Three months after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Rebecca Sell, a photographer and reporter, photographed a New Orleans couple worriedly examining photo collections. As she took the photo, a thought flashed through her mind. “I told them I could take the ruined/destroyed pictures, copy them and give them digitally restored (修复) photos,” she recalls. Although a bit sceptical/doubt, the couple agreed. Rebecca took their photos home, restored them and took them to the couple at their home. “It felt so good to be able to do that for them,” says Rebecca.
When her editor, Dave Ellis, saw the photo of the couple, he suggested they go back and restore destroyed photos for even more people. So in January 2006, with paid time off from the paper, the two set up Operation Photo Rescue in Pass Christian. After posting a notice in the community newsletter, Rebecca and Dave received 500 photos in four days. For each, the pair took a new digital picture, then used high-tech software to erase/remove the water spots/mud and restore colors. It just so happened that a popular website mentioned the experience, and soon Operation Photo Rescue had emails from hundreds of volunteers, including photographers and restoration experts, eager to help.
Though digital restoration is a painstaking process, mending valuable family pictures means the world to victims like Emily Lancaster, 71, who took out lots of destroyed photo collections after Katrina, never thinking the mess could be saved. But she just couldn’t lose a few treasured pictures, including a picture of her father, who had passed away, and a photo of her husband as a boy. Then she heard about Operation Photo Rescue. “I didn’t have a whole lot of hope they could fix them, but they did,” Emily says. “Almost every day I think about all the pictures I’ve lost. I’m so happy to have these two.”
In the five years since Katrina, Operation Photo Rescue has collected thousands of pictures. Volunteers make “copy runs” to areas across the country to gather destroyed photos. “It’s great to be able to give people some of their history back,” says Rebecca. “One person told me that thanks to us, her grandmother got to see her photos again before she passed away. Things like that remind me why I do this.”
24. When Rebecca took the picture of the New Orleans couple, she decided to ______.
A. take them to their temporary home B. set up shop in Pass Christian
C. fight against Hurricane Katrina D. help with their destroyed photos
25. From Paragraph 2, we know that Dave and Rebecca ______.
A. quit their jobs in 2006 B. spent four days mending the photos
C. inspired volunteers to join them D. made their work known in their newspaper
26. How did Emily Lancaster feel when she first heard about Operation Photo Rescue?
A. Doubtful. B. Satisfied. C. Excited D. Hopeless
27. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Run away from Hurricanes B. Saving Memories
C An Act of patience D. A Lucky Couple

C(新考向)
If you want to disturb the car industry, you’d better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. But in agriculture, small farmers can get the best of the major players. By connecting directly with customers, and by responding quickly to changes in the markets as well as in the ecosystems, small farmers can keep one step ahead of the big guys. As the co-founder of the National Young Farmers Coalition (美国青年农会) and a family farmer myself. I have a front-row seat to the innovations among small farmers that are transforming the industry.
For example, take the Quick Cut Greens Harvester, a tool developed just a couple of years ago by a young farmer, Jonathan Dysinger, in Tennessee, with a small loan from a local Slow Money group. It enables small-scale farmers to harvest 175 pounds of green vegetables per hour — a huge improvement over harvesting just a few dozen pounds by hand-suddenly making it possible for the little guys to compete with large farms of California. Before the tool came out, small farmers couldn’t touch the price per pound offered by California farms. But now, with the combination of a litter price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business.
The sustainable success of small farmers, though, won’t happen without fundamental changes to the industry. One crucial factor is secure access to land. Competition from investors, developers, and established large farmers makes owning one’s own land unattainable for many new farmers. From 2004 to 2013, agricultural land values doubled, and they continue to rise in many regions.
Another challenge for more than a million of the most qualified farm workers and managers is a non-existent path to citizenship — the greatest barrier to building a farm of their own. With farmers over the age of 65 outnumbering farmers younger than 35 by six to one, and with two-thirds of the nation’s farmland in need of a new farmer, we must clear the path for talented people willing to grow the nation’s food.
There are solutions that could light a path toward a more sustainable and fairer farm economy, but farmers can’t clumsily put them together before us. We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland conservation, as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. With a new farm bill to be debated in Congress, consumers must take a stand with young farmers.
28. The author mentions car industry at the beginning of the passage to introduce .
A. a trend of development in agriculture B. the importance of investing in car industry
C. the progress made in car industry D. a special feature of agriculture
29. What does the author want to illustrate with the example in paragraph 2?
A. Small farmers may gain some advantages over big ones.
B. Competition between small and big farms is fierce.
C. Technology is vital for agricultural development.
D. Loans to small local farmers are necessary.
30. What is the difficulty for those new farmers?
A. To gain more financial aid. B. To have farms of their own.
C. To hire good farm managers. D. To win old farmers’ support.
31. What should farmers do for a more sustainable and fairer farm economy?
A. Become members of NYFC. B. Seek support beyond NYFC.
C. Expand farmland conservation. D. Invest more to improve technology.

根据第一段中“If you want to disturb the car industry, you’d better have a few billion dollars: Mom-and-pop carmakers are unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. But in agriculture, small farmers can get the best of the major players. By connecting directly with customers, and by responding quickly to changes in the markets as well as in the ecosystems, small farmers can keep one step ahead of the big guys.(如果你想扰乱汽车行业,你最好有几十亿美元:小家庭汽车制造商不太可能击败最大的汽车公司。
根据第二段“For example, take the Quick Cut Greens Harvester, a tool developed just a couple of years ago by a young farmer, Jonathan Dysinger, in Tennessee, with a small loan from a local Slow Money group. But now, with the combination of a litter price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business.(例如,以“快速切割绿叶蔬菜收割机”为例,这是几年前田纳西州的一位年轻农民乔纳森·迪辛格在当地“慢钱”组织的一笔小额贷款帮助下开发的工具。 故选A。
30. 细节理解题。根据第三段中“One crucial factor is secure access to land. Competition from investors, developers, and established large farmers makes owning one’s own land unattainable for many new farmers.(一个关键因素是获得土地的安全。来自投资者、开发商和老牌大农场主的竞争使得许多新农民无法拥有自己的土地。)”可知,于那些新农民来说,不能拥有自己的农场是他们面临的困难。故选B。
31. 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland conservation, as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. With a new farm bill to be debated in Congress, consumers must take a stand with young farmers.(我们纽约农民联盟(NYFC)需要广泛的支持,因为我们敦促国会增加农田保护,推动移民改革,并寻求能确保来自各种背景的多样化且雄心勃勃的下一代农场取得成功的政策。随着一项新的农业法案将在国会进行辩论,消费者必须与年轻农民站在一起。)”可知,NYFC需要广泛的支持,包括要求国会增加农田保护,推动移民改革,寻求确保不同背景的新农民的成功的政策等,而且消费者必须与年轻农民站在一起。所以,为了保证更可持续和更公平的农业经济,农民需要寻求NYFC以外的更多方面的支持。故选B。

An article published in the scientific journal Nature discusses an important aspect of human evolution (进化). According to Bramble and Lieberman, Professors at the University of Utah, humans have a number of features that make them surprisingly good runners. “We are confident that running was important in the origin of the human body form,” says Bramble.
Traditional thinking has been that humans are poor runners compared to such animals as horses. However, this is only true if we consider running at high speed, especially over short distances. Even an athlete can hardly run as quickly as a horse does, and can only keep up a top speed for 15 seconds or so. But when it comes to long-distance running, humans will do astonishingly well. They can keep a steady pace for many kilometres, and their speed is at least at the same level with that of horses.
Bramble and Lieberman examined 26 parts of human bodies. One of the most interesting of these is the nuchal ligament (韧带). When we run, it is this ligament that prevents our head from moving back and forth or from side to side. Therefore, we are able to run with steady heads, held high. Then there are Achilles tendons (跟腱) at the backs of our legs, forming the mechanical links between the muscles to the bones. They act like strong strings and help to push us forward when we run. Besides, we have low, wide shoulders, a development which allows us to run more effectively. Add to this our light forearms, which swing in co-operation with the movement of our legs to assist balance, and one begins to appreciate the point that Bramble and Lieberman are trying to make.
But what advantage is gained from being good long-distance runners? One theory is that this ability may have permitted early humans to get food more effectively. Some scientists guess that early humans may have run after animals for great distances to make them tired before killing them. Running would also have shown another advantage: early humans might have eaten the meat left over from a kill by other large animals. They may have been warned of the existence of a freshly killed animal by vultures (秃鹰), and the faster they got to the scene of the kill, the better.
“Research on the history of human ability of running has traditionally been controversial” says Lieberman. “At the very least, I hope this theory will make many people have second thoughts about how humans learned to run and why we are built the way we are.”
32. In Paragraph 2, the author mainly tells us that ________.
A. humans are poor runners compared to horses B. humans are good runners over long distances
C. humans may run at high speed for a short time D. humans can keep the same speed when running
33. We can learn from Paragraph 3 that ________.
A. tendons are a successful adaptation for running B. strong muscles and bones keep running effective
C. the shape of shoulders affects the position of heads D. humans can run faster if they have longer forearms
34. What conclusion is drawn about early humans?
A. They followed birds to avoid danger. B. They were unable to kill large animals.
C. They developed their big brains for running. D. They evolved running due to the need for hunting.

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve been studying hard for your midterm, but when you walk into your exam, your mind goes blank, your heart races fast, you get sweaty palms and find it hard to breathe. ____35____
Everyone feels stressed during exams. Usually, it results from a fear of failure, lack of enough preparation time and bad experiences taking tests in the past. This is normal and often helps you work harder, think faster and generally improve your performance. ____36____ You may also feel that other people are managing the exam better than you. This can cause you to feel that your mind has “gone blank” on information you know you have revised.
____37____ Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don’t review because they think they will do badly anyway and even miss exams due to the anxiety. It can also be really easy to think that if you don’t try and then you fail, you won’t feel as bad as if you fail after trying really hard.
So what can you do to fight against the negative mindset and stay calm before and during your test? ____38____ Yes, this seems obvious, but it’s worth repeating. If you feel confident that you’ve prepared thoroughly, you’ll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple: just start. The blank page can maximize your anxiety. ____39____ You can always go back and change things later if needed, but a few quick answers can get the ball rolling. Besides, allocating (分配) your time is equally important. Look through the whole test before getting started. Mentally allocate how much time you’ll spend on each section. If there’s time to recheck, even better.
A. The first thing you should do is to be prepared.
B. People often deal with exam stress in many unhelpful ways.
C. If these classic signs of exam anxiety sound familiar, you’re not alone!
D. Therefore, people need an appropriate amount of pressure to help deal with exams.
E. Realizing time is almost up and that there’s still a lot of blank space will make you desperate.
F. However, if you are overly anxious about the result, you may be unable to focus on your work.
G. After you get the paper, dive right in by getting some questions done to build up your confidence.

阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。
(新语境)In a fast-paced world, where stress and mental tiredness seem commonplace, we’re constantly looking for new ways to unwind. People may carry out a variety of activities to help them relax. But what about the birdsongs or other nature sounds? Could they also help people to let go of the tensions of modern life?
According to a study by King’s College London in 2022, seeing or hearing birds could help to boost the mental wellbeing of people. Taking a trip to places rich in birdlife like parks, forests and canals and encountering birds singing to each other in the trees could even help to treat some mental health conditions. And it’s not just birds that could have a curative effect on our moods. Another study conducted by the National Trust compared the effects of woodland sounds with voiced meditation (冥想) apps. The study found listening to birdsong as well as other woodland sounds like leaves crunching underfoot or the gentle flow of a stream boosted feelings of relaxation 30% more than the apps do. Other sounds which may help to cool people down are waves lapping on the shore, gentle wind, and light rainfall.
However, not all of us live in rural surroundings, and depending on where we live, a trip to the countryside to see birds may not be an option. But could the nature sounds that originate there still help you? According to research by California Polytechnic State University, even a recording of the sounds of birds had a profound effect on people’s mood, while other studies saw people listening to soundscapes of the coast and forests with similar outcomes to their wellbeing.
So, wherever you live, you can access the wonderful sounds of birds and nature during a stroll through a wood or via some headphones. And maybe listening to the chirps, trills, warbles and whistles of some birds could help you to relax after a long, hard day.
40. What did the study by King’s College London in 2022 find?

D(社会热门)

Exam Anxiety(新语境)

If you want to disturb the car industry, you'd better have a few billion dollars:Mom-and-pop carmakers are
unlikely to beat the biggest car companies. But in agriculture, small farmers can get the best of the major players.By
connecting directly with customers, and by responding quickly to changes in the markets as well as in the ecosystems,
small farmers can keep one step ahead of the big guys.As the co-founder of the National Young Farmers Coalition
国青年农会)and a family farmer myself..I have a front-row seat to the innovations among small farmers that are
transforming the industry.
尽
For example, take the Quick Cut Greens Harvester,a tool developed just a couple of years ago by a young farmer,
:
Jonathan Dysinger,in Tennessee, with a small loan from a local Slow Money group. It enables small-scale farmers to
harvest 175 pounds of green vegetables per hour-a huge improvement over harvesting just a few dozen pounds by
hand-suddenly making it possible for the little guys to compete with large farms of California. Before the tool came
O
out, small farmers couldn't touch the price per pound offered by California farms. But now, with the combination of a
litter price point and a generally fresher product, they can stay in business.
The sustainable success of small farmers, though, won't happen without fundamental changes to the industry.
One crucial factor is secure access to land.Competition from investors, developers, and established large farmers
makes owning one's own land unattainable for many new farmers. From 2004 to 2013,agricultural land values doubled,
and they continue to rise in many regions.
Another challenge for more than a million of the most qualified farm workers and managers is a non-existent
O
path to citizenship-the greatest barrier to building a far of their own. With farmers over the age of 65 outnumbering
farmers younger than 35 by six to one,and with two-thirds of the nation's farmland in need of a new farmer,we must
clear the path for talented people willing to grow the nation's food.
There are solutions that could light a path toward a more sustainable and fairer farm economy, but farmers can't
clumsily put them together before us.We at the NYFC need broad support as we urge Congress to increase farmland
conservation,as we push for immigration reform, and as we seek policies that will ensure the success of a diverse and
ambitious next generation of farms from all backgrounds. With a new farm bill to be debated in Congress, consumers
must take a stand with young farmers.

An article published in the scientific journal Nature discusses an important aspect of human evolution ()
According to Bramble and Lieberman,Professors at the University of Utah, humans have a number of features that
make them surprisingly good runners."We are confident that running was important in the origin of the human body
fom,”says Bramble.
Traditional thinking has been that humans are poor runners compared to such animals as horses. However, this is
only true if we consider running at high speed, especially over short distances.Even an athlete can hardly run as
quickly as a horse does, and can only keep up a top speed for 15 seconds or so.But when it comes to long-distance
running, humans will do astonishingly well. They can keep a steady pace for many kilometres, and their speed is at
least at the same level with that of horses.
Bramble and Lieberman examined 26 parts of human bodies. One of the most interesting of these is the nuchal
ligament ()When we run,it is this ligament that prevents our head from moving back and forth or from side to
side. Therefore,we are able to run with steady heads, held high. Then there are Achilles tendons (at the backs
of our legs, forming the mechanical links between the muscles to the bones. They act like strong strings and help to
push us forward when we run.Besides,we have low, wide shoulders,a development which allows us to run more
effectively.Add to this our light forearms, which swing in co-operation with the movement of our legs to assist balance,
and one begins to appreciate the point that Bramble and Lieberman are trying to make.

But what advantage is gained from being good long-distance runners? One theory is that this ability may have
permitted early humans to get food more effectively. Some scientists guess that early humans may have run after
animals for great distances to make them tired before killing them.Running would also have shown another advantage:
early humans might have eaten the meat left over from a kill by other large animals. They may have been warned of
the existence of a freshly killed animal by vultures )and the faster they got to the scene of the kill, the better.
"Research on the history of human ability of running has traditionally been controversial"says Lieberman."At
the very least,I hope this theory will make many people have second thoughts about how humans learned to run and
why we are built the way we are."
32.In Paragraph 2,the author mainly tells us that
A.humans are poor runners compared to horses
B.humans are good runners over long distances
C.humans may run at high speed for a short time
D.humans can keep the same speed when running
33.We can learn from Paragraph 3 that
A.tendons are a successful adaptation for running
B.strong muscles and bones keep running effective
C.the shape of shoulders affects the position of heads D.humans can run faster if they have longer forearms
34.What conclusion is drawn about early humans?
A.They followed birds to avoid danger.

People around the world pick or harvest food that grows. Then they have a holiday. Let’s read about some harvest celebrations!
Every February, the people of Mendoza, Argentina, harvest their grapes. Then they celebrate for a month! There are parades (游行), shows, and fireworks. They always choose a Harvest Queen, too.
Chanthaburi, a town in Thailand, is famous for its tasty fruit. People celebrate the fruit at harvest time in May. The Fruit Fair begins with a parade of floats (游行彩车) made from thousands of fruits and vegetables.
The Argungu Fishing Festival began in 1934 in Nigeria, a country in Africa. It’s a four-day festival held at the end of February to celebrate the end of all farming activities. On the last day there’s a fishing contest. People have one hour to catch the largest fish. But it’s not that easy. They can only use traditional fishing tools. B(新情境)
D(社会热门)
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)

Exam Anxiety(新语境)

第一节(共4小题;第40、41题各2分,第42题3分,第43题5分,共12分)
