Unit 5 Music Period 1 Listening and Speaking What kind of music do you like? 等句型问答音乐偏好并说明理由;能在对话中运用 So you mean…? / In other words…? 进行回应,完成向外国朋友介绍武汉音乐生活的真实交际任务。 三、教学重难点 教学重点 1. 听:通过三遍听力,准确说出三位学生各自喜欢什么音乐(大意+细节)。 2. 说:用 What kind of music do you like? / What makes it so special to you? 问答音乐偏好,并说清理由。 教学难点 1. 听辨:听出记者“换个说法”重复学生意思的 paraphrase 句,说出它在对话里的两个作用——确认听懂、表示兴趣。 2. 运用:口语中不只会背句型,还能用 So you mean…? / In other words…? 回应同伴,完成一次真实的音乐推荐。 四、教学过程 (说明:本环节用英文组织教学;每个步骤含 Teacher instructions 教师指令、What students do 学生活动,以及与导学案完全一致的学习内容。) Step 1 Lead-in: Music Around Wuhan Teacher instructions: Greet the class. Show pictures or play very short clips of music scenes in Wuhan (East Lake Greenway, Chuhe Han Street, a school music festival, a livehouse). Ask the students to work in pairs and talk about music around them. What students do: Work in pairs, ask and answer the three questions, then share one interesting idea with the whole class. Work in pairs. Ask and answer the following questions, then share one interesting idea with the class. 1. Do you often hear music in public places in Wuhan? Where? (East Lake Greenway · Chuhe Han Street · our school music festival · livehouse shows) 2. What kind of music do people enjoy there? Pop? Rock? Chinese folk music? 3. Which piece of music reminds you of Wuhan? Why? Today our task: our school is going to hold the "Wuhan Campus Music Festival". An exchange student from Britain is coming. Can you introduce your music taste and music life in Wuhan to him? Step 2 Part Ⅰ Translation & Thinking Teacher instructions: Read the quote aloud. Ask students what it means and whether they need words to enjoy music. Collect two or three answers. What students do: Listen to the quote, think about the two questions, and share their own experience. "Music is the universal language of mankind." — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Think and share: 1. What does this quote mean to you? 2. Do you need words to enjoy music? Give one example from your own experience. Step 3 Part Ⅱ Listening Activity 1 Warming up Teacher instructions: Before playing the audio, ask students to look at the four pictures on the screen and match them with the types of music. What students do: Look at the pictures and match them. Check answers as a class. Before listening, match the pictures with the correct types of music. A. Chinese traditional B. classical C. country music D. hip-hop Activity 2 First listening Teacher instructions: Play the recording for the first time. Tell students: only catch the gist — what kind of music does each of the three students like? Then ask them to complete the sentences. What students do: Listen for the gist and fill in the three blanks. Listen to the interviews and find out what kind of music the three students each like. 1. The first student likes to ________________________. 2. The second student likes to ______________________. 3. The third student likes to ________________________. Activity 3 Second listening Teacher instructions: Play the recording again. Tell students this time to catch how the reporter repeats the students’ ideas in different words (paraphrase). Ask them to complete the sentences with the words they hear. What students do: Listen for detail, complete the four blanks, and notice how the reporter paraphrases. The reporter paraphrased some of the answers. Listen to the interviews again and complete the sentences with the words you hear. 1. A: Country music touches my heart. B: So you like music that's ________ of ________? 2. A: When I listen to hip-hop, I just have to move! B: So it makes you want to ________________? 3. A: Classical music makes me feel like I'm sitting beside a quiet stream and enjoying nature. B: So to you, it's ________ and ________? Strategy: Paraphrase means saying the same idea in different words. In the interview, the reporter uses it to check understanding and to show interest. Activity 4 Third listening Teacher instructions: Play the recording once more. Ask students to listen for the function of paraphrase and discuss: why does the reporter say the same thing in different words? What students do: Listen again, discuss in pairs, and say the two functions: to check understanding and to show interest. Listen to the interviews again and think about the function of paraphrase in listening. Step 4 Part Ⅲ Speaking: My Music Story in Wuhan Activity 1 Enjoy some pieces of music and tell us your feelings. Teacher instructions: Play three short pieces — a symphony orchestra, rock music, and pipa. Ask students to say what they feel. Point out that the pipa is a traditional Chinese musical instrument. What students do: Listen to each piece and say their feelings in one or two sentences. 1. the first piece of music — played by a symphony orchestra 2. the second piece of music — rock music 3. the third piece of music — played by pipa The pipa is a traditional Chinese musical instrument. Think: how can we introduce Chinese folk music to a foreign friend in English? Activity 2 Talk in pairs. Interview each other about music. Teacher instructions: Explain the task. Show the helpful expressions and the example. Remind students to use "So you mean...?" to show interest, just like the reporter in the interview. What students do: Work in pairs, take turns to interview each other about music, and use the sentence patterns to ask follow-up questions. These expressions may help you. · What kind of music do you like? · What makes it so special to you? · I like to listen to it when... It gives me energy. / It makes me feel... · So you mean...? / In other words...? (Use paraphrase to show interest!) Example: A: What kind of music do you like? B: I like techno music. A: What makes it so special to you? B: I like to listen to it when I exercise. It gives me energy. Task Complete your "My Music Story" card Teacher instructions: Hand out the card. Ask students to complete it after the interview, then give a one-minute introduction to their partner: what music they love, how it makes them feel, and where the exchange student can enjoy it in Wuhan. What students do: Complete the card and give a 1-minute introduction. Then listen to their partner. Music type I like it because... Feelings it gives me Best place in Wuhan to enjoy it Now give your partner a 1-minute introduction: What music do you love, how does it make you feel, and where can the exchange student enjoy it in Wuhan (East Lake, Han Street, our campus...)? Speaking Rubric (for self- and peer-assessment) Teacher instructions: Show the rubric. Ask students to assess their partner and themselves using the four dimensions. What students do: Give their partner one star level per dimension and say one good point and one suggestion. Level B Advanced: Record a 1-minute audio message introducing your music preference to a foreign friend. Level C Extension: Search online for one kind of Chinese folk music (e.g. pipa, erhu, guzheng) and write 3 sentences to introduce it in English. 六、板书设计 (主板书,居中分三块呈现) Unit 5 Music Period 1 Listening and Speaking — Talk about music preferences 1. Kinds of music: country / hip-hop / classical / Chinese traditional / pop / rock 2. Feeling words: peaceful, beautiful, energetic, calm, touched, excited 3. Sentence patterns: — What kind of music do you like? — What makes it so special to you? — So you mean...? / In other words...? (paraphrase) 4. Task: My Music Story — music type + reasons + best place in Wuhan 口语环节仍有相当一部分学生只说 I like... because...,主动用 So you mean…? 的不多。下次在示范对话后加两步:全班齐读转述句、两人一组换词操练,再多练两次开口会更顺。 3. 作业跟进:Level B 的录音作业下节课开头抽2—3份播放,用量表现场评,不然布置了容易收不上来;开口困难的学生课后拿句型卡片单独带一遍。 八、参考答案 (Answer Key) Part Ⅰ 音乐是人类通用的语言。——亨利·沃兹沃斯·朗费罗 Part Ⅱ Listening Activity 1 1. B 2. A 3. C 4. D Activity 2 1. listen to country music 2. dance to hip-hop music 3. play the piano (classical music) Activity 3 1. full; feeling 2. dance 3. peaceful; beautiful Activity 4 1. to check if the listener's understanding is correct. 2. to show interest in what the speaker has said. Part Ⅲ Speaking Activity 1 1. I like listening to music played by orchestras. I can hear things played on instruments from all of the different families—woodwinds, strings, percussion and brass. Also, classical music tends to be slower, so it makes me feel calm when I listen to it. 2. Rock music lets me have a strong feeling, happy or sad. 3. It brings me peace and beauty, letting me feel relaxed. Activity 2 (Reference example) A: What kind of music do you like? B: I like Chinese folk music, for example, pipa music. A: What makes it so special to you? B: I like to listen to it when I have leisure time. It brings peace and beauty to me, which makes me feel like I'm lying by a stream in a forest. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
