When I arrived in Britain last September as an exchange student, I expected school life there to be completely different from that in China. After a few weeks, however, I found that the two systems share more than I had imagined, though some daily habits are clearly different. In this short passage, I would like to share a few of the differences and similarities I have noticed. 1________
One clear difference is the length of the school day. In my British school, lessons usually start at nine o'clock and finish around half past three, with a long lunch break in the middle of the day. 2________ Students here seem to have more free time to join clubs and take part in different activities after class.
School uniforms are another topic that interests me. Almost every British school has its own uniform, and students usually wear it with pride. Some students even wear small badges on their uniforms after they win a prize. 3________ In both countries, the uniform helps students feel that they belong to one community, no matter what their family background is.
Assemblies and ceremonies also differ. My British school holds a short assembly every week, where the head teacher shares news and praises students' achievements in public. 4________ Chinese schools often celebrate important festivals with class meetings and performances, which also bring students from different classes together.
Of course, there are challenges as well. At first, I found it hard to follow lessons taught entirely in English, and group discussions made me nervous because I was afraid of making mistakes. 5________ With time, I learned to speak up and made many friends from different countries. Looking back, the exchange year has taught me to respect different ways of learning.
A. In my Chinese school, we followed a similar rule about school dress.
B. In China, such gatherings usually take a different form.
C. An ordinary school day shows both the differences and the similarities.
D. In China, students often stay at school until late in the evening.
E. Yet these difficulties slowly turned into valuable opportunities to grow.
F. I also joined a photography club, which I enjoyed very much.
G. Some British students prefer to bring their own lunch to school.
五、阅读理解
(一)
Chen Yu, a Senior One student from Nanjing, spent last term at a secondary school in Manchester as an exchange student. Before he left, he worried that he would feel like a stranger in a new country. 'I thought everyone would already have their own friends,' he said. 'But on my first day, a boy called Jack sat next to me and explained the timetable to me.'
The school day in Britain was shorter than Chen Yu was used to. Lessons began at nine and ended at half past three, so he had a long afternoon free. He used the time to join the school's music club and the chess society. 'In China, my days were full of classes from morning to evening,' he said. 'Here I have more time to explore what I really enjoy.'
One thing Chen Yu found difficult was speaking up in class. British students were encouraged to ask questions and share their opinions freely, while he was used to listening quietly and taking notes. At first he felt nervous. His English teacher, Ms Green, noticed this and often asked for his opinion. 'She told me that my ideas from China were valuable,' Chen Yu said.
By the end of the term, Chen Yu had changed a lot. He had made friends from several countries, joined a school concert, and even given a short talk about Chinese festivals at a weekly assembly. 'Both school systems have good points,' he says. 'British schools give students more freedom, and Chinese schools build strong foundations. I hope to keep the best of both.'

(二)
Every October, Greenwood Secondary School holds its annual Culture Week, a tradition that has lasted for more than twenty years. For five days, the whole school turns into a lively stage where students present and share different cultures. Each class chooses a country or a region, decorates its classroom, and prepares food, music and short performances.
The week begins with an opening assembly in the main hall. The head teacher gives a short speech, and student representatives introduce what each class will present. After that, students move from classroom to classroom, tasting dishes, watching dances and asking questions. 'I have never been abroad,' says Amy, a Senior Two student, 'but during Culture Week I feel as if I have travelled around the world.'
Teachers say the event is not just about fun. By taking part in Culture Week, students learn to work in teams, plan their own activities and speak in front of others. They also learn to respect people whose traditions are different from their own. 'A school should be a place where diversity is celebrated,' says Mr Clarke, the head teacher.
For many students, the most popular part is the final ceremony on Friday afternoon. Each class presents a short programme, and the best one is chosen by a group of teachers and students. 'Winning is exciting,' says Amy, 'but what I enjoy most is the chance to understand another culture and to make new friends.'
