Science can’t explain the power of pets, but many studies 1 (show) that the company of pets can help lower blood pressure and raise chances of recovering from a heart attack, reduce loneliness and spread all-round good cheer.
Any owner will tell you 2 a comfortable life they live with a pet. For some, an animal provides more comfort than a husband/wife. A 2002 study by Karen Allen of the State University of New York 3 (measure) stress levels and blood pressure in people — half of them pet owners — while they performed 5 minutes of mental arithmetic (心算) or held a hand in ice water. Subjects (受试对象) completed the tasks alone, with a husband/ wife, a close friend or with a pet. People with pets did it best. Those tested with their animal friends had 4 (small) change in blood pressure and returned most quickly to baseline heart rates. With pets in the room, people also made fewer maths mistakes than when doing in front of other companions It seems that people feel more relaxed around pets, says Allen, 5 thinks it may be because pets don’t judge.
A study reported last fall suggests that 6 (have) a pet dog not only raises your spirits but may also have an effect on your eating habits. Researchers at Northwestern Memorial Hospital spent a year 7 (study) 36 fat people and their equally fat dogs on diet-and-exercise programmes; a separate group of 56 people 8 pets were put on a diet programme as controls (对照组). On average, people lost about 11 pounds, or 5% of their body weight. Their dogs did even better, 9 (lose) an average of 12 pounds, more than 15% of their body weight. Researchers say dog owners didn’t lose any more weight than those without dogs, 10 they got more exercise overall — mostly with their dogs — and found it worth doing.

We ate fresh vegetables and fruit, and, starting in our teenage years, 1 (drink) a glass of red wine. We ate together. I enjoyed a few slices of prosciutto and practised a wide variety of outdoor sports. The mindbending ‘cyberpunk city’ in China that exists on so many levels
When visiting Chongqing for the first time last November, Joshua Guvi was worried that the city he’d seen on social media couldn’t possibly be as cool in real life.
Located in a mountainous area of southwestern China, this city is known for 1 complex, multilayered layout (布局), causing some 2 (refer) to it as China’s “8D city.” Including its rural outer regions, the whole area is the size of Austria. 3 the city’s unique geography and rapid growth, Chongqing has had nowhere to go but up, to the point 4 one building even has a train running through the middle of it.
For tourists — and even some locals — getting lost in winding, eye-popping Chongqing is part of the fun. “It actually shot a lot over my expectations,” says Guvi, a travel content creator from Canada.
These moments 5 (sew) together into a video on Guvi’s YouTube channel. He wrote, “Chongqing feels like peering into the future. This city has its own pulse.” Guvi began his trip in Shanghai, 6 he wanted to experience a more authentically Chinese city.
“I had heard some people talk about Chongqing in Shanghai… Shanghai is a(n) 7 (amaze) city, but I was curious to see more of the actual China, versus kind of the Shanghai where you can still get by on English.”
He isn’t the only one who has been bypassing Beijing, Xi’an and other cities along the established Chinese tourist route in favor of Chongqing. Tourism in Chongqing has been skyrocketing 8 the country reopened post-pandemic.
According to data 9 (release) by the Chongqing government, the city welcomed about 1.3 million inbound tourists in 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 184%. In the first two months of 2025, the number of foreign nationals entering through the city’s ports increased by 60%. In fact, American tourists have seen 10 noticeable increase. That’s especially impressive considering there that the sole direct flight from the US to Chongqing is a once-a-week affair on Hainan Airlines. We have to say the outlook for inbound tourism is very promising.

话题2 人与社会(共6篇)
Passage 1
(25-26高一上·上海·期中)Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
Increasingly, many 1 (variety) of phrases have been taking over a good old-fashioned “thank you” or “you’re welcome” in daily conversations in the United States. When Americans are 2 (dine) at a restaurant and a waiter comes by to ask them 3 they would like more water or bread, do you notice that they often say “I’m good” rather than “no, thank you”? When someone thanks them for holding the door open, “no problem” is almost the same response as “you’re welcome”.
Does this mean that we no longer make any effort 4 (be) polite? Are Americans becoming ruder, abandoning traditional polite phrases, or are the words that they use now just updated versions of the same emotion? According to Lisa Gache, co-founder of Beverly Hills Manners, the decline of these magic words in our everyday conversation is 5 (relate) to the preference for all things casual in our society today. Casual conversation, casual dress and casual behaviour are present in all areas of life.
And there is little 6 (doubtful) that Americans agree with her. A survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports revealed that 76 percent of those surveyed thought that Americans were becoming “ruder and 7 (civil)”.
But is using phrases like “no problem” or “you bet” or “enjoy” really rude? Does more casual phrasing 8 (reflection) less gratitude? Doesn’t “no, thank you” sometimes sound a little too formal, perhaps even a little too harsh (刺耳的) when it begins with a “no”?
Emily Post, whose great-great-grandmother set the standard on manners with the book Etiquette, thought that 9 the principles of respect and consideration are “universal and timeless”, actual manners vary over time and between cultures, so do the words used to express gratitude and appreciation.
It’s probably not a bad idea 10 (remember) to say “please” and “thank you”, but don’t beat yourself up thinking you’re a horrible person if you say “have a good one” instead of “have a nice day”.
【答案】
1.varieties 2.dining 3.whether/if 4.to be 5.related 6.doubt 7.less civil 8.reflect 9.while/though/although 10.to remember
故填if/whether。

空格前后为转折让步关系,所以用连词while/though/although引导让步状语从句。故填while/though/although。
10.考查非谓语动词。句意:记住说“请”和“谢谢”可能不是一个坏主意,但如果你说“祝你愉快”而不是“祝你今天愉快”,不要自责认为自己是个糟糕的人。It’s not a bad idea to do sth.为固定句型,It作形式主语,真正的主语是后面的动词不定式。故填to remember。
Passage 2
(25-26高一上·上海·阶段检测)Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word;for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
The Problem With Overly Helpful Friends
Tying knots looks easy. You just bend (使弯曲) the rope this way, twist (拧) it that way, pull, and you’re done. Yet there are dozens, if not hundreds, of different kinds of knots, each demanding a unique sequence (顺序) of bends, twists and pulls that you must memorize. For a novice (新手), memorizing them is challenging. 1 is why my mountaineering instructor required each of us students to repeatedly practice the “figure-eight follow-through” and the “alpine butterfly.”
One student, who had already learned all the knots long before, could not resist telling me which way to bend, which way to twist, and which way to pull. If we had been climbing a mountain with dangerous cliffs (悬崖) below us, I probably would have welcomed his help. But here, learning was the goal: I was grateful when the teacher 2 (silence) him. I needed to exercise my own memory, 3 it meant moving slowly.
Actually, even if we had been approaching the top of the mountain, it would have been better for me 4 (tie) my own knots. When you understand everything that you do, you become more competition and enjoy activities more. This is obvious in sports like climbing, where mastering skills is part of the pleasure, but it holds truer in almost every pursuit.
Herein lies the danger of generative AI. These tools are like the overly helpful friends who think they know everything. Quite often, we 5 (tempt) to ask for AI’s help with everything we do. Lately, 6 I talk with my friends about something I’m uncertain about, they say, “Ask ChatGPT” or “Ask DeepSeek.” However, a big problem with these tools is 7 they sometimes give wrong or incomplete information. (Presumably they will continue to improve, though.)
An even deeper peril (危险) is that habitually 8 (rely) on AI tools will take the Eage off your thinking. A recent study by scientists from MI suggested that over-reliance on AI tools can lead 9 intellectual (思维的) laziness. And that could have consequences. If you do not engage in your own research, it will be harder for you to distinguish truth from falsehood. If you do not synthesize(综合) information on your own, you will lose the ability to think independently. From tying knots to writing essays, 10 pays off to use your own head.

1.This/That 2.silenced 3.though/although 4.to tie 5.are tempted 6.whenever 7.that 8.relying 9.to 10.it

Adults are often ashamed to ask for help. Seeking someone’s help can make you feel like you 1 (broadcast) your inability. New research suggests young children don’t seek help in school for the same reason.
Kayla Good, a graduate student at Stanford University, and Alex Shaw, 2 associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, applied a classic technique to learn more about 3 children think about reputation: Across several studies, they asked 576 children aged four to nine, 4 (predict) the behavior of two characters, Tom and Jack, in a story. Tom genuinely wanted to be smart, and Jack only wanted to seem smart to others. In one study, they told children both characters did poorly on a test, and asked which of them would be 5 (likely) to raise their hands in front of their class to ask the teacher for help.
The four-year-olds were equally likely to choose 6 of the two characters as the one who would seek help. But by age seven or eight, children thought Jack would be less likely to ask for help. And children’s expectations were truly “reputational” in nature — they were specially thinking about how the characters would act in front of peers. They could still imagine situations 7 Jack would seek help: when it could 8 (seek) privately (on a computer rather than in person), children thought both characters were equally likely to ask for it.
Given the findings, it seems quite possible 9 when children themselves are the ones struggling, they, too, might avoid seeking out help if they are concerned about reputation. So, the unwillingness to seek help when others are present could clearly hold back learning progress. To improve in any field, one must work hard, take on challenging tasks, and ask questions. However, the situation can be difficult when someone is concerned about their impressions 10 others.

A new study from the University of Japan has confirmed that although pet cats are more than capable of recognizing their owner’s voice, they choose to ignore them — for reasons that 1 (root) in the evolutionary history of the animal. The study tested twenty housecats in their own homes, waiting until the owner was out of sight and then playing them recordings of three strangers calling their names, followed by their owner and 2 stranger.
When hearing their names 3 (call), the cats displayed “orientating behavior” (moving their heads and ears about to locate 4 the sound was coming from) and 5 they showed a greater response to their owner’s voices than strangers’, they declined to move when called by any of the volunteers. “This cat-owner relationship is in contrast 6 that with dogs.”
The study suggests that the reason for cats’ unresponsive behaviour 7 be traced back to the early domestication of the species, contrasting with the relationship of humans to dogs.
Recent genetic analysis 8 (reveal) that the common ancestor of the modern housecat was Felis silvestris, a species of wildcat 9 first came into contact with humans around 9,000 years ago. “Historically speaking, cats, unlike dogs, have not been domesticated to obey humans’ orders. Rather, they seem to take the initiative in human-cat interaction.” This is what differs from the history of dogs and humans, where the former 10 (breed) over thousands of years to respond to orders and commands. Cats, it seems, never needed to learn.

Life on Mars
Mars fascinates people all around the world. The Red Planet has been studied by astronomers and scientists for hundreds of years. Perhaps it is Mars’s similarity to Earth 1 gets people so excited. The surface of the planet is covered by features that are very familiar to human eyes: volcanoes, valleys and huge deserts. Like Earth, Mars also has ice caps at the poles.
All these similarities have encouraged a belief in “Martians”. In the early twentieth century some people even claimed that we were being watched by aliens, and that they planned to invade or destroy Earth. By the time the first missions reached Mars in the 1970s, hundreds of books and films 2 (produce) describing what the aliens and their world looked like. To the excitement of scientists and the public, robot vehicles were sent 3 (explore) the surface of the planet. People held their breath and waited to see the first images of an alien world. They believed that the pictures 4 (show) evidence of life. Yet, the pictures the robots sent back were disappointing. They showed 5 empty and barren landscape. Most people were convinced that Mars must be a dead planet, and that any life there ended millions of years ago.
However, mankind will not give up on Mars. Recently, NASA 6 (announce) that plans are being made to send a manned mission to Mars by the year 2035. Other space programmes in Europe and Asia also want to explore the planet further, hoping to learn more about the universe and the future of Earth.
Some people are 7 the Mars programmes. They claim that a huge amount of money is going to be wasted on the mission, money that could be spent on other projects 8 (close) to the earth, like housing and feeding people. In reply, space scientists stress that the benefits of studying Mars are undeniable. In fifty years, more of Earth’s natural resources 9 (use) up or destroyed. The study of Mars 10 provide vital clues about how to ensure a better future for our own planet.

How Old Wind Turbines Could Become Tiny Homes
“Rubbish is immortal (永生的),” wrote Czech author Ivan Klima in his novel Love and Garbage. “What else is there 1 is so indestructible?”
And even as we make the world into a greener place by embracing renewable energy, the problem of how to deal with waste 2 (remain) a difficult one to solve. The thing is, renewable energy tools like wind turbines (风力涡轮机) do a lot of good, but they also need 3 (recycle) and replacement is necessary when they get old. Many of the parts can be melted down and used again, but this comes at a cost to the environment, 4 the process produces carbon emissions.
Luckily, experts have been working on ways to use these giant turbines again at the end of their lives. Old blades 5 (use) as noise barriers next to roads, as bike sheds, and as children’s playground equipment 6 kids can climb, slide, and explore in a safe, eco-friendly space, turning once-discarded industrial parts into places of joy and activity. And some of the stems — or nacelles (短舱), as the parts that contain the engines are known — have even been used for housing.
Last year, a Swedish energy company called Vattenfall and Dutch firm Blade-Made worked together to create a tiny home made from a decommissioned turbine. Shown during Dutch Design Week in 2024, it 7 (measure) 4 meters wide, 10 meters long and three meters high and according to CNN is “surprisingly light and airy” 8 the glass doors at either end. Crucially, it was also compliant (符合的) with Dutch building rules.
But with more and more turbines 9 (expect) to be replaced in the coming years, could they really help to solve housing crises?
Jos de Krieger is a co-founder of Blade-Made, and he says: why not? His company, along with its collaborators, is planning to create 10 tiny homes using turbines. He told CNN that making old turbines into homes is “ 10 (complex) thing you can do” but now it has been done, anything is possible. “We need solutions,” he said, adding that he wants to “create stories, instead of waste.”
Klima would surely approve.

Pushing past her limits
At 11:31 am on July 18, I reached the summit of Mount Muztagh Ata in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Standing at 7,546 meters at the age of 18, I earned the title of National Mountaineering Athlete. As I stood there, tears unexpectedly streamed down my face.
Our team consisted of 17 people, including seven coaches. We started the climb at 3 am, making our way up in freezing temperatures. With the shortage of oxygen, every step was a struggle-my head throbbed (阵痛) with pain and my stomach churned (翻腾). I felt 1 I was on the verge of fainting. 2 a lack of appetite, I forced myself to eat something. My feet were swollen, and I could hardly feel 3 .
After nearly three hours of struggle, the sun began to rise from behind the mountain, casting a warm glow on the snow. For a moment, I felt 4 (renew). I tried to take out my snow goggles, but I was too weak, and my coach had to help me. Feeling exhausted, I told my coach I wanted to slow down, but he noticed my nose was freezing and my lips were stiff. He warned me that if I didn’t keep moving, the cold 5 cause me to get sick, making it impossible to reach the summit. I immediately regained my focus and pushed myself to move 6 (fast).
I was the last team member 7 (reach) the top, and though my teammates cheered me on, I was too tired to respond. The view was beautiful, but I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even appreciate it. My mind went numb, and every step during the final stretch seemed like a battle. But finally, I reached the peak. I sat down on a rock, dizzy and crying.
Crying at that moment wasn’t just about the physical pain. It was a release of all the emotions I 8 (bottle up). It was a mix of exhaustion, awe for nature, and a sense of connection with the mountain. I was also proud of myself for making it to the top.
When I returned to the busy city, surrounded by the noise of cars and crowds, I found myself missing the quiet world of the mountains. I missed the cold, damp sleeping bags, the faint nausea from the lack of food, and the stars and moon 9 (hang) over us in the early hours. It was only in that stillness 10 I truly appreciated the beauty of the mountains.

Into China’s Wild West
I was born in Lanzhou, Gansu province. My family and I moved to France when I was six years old. Since then, Gansu has become the remote, mysterious land of my ancestors. Even though I come back to visit every year, I still wonder 1 the people there live, what they eat, and if I can still be considered one of them.
Last year, I returned to the city for the Lunar New Year celebration. My favorite downtown noodle shop was already crowded at 7 a.m. I saw a five-year-old girl having breakfast with her mother at one table. At 2 table, a street cleaner in an orange outfit was calmly finishing his bowl next to a well-dressed businessman. Their lives 3 be worlds apart, yet here they share the same daily breakfast.
Aside from the delicious noodles, most tourists will visit Dunhuang, a city famous for its ancient Buddhist grottoes and murals (佛教石窟和壁画). I took my first trip there in January 2023. The unique beauty of northwestern China became increasingly easy to see 4 I drove farther from Lanzhou. The barren (荒芜的) hills and open spaces seemed 5 (stretch) out forever, covered in a thin layer of snow that sparkled under the winter sun. I found myself impressed by the raw beauty of the vast land in front of me. Gansu felt so real.
When I finally reached Dunhuang eight hours later, the temperatures 6 (drop) well below zero. The famous Mogao Caves demonstrate the rich cultural and spiritual exchanges that took place along the ancient Silk Road. 8 the amazing cultural heritage in Dunhuang, Gansu is not the most attractive place to live. It is largely a no-man’s land 9 (trouble) by droughts and sandstorms, but I am still proud of being born there. The memories of my childhood, the stories of my ancestors, and the rich culture of Gansu have created in me a sense of 10 (belong). It is where I truly feel at home.

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·上海·期中)Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
Passage 2
(24-25高一上·上海·期中)Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
When I was a child my family would always sit down together for meals. My favourite was among the simplest: spaghetti pomodoro, pasta in tomato sauce. We ate fresh vegetables and fruit, and, starting in our teenage years, 1 (drink) a glass of red wine. We ate together. I enjoyed a few slices of prosciutto and practised a wide variety of outdoor sports. This centuries-old Mediterranean(地中海) diet kept me fit, 2 turned out to be good not just my personal well-being, but for the planet’s health too.
In 2020 we will celebrate 3 tenth anniversary of UNESCO’s designation (指定) of this Mediterranean diet as a “Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. But unfortunately, Italians 4 (turn) away from their traditional healthy diet. We have started to eat more fast food and have increased our portions. 5 (few) Italians enjoy social meals with family and friends. Italian children were 6 the most overweight in a recent study of 30 countries by the WHO.
Poor nutrition is a global problem, not just an Italian one. The fact that it’s hitting Italy, the land 7 the Mediterranean diet originated, represents a dangerous contradiction-- one of many affecting the world of food. After years of decline, hunger is back on the rise. Globally, some 821 million people still do not have enough 8 (eat). Yet 9 the poor south hungers, the rich north gorges: some 2 billion people are overweight. We waste one-third of global food production. Livestock consume an estimated two-thirds of all the land that 10 (devote) to agriculture and contribute about half of farming-related greenhouse-gas emissions.

Ashley’s mother bought her a computer when she was eight. 1 she was thirteen, she was surfing the Internet a lot, but she could not find anywhere for teenagers to meet and talk. And one day she thought, “If I had my own website, I’d make it a really interesting site for teenagers.”
So, when Ashley was sixteen, she launched her own website, which 2 (call) Goosehead. 3 she was very young, she managed a team of about 30 employees while the site was getting 100,000 hits every day. “I was so happy, but it was also crazy in a lot of ways,” she recalls. “I got very stressed, as I was only sixteen and didn’t even have a car!”
After a few years, the website closed down. Then Ashley, who lives in Los Angeles, 4 (ask) to write a book called The Goosehead Guide to Life. The book is about 5 to design a website and start a business. It begins with a section called All About Ashley, 6 Ashley tells readers what it’s like to be the boss of a company when they’re only sixteen. In her book, Ashley talks about the problems facing teenagers today, and about the importance of friendship, but also about being independent. “Learn to love your friends but not rely on them. I did that by 7 (create) Goosehead on my own.”
Ashley says that The Goosehead Guide to Life is not a book of teenage advice. “It isn’t a book that’s going to tell you what to do. I hope you can work that out for 8 ” she says. “I just want to provide a little inspiration to teenagers. In the last few years, I 9 (receive) thousands of emails from those who have read my story. Maybe after reading my story, you 10 (launch) your own website. But perhaps you’ve got a better idea? Well, if I were you, I’d just do it, whatever it is. Maybe it won’t work but maybe it will!”
Passage 4
(25-26高一上·上海·期中)Pushing past her limits

My Unforgettable Semester in Florence
Before I arrived in Florence, I knew that my time at the university 1 (be) special. The way of learning, which was very different from 2 I knew back home, gave students more freedom, and I soon learned that I would take oral exams for my literature classes 3 a written test. 4 these talks were challenging, they helped me improve my Italian more than I had expected.
The whole city became our classroom. Some of our classes 5 (hold) inside the famous Uffizi Gallery. 6 (walk) past the long lines of tourists every day felt like having a special key to the city. The beauty of the art 7 surrounded us in those old buildings was felt by every student in our program. It was one of 8 (valuable) experiences of my entire time abroad.
After class, my friends and I loved to explore. We would find little cafes in narrow streets and taste amazing Italian food. In the evenings, we often 9 (climb) up to Piazzale Michelangelo. From there, we 10 see all the red roofs, the river flowing through the city, and the great dome of the cathedral. We spent many hours there talking and watching the breathtaking sunset.
My time in Florence, which taught me so much more than just books, was an adventure that I will carry in my heart forever.

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·上海·期中)Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

Sora: OpenAl will now let you create videos from verbal cues
Artificial intelligence leader OpenAI introduced a new AI model 1 (call) Sora which it claims 2 create “realistic” and “imaginative” 60-second videos from quick text instructions. In a blog posted on Wednesday, the company said Sora is capable of 3 (generate) videos up to 60 seconds in length from text instructions, serving up scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and detailed background details.
This is 4 (late) effort from the company behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT, 5 continues to push the generative AI movement forward. 6 “multi-modal models” are not new and text-to-video models already exist, what sets this apart is the length and accuracy that OpenAI claims Sora to have, according to Reece Hayden. Hayden said these types of AI models can have a big impact 7 digital entertainment.
Sora 8 (make) available to online security professors soon in order to assess the product for harms or risks. It is also granting access to 9 number of visual artists, designers and filmmakers to collect feedback on 10 creative professionals could use it.

Macau draws tourists from every corner of the world with its excellent food, outstanding architecture, history and dynamic culture. This small city in southeast China, recognized as a “Creative City of Gastronomy” by UNESCO, 1 (offer) a lot for visitors to experience.
If you are unsure about what sightseeing spots to explore, start with the St. Paul Ruins and Senado Square, 2 are the most famous landmarks and the most photographed places in the city and must-sees for those 3 (visit) Macau for the first time. From there, follow your inner sense and be adventurous, and Macau will reward you 4 its true beauty and hidden spots. And don’t hesitate to taste the local street food you will find on the way.
Macau’s integration (融合) of diverse cultures 5 (reflect) in its numerous churches and temples, which 6 most of the landmarks in town, don’t charge for the entry. So, feel free to walk in and discover.
No trip to Macau would be complete without taking 7 tour of the historical Taipa. The picturesque 8 (street) of Taipa Village are filled with 9 (vivid) colored houses, stunning churches, ancient temples and traditional Chinese shops. 10 (experience) a taste of Macanese bites and treats, just eat and drink your way around. You’ll never get stuck for ideas on where to dine at Taipa Village!

Ethnie vloggers popularize highs and lows of rural life
Uyinga 1 (share) videos about the daily life of her family living on grassland in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region on social media for the past six years. 2 learning about herdsmen’s daily routines such as grazing livestock and cooking traditional Mongolian food through the videos, viewers can observe the 3 (stun) scenery of the grassland 4 listening to the sound of the wind blowing.
“I don’t have any scripts. I just record the herdsmen’s normal life on the grassland in Xi Ujimchin Banner. And I think that’s the reason why people like them,” Uyinga, from the Mongolian ethnic group, said.
In her latest videos, her family 5 (see) busily cutting grass in September that 6 (start) to turn yellow, and then storing it to feed livestock in the winter.
“ 7 you can see, the grassland isn’t always green. Its beauty varies in different seasons,” the 29-year-old says in the video. “And we 8 get certain things done before winter comes, such as cutting the grass. As herdsmen, we have learned to respect nature and follow the rules of the grassland.”
Uyinga said she hopes the videos she has posted on social media can help more people gain insights into the life of herdsmen and bring members of different ethnic groups 9 (close). She’s also glad to see that more young women from the Inner Mongolia, Xizang and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions have started to share their stories about the beautiful pastures on social media. Their simple 10 colorful lifestyles have become increasingly popular in recent years with many people yearning to escape the grind of life in the country’s major cities, she said.

I marveled at the countless frescoes (壁画) and statues 7 keep alive the stories of ancient pilgrims (朝圣者). The contrast between the cold, empty landscape surrounding Dunhuang and the colorful sacredness (神圣) of the caves was striking.
