They skip breakfast, eat almost nothing at noon, or live on water and fruit for days. 1________ The result can be a body that feels weak, tired and unwell. In serious cases, a young person may even faint, as news reports have shown. Skipping meals may seem like an easy way to cut calories, but it usually works against you. When the body gets no food for a long time, it slows down and stores whatever it can. 2________ That is why many people who skip meals end up eating more later in the day. A better plan is to eat regularly and to build each meal around a few simple things: vegetables, whole grains, some protein and enough water. 3________ Such a balanced plate gives the body the nutrition and energy it needs to study, play sport and grow. Moving your body matters just as much as the food on your plate. You do not need a gym or expensive equipment; walking, cycling, dancing or playing ball games all count. 4________ Half an hour a day is enough to make a real difference. Most importantly, no teenager should try extreme diets alone. If you are worried about your weight, talk to your parents, your doctor or your school nurse rather than following advice from strangers online. 5________ Remember that a healthy body comes in different shapes, and that slow and steady progress is the safest kind. Do not trade your health for a number on the scales. Eat well, move often, sleep enough, and be patient with yourself. A. The important thing is simply to move often and to enjoy it. B. Doctors describe this way of eating as a balanced diet. C. They do all this in the hope of becoming thinner as quickly as possible. D. Many students choose these extreme methods after comparing themselves with thin online stars. E. Then hunger builds up so strongly that it becomes hard to control. F. They can help you find a safe and proper plan that fits your own body. G. Skipping meals, however, is the fastest way to lose weight safely. 五、阅读理解 (一) A fifteen-year-old student from a middle school in the city fainted during a PE lesson last Tuesday. Teachers said the girl, whose name was not given, had been eating almost nothing for more than two weeks in order to lose weight. According to her classmates, the girl often skipped breakfast and lunch, telling friends she was 'just not hungry'. On the morning of the incident she had eaten only an apple. When the class began running, she suddenly felt dizzy, fell to the ground and lost consciousness for about a minute. Doctors at the local hospital said the girl was not seriously ill, but that her body had been badly weakened by a lack of nutrition and energy. 'She is not the only case,' said Dr Zhang, who works in the children's department. 'Every term we see several teenagers who have harmed their health while trying to become slim.' Dr Zhang explained that during the teenage years the body is still growing and needs regular meals with a proper balance of protein, vitamins and other nutrients. Skipping meals, she warned, can lead to fainting, poor concentration, a weak immune system and even long-term damage. 'Losing weight in a dangerous way is never worth it,' she said. The school has now invited doctors to give talks on healthy eating, and it has asked teachers to watch for students who may be under too much pressure about their weight. 'We hope our students will learn that being healthy and strong matters far more than being thin,' the head teacher said. 1.What happened to the girl during the PE lesson? A. She fainted and lost consciousness for about a minute. B. She broke her leg while running with her class. C. She argued with her classmates about food. D. She was sent home early by the head teacher. 2.Why had the girl been eating almost nothing? A. She was too busy with her homework to eat. B. She was seriously ill and could not eat. C. She wanted to lose weight. D. She did not like the food at school. 3.What did the doctors say about the girl's condition? A. She needed an operation at once. B. She was not seriously ill but her body was badly weakened. C. She had never been healthier than before. D. She would have to stay in hospital for a month. 4.What did Dr Zhang warn against? A. Doing PE lessons too often at school. B. Eating vegetables and protein every day. C. Missing school because of a small illness. D. Losing weight in a dangerous way. 5.What is the main idea of the news report? A. Schools should cancel PE lessons for thin students. B. Skipping meals to lose weight put a teenager's health at risk. C. Doctors are too busy to take care of teenagers. D. Apples alone are not enough food for a growing body. (二) Ben was fourteen when he decided that he wanted to change. He was not very overweight, but he felt slow and tired, and he often fell asleep in class. His first idea was to stop eating dinner. His mother, however, suggested something different: eat better, and move more. At first it was not easy. Ben loved sweet drinks and fried food, and giving them up felt like losing a friend. Instead of cutting them out completely, his mother helped him replace them step by step: water instead of cola, fruit instead of sweets, and a bowl of vegetables before every dinner. The second change was exercise. Ben chose something he actually enjoyed: cycling to school instead of taking the bus. Soon he added a short run at weekends and joined the school badminton team. 'When it is fun, it does not feel like work,' he said. Four months later, Ben had lost some weight, but that was not the change he noticed most. He could concentrate better in class, he stopped falling asleep, and he could run up the stairs without getting out of breath. His doctor said his blood pressure and other numbers had all moved into a healthier range. Ben's story suggests a simple lesson for teenagers. Fast diets may promise quick results, but the changes that last are slow, gentle and built on proper food and regular exercise. Ben himself puts it best: 'I did not go on a diet. I just changed how I live.' 6.What problem did Ben have before he changed? A. He was often late for school. B. He felt tired and often fell asleep in class. C. He could not ride a bicycle at all. D. He was too thin to play any sport. 7.What did Ben's mother suggest? A. Eating better food and moving more. B. Stopping eating dinner every day. C. Taking medicine to lose weight quickly. D. Sleeping more instead of doing exercise. 8.How did Ben change his eating habits? A. He gave up all his favourite food at once. B. He ate only fruit for several months. C. He replaced unhealthy food step by step. D. He began skipping breakfast and lunch. 9.What did Ben notice most after four months? A. He became the best player in his team. B. He spent much less time with his family. C. He no longer liked cycling to school. D. He could concentrate better and was not out of breath. 10.What lesson does Ben's story teach? A. Losing weight quickly is always the best goal. B. Teenagers should never eat any sweet food. C. Lasting health comes from proper food and regular exercise. D. A doctor's advice is useful only for adults. 形容词 dangerous(危险的)去后缀 -ous 构成名词 danger,“危险”,如:in great danger(处于极大危险中)。 2. 3.形容词 balanced(均衡的)去后缀 -ed 构成名词 balance,“平衡”,如:keep a balance between work and rest(保持劳逸平衡)。 4. 10.动词 faint(昏倒)加后缀 -ing 构成名词 fainting,“昏厥、晕倒”,如:a case of fainting(一例昏厥)。 中形容词 strict 后接名词单数,go on a diet 意为“节食、减肥”,故填 diet。 4.“症状”,a common ... 5.“习惯”,a bad ... 四、七选五 1.C:首段先列举“skip breakfast, eat almost nothing at noon, or live on water and fruit”等做法,C 选项“他们这样做,是希望尽可能快地变瘦”正好说明这些做法的目的,并引出后文“The result can be a body that feels weak”,故选 C。 2.E:第二段说身体长时间得不到食物时会“slows down and stores whatever it can”,E 选项“接着饥饿感会强烈到难以控制”承接这一变化,并与后文“eating more later in the day”形成因果,故选 E。 3.B:第三段列举“vegetables, whole grains, some protein and enough water”后需要一句概括,B 选项“医生把这种吃法称为均衡饮食”用 a balanced diet 呼应下文“Such a balanced plate”,故选 B。 4.A:第四段说“walking, cycling, dancing or playing ball games all count”,强调运动形式不限,A 选项“重要的是经常活动并享受其中”承上启下,并与后文“Half an hour a day”衔接,故选 A。 5.F:第五段建议青少年“talk to your parents, your doctor or your school nurse”,F 选项中的 they 指代父母、医生或校医,说明“他们能帮你找到适合你身体的、安全恰当的计划”,故选 F。 五、阅读理解 1.A:第一、二段说“fainted during a PE lesson”“lost consciousness for about a minute”,说明她在体育课上晕倒并短暂失去意识,故选 A。 2.C:第一段“had been eating almost nothing for more than two weeks in order to lose weight”直接说明她几乎不吃东西是为了减肥,故选 C。 3.B:第三段“the girl was not seriously ill, but that her body had been badly weakened by a lack of nutrition and energy”即医生说她病情不重但身体已被严重削弱,故选 B。 4.D:第四段 Dr Zhang 说“Losing weight in a dangerous way is never worth it”,即警告不要用危险的方式减肥,故选 D。 6.B:第一段“he felt slow and tired, and he often fell asleep in class”说明他此前感到疲惫、上课常犯困,故选 B。 7.A:第一段末句“His mother, however, suggested something different: eat better, and move more.” 8.C:第二段“Instead of cutting them out completely, his mother helped him replace them step by step”说明他是一步步替换不健康的食物,故选 C。 9.D:第四段“he could concentrate better in class...he could run up the stairs without getting out of breath”正是他四个月后最明显的改变,故选 D。 10.C:末段“the changes that last are slow, gentle and built on proper food and regular exercise”点明主旨:持久的健康来自合理饮食与规律运动,故选 C。
