阅读下面的材料,根据内容回答问题。
One of my least favorite chores is cleaning my bedroom, but I have to do it. If my bedroom is untidy, I find it hard to relax and impossible to do any work! My mom always says “a tidy home means a tidy mind”, and I think this is true. If everything is a mess, you just can’t think clearly.
Studies show that people are usually more successful if they work, study, or live in a clean and tidy environment. A study shows that many children with bad behavior (行为) come from messy houses. Children who grow up in dirty houses would probably be unhealthy and they fall sick more often too. This is why people with tidier homes are often healthier and more successful. My mom is a good example of this. She makes sure our home is always very clean and comfortable, so my sister and I hardly ever fall sick. Everyone loves her and she is very successful at her job in a bank.
I am not a naturally tidy person. I sometimes throw my clothes on the floor because I am too tired to put them away, and I often leave rubbish on my desk. It is not easy to keep things clean all the time, but I am trying to develop the habit of tidying up every day. Maybe one day I will be as tidy and successful as my mom! That’s my wish too.
37.What does the mother think a tidy home means?
38.What might cause children’s bad behavior according to the study?
39.What kind of person does the writer wish to be?

Weekends are a great time to relax, but I always make time to help my family with housework. I think it makes our home warmer and sweeter.
On Saturday mornings, I usually get up a little late. After breakfast, I help my mom clean the house. First, I sweep the floor of the living room. Then I tidy my desk. After that, I water the plants on the balcony (阳台)—they look so green and happy after drinking water! My mom often says, “Good girl! You’re really helpful!” In the afternoon, I often go shopping with my mom to buy food for dinner. We usually buy some fresh vegetables and my favorite biscuits.

A special event took place under the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai on August 30, 2025. Claude Brouir, a 63-year-old man from Belgium, arrived after riding more than 12,000 kilometers from Brussels on a solar tricycle (太阳能三轮车). People in Shanghai welcomed him warmly.
Brouir began his trip on April 19. For over 120 days, he rode across mountains, rivers and wide fields in Europe and Asia. His journey was not only for fun, but it was also a dream he had kept for a long time—to build a closer connection with China.
The idea started last November, when Brouir came to Shanghai to visit his eldest son, who now lives in the city. Brouir joined a cycling event and was touched by the kindness of local riders. “That trip gave me the idea—why not ride all the way from Brussels to Shanghai?” he said.
To follow his idea of green travel, Brouir used a special solar tricycle. It had two motors (发动机) and four solar panels (面板). The tricycle also pulled a trailer carrying his tent and daily things. With the help of the panels, he could climb hills without fuel. Along the way, he saw many beautiful places and often received help from strangers.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of China—EU relations (中欧建交50周年), which makes his arrival even more meaningful. Passage 3
25-26八年级上·辽宁省沈阳市东北育才学校中山校区·期中
The Four Great Inventions are major achievements of ancient Chinese civilization (文明), including the compass, paper-making, printing, and gunpowder. They not only shaped China’s development but also had great effects on human civilization worldwide.
The compass, a tool for finding directions, first appeared as “Si Nan” during the Warring States period (475-221 B.C.). This early compass was a magnet (磁铁) spoon that pointed south. In the Song Dynasty, people improved it with iron needles, making it widely used for sailing. Later, it spread to the Arab world and Europe, helping European explorers find new routes.
Before paper-making, Chinese people wrote on heavy bamboo slips or expensive silk. The technology was invented in the early Western Han Dynasty, and a paper map fragment (碎片) from that time is the earliest known paper. In 105 A.D., Eastern Han inventor Cai Lun improved paper-making using cheap materials like bark (树皮) and old cloth. This made paper popular, and the skill later spread to Korea, Japan, and Europe.
Printing developed in two stages. The Tang Dynasty people created woodblock printing by carving words on wooden blocks. Then, in the Northern Song Dynasty, Bi Sheng invented movable clay type. These reusable pieces made printing faster and cheaper—400 years earlier than similar European technology. The technology spread east to Korea and west to Europe, helping the Renaissance (文艺复兴).
Gunpowder was invented by accident in the Sui and Tang dynasties. Alchemists (炼金术士) trying to make “immortal medicine” found an explosive mixture. At first used for fireworks, it was later used in weapons like cannons (大炮) in the Tang and Song dynasties. It spread to Europe through Arab countries, changing warfare forever.

We can talk about anything and everything after a long week of school and work. Every time I sit at the dinner table, my grandma’s dinner table, I look around and find so many people who truly love me. It makes me feel so happy.
Finally, I understand the true meaning of this tradition. It’s not about the dinners or activities. It’s about family, a group of people who care about each other.

40.Is your bedroom tidy or messy? What do you plan to do from now on? (write 30 words or more)

Many families live busy lives. Every week, the children have homework, sports, music lessons and club activities. The parents are busy too. They work, do the housework, cook meals and drive their children to take part in activities. Some families do not have time to eat meals together more than once a week. Our community (社区) decided that it was time to take a break.
After three weeks of planning, we took one night off. We called it the “family night”. It was a night for families to spend time together. Sports teams stopped their practices, and teachers did not give homework.
On the “family night”, we decided to turn off our televisions. We also decided not to answer the phone. Many families ordered hamburgers and other food from stores or restaurants so that they wouldn’t need to spend time cooking.
There were lots of activities. Storytelling and card games were the most popular. These activities gave families the chance (机会) to spend time together. Children and parents weren’t so busy, and children didn’t spend so much time playing computer games or watching TV. On the “family night”, families relaxed and spent the evening together. We hope to have more “family nights”

From September to February each year, Dazhong Mountain in Chuxiong, Yunnan is home to more than 50,000,000 migratory birds (候鸟).
The villagers used to hunt birds to sell on the mountain. “The village is poor, so we have to hunt birds for a living,” they said. Then one year, they couldn’t hear birds singing. People started to worry if migratory birds would ever come back.
In 1984, the local government set up the Hongtupo Forest Police Station. Officers worked on the mountain, trying to find migratory birds and stop people from hunting them. The job was very difficult. They might lose their way or meet dangerous animals.
The officers also tried to tell the villagers the importance of protecting birds and other wild animals. They talked with the villagers and helped them with farm work. “Four great inventions” in ancient China are important symbols of the country. Now China has “new four great inventions”: high-speed trains, mobile payment, bike sharing and online shopping. They are changing people’s lives in China and maybe all over the world.
High-speed trains
By the end of 2016, China had the world’s largest high-speed railway network. More than 2,500 high-speed trains are running across China each day. Lin Jinlong, an overseas student from Cambodia, shared his experience of travelling by Chinese high-speed train from Beijing to Tianjin. The two cities are over 100 km away, but the trip took only about an hour. “That was amazing!” Lin said.
Mobile payment
Mobile payment has become a part of Chinese people’s everyday life. It makes their lives much more convenient. “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat anything with my smart phone,” said Lin, “Even vegetable sellers are using mobile payment.”
Online shopping
You are out if you have never shopped online. Now you can buy almost everything from websites, and get what you’ve bought within days. China’s online shopping makes many foreigners feel both excited and surprised.
Bike sharing
Bike sharing allows users to pick a bike anywhere in the city and leave it anywhere at the end of their journey. It’s really convenient, cheap and green. Mobile, a bike sharing company, has even brought the service to some other countries.

73.What are the four great inventions of ancient China?
74.Out of China, where else was the compass popular then?
75.How did Cai Lun improve paper-making?
76.Besides the inventions mentioned above, the wheel is also a practical invention in human history. What do you think of it and explain why. (30 words or more)

The other “eye” was a small device (设备) with laser sensors (激光传感器). Scientists carried it to collect information while walking through forests. Then, they used AI to study the information and find out the number of trees.
Of course, scientists didn’t visit every forest in China. They chose 76,000 different places across the country and counted the trees there. Then they estimated (估算) how many trees there are in all of China.
Trees are important for our planet. They help control (控制) the temperature and clean the air. They are also home to many animals. Knowing how many trees there are and where they are helps us protect them better.
