Making a school introduction handbook may seem difficult at first, but if you follow a few clear steps, the whole project becomes much easier. 1________ It also saves a lot of time, because everyone can share the different parts of the work. Before you begin, it is helpful to look at some good examples made by students in earlier years.
The first step is to decide your topic and your readers. Are you writing for new students, or for their parents? 2________ A handbook for new students, for example, should include a school map, a class timetable and some useful phone numbers. A guide for parents, on the other hand, may pay more attention to the school rules and the clubs that their children can join.
Next, it is time to collect your materials. Walk around the school and take photos of the library, the gym and the science laboratories. 3________ You can also interview your teachers and classmates to get interesting stories about the school, and write down the most useful facts in your notebook as soon as you hear them.
After that, you need to design the pages. Choose a clear title, divide the content into different sections, and use short sentences that are easy to read. 4________ A simple and tidy layout always works better than a crowded one, and a few bright colours can make the key points stand out.
Finally, present your work to the class. Explain why you chose each part and answer your classmates' questions patiently. 5________ If you listen carefully to their advice, your next project will be even better. With good planning and teamwork, anyone can produce a handbook to be proud of.
A. The clearer your purpose is, the more useful your content will be.
B. These pictures will make your handbook lively and easy to remember.
C. Handwriting is always more important than the content of a handbook.
D. Working with your classmates as a team can make the task easier and more fun.
E. Their suggestions often point out things that you have missed.
F. Do not try to put too much information on a single page.
G. Reading aloud in front of others is the best way to learn English.
五、阅读理解
(一)
Hello, my name is Wang Lei, and I am a student at Sunshine Secondary School. Our school is in the east of the city and has more than two thousand students. Let me show you around and tell you something about the places where we study and enjoy ourselves. There are so many interesting places here that it is hard to know where to start.
The first place I want to introduce is the library. It is a modern building with three floors and thousands of books on different subjects. Students can borrow books for two weeks, and there is a quiet reading room where we can study after class. Next to the library is the science building, which contains several laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology.
If you enjoy sports, you will love our gym. It is large enough to hold two basketball matches at the same time, and there are also rooms for dancing and table tennis. Behind the gym is our canteen, where we have three meals a day. The food there is cheap and healthy, and my favourite dish is noodles with vegetables. Many students also go there for a quick talk with friends after lunch.
Our school also has many clubs. Students who are interested in music, art or drama can always find a club to join. Last year, our drama club gave a big performance, and everyone loved it. I am proud of my school, not only because its facilities are good, but also because it gives every student a chance to grow.

(二)
Last month, our English teacher gave us a project: in groups of four, we had to make a poster introducing our school to foreign visitors. At first, I felt worried, because I had never made a poster in English before. Our group met after class and decided to divide the work among us. We were all excited about the idea, although none of us was sure how to begin.
I was responsible for collecting information. I interviewed a few teachers and took photos of the library, the gym and the garden. One of my group members, Liu Na, wrote the texts, and the other two designed the layout and drew small pictures. We spent three afternoons putting everything together.
The most difficult part was the language. When we described the school, we often used Chinese expressions that did not sound natural in English. Our teacher helped us correct them and taught us some useful phrases. We also asked a friend who is good at English to read our writing again. Little by little, our poster became clearer and more attractive.
On the day of the presentation, each group showed its work to the class. Our poster won praise for its clear design and interesting pictures, and our teacher put it up on the wall of the classroom. Through this project, I learned not only new words but also how to work with others. I now believe that doing a project is a much better way to learn than just reading a textbook.
6.What was the project the teacher gave the students?
A. To write a book about English study.
B. To make a poster introducing their school.
C. To visit a foreign school in another city.
D. To take part in an English speaking competition.
7.What was the writer responsible for?
A. Writing the texts of the poster.
B. Drawing the small pictures.
C. Collecting information for the group.
D. Designing the layout of the poster.
8.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. The group found the language difficult but improved with the teacher's help.
B. The group refused to use English in the poster.
C. The teacher did not want to help the group at all.
D. The group finished the whole poster in one afternoon.
9.Why did their poster win praise?
A. Because it was the largest poster in the class.
B. Because it had a clear design and interesting pictures.
C. Because it was written in Chinese for visitors.
D. Because it was handed in earlier than others.
10.What does the writer think of project work?
A. It is a waste of time for students.
B. It is only good for art students.
C. It is easier than taking exams.
D. It is more useful than reading a textbook alone.
