四、阅读理解
Every September, Senior One students at Greenwood High School face a pleasant problem: which club should they join? With more than thirty clubs, from the drama club to the debate club, the choice is never easy. For many teenagers, signing up for a club is the first important decision they make in senior high school.
Lucy, a fifteen-year-old freshman, once believed that the more clubs she joined, the better. Last term she signed up for four of them: the dancing club, the debate club, the photography club and the English corner. Soon she found herself running from one activity to another. She often felt tired in class, and her homework was left unfinished. “I felt as if I were busy all the time, but I could not remember what I had really learned,” she said.
This term Lucy has made a different choice. She quit three clubs and kept only the debate club. Now she goes there every Wednesday afternoon. “Debating teaches me how to think clearly and how to listen to others,” she says. “That is something I can use in every lesson.” Her classmates say that she has become more confident and that her spoken English has improved a lot.
Mr. Brown, who has been in charge of student clubs for ten years, gives simple advice. “A club is not a decoration on your school record,” he says. “Choose one that is suitable for your interest and your time. Two clubs that you really love are much better than five that you hardly have time for.” He also suggests that students talk with older students before they sign up, because they know what each club is really like.
Lucy agrees. “The best club is not the most famous one,” she says. “It is the one that makes you want to get up early on a Saturday morning.”

29.What does Mr. Brown advise students to do?

五、阅读七选五
Starting senior high school is an exciting but also a worrying time. New classrooms, new teachers and new classmates — everything seems different. 31 Here is some advice that may help you.
First, be brave enough to say hello. Many of your classmates feel just as nervous as you do. 32 A simple “Hi, I’m Li Hua. What’s your name?” is often enough to start a friendship that lasts for years.
Second, take part in at least one activity. Clubs and school teams are the easiest places to meet people who share your interests. 33 You do not have to join everything; one or two activities that you truly enjoy are enough.
Third, do not be afraid of making mistakes. You may get a low mark in your first English test, or you may say something silly in class. 34 What matters is that you learn from them and keep going.
Finally, talk to someone when you feel worried. Your parents, your teachers and your friends are all willing to listen. 35 Remember that almost every senior high student has gone through the same feelings, and most of them come out stronger.
A.Nobody will remember them a week later.
B.They are also looking for a friend like you.
C.Getting used to a new school takes time.
D.You can also write down your feelings in a diary.
E.So do not keep your worries to yourself.
F.Do not try to join too many of them at once.
G.The first few weeks may be the hardest.
