All around the world, buildings are going green! People are making green buildings. What does it mean to go green or to make a green building? A green building is designed in a way that is not harmful to the environment. The building uses energy, water, and other materials in ways that are good for the environment.
When planning green buildings, architects (建筑师) must think about how to use energy, water, and materials in an environment-friendly way. There are many ways to save energy. Architects can design buildings to use natural light. Buildings can also be designed to get energy from the Sun or the wind. To save water, green buildings can have areas on the roofs to collect rainwater. Kitchens and bathrooms can have sinks (洗涤池) and toilets (马桶) that conserve water. As for the building materials, it is important to use materials that do not have chemicals that are harmful to the air and water. Recycled materials can also be used for buildings.
Buildings around the world use these ways to go green. An office building called CH2 in Melbourne, Australia, uses wind and solar power. A cultural centre in London, England is made from recycled train cars and is powered by solar and wind power. The Academy of Sciences building in California, America uses recycled materials and solar energy, and has a huge “living roof” of plants. A temple in Thailand is made out of one million recycled glass bottles! This is a good use of recycled materials, and it also lets natural light into the temple.
More and more green buildings are being built and they are making the world a better place!

A. How to save energy in buildings B. Recycled materials in architecture
C. Famous green buildings around the world D. Going green: buildings that help our planet

Have you ever found that kids seem to learn new things faster than adults? Well, it’s true! A new study showed that kids do pick up new knowledge and skills faster than grown-ups.
This happens because of a special chemical in the brain called GABA. It helps the brain remember newly learnt things. While other studies have tested GABA levels (水平) in children, this study looked at GABA levels before, during and after learning in kids aged 8 to 11, and compared them to GABA levels in adults aged 18 to 35.
Scientists from the USA and Germany studied how kids and adults learn by checking their brains. They examined visual (视觉的) learning in primary school age children and adults using the latest techniques to test how well they learnt. They saw that children’s brains quickly made more GABA while learning, and this extra (额外的) GABA stayed for a while after the learning. But in the brains of adults, the levels of GABA did not change at all during or after the learning.
“We found that children learnt much more quickly than adults. It agrees with the common belief that children are better at learning new things,” said Dr Sebastian Frank, one of the scientists from Germany. “Our results also point to GABA as a key player in helping kids learn faster.”
The researchers said the findings should encourage teachers and parents to give children as many chances as possible to learn new skills. Scientists hope to use these findings to help adults learn better too. In the future, they may develop a new technology to increase GABA levels in adults’ brains to help them learn faster!
( ) 31. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By making a report.
C. By asking a question. D. By giving an example.
( ) 32. What does GABA help the brain do?
A. Make good decisions. B. Remember new things.
C. Relax with a good sleep. D. Forget unimportant things.
( ) 33. What did the scientists probably do to test how well people learnt?
A. They played music for them. B. They let them share opinions.
C. They showed pictures to them. D. They asked them to take notes.
( ) 34. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Why the study is important. B. Why the scientists did the study.
C. How the scientists did the study. D. What the scientists found in the study.
( ) 35. Why did the writer write the passage?
A. To help adults learn something new.
B. To explain why kids are best at learning.
C. To show a study on why kids learn faster than adults.
D. To teach people how to raise GABA levels in their brains.

In 2026, a humanoid robot named “Flash” took part in a half marathon and won. It completed the whole race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds. This amazing result broke the former human record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds. Flash was developed by Honor, a famous Chinese smartphone company.
Flash is 1.69 metres tall with 0.95-metre-long legs. Its design draws ideas from excellent human athletes, and this makes it move more naturally and smoothly while running.
Long hours of running can make robots get too hot. To solve this problem, the team created a liquid (液体) cooling system. There are thin channels (通道) inside the robot’s motor. Cooling liquid flows through them all the time, and this keeps Flash’s temperature at 31.5℃ throughout the race.
Honor also used its great smartphone technologies to create this robot, including energy-saving technology and advanced (先进的) battery technology. These technologies make Flash light but very strong. When it runs, it is even more powerful than a common family car.
Flash could finish the race all by itself. With the help of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (北斗卫星导航系统), lots of sensors and smart programs, it can sense the environment, plan its running path and control its body movements with no human help.
The humanoid robot half marathon is not just a simple race. It shows advanced technology. The skills for robot running, such as keeping balance and making quick decisions, can be widely used in daily life. These robots can save people after disasters, look after the elderly and offer useful services to people in need.

Hello, everyone! I’d like to tell you something about the show “Working the waste into magic”.
A number of creative works were on show, including clothes made from waste paper and model planes made of used wood and glass. Another amazing work is a chair that is made of plastic bottles. The bottles are glued together and painted in different colours.
I was most interested in a backpack for computers. It is made out of a pair of old jeans! With the zipper of the jeans on the top and two pockets on two sides, the backpack looks both useful and fashionable. It even has a logo!
I felt amazed at how waste could be put to such good use. It really helps save energy and build a greener future.
