Unit 3 The Internet · Period 1 Listening and Speaking 教 案 · Ask about online habits | 人教版(2019)必修第二册 | 课时:1 课时(45′) 一、教材分析 本课是人教(2019)必修第二册 Unit 3 The Internet 的 Period 1 Listening and Speaking,话题为 Ask about online habits(询问上网习惯)。 How much time...? / What do you usually do...? / What’s your favourite app? 【教学难点】听辨定义策略——遇到生词不停顿,靠后文解释(it’s like / that is / for example)猜词。 Step 1 Warming up(5′) Teacher’s activities: Write the title on the board. Ask the class, “What do you usually do online?” to activate their experience. Show some social media apps and ask students to name them. Lead the reading of “blog post”, “search engine” and “stream”. Students’ activities: Students talk about their online habits with a partner, name some social media apps, and match online activities with the pictures. 1. What do you usually do online? Talk with your partner. 2. Can you name some apps of social media? 3. Match the online activities with the pictures, then tick the ones you like: write a blog post · use a search engine · chat online · stream movies and music. Before you listen, learn these words: a blog = an online diary; a search engine = a tool that helps you find information; stream = watch or listen online. Step 2 Listening for the main idea(5′) Teacher’s activities: Play the recording once. Tell students to listen only for the main idea and not to stop at new words. After listening, ask some students to complete the main-idea sentence aloud. Students’ activities: Students listen to the conversation once for the main idea and fill in the blanks. Listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks. The conversation is a survey about ____________. It includes ____________, ____________ and ____________. Step 3 Listening for details(10′) Teacher’s activities: Play the recording again for students to complete the table. Then play it a third time for the gap-filling conversation. Walk around and give hints to weaker students where names are mentioned. Students’ activities: Students listen again and complete the table, then listen a third time and fill in the blanks to complete the conversation. Activity 1 Listen again and complete the table. Name Time spent online every day Online activities Reasons for using the Internet Anna Paul Joe Activity 2 Fill in the blanks to complete the conversation. Sam: Hi, guys! I’d like to ask some questions about your online habits. First, ____________, Anna? Anna: It depends. I’d say two or three hours. Sam: How about you, Paul? / Paul: Oh, maybe about two hours. Sometimes more. What about you, Joe? Joe: Well, I think I spend at least an hour every day. Sam: ____________, Joe? Joe: I have a blog. It ____________ an online diary where you write about something you’re interested in. ____________, I like basketball, so I write a lot on my blog about my favourite team. It’s fun. Anna: I like to stream videos and music. ____________, I watch videos and listen to music online. It’s ____________. Sometimes I ____________, too. With the Internet, I can also ____________ anytime, anywhere. Paul: I usually use a search engine to ____________. A search engine is ____________ that helps you find what you’re looking for. With it, I can find all the information, videos and pictures I need for my homework. It is ____________. Step 4 Listening for definitions(8′) Teacher’s activities: Guide students to look back at the explanation sentences for “blog”, “stream” and “search engine”. Let them find out for themselves how “it’s like / that is / for example” work. Then summarize the three ways of defining words. Students’ activities: Students look back at the explanation sentences and match the words in italics with the ways they are defined. When you hear a new word, do not stop. Listen to the next sentence or two—the speaker often defines it. Definitions often begin with: “It’s like...” / “That is...” / “For example...” / “...is a tool that...” Match the words in italics with the ways they are defined. ① I have a blog. It is like an online diary... For example... ② I like to stream videos and music. That is, I watch videos and listen to music online. ③ A search engine is a tool that helps you find what you’re looking for. Way of defining Sentence Word A. Use simpler words (That is...) ② stream B. Use an example (For example...) ① blog C. Give a definition (a tool that...) ③ search engine Design notes: 本课难点就在这:让学生自己听出来 it’s like / that is / for example 是在解释生词,老师再把三种下定义的办法点一下。 Step 5 Speaking(12′) Teacher’s activities: Read the useful expressions aloud and write them on the board. Model the Wuhan example dialogue. Ask students to do pair work. Walk around, listen in, and invite two pairs to perform. Comment with the rubric. Students’ activities: Students learn the useful expressions, listen to the example dialogue, and do pair work about a one-day Wuhan trip. Useful expressions: Function Expressions Ask about time How much time do you spend online every day? / How long...? Answer time I spend ... online. / It depends. I’d say... / Maybe about... Sometimes more. Ask about activities What do you usually do online? Answer activities I stream videos and music. / I chat with my friends. / I look up information. / I write a blog post. Ask about app / give reasons What’s your favourite app? / It’s fun / cheap and easy / so helpful. / I use it to ... Example dialogue: A: How much time do you spend online every day? B: It depends. I have a blog about Wuhan street food—reganmian (hot dry noodles), doupi and mianwo. It’s fun! B: By the way, what’s your favourite app? A: ... You can: check the Yellow Crane Tower (黄鹤楼) time, book a Yangtze ferry (长江轮渡), order reganmian for breakfast, or post photos of the Yangtze light show (长江灯光秀) on your blog. Step 6 Creative thinking(5′) Teacher’s activities: Lead in: “We’ve talked about online habits. The Internet also changes our living and learning. What about future smart homes and schools?” Encourage students to imagine boldly. Invite two or three students to share. Students’ activities: Students imagine their ideal smart home and smart school and share at least 3 changes. What’s your ideal smart home and smart school? Imagine at least 3 changes in your house and school. How much time...? / What do you usually do...? / What’s your favourite app? — It’s... / I use it to... Step 2 Main idea online habits;time spent online every day;online activities;reasons for using the Internet。 Step 3 Activity 1 Table Name Time spent online every day Online activities Reasons for using the Internet Anna two or three hours stream videos and music; look up information; chat with friends cheap and easy Paul two hours or more use a search engine to find information, videos and pictures to do homework; helpful Joe at least an hour write blog posts to write something interesting Step 3 Activity 2 Blanks (in order) No. In the sentence Answer 1 First, ____, Anna? how much time do you spend online every day 2 ____, Joe?
