Like most teenagers, I start my day early and end it late. After school, I learn with my partner to prepare for the University Entrance Exam. When I have time off, I prefer to be outdoors. I love nature and animals. I feel quite annoyed at how humans treat the environment, so I do my best to help. I volunteer to plant trees and I’m a member of our school’s Nature Club. Samika, Bangladesh Hi! I’m Samika and I’m slim. I wish I were a student, but I’m not. I had to leave school at 13 to help my family. I work in a dress factory. It’s unbelievable hard work and we sweat all day long. Although everyone works hard, my partners and I still find time to practice push-ups and jogging together. At times like these, the world feels like an amazing place. Lila, USA Hi! I’m Lila, an outgoing guy from Chicago. I’m a senior high school freshman. I love my art and debate lectures — they allow me to meet guys who share the same types of view and build up my confidence. After school, I volunteer at a senior center, helping the seniors at their detailed requests. On weekends, I explore the nature with my parents or play soccer with local junior athletes. I live a positive life. Frieder, Germany Hi, Frieder here. I go to a high school in Munich. I’m not very interested in lessons, but I know I have to get an education. It’s very difficult for young people to find a job in Europe, so I am anxious about my future. I’m a gaming lover. I love Internet games so much that I have started a gaming club at my school. Maybe I’ll see you online — my screen name is FastFreedy. 1. Why does Asha do volunteer work? A. To pass exams. B. To make money. C. To protect the environment. D. To build up confidence. 2. What does Samika do now? A. She plants trees. B. She helps seniors. C. She studies in a university. D. She works in a factory. 3. What worries Frieder a lot? A. His gaming club. B. His future job. C. His school lessons. D. His screen name. C 2. D 3. 根据Asha, Tanzania部分中“I feel quite annoyed at how humans treat the environment, so I do my best to help. I volunteer to plant trees and I’m a member of our school’s Nature Club.(我对人类对待环境的方式感到非常恼火,所以我尽我所能提供帮助。我自愿植树,我是我们学校自然俱乐部的成员。)”可知,Asha做志愿工作是为了保护环境。故选C。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Samika, Bangladesh部分中“I work in a dress factory.(我在一家服装厂工作。)” 根据最后一段中“It’s very difficult for young people to find a job in Europe, so I am anxious about my future.(在欧洲,年轻人很难找到工作,所以我对自己的未来感到焦虑。)” B。 B As a teenager, I fell in love with foreign languages — first French, then Italian, then Hindi, and Chinese. The learning has often left me highly frustrated, but has also given me great joy at the fact of having understood some of the beauty of those wonderful, magical tongues. Why did I learn all those languages? Out of love for different sound systems, different writing systems, different grammars, different idioms, different ways of seeing the world. I also loved repeatedly listening to songs from other lands and feeling the culture and history silently lying in the words and tunes. My earliest-learnt language was French, and then Italian. My French is very good. Although my Italian is not as good, it gives me a huge burst of pride whenever I’m taken for a native speaker. Chinese is another kettle of fish. I’ve struggled with it for many years, yet I’m almost always lost in a group of native speakers. It’s discouraging, but I still want to try to climb the Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) of the Chinese language on my own. I don’t want a helicopter (直升机) ride to the summit. Learning another language is one of the deepest and most human things one can possibly do. Language is at the core of who we are. Language makes us who we are. Today, AI can impressively help anyone to write and read in almost any language. But this is a surface-level exchange of ideas, which comes at a steep price: the loss of honest engagement (参与) with the magic organ that makes us human. The challenges of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era. Chinese is difficult for me, but I will never allow AI to borrow my voice to express my thoughts aloud in a perfect Chinese accent. 4. What do we know about the author’s learning of foreign languages? A. It is always a pleasant experience. B. It is easiest for her to learn Hindi. C. She started learning them at the age of 8. D. She really loves them and their cultures. 5. Why does the author compare Chinese to “Everest”? A. To show it is full of natural beauty. B. To suggest it is extremely challenging. C. To show it is the most important language. D. To prove it is popular among language learners. 6. Why is learning a new language still important in the AI era? A. Because AI cannot translate languages clearly enough. B. Because it allows us to avoid the challenges of modern life. C. Because the process itself keeps us truly engaged as humans. D. Because it helps us get better grades in school examinations. 7. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To recommend AI tools for language study. B. To share personal views on learning languages. C. To compare the difficulties of French, Italian and Chinese. D. To prove that Chinese is the hardest language in the world. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第二段“Why did I learn all those languages? Out of love for different sound systems, different writing systems, different grammars, different idioms, different ways of seeing the world. I also loved repeatedly listening to songs from other lands and feeling the culture and history silently lying in the words and tunes. (我为什么要学习所有这些语言?出于对不同音系、不同书写系统、不同语法、不同习语、不同看待世界方式的热爱。我也喜欢反复聆听来自其他国度的歌曲,感受那些潜藏在歌词和旋律中的文化与历史)”可知,作者非常热爱外语及其文化。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Chinese is another kettle of fish. I’ve struggled with it for many years, yet I’m almost always lost in a group of native speakers. It’s discouraging, but I still want to try to climb the Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) of the Chinese language on my own. (中文则完全是另一回事。我已经为此挣扎了许多年,但在母语者群体中,我几乎总是迷失方向。这很令人沮丧,但我仍然想尝试独自攀登中文这座“珠穆朗玛峰”)”可知,汉语令作者沮丧,作者将汉语比作“珠穆朗玛峰”是为了表明它极具挑战性。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“Today, AI can impressively help anyone to write and read in almost any language. But this is a surface-level exchange of ideas, which comes at a steep price: the loss of honest engagement (参与) with the magic organ that makes us human. The challenges of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era. 通读全文,结合第一段“The learning has often left me highly frustrated, but has also given me great joy at the fact of having understood some of the beauty of those wonderful, magical tongues. (学习过程常常让我非常沮丧,但同时也给我带来了巨大的快乐,因为我理解了一些那些美妙神奇语言的魅力)”以及第二段“Why did I learn all those languages? Out of love for different sound systems... (我为什么要学习所有这些语言?出于对不同音系的热爱……)”和第五段“The challenges of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era. (学习一门新语言的挑战正是为什么在AI时代它仍然如此重要的原因)”可知,文章以作者个人学习多种外语的经历和感悟为主线,旨在分享个人对学习语言的看法。 C When Sonja Detrinidad opened her online shop selling houseplants, she didn’t expect much from it. But things turned out totally different. She received so many orders that she was very busy. In June of 2020 alone, she sent out 1,200 orders. Over the last year, Detrinidad shipped more than 70,000 plants. Her story is just one example: as people spent more time at home, the house-plant business grew very fast. “Houseplants are popular these days,” says Dr. Melinda Knuth, a researcher from the University of Florida. “People living in places with many plants say they are more satisfied with their life,” she says. “Bringing more nature into our living space can change our feelings and the way we think.” Plants are good for our mind in several ways. The most important one is that they can lower cortisol, a kind of chemical in our body that causes stress. “Students staying around plants do better in schoolwork than those in classrooms with no plants,” Knuth says. “This good influence also works for adults at work. Her study found that workers in offices with lots of plants took 30 percent fewer sick days.” If you are one of those who enjoy the good effects of houseplants for your body and mind, do not feel too bad when one or even several of your plants die. “Doctors learn medicine through practice, and lawyers learn law through practice. You also need practice to keep plants alive. Looking after plants teaches you to be patient and to keep learning. Try your best to care for them. But if a plant dies, just get a new one,” Detrinidad says. 8. How was Detrinidad’s business when it started? A. It met much hard competition. B. It lost a lot of money. C. It got plenty of money support. D. It did much better than expected. 9. What is one of Knuth’s findings about plants? A. Plants interest students more. B. Plants make air clean. C. Plants make stress chemicals higher. D. Plants help people work better. 10. What does Detrinidad try to explain by mentioning doctors and lawyers? A. We need social skills very much. B. What it means to keep something going. C. We need to keep trying and learning. D. Professional ideas are of great value. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. It’s Time to Buy New Houseplants B. Plants Make You Feel Better C. Advice on Buying Houseplants D. Plants Make Your Home Nice-Looking 【答案】8. D 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段中的“When Sonja Detrinidad opened her online shop selling houseplants, she didn’t expect much from it. But things turned out totally different. She received so many orders that she was very busy.(索尼娅·德特里尼达德开设售卖室内绿植的网店时,并没有抱太高期望。但情况完全出乎预料,她接到了大量订单,忙得不可开交。)”可知,德特里尼达德的网店生意实际发展状况远远超出了她最初的预期,比预想中要好得多。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段克努斯说的话“Students staying around plants do better in schoolwork than those in classrooms with no plants(身处有绿植环境中的学生,学业表现比教室里没有绿植的学生更出色)”以及“This good influence also works for adults at work. Her study found that workers in offices with lots of plants took 30 percent fewer sick days.(这种积极影响对职场成年人同样适用。她的研究发现,绿植充足的办公室里,员工的病假天数减少了30%。)”可知,绿植对学生的学业和职场人士的工作都有正向作用,能够帮助人们更好地开展学习与工作。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Doctors learn medicine through practice, and lawyers learn law through practice. You also need practice to keep plants alive. Looking after plants teaches you to be patient and to keep learning.(医生通过实践掌握医术,律师通过实践精通法律。 D A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests. Toys sleepover programs are designed to get children interested in books. Children take their toys to a library for the night. At this point, workers and volunteers take photos of the toys which explore the library and read books. The next day, the children collect their toys and the photos of what the toys did during the night. They are given the books their toys chose to read. It was found that before the sleepover the children did not spend time looking at the books in their play area at preschool. Immediately after the sleepover, the number of children who read to the toys was higher than the number who did not, but after three days the effect decreased gradually. The researchers also tested a method for sustaining the effect. They reminded the children of the sleepover a month later, by hiding the toys and showing them the photos again the next day. This simple method brought an increase in the number of children reading to their toys. The study proves for the first time that children who take part in sleepover programs read picture books to their toys more. “We wanted to know if there really was an effect, and if so, how long it lasts. Surprisingly, not only did the children show interest in the books, but they also began to read to their toys. This means that a new behavior pattern appeared that the children hadn’t had before. We did not expect anything like this,” said one of the researchers. Reading is important for the development of children’s language skills and imagination. When parents read to their children, it is a passive way of reading for the child. However, when children read to their toys, it is a more active, self-directed way of reading, helping them develop into more active readers, researchers said. 12. What is the purpose of the sleepover program? A. To develop children’s language skills. B. To help children to sleep well. C. To encourage children to read more. D. To guide children to form a good sleeping habit. 13. What do children do in the sleepover program? A. Go around the library with their toys. B. Sleep with their toys. C. Read together with their toys. D. Take their toys to the library. 14. The underlined word “sustaining” in paragraph 4 can be replaced by______. A. keeping B. testing C. surveying D. showing 15. What made the researchers surprised after the study of the sleepover program? A. Children showed no interest in the books. B. The effect of the sleepover program could last long. C. Children began to read to their toys on their own. D. Whether the sleepover program had an effect remained unknown. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段“A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests.(一项新的研究表明,一项旨在让孩子们相信他们最喜欢的玩具也喜欢阅读的通宵活动,有助于鼓励孩子们拿起更多的书) ”可知,过夜活动的目的在于鼓励孩子们读更多的书。 根据第二段“Children take their toys to a library for the night. At this point, workers and volunteers take photos of the toys which explore the library and read books. The next day, the children collect their toys and the photos of what the toys did during the night. They are given the books their toys chose to read.(孩子们把玩具带到图书馆过夜。这时候,工作人员和志愿者拍摄玩具探索图书馆和阅读书籍的照片。第二天,孩子们收集他们的玩具和玩具在晚上做什么的照片。他们会得到玩具选择读的书)”可知,孩子们把玩具带到图书馆,阅读玩具选择读的书。故选D项。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段“The researchers also tested a method for sustaining the effect. They reminded the children of the sleepover a month later, by hiding the toys and showing them the photos again the next day. This simple method brought an increase in the number of children reading to their toys.(研究人员还测试了一种维持这种效果的方法。一个月后,他们把玩具藏起来,第二天再给孩子们看那些照片,以此来提醒他们过夜的事情。这个简单的方法使孩子们对着玩具读书的人数增加了)”可知,研究人员运用给孩子看照片提醒他们过夜的事情,这样可以增加孩子读书的数量,保持过夜活动的效果。由此可知,“sustaining”可替换为“keeping”。故选A项。 根据第五段““Surprisingly, not only did the children show interest in the books, but they also began to read to their toys. This means that a new behavior pattern appeared that the children hadn’t had before. We did not expect anything like this,” said one of the researchers.(“令人惊讶的是,孩子们不仅对书表现出兴趣,而且还开始对着玩具读书。这意味着一种新的行为模式出现了,这是孩子们以前没有过的。我们不希望这样的事情,”其中一名研究人员说)”可知,孩子们在过夜活动之后对着玩具读书使得研究人员感到惊讶。故选C项。 第二节:七选五(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Starting with a new school can be difficult. His school lessons. D. His screen name. B As a teenager, I fell in love with foreign languages — first French, then Italian, then Hindi, and Chinese. 4. B. C When Sonja Detrinidad opened her online shop selling houseplants, she didn’t expect much from it. Plants Make Your Home Nice-Looking D A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests. Starting with a new school can be difficult.
