It all happened so quickly. I was sitting in my room with my cat, Smartie, on my lap, when the roof just flew off. All of a sudden, there was sky where the roof had been. I was so frightened that I just froze. Mom cried to get out quickly, but it was already too late by then. The rain was coming down so hard and so fast. Our street turned into a river in seconds. We were going nowhere. At first, I was pleased we could stay at home, but soon it got really tough. Without a roof, staying inside was too dangerous. There was water everywhere, but we couldn’t drink any of it otherwise we’d get really sick. We just had drinking water that was sent to us by helicopter, but it was never enough. It was August, so it was really, really hot and it smelled so bad everywhere! I just spent the days watching the boats going up and down the street and looking out for Smartie. He had disappeared the moment the storm hit. Living in the open air, we became breakfast, lunch and dinner for the mosquitos. But Mom said that whatever happens, we should always try to see the good side of things. It was difficult to stay positive, though. We had lost our home and everything in it, including Smartie. All we had left were the clothes on our backs. But as Mom kept on reminding us, we were all together and safe. Mom’s words made us feel better. I remember us all lying under the midnight sky and looking up at the stars. Because there were no lights, we could see the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper and the Milky Way. It was amazing! Even though we had lost a lot, moments like those gave us hope for the future. Although it was only a few days before we were rescued, it felt like months. We were taken to another town in a faraway county. Thankfully, Smartie came home just in time. We were so happy to take him with us, although then, none of us knew that we wouldn’t be back for quite a while. Now, one year has passed and I’m back home in New Orleans. Some families have yet to return, but many others have come back. Although we are surrounded by reminders of the disaster, we are working together to rebuild our homes and our lives. Now we have another chance to look up at the stars of New Orleans, their beauty inspiring us and giving us confidence to move on. 41. What damage did the hurricane do to the author’s family? A. Mother was injured. B. The roof flew away. C. Their cat was killed. D. Their house flew off. 42. The following are all difficulties the author experienced EXCEPT __________. A. staying in the damaged house B. the weather being hot C. not having enough drinking water D. watching the boats going up and down 43. What made the author hopeful for the future? A. A. the author has confidence to move to another place B. the stars in the sky are not as beautiful as before C. all families have been back to their home D. the new homes remain to be rebuilt 45. What is the author’s attitude towards the future home? A. Optimistic. B. Anxious. C. Depressed. D. Curious. C One of the biggest icebergs(冰山) ever recorded has just broken away from Antarctica. The giant block covers an area of about 6,000 sq km; that’s about a quarter the size of Wales, part of the United Kingdom. A US satellite observed (观察)the berg while passing over an area known as the Larsen C Ice Shelf (冰架). Researchers, who’d been following the development of a large crack(裂缝) in Larsen’s ice for more than a decade, were expecting it. The crack’s expansion had accelerated since 2014, making an upcoming calving(分离) ever more likely. The thick berg will not move very far, very fast in the short term. But it will need to be monitored(监视). Currents and winds might eventually push it north of the Antarctic where it could become a serious threat to shipping. The American space agency’s Aqua satellite noticed clear water in the crack between the shelf and the berg. The water is warmer relative to the surrounding ice and air. The event was confirmed by other spacecraft such as Europe’s Sentinel-1 satellite-radar system. The new Larsen berg is probably in the top 10 biggest ever recorded. The largest observed in the satellite era was an object called B-15. It came away from the Ross Ice Shelf in 2000 and measured some 11,000 sq km. Sixe years later, parts of this super-berg still existed and passed by New Zealand. In 1956, it was reported that a US Navy icebreaker had met with an object of roughly 32,000 sq km. That’s bigger than Belgium. Unfortunately, there were no satellites at the time to follow up and confirm the observation. The Larsen C Ice Shelf has been known to produce bigger bergs. An object measuring some 9,000 sq km came away in 1986. Many of Larsen’s bergs can enter the Weddell sea or can follow currents into the Southern Ocean, and even into the South Atlantic. A good number of bergs from this shelf can end up being caught on the shallow continental shelf around the British overseas area of South Georgia where they gradually fade away. 46. How did researchers view the appearance of the new Larsen berg? A. It needed to be confirmed. B. It was smaller than expected. C. It came as no surprise. D. It was formed within a very short time. 47. What will researchers most probably do next? A. Study the satellite-radar system. B. Keep a close eye on the new iceberg. C. Try to find the cause of the calving. D. Focus on the clear water in the crack. 48. How was B-15 different from the iceberg discovered in 1956? A. B-15 was much bigger. B. B-15 was discovered earlier. C. B-15 was noticed by the satellite D. B-15 was founded by a navy icebreaker. 49. Why does the author mention the iceberg formed in 1986? A. To give an example of Larsen’s bergs. B. To compare it with the new berg. C. To show where Larsen’s bergs often go. D. To explain why Larsen produces big bergs. 50. What can be the best title for the text? A. The secret behind the phenomenon of calving. B. Larsen C Ice Shelf needs more attention. C. Some of the biggest bergs ever recorded. D. Giant iceberg breaks away from Antarctica. D Trust as explained in Wikepedia (维基百科) is the feeling of being sure someone or something can be relied upon. Trust is a big topic in many people’s lives. It produces an emotional feeling that is tied to the core of a person’s very existence. Why do we want to break anyone’s trust? Why does this happen over and over again? It may arise from pride, control, dislikes, a difference of opinion and misunderstandings. Perhaps when you are living your life without self-worth and self-love then you are living your life in a continual state of negative thoughts and feelings. What you feel inside is evident by what you do and what you say. When you shift your energy within yourself and find your place of love and worth then your view of this world will change for the better. This energy shift towards the positive will shift everything that you think, say and do. Being kind to yourself projects outward to the world by being kind and good to others. This projection is the outcome of this positive energy shift. Our true self is one of love and feeling worthy of all of the goodness and happiness. We have a tendency to look outside of ourselves for content when this feeling of content can be found within ourselves. The answers to our questions about life and love are within us. Sometimes we need to give ourselves a break and to be most loving, most kind and most patient with us. Care for and love yourself to find the joy within. The love and peace of this world is in each and every one of us. Meditation (沉思) can bridge that trust that we can have in ourselves. Then we can have more trust in the world and in others. When everything around us is breaking up meditation can help to keep us centered so we can find that deep connection of love and worthiness. That is your true self wanting to shine through. We can’t control anything else but we can control what we do. When you choose to help yourself then you choose to trust yourself. Trust can lead us to a life of peace and love and fulfillment. The world has its own programs. Trust in love and peace and live your life like you mean it! 51. The first paragraph serves as a(n) ________. A. background B. comparison C. explanation D. comment 52. If you want to have a positive life attitude, you should ________. A. save your inside energy to create positive things B. find a place where you’ll be respected C. make sure what you truly want to do and say D. try to show your true self naturally and continuously 53. When you fail or feel disappointed you should ________. A. stop and adjust yourself B. continue to work even harder C. reduce the degree of your feeling of content D. try to fully recognize your own fault 54. Based on this text meditation might make us ________. A. modest when we achieve something B. move from mistrust to trust C. live a meaningful and unchangeable life D. control ourselves successfully as well as the outside world 55. By writing this text the author wants to________. A. encourage us to trust ourselves B. teach us how to deal with negative energy C. explain what love and worth are D. show the importance of meditation 第II卷(满分35分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5个小题,每小题2分,满分10分) My family and I belonged to a country club located across the street from the Long Island Sound. Each summer, the big attraction for us was the pool. I learned how to swim and joined the swimming team but was never really a good swimmer. However, swimming in my younger days was a way to keep cool, and swimming on a team gave me identity and a sense of belonging. It also became invaluable many years later. Fast-forward (快进) to 1973 — I was married, pregnant and had a home. What made our little home even more wonderful was when I discovered that four blocks away was Rath Park Pool! For the next 30 years, most of our summer days were spent around that pool. Each of my five kids took swimming lessons and learned all the different swimming strokes (姿势). They later joined the swim team and competed in meets. My daughter even became a lifeguard at the town pool. I sat back and happily took it all in! As much as I would have liked to have life stand still, it doesn’t. My children outgrew their pool days and moved on. But the pool was still four blocks from my home, so I began to take up swimming again. And it was far better than I ever could have imagined. I got so much out of it that I joined the local pool so I could swim year-round. Whenever I swam, I would always come out feeling physically and mentally refreshed. I often felt that if I looked hard enough, I would be able to see all of the worries and problems I’ve had in life, sitting at the bottom of the pool! What has swimming taught me? I’ve learned that balance is the key to being a good swimmer. If you are balanced in the water, you have no resistance. Working on staying balanced made me realize the similarities between life in and out of the swim lane (泳道). If you work on keeping yourself balanced, you will be able to swim right through the stress and problems life throws at you! 56. A. 【答案】46. C 47. B 48. C 49. A 50. D 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了自然现象——巨大的冰山脱离了南极洲。 【46题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Researchers, who’d been following the development of a large crack(裂缝) in Larsen’s ice for more than a decade, were expecting it. ”(十多年来,研究人员一直在跟踪拉森冰川上的一条大裂缝的发展,他们预计会出现这种情况)可知,研究人员认为Larsen berg的出现并不令人意外,故选C。 【47题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“The thick berg will not move very far, very fast in the short term. But it will need to be monitored(监视). ”(短时间内,厚冰山不会移动得很远,也不会移动得很快。但它需要被监控)可知,研究人员接下来最有可能密切关注新冰山,故选B。 【48题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“The largest observed in the satellite era was an object called B-15. (卫星时代观测到的最大天体是一个叫做B-15)”和“In 1956, it was reported that a US Navy icebreaker had met with an object of roughly 32,000 sq km. That’s bigger than Belgium. Unfortunately, there were no satellites at the time to follow up and confirm the observation.”(1956年,据报道,一艘美国海军破冰船遇到了一个面积约32000平方公里的物体。比比利时还大。不幸的是,当时没有卫星跟踪和确认观测结果)可知,B-15和1956发现的冰川的不同之处,B-15被卫星记录下来了。故选C。 【49题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“An object measuring some 9,000 sq km came away in 1986. Many of Larsen’s bergs can enter the Weddell sea or can follow currents into the Southern Ocean, and even into the South Atlantic. A good number of bergs from this shelf can end up being caught on the shallow continental shelf around the British overseas area of South Georgia where they gradually fade away.”(1986年,一个面积约9000平方公里的物体消失了。 通读全文尤其是第一段中心句“One of the biggest icebergs(冰山) ever recorded has just broken away from Antarctica. ”(有记录以来最大的冰山之一刚刚从南极洲脱离)可知,文章介绍巨大的冰山脱离了南极洲。因此本文的最佳标题为“巨大的冰山脱离了南极洲”。故选D。 【点睛】 D Trust as explained in Wikepedia (维基百科) is the feeling of being sure someone or something can be relied upon. 56.
