B Passionate about the environment since a young age, Sophie Weenink organized her first official environmental protection event at age 13. It was a beach cleanup she posted on her social media. She thought she might get ten people at most, but 200 showed up. The community’s support has driven her ambition for change. Since then, Sophie has organized large events on a zero budget. One of Sophie’s major hopes for the future is that we can preserve all our beautiful environments. She thinks people often take what we have in our country for granted. A trip overseas can make us realize how beautiful it is here and why we must fight to protect our environment. Sophie’s decision to become heavily involved in Giving Aroha, a volunteer-based organization, was made during her river cleanup. She found a tent and sleeping bags belonging to people living in difficult conditions. This shocking discovery and the sad realisation that some people were forced to live this way inspired Sophie to find ways to help the homeless. Since then, she has fundraised thousands of dollars to this organisation. Sophie says the housing crisis and climate change are major problems today. Through her work, she has tried to make an impact by finding solutions. However, as these are huge issues, she says it helps to find a community of people who also want to make a change. As a group, it is much easier to create collective change. But one person can also make a big impact by educating others. It helps us understand why we need to make a change and inspire them to make a difference rather than leaving it to future generations. Sophie says being passionate and strong about what we’re doing is crucial. People often look to others taking the first step. They may want to act, but obstacles like lack of time or experience stop them. For those who want to start taking action, she says just start small, doing grass root actions in our personal life or community. 24. How might Sophie feel about her first beach clean-up experience? A. Encouraged. B. Disappointed. C. Puzzled. D. Concerned. 25. What led Sophie to get involved in Giving Aroha? A. Her trip overseas. B. Her camping experience. C. The support of the community. D. The encounter with shelterless people. 26. Which of the following best describes Sophie Weenink? A. Ambitious and enthusiastic. B. Humorous and intelligent. C. Brave and generous. D. Cautious and creative. 27. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Giving Aroha: A Shelter for the Homeless B. Sophie Weenink: From Passion to Action C. Environmental Protection: Everyone Counts D. Education: The Best Way to Make a Difference C Can music help you concentrate at work? Researchers from the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff conducted a new study, and it has some interesting results. The research examined the ability of 25 people, aged 18 to 30, to remember information while listening to various sounds. In one task they had to remember a list of eight consonant (辅音) letters, which were dictated to them. Participants in the study were tested under three different conditions: in a quiet environment, while listening to music they liked, and while listening to music they didn’t like. The participants generally did better when they were working in silence. The background music seemed to make memorization and recall more difficult. However, scientists also found that listening to music before doing the tests seemed to help concentration. “Despite describing their self-selected music as more pleasant, their performance was poor, just as it was when they listened to music they disliked,” explained one of the researchers. So, even if you’re listening to music you like, it’ll still interfere with your work. This would appear to contradict the findings of scientists who have researched what is popularly known as the “Mozart Effect”. This concept was invented by French scientist Dr. Alfred A. Tomatitis in 1991. Tomatitis published a book, Why Mozart?, which described what he believed were the healing powers of listening to Mozart’s music. He also suggested that Mozart’s music could aid brain development. Later studies indicated it might enhance children’s spatial intelligence, leading to a widespread belief that classical music could boost a child’s IQ. The governor of the state of Georgia even once advocated allocating over $100,000 annually to supply classical CDs to every newborn in the state. Another study seemed to further contradict the idea that music could help with concentration. The researchers found that surveyed university students mostly preferred studying in silence. Those listening to music preferred instrumental songs, saying that lyrics are distracting. So, if you’re studying for an exam, turn off your music! 28. Under which condition did participants perform best in the University of Wales study? A. Prior exposure to music. B. Listening to disliked music. C. Working in silence. D. Listening to favorite music. 29. What is suggested about the impact of the “Mozart Effect”? A. It has led to some real-world practices. B. It has been proven to enhance adult intelligence. C. It mainly promotes the enjoyment of classical music. D. It originates from governmental educational policies. 30. What is paragraph 7 mainly about? A. Lyrics distract more than tunes. B. Instrumental music aids concentration. C. Students’ music tastes vary widely. D. Quiet is often preferred for study. 31. What can be inferred about background music? A. It best aids creative work. B. Its effects are inconsistent across studies. C. It improves performance in concentration tasks. D. It affects people differently based on preference. D Being an information technology, or IT, worker is not a job I envy. They are the ones expected to instantly fix a projector that stops working, even right in the middle of a critical meeting. They have to tolerate the bad mood of colleagues who are upset after calling the help desk repeatedly for the same issue. They also know there are better, more reliable and faster systems available, but their employer simply will not provide the funds to buy them. According to a recent survey, employees reliant on IT support often consider it a major source of job dissatisfaction. Through no fault of their own, they can suddenly find their productivity deteriorating (下降) or quality control non-existent. And there’s little they can do about it. The experience of using IT affects almost every aspect of the workplace. It has become a crucial part of employees’ overall work experience. When IT is operating as it should, employee self-confidence increases. Their job satisfaction, too, can surge when well-functioning machines relieve them of dull tasks or repetitive processes. But if there’s one thing that triggers widespread frustration (沮丧), it’s a failed IT transformation project. In such cases, high expectations are dashed, and a long list of promised efficiencies fails to materialize. This occurs when business leaders implement IT initiatives with little consideration of how those changes will impact the end user. This is why managers should appreciate how influential the IT user experience is, and make a substantial effort to ensure their IT team fixes programming errors and application crashes. Adequate and timely IT support should also be available to help users resolve technological issues at work. More importantly, IT practitioners need to understand how employees feel when they use IT. Therefore, businesses need to design their IT infrastructure to fit their employees’ work, rather than force employees to work around the company’s IT limitations. 32. Why does the author say IT work is not a job he admires? A. Fixing equipment urgently during meetings. B. Knowing better systems are not funded. C. Dealing with unhappy colleagues repeatedly. D. Handling high-pressure tasks with poor support. 33. What is said about Information Technology’s influence on employees? A. It mainly helps the tech-skilled. B. Its negatives may outweigh positives. C. It can hurt or help work and well-being. D. It often lowers productivity and satisfaction. 34. What should managers and businesses do to improve the IT experience? A. Make IT training available to staff. B. Tailor technology to fit human work patterns. C. Upgrade systems regardless of cost for efficiency. D. Focus first on solving urgent technical breakdowns. 35. Which would be the best title for the text? A. Employee Training in the Digital Age B. The Rising Cost of Business Technology C. Why IT Departments Need More Funding D. Human-Centered IT: A Key to Productivity Emotional maturity is a person’s ability to manage their emotions and life stressors in a healthy manner. In my mind, knowledge was power, and power was truth — clear, sharp, absolute. But the older I get, the more I realize how often truth can harm, and how the way you deliver it matters just as much as having it. In high school, I was the kind of student who could solve a physics problem before the teacher had finished writing it. No one would deny that I was a genius. I believed in right and wrong like they were written in binary (二进制). Grey areas? To me, those were for people who didn’t try hard enough to think clearly. I prized correctness above kindness, certainty over understanding. And nothing brought me more satisfaction than exposing a mistake, no matter who made it. There was one day I can’t forget. One bright autumn morning, our class was chosen to host a model lesson for a newly arrived young teacher, Mr. Feng. The topic was climate change — a subject I adored and had read about passionately in books and articles. The back rows were packed with the school’s top authorities: the principal, academic directors, and seasoned teachers, all watching closely. Mr. Feng had clearly rehearsed every line, but the tremble in his voice betrayed his nerves. He smiled tightly and tried to keep the lesson moving smoothly. Then it happened. Mr. Feng pointed to a slide about nuclear power and said, “Uraniam is one of the most powerful fuels…” “It’s uranium (铀), not uraniam!” I stood up without being called on, loud enough for the hall to fall into silence. My voice echoed, a spotlight in a room full of murmurs. My classmates turned to stare. The principal raised an eyebrow. I sat down, thrilled as always, at catching an error. To me, truth had been served — and that was what mattered most. Paragraph 1: The teacher froze, and then smiled faintly, saying “Thank you.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Years later, the memory hit me when I was doing a college speech contest. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2027届10月月考卷(三) 英语参考答案 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 How much is the shirt? M: So what made you enter this contest? W: I actually remember hearing about it on radio and immediately decided to try my luck. I’ve always enjoyed filming people and even directed a school play once. But nothing prepared me for what was to come. And I guess that is lucky because there is nothing like completing a movie. M: What was the most challenging part about that? W: I think the hardest of all was getting the crew together. Funding came a close second. The screenplay was the easiest as I had written one for school but hadn’t used it. And my parents let me shoot at our house so we didn’t have to worry about the venue, saving us the extra cost of renting! M: Was filming easy then? W: Not really. After a whole week of rain, the clouds are finally looking like they might be on their way out! Strong winds are picking up, and we’re hoping for sunshine tomorrow. However, all that rain made the roads really slippery. This morning’s rush hour saw an accident that resulted in the closure of several downtown streets. A car traveling east on Main Street at approximately eight a.m., hit a car traveling south on Oak Street. A pickup truck was also involved. Firefighters rushed to the scene, and the drivers were taken to Memorial Hospital. An emergency room doctor who was interviewed by our reporter said that there were minor injuries and all three drivers had been released from the hospital. Despite the street closure, police said there were no major delays to traffic, and streets were reopened two hours after the event. 21. C 22. C 23. The community’s support has driven her ambition for change. Since then, Sophie has organized large events on a zero budget.(她以为最多会有十个人来,但来了200人。 故选A。 根据第三段的“Sophie’s decision to become heavily involved in Giving Aroha, a volunteer-based organization, was made during her river cleanup. C 29. A 30. D 31. 根据第三段“The participants generally did better when they were working in silence.(参与者们在安静的环境中工作时表现通常会更好)”可知,参与者在完全安静的环境下表现最佳。 根据第六段“He also suggested that Mozart’s music could aid brain development. It has become a crucial part of employees’ overall work experience. When IT is operating as it should, employee self-confidence increases.(使用信息技术的经历几乎影响了工作场所的方方面面。它已成为员工整体工作体验中至关重要的一部分。当信息技术正常运行时,员工的自信心会增强)”及第四段中“Their job satisfaction, too, can surge when well-functioning machines relieve them of dull tasks or repetitive processes. But if there’s one thing that triggers widespread frustration (沮丧), it’s a failed IT transformation project.(当运行良好的设备减轻了他们单调的任务或重复性的流程时,他们的工作满意度也会大幅提升。但有一件事会引发广泛的沮丧情绪,那就是信息技术转型项目的失败)”可知,信息技术对员工的影响既有积极的一面,也有消极的一面,即它可以影响工作和生活的好坏,C项It can hurt or help work and well-being.(它可能会对工作和幸福感产生不利影响,也可能带来积极的作用)与文章内容相符。 根据最后一段“Therefore, businesses need to design their IT infrastructure to fit their employees’ work, rather than force employees to work around the company’s IT limitations.(因此,企业需要设计其信息技术基础设施以适应员工的工作需求,而不是迫使员工绕过公司的信息技术限制)”可知,企业需要设计适合员工工作的IT基础设施,要根据人类的工作模式定制技术。 纵观全文,尤其根据最后一段“Therefore, businesses need to design their IT infrastructure to fit their employees’ work, rather than force employees to work around the company’s IT limitations.(因此,企业需要设计其信息技术基础设施以适应员工工作需求,而不是迫使员工绕过公司的信息技术限制)”可知,本文先揭示IT工作者及普通员工因技术问题面临的困境(引出现象), 进而分析IT对员工效率与心理的双重影响(剖析问题),最后提出根本出路在于以员工为中心设计IT系统(提出解决方案)。 36. A few teachers exchanged awkward glances; some students stifled their laughter. He corrected himself and moved on, but the tension lingered in the room like a fog. After class, a few classmates gave me curious looks — some impressed, others unsure. I felt triumphant, but also strangely hollow. Mr. Feng didn’t meet my eyes as he gathered his materials. For the first time, I wondered if being right had cost someone else more than it rewarded me. Years later, the memory hit me when I spoke at a college speech contest. Midway through my speech, I accidentally mispronounced “she” as “he”, changing the gender of a well-known scientist I was referencing. I froze, face burning, waiting for someone to call out the mistake. But no one did. The judges stayed focused. My peers listened, graciously silent and smiley. In that moment, I remembered how Mr. Feng must have felt when I publicly pointed out his mistake. I wasn’t brave then — I was unkind. As the audience’s applause echoed, I understood — sometimes, kindness speaks louder than truth. 词汇激活 行为类 ①忍住:stifle/hold back ②想起:remember/recall ③理解:understand/comprehend 情绪类 ①洋洋得意:triumphant/jaunty ②紧张:tension/stress 【点睛】[高分句型1] For the first time, I wondered if being right had cost someone else more than it rewarded me.(运用了if引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] As the audience’s applause echoed, I understood — sometimes, kindness speaks louder than truth.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $这是英语课听力部分,该部分分为第一第二两节。 Hello, international friends club. Well, i've pretty well finished the introduced RY stage. Actually, I was not interested in birds at first, but now i'm starting to get into IT. So what made you enter this contest? I actually . remember hearing about IT on radio and immediately decided to try my luck. I've always enjoyed filming people and even directed at school play once, but nothing prepared me for what was to come. And I guess that is lucky, because there is nothing like completing a movie. What was the most chAllenging part about that? I think the hardest st. Eval was getting the crew together. Funding came a close second. The screenplay was the easiest, as I had written one for school, but hadn't used to. And my parents let me shoot at our house so we didn't have to worry about the venue, saving us the extra cost of renting. Was filming easy then? Not really. since I had been in school place before I came naturally, IT was editing. That was hard. Was IT because of all the different tools you needed? Not at all. The problem was deciding which scenes to cut. Each actor gave IT there. All this win is not because of me. IT was a team effort . with us here on our podcast is abby.
