes. B. Finding a way to detect earthquakes in early stages. C. Measuring atmospheric changes during earthquakes. D. Identifying animals’ possible responses to earthquake. 9. What do the researchers find through their data analysis? A. The chance of main ruptures occurring in fault zones. B. The accuracy of GPS in recording land movement. C. The existence of a two-hour precursory phase. D. The horizontal slip within the first 46 hours. 10. What does the underlined part “grease the wheels of” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Distinguish. B. Illustrate. C. Identify. D. Facilitate. 11. What holds back the practical application of the new findings? A. The inaccessibility of precursor slip signals. B. The complexity of updating GPS equipment. C. The challenge of identifying earthquake regions. D. The inconsistent slip patterns of different earthquakes. B 9. C 10. D 11. 根据文章第一段“Decades of searching for a better warning sign — changes in the groundwater, electromagnetic (电磁的) effects in the upper atmosphere, and even changes in animal behavior — have failed. Many question whether such a signal even exists.(几十年来一直在寻找更好的预警信号——地下水的变化、高层大气中的电磁效应,甚至动物行为的变化——都失败了。许多人质疑这样的信号是否存在。)”可知,科学家数十年来一直试图寻找更有效的地震预警信号(即早期检测地震的方法),但均以失败告终,甚至有人质疑这类信号是否存在。这表明找到早期检测地震的方法对科学家而言仍是难题。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“They noticed that, in the first 46 hours, the records showed no significant features. However, during the two hours immediately before the earthquakes, they noticed signs of increasing movement along the fault zones (断裂带).(他们注意到,在最初的46个小时里,记录没有显示出明显的特征。然而,在地震发生前的两个小时里,他们注意到沿断裂带移动增加的迹象。)”可知,研究人员发现地震发生前46小时无明显特征,但在震前两小时,断层带会出现移动加剧的迹象,即存在两小时的地震先兆阶段。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线单词所在语境“While this precursor (先兆) signal won’t be used for warnings anytime soon, officials from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) admit that this new study provides valuable insights into how to improve their warning systems — GPS data can grease the wheels of early earthquake warnings.(虽然这种前兆信号短期内不会用于预警,但美国地质调查局的官员承认,这项新研究为如何改进他们的预警系统提供了有价值的见解——GPS数据可以……早期地震预警。)”可知,前文提到新研究为改进地震预警系统提供了宝贵思路,破折号后进一步说明GPS数据对地震早期预警的作用,结合“改进预警系统”的语境可推断,该短语应表示“促进、推动”之意。选项D“Facilitate”意为“使便利、促进”,与此相符。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“The researchers admit they’re still a number of steps away from putting this precursor signal into use, particularly since detecting subtle signals at individual faults requires more GPS stations, with GPS sensors that are 100 times more precise than those in use today. But the biggest problem is that many of the world’s earthquake regions have no measuring equipment.(研究人员承认,距离将这一前兆信号投入实际应用还有若干步骤,尤其是因为在单个断层探测微弱信号需要更多的GPS站点,且GPS传感器要比现今使用的精确100倍。但最大的问题是,世界上许多地震区域根本没有测量设备。)”可知,新发现实际应用的阻碍在于:检测断层微小滑动信号需要更多、更精准的GPS设备,而全球多数地震区域缺乏此类仪器,导致先兆滑动信号难以获取。 D Who doesn’t stand in awe of the advances that science and its STEM siblings (technology, engineering, and math) have created to better our world? But since the time of Aristotle, it has also been recognized that the hard sciences and the humanities must walk side by side in determining human action. The ancient Greek philosopher praised “practical wisdom” as the “middle ground” between scientific knowledge and what he referred to as the “cunning (狡诈的) intelligence” of politicians, military generals and business leaders. In his Nicomachean Ethics, he rejected the idea that scientific knowledge alone could determine the affairs of the complex human social world. Likewise, he saw that cunning was insufficient to shape society. Aristotle firmly believed that practical wisdom was required for the advancement of the human race as it would take into account what he called “the common good”, doing what is right for the majority of people living together in society. Aristotle’s philosophy is still sound today. But to the extent that we side with him, we must challenge our modern era’s overwhelming emphasis on the STEM disciplines as the key to progress. Yes, we will continue to welcome advances in computerization, robotics, medicine and more. But to ensure these innovations are in service of the good life, we must also advance our thinking in the humanities: philosophy, social affairs and the arts. Instead of just STEM, we should perhaps be promoting STEMMA. In that case, we will be able to raise a new generation that has greater capacities for managing collective human efforts and appreciating the arts. Management education — the new “M” — has not always been integrated into humanistic thinking, but it must become more so. Our goal must be to develop the thoughtful leaders of the future. Regarding the “A”, how could it be to the future without stressing the arts, which inform our knowledge of beauty and meaning in human affairs? All the brilliant discoveries of STEM will not solve the grand challenges of today’s world — ignorance, poverty, intolerance and political conflict — without the practical wisdom of humanities-trained leaders. We can’t rush unintentionally into the future without the capabilities necessary for preserving our human dignity in a world of artificial superintelligence (ASI). Humans are not robots and neurons (神经元) are not digital switches. It is only through the humanities that we will be able to appreciate the answers that superintelligent computers give us when we ask them questions. It is only through the humanities that we will increasingly recognize and build on what we humans uniquely are. 12. What is the possible result of relying only on STEM disciplines? A. A lack of the precision needed for modern innovations. B. Much emphasis on theoretical over practical knowledge. C. Human’s inability to meet severe challenges of the society. D. Barriers to the development of artificial superintelligence. 13. The term “practical wisdom” used by Aristotle emphasizes ________. A. the need for military strategies in social development B. the importance of thoughtful business leaders of the future C. the advantage of political philosophy over scientific knowledge D. the value of balancing scientific knowledge and cunning intelligence 14. What can we infer about “STEMMA”? A. It directs STEM towards human-centered goals. B. It empowers humans to manage the global economy. C. It represents an educational model designed to replace STEM. D. It suggests art appreciation is the ultimate solution to global challenges. 15. How does the author view the relationship between humans and ASI? A. The development of ASI comes at the expense of human dignity. B. Human uniqueness is defined by contrasting it with ASI’s capabilities. C. ASI’s outputs are beyond humans’ comprehension without the humanities. D. ASI’s analytical power can make up for the shortcomings in the humanities. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据倒数第二段“All the brilliant discoveries of STEM will not solve the grand challenges of today’s world — ignorance, poverty, intolerance and political conflict — without the practical wisdom of humanities-trained leaders.(如果没有受过人文教育的领导者的实践智慧,STEM的所有辉煌发现都无法解决当今世界的重大挑战——无知、贫困、不宽容和政治冲突)”可知,如果仅仅依赖STEM学科,人类将无法应对社会的严峻挑战。 根据第二段“In his Nicomachean Ethics, he rejected the idea that scientific knowledge alone could determine the affairs of the complex human social world. Likewise, he saw that cunning was insufficient to shape society. Aristotle firmly believed that practical wisdom was required for the advancement of the human race as it would take into account what he called “the common good”, doing what is right for the majority of people living together in society.(在他的《尼各马可伦理学》中,他拒绝了仅凭科学知识就可以决定复杂人类社会的各项事务的观点。同样,他看到狡智不足以塑造社会。亚里士多德坚信,人类进步需要实践智慧,因为它将考虑到他所谓的“共同利益”,为社会中大多数共同生活的人做正确的事)”可知,亚里士多德提出“实践智慧”是为了强调平衡科学知识和狡智的价值。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Instead of just STEM, we should perhaps be promoting STEMMA. 根据最后一段“It is only through the humanities that we will be able to appreciate the answers that superintelligent computers give us when we ask them questions. It is only through the humanities that we will increasingly recognize and build on what we humans uniquely are.(只有通过人文学科,我们才能理解超级智能计算机在我们向它们提问时给我们的答案。只有通过人文学科,我们才能不断认识并发扬我们人类的独特之处)”可知,作者认为,如果没有人文学科,人工超级智能的产出是人类无法理解的。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The integration of AI into education is rapidly shifting from theoretical discussion to practical application. Her parents had always insisted on celebrating traditional Chinese festivals, no matter how busy their lives were. But Jade had never really understood why. To her, these festivals meant boring preparations, strange-tasting food, and missing out on fun plans with her American friends. Mid-Autumn Festival was approaching. Early that morning, Jade’s mom was up at dawn, bustling around the kitchen. The scent of osmanthus (桂花) cake and braised pork filled the house. On the dining table, there were mooncakes of different flavors. Jade frowned as she glanced at the spread. She had already made plans to have fun with her friends. “Mom, I can’t stay for the Mid-Autumn celebration,” Jade said, with her backpack over her shoulder. “My friends are waiting for me.” Her mom wiped her hands on her apron (围裙) and sat down beside Jade. Instead of scolding her, Mom took out an old photo album from the cabinet. Inside were pictures of her and Dad when they first moved to the US — young, smiling, standing in front of a small apartment with a mooncake in their hands. “This festival isn’t just about mooncakes and lanterns,” Mom said, her voice gentle. “When I was a little girl in Guangzhou, every Mid-Autumn, my family would gather on the rooftop. We’d eat mooncakes, drink chrysanthemum tea, and stare at the full moon. Back then, I thought it was just a fun night. But when I moved here, far away from my parents, the moon became a link to my hometown. No matter where we are, the same moon shines over us and our family in China. Celebrating this festival is our way of keeping that connection alive.” Mom closed the photo album and patted Jade’s hand. “You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to. Go have fun with your friends.” Jade stared at her mom’s face, seeing the faint glimmer of homesickness in her eyes. Jade hesitated for a moment, and then dropped off her backpack. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As the moon rose high in the sky, the family sat together on the balcony (阳台). ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version Paragraph 1: Jade hesitated for a moment, and then dropped off her backpack. She walked back to the dining table and asked, “Mom, which flavor moon cakes did grandma like best?” Her mother’s eyes lit up with surprise and joy. “Red bean,” she answered softly. “She always said it reminded her of the sweet taste of home.” Jade nodded and carefully selected a red bean moon cake. They sat at the dining table, chatting about the stories Mom heard as a kid. Jade listened carefully this time, finally understanding the warmth behind those tales. (81 words) Paragraph 2: As the moon rose high in the sky, the family sat together on the balcony (阳台). Jade held the red bean moon cake in her hands and looked up at the full moon. “Mom,” she whispered, “do you think Grandma can see us?” Her mother smiled. “She sees the same moon, sweetheart. That’s how we’re connected.” Jade bit into the red bean moon cake. It tasted like family, like heritage, like love that travels across oceans. At that moment, she realized that the Mid-Autumn Festival was not just about food or stories — it was about love, family, and the moon that linked them all together. B Toronto-based artist Ava Roth is unlike other cooperative artists: instead of working with people, she works with bees. Art and nature: A magical method to design embroidery C Established earthquake warning systems provide at best just a minute or two of notice, leaving little time for preparedness. D Who doesn’t stand in awe of the advances that science and its STEM siblings (technology, engineering, and math) have created to better our world? The integration of AI into education is rapidly shifting from theoretical discussion to practical application. Once viewed with doubt, AI is now emerging as a powerful ally (助手) in the classroom, particularly in the field of academic writing. As students face complex research and communication demands, and teachers deal with growing class sizes and grading loads, AI writing tools offer innovative solutions that support both sides of the educational process. ____16____ These tools are transforming the learning landscape, providing personalized feedback, and facilitating efficient content generation. ____17____ A good AI writing tool can also help learners become more confident, clear-thinking and critical communicators. Meanwhile, it allows teachers to focus more on high-level teaching and individual guidance. ____18____ The large volume of writing assignments to grade can be stressful, often leading to burnout and a struggle to provide timely feedback. AI writing tools are stepping in to ease this burden. They can perform grammar checks, detect academic dishonesty, and offer revision suggestions. By handling these basic tasks, AI frees up teachers to focus on guiding complex thinking and addressing individual learning needs. For students, AI writing tools act as personalized learning partners that adapt to individual needs. ____19____ They struggle with organizing ideas and expressing themselves clearly in writing. AI can generate starter ideas, provide instant grammar feedback, and help create logical outlines, building confidence and independence. However, the power of AI in education also brings notable risks. Over-reliance may weaken students’ thinking skills, and unequal access to advanced tools could widen the learning gap between students. ____20____ With clear guidelines and proper training, AI can become a powerful force for developing deeper thinking and more meaningful learning experiences. A. For many learners, writing can be a real challenge. B. Yet they can do far more than perform these practical tasks. C. Thus, balancing AI support with human oversight is critical. D. They aim to assist, not replace, the work of teachers and students. E. This technology helps reduce the heavy marking load on teachers. F. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
