Here are 7 key facts to help you understand yourself better. [Para.1] Your teenage years are important for brain development. The brain keeps developing until your mid-to-late 20s. The prefrontal cortex (前额叶) is one of the last parts to develop. It helps with planning and making good decisions. [Para.2] Social experiences shape your brain. Brain areas for social skills become more active, making you care more about friends and peer groups. So you may take risks — like joining a new club (positive) or doing dangerous things (negative) — because social rewards may outweigh (比…更重要) the results. [Para.3] Your brain is ready to learn and adapt (适应). It's very adaptable. You may enjoy taking challenging classes, exercising, or doing creative activities like art or music. These activities all strengthen brain pathways and speed up growth. [Para.4] Stress affects teens differently than adults. Because your brain is still developing, you may be more likely to get anxiety and depression. You can learn to spot what stresses you and find ways to deal with it. [Para.5] Most teens don't get enough sleep. Melatonin (褪黑素) stays high later at night and drops later in the morning, so you naturally stay up late and struggle to wake early. Lack of sleep hurts attention, self-control, and school performance. [Para.6] Mental illnesses may first appear during the teen years. With rapid changes in the brain, body, and emotions, many disorders like depression (抑郁症) and eating disorders (失调) often appear at this time. A. Go to bed late and find it hard to get up in the morning. B. Make decisions quickly without thinking them through. C. Be more easily influenced by stress than grown-ups. D. Get pleasure from various activities that test abilities. E. Experience rapid physical and emotional changes. F. Take risks to gain acceptance from peers. 46. [Para.1] ______ 47. [Para.2] ______ 48. Making friends, however, is as simple as it is difficult. Do you find it hard to make new friends? Here is some experts' advice. Accept the awkwardness (尴尬) Heather Havrilesky is an agony aunt (咨询专栏作者). She points out that believing other people also need friends is important to making friends. “Many people think that everybody already has his or her friends,” she says. “This is a wrong idea. Nobody already has their friends.” It is uncomfortable to send the first message or hang out with someone alone for the first time. You have to accept that awkwardness. You can't have friends without feeling embarrassed. Spend time on your hobbies If you ask people how you can make new friends, many of them will tell you to try picking up a hobby. Havrilesky says that this truly works. “Do the things you like, and you will naturally draw people to you,” she says. “You will meet people with the same hobbies.” You may start with your favorite hobby. If it doesn't work out, remind yourself that you have many talents. You don't have to be interested in just one thing. Care about your friends If you want to have deep friendships, you have to take care of them. In her book The Art of Showing Up, Rachel Wilkerson Miller shares two tips on strengthening friendships: (1) Take notes. Your notes will help you remember your conversations with your friends. They will offer you points of connection later. (2) Remember the names of people in your friends' lives. You may ask to see pictures of the people they are talking about. They will help you better remember these people in the future. 52. What is the best title for the passage? A. The benefits of having close friendships B. How experts help people make friends C. That's the magic that Feng Zikai, the father of Chinese cartoons, could create. His works show the joys and sorrows of life, full of kindness and care. Feng was born in 1898 in Zhejiang Province. He grew up in a rich family, but he didn't enjoy the traditional studies his father valued. Instead, he loved art from a young age. He even borrowed dyes (染料) from the family shop to color pictures in his father's books. After his father passed away, Feng became known as the “Little Artist” in his town. At school, a teacher named Li Shutong encouraged him to follow his passion. Li taught Feng to draw from real life, not just to trace (临摹) pictures. He also said that a good artist needs both skill and good character — an idea deeply influencing Feng Zikai's art. After graduation (毕业), Feng worked as an art teacher in Shanghai, but he wanted more training. In 1921, he went to Tokyo to study Japanese and European art. Inspired by the Japanese artist Takehisa Yumeji, he returned home with fresh ideas for his ink paintings. Back in China, he joined a group of writers and artists. His drawings soon appeared in popular magazines, making art accessible (容易理解的) to everyone. These works became known as manhua, a type of Chinese cartoon. Feng also designed book covers, illustrated books, and edited magazines, sharing his ideas about kindness and caring for people. Feng had a kind heart. He loved all living things, especially children. He believed that “the most precious thing in the world is a person,” and that children are full of life and spirit. He said teaching children was simple: “Just let them stay a child, and never let them lose their childlike heart.” Through his art and caring ideas, Feng Zikai still inspires people today.
