almost five years off theit life expectancy().
Tbe study was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health,
and buil on previous research that had already suggested that famous singers pass
away younger. It wanted to look at whether it was fame()itself or the singers'
lifestyles that were behind this.
The researchers made a list of 324 famous singers who worked between 1950
and 1990.Then they matched those stars with a list of 324 less famous singers by
when they were born, where they were from, and if they were part of a band or not
Nearly 60%of the singers were in bands, while close to 30%were solo(
singers, and the rest had spent parts of their careers both solo and in bands.
When the big stars were compared to their less famous"twins",they were found
to have a 33%higher death risk. The researchers said this makes stardom about as
much a risk to health as occasionally smoking.
The study also found that being part of a band could be protective, giving those
singers a 26%lower death risk than solo singers. The researchers suggested that this
could be because being part of a band means not having to deal with the pressure of
being famous alone.
28.What was the study based on?
A.Stars'albums.B.Mick Jagger's story.C.Previous research.D.An interview.
29.What did the researchers take into consideration when matching the singers?
A.Their health condition.
B.Their birth year.
C.Their educational background.D.Their eating habits
30.Which of the following has the closest meaning to "stardom"in paragraph 5?
A.Being famous.
B.Adisease.
C.Stars in the sky
D.Smoking.
31.What does the study find?
A.Rock music is the most popular.
B.Famous singers live unhealthily.
C.Band members are under a lot of pressure.
D.Well-known solo singers tend to have shorter lives.

If you want to become a fluent English speaker, you should take some advice:
there are four skills in learning English. They are listening, speaking, reading and
writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve
your speaking and writing skills, you should first gain the skills of reading and
listening.
Read as much as you can.But your reading must be active. It means that you
must think about the meaning of the sentences, the meaning of the unfamiliar words,
etc.
There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand
all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact you see them for the first time
and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books,
is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down
the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices:besides reading, you can listen every day
for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful
at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening.Since you have lots of inputs
(in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never
means that you should not practice listening.
For listening, you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made
for children.Their languages are easy.Or if you are good at listening, you can listen
to VOA or BBC programs every day.Again the thing to remember is being active in
listening and preferably taking some notes. If you follow these pieces of advice, your
speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little
effort they will become perfect.
32.According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills?
A.Reading and listening.
B.Reading and writing.
C.Writing and speaking
D.Speaking and listening.
33.To improve your reading,when you read,you should
A.look up all the new words in the dictionary.
B.think about what you are reading actively.

35.Which of the following may the author agree with?
A.Everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day.
B.You needn't practice listening if you keep in reading every day.
C.Being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening.
D.You should take notes of whatever you are hearing.

The Power of a Personal Journal
Keeping a daily journal is one of the most powerful and beneficial habits you can
develop. It is more than just a record of your life;it is a tool for self-expression,
reflection, and personal growth.36 For many successful writers and
thinkers,it's their first step into daily writing discipline.
A key benefit of keeping a journal is better self-understanding.Writing down
your thoughts and feelings forces you to clarify them.37 This process gives
you new insights into your values and life goals, creating a space for honest
self-conversation
38The more you write, the better you express ideas clearly. You can
experiment with new vocabulary, different sentence structures, and various writing
styles without the pressure of being graded. It's a private playground for your words.
To get started, you don't need a fancy notebook or special pens.39
Consistency matters most-spend 10-15 minutes daily. You can write about your day,
things you're grateful for,or challenges you face. You can also focus on daily
observations like the weather.
The benefits of this simple practice extend far beyond the page.It can reduce
stress, spark creativity, and help you solve problems more effectively.40
