My favorite wild animal is the giant panda. It is a lovely animal with black and white fur and round black eyes. It mainly lives on bamboo and most of them live in the forests of Sichuan, China.
Sadly, giant pandas are in danger now. Their living areas are becoming smaller and they don't have enough bamboo to eat. Our government is working hard to protect them by building more nature reserves.
I think giant pandas are the treasure of our country. We should protect their homes and never buy things made of wild animals. If we all take action, wild animals can live a better life.

When winter arrived, the porcupine looked for somewhere nice and warm to live. He ran into the woods, looking around for a place.
First, he came to a fallen tree trunk. "This looks like a suitable place!" he said, digging a hole in its side.
But when he poked his head in, he heard "You can't stay here. It's our home, and breakfast, lunch and dinner!" said hundreds of tiny termites. The porcupine apologized and backed away.
"Now, where can I go?" he wondered.
Then he found a space under a thick bush that seemed to be protected from the wind, so he tried crawling there.
"Hey!" hissed the lynx, showing her sharp paws."This is my place, and don't you forget it!" The porcupine went away in a hurry-he didn't want any trouble. The poor porcupine was really getting worried, "I might freeze if I don't find somewhere to stay soon!" he said, his teeth chattering.
A snake overheard the porcupine and felt sorry for him. She poked her head out of her hole and said, "Would you like to stay here with me? My home is quite small, but I'm sure we can both fit"
The porcupine was ever so thankful. He pushed his way into the snake's narrow home. "This is so nice!"he said. "How kind of you to let me in!"
However, when the snake tried to get to sleep, she found it impossible to get into a comfortable position. Twist and turn as she might, she was always getting hurt by the porcupine's spines.
"Can you move over a bit?" she asked. The porcupine tried, but it didn't help! They both spent an uneasy night in the little burrow and hardly slept at all! "I really wanted to help the poor porcupine," the snake thought, "but I wish I'd never invited him in."
The porcupine was feeling just as upset. When morning came, he cleared his throat and said,
"I'm sorry that things are so uncomfortable, especially as you have been so kind. I think I have an idea, if you agree!"
The snake was still painful and tired from her sleepless night, so she just nodded. With his paws, the porcupine began scratching at the hole's walls.
As the snake watched in wonder, the porcupine dug out an extra room that was just the right size for him.
"There you are!" he said in a satisfied voice"Now there is plenty of room for both of us!"
The snake and the porcupine shared that burrow all winter It was warmer with the two of them in it, and there was enough space for both animals to sleep comfortably.
The snake enjoyed the stories the porcupine told, and the porcupine was impressed by the snake's skills at finding food. Their unlikely friendship made winter less lonely for both of them.
"I'm glad I let you in!" the snake hissed,"It's really nice to share my home!"

Every winter, Siberian cranes migrate from northeast Siberia in Russia to Poyang Lake in Jiangxi province, China. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season there. However, climate change has endangered the birds’ habitats.
“In some years, the Poyang Lake experiences floods, while in others, it experiences droughts. Both of these create food shortages in the cranes’ habitat,” Qian Fawen, a researcher from the National Bird Banding Center of China, told China Daily.
To help deal with the problem, the local government has built 70 hectares of lotus roots in Nanchang to provide food during the winter for the cranes. The birds’ population has risen from about 3,000 to more than 5,000 over the past 20 years, according to Qian.
Over the years, China has worked hard to protect migratory birds and wetlands. Known as the “Earth’s kidneys”, wetlands play a key role in cleaning water, preventing floods, and helping with biodiversity. The Wetlands Protection Law was introduced on June 1, 2022. It stops building work on important national wetlands and bans activities such as overgrazing and giving out wastewater.
In February, black-faced spoonbills, an endangered species, were seen wintering at Dongting Lake after disappearing for five years. Last December, Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve recorded more than 2,900 tundra swans, up from some 1,000 seen during the winter of 2021. Thanks to these efforts, China has reported more birds wintering in the nation’s wetlands.

Jane Goodall, the world-famous primatologist and conservationist passed away on October 1, 2025, in California, US, while on a speaking tour. Her death was announced by the Jane Goodall Institute, which praised her for revolutionizing science and devoting her life to protecting nature.
Born in London in 1934, Goodall developed a deep love for animals as a child. In 1960, at 26, she traveled to Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park to study chimps — even without formal scientific training. This discovery changed humanity's understanding of animals, as tool-making was once believed to be a skill unique to humans.
Over the next 60 years, Goodall's research uncovered more fascinating facts about chimps: they have distinct personalities, experience emotions like joy and sadness, and form strong family bonds. Later in her life, she shifted her focus to global environmental advocacy. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute and launched "Roots and Shoots", a program aimed at empowering young people to take action in protecting the environment.

Sadly, giant pandas are in danger now. Their living areas are becoming smaller and they don't have enough bamboo to eat. Our government is working hard to protect them by building more nature reserves.

Red squirrels were common in British forests and countryside. But there are fewer than 140,000 red squirrels __11__ now. However, grey squirrels are now so common that many people __12__ them. They can hunt and kill them legally.
The two types of squirrels look similar. They both have a long __13__, which helps them jump from tree to tree, and the same large eyes, small ears and powerful back legs. __14__, the grey squirrel has a clear advantage. The red squirrel has a head-and-body length of 19 to 23 cm and a tail length of 15 to 20cm. But the grey squirrel is a __15__ animal. The head-and-body length is between 23 and 30 cm. So __17__ is the number of red squirrels smaller than that of grey squirrels? Size is one reason. Red squirrels live high up in __18__, while grey squirrels spend more of their time on the ground.

Her patience finally paid off: she became the first person to observe chimps making tools, such as using twigs to "fish" for termites.
