一、U1单元话题预测
Passage 1
After school, Vishal Singh faces a difficult choice. He knows he should really get on with his homework, but the Internet is just so tempting (诱人的).
All too often, the 17-year-old student from Woodside High School in California favors Facebook, YouTube and making digital videos. He often chooses time on his computer over his studies.
“Students have always faced distractions and time-wasters,” writes Matt Richtel in the New York Times. He says that computers and cell phones, and the stimulation (刺激) they offer, are a real challenge for young people, who need to focus on learning.
Students say that their parents, worried about the distractions, try to police computer time. But monitoring the use of cell phones is difficult.
Teachers at Woodside commonly blame technology for students’ struggles to concentrate, but they are divided over whether computers and the Internet are the solution.
In Richtel’s article, English teacher Marcia Blondel shares her frustration with her students and her inability to get them to read 30 pages of a book for homework. To address this shortcoming, she takes part in a read-aloud of the book in class.
“You can’t become a good writer by watching YouTube, texting and e-mailing a bunch of abbreviations.” she says.
But even as some parents and educators express their worries over students’ digital diets, they are making efforts to use technology in the classroom, seeing it as a way to engage these 21st-century students.
The principal of Woodside High School, David Reilly, asked teachers to build websites to communicate with students, spent a large amount of money setting up a multimedia center and introduced new courses like the digital audio recording class. He also pushed first period back an hour, to 9 a.m., because students were showing up bleary-eyed (睡眼惺忪的), at least in part because they were up late on their computers.
“I am trying to take back their attention from their cell phones and video games,” he says. “To a degree, I’m using technology to do it.”
Some US schools are looking to use the Internet to encourage students to study.

Passage 2
阅读并回答问题。
A new trend called “Color Walk” is spreading among Chinese teenagers — not as a sport, but as an activity to reduce daily stress. The rule is easy: pick a color, take a walk, and photograph anything that matches it. This gently takes your mind off worries. A teacher asked her students to share experiences. The following are three replies showing how they find joy in simple colors.
Li Hua
I used to think my walk to school was boring and grey. Last week, I picked “Green” as my theme for a color walk. Suddenly, fresh moss (苔藓) caught my eyes, spreading over old stone walls. Bright leaves waved in the wind, smiling at me. The path felt calm and alive. A green surprise waited in every corner I ever ignored. I slowed down, breathing the fresh air, and the morning light seemed softer. Now I walk more slowly, enjoying the beauty of colors along the way.
Zheng Wei
As a Grade 8 student, I often feel stressed about exams. One afternoon, I went out to look for the color “Orange.” The moment I saw how sunlight turned the library windows gold at 4 p.m., I felt so calm and peaceful. I just stood there, focusing on nothing but the sunset. After a while, my breathing grew deeper and calmer. I noticed my shoulders relaxing for the first time that day. It was like that simple orange glow just washed the worries right out of my mind.
Chen Xi
I joined a “Color Walk” group online. We all picked “Red” and shared our photos later. To my surprise, everyone found red in such different ways—a bright red lantern, a little girl’s dress, a blooming flower. Although I walked alone, seeing their photos made me feel connected and warm. Later, we started to talk about our lives and became close friends. Because of this shared love for life, the world feels smaller and kinder. Every time I see red now, I think of my friends and smile.
Dear students, as you step into the busy life of Grade 9, remember that true beauty lies in the courage to find colors in your daily life. Take a “Color Walk” to notice the green trees, the blue sky, and the warm smiles around you. Never stop looking for the beauty in the world, and these colors will surely light up your path and make you shine even brighter in the coming year.

Passage 2
Rural Cultural Jobs That Are Worth Our Respect
When teenagers discuss ideal jobs, most of them talk about city-based jobs such as designers, doctors or online bloggers. Only a small number of students pay attention to rural cultural jobs which keep our local folk culture alive. In fact, any job that protects village folk culture and helps countryside develop is worthwhile, especially jobs carrying traditional craftsmanship spirit.
A village folk architect is one typical valuable rural cultural job. Its main daily work is repairing broken ancient village houses and redesigning old folk buildings without destroying their original cultural features. Workers need two core qualities: professional wooden construction skills and rich local folk culture knowledge. Sometimes repairing one ancient wooden beam takes three full workdays, and workers cannot make any careless mistakes.
Another irreplaceable rural job is rural science journalist. These workers visit farms and villages regularly, record traditional eco-farming skills and write easy articles for local farmers. Their written reports are totally different from general online agriculture videos. Online videos offer universal farming knowledge, while journalists’ articles are specially written to fit local village soil and climate conditions.
Many young people refuse to take rural cultural jobs for two main reasons. First, rural jobs usually have lower salaries than city office positions. Second, the skill training cycle is long and boring. New learners need to spend 6 to 10 years learning basic folk craft skills before they can work independently in villages.
Even with these difficulties, cultural experts encourage teenagers to take rural cultural jobs. These jobs protect disappearing village folk heritage. If no young people take over these jobs, thousands of traditional rural skills will vanish in the next twenty years. Local government provides free long-term folk craft training classes and village internship chances to attract young learners.
If you want to choose a truly valuable career, do not only focus on salary and city living conditions. Ask yourself two simple questions: Can this job protect our local folk culture? Do I have real love for rural life and culture? If both answers are yes, this job deserves your lifelong efforts.
Answer the following questions according to the passage.
1.What kinds of jobs are worthwhile according to the passage?

Passage 2
Answer the questions.
You never know what to expect on your trip. As the writer waited for her plane to Dakar, a woman asked if she could use her mobile phone. While the writer was hesitating, a similarly dressed traveller presented her phone to the woman without a second thought. This was the writer’s introduction to Teranga, the Senegalese way of life.
During the summer, the writer spent time volunteering in Dakar. Teranga helped her learn about and enjoy Senegalese culture. She accepted an invitation to stay with a local family, and people were willing to share whatever they had with strangers.
Teranga is especially visible in Senegal’s food culture. Senegalese families cook in a manner that expects the arrival of guests. To prepare to greet even unplanned visitors with Teranga, there’s often an extra plate ready. And for guests who do show up at mealtime, they will always get the best part of the dish. Passage 2
Peer Counselors: Warm Helpers for Teenagers
Now more and more middle schools set up peer counseling groups for Grade 9 students. Peer counselors are ordinary students who receive special training to listen to classmates’ troubles and offer useful advice. Unlike teachers, they stand at the same age stage, so they can fully understand the pressure and confusion that teenagers face every day.
The training for peer counselors lasts for four weeks. Teachers teach them how to listen patiently, how to ask proper guiding questions, and how to keep all classmates’ personal secrets strictly. The most important rule for every counselor is never to spread others’ private stories to any third person. If they break this rule, they will lose the qualification to work in the group.
Students can visit peer counselors during noon break or after school. The problems they talk about cover different sides of teenage life: conflicts with parents, difficulties in making friends, stress from schoolwork, and worries about self-image. Peer counselors cannot solve all big problems, but they can create a safe space for troubled students to pour out their feelings. Many students say after talking, their heavy hearts become much lighter.
A peer counselor called Tom shared his working experience. Last month, a classmate came to him, upset because his parents disagreed with his dream of learning photography. Tom did not give direct advice at once. Instead, he asked the boy to list all the advantages of photography and how he planned to balance study and hobbies. Later, the boy wrote a detailed plan and had a peaceful talk with his parents, and they finally reached an agreement.
Experts say peer counseling brings two-way benefits. For students with troubles, they get emotional comfort and practical suggestions. For counselors themselves, they learn to care for others, improve communication skills and become more responsible people. It is a valuable growing experience for both sides.
However, peer counselors have clear limits. If students meet serious problems such as long-term depression or family conflicts that cannot be solved, counselors must guide them to turn to professional school teachers or psychological experts for further help.
Answer the following questions according to the passage.
Task 1:
1.Who are peer counselors in schools?
2.How long does the training for peer counselors last?
3.What is the most important rule for peer counselors?
4.Why did Tom’s classmate feel upset when he went to Tom?
5.What two kinds of benefits does peer counseling bring?
Task 2:
6.What will you do if you are the counselor when students face serious mental troubles? (No more than 30 words)
【答案】1.They are ordinary students with special training to listen to classmates’ troubles and give advice. 2.It lasts for four weeks. 3.They must never spread others’ private stories to any third person. 4.Because his parents disagreed with his dream of learning photography. 5.Troubled students get comfort and advice; counselors learn to care for others and improve themselves. 6.I will guide these students to ask professional institutions or psychologists for help.

五、U2单元话题预测
Passage 1
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题)
In the city center, firefighters quickly get ready when they hear the alarm. Within 60 seconds they are dressed and rushing to a burning building. Even though they know the floors might collapse and the ceilings could fall, they still have to go inside. One wrong decision might mean death.
Who would do a job like that? Ask firefighter Sam Telfer. One month ago, he signed up for the job. He used to sit in an office of a software company, but now he is trained to break into rooms full of smoke and heat and come up with a rescue strategy.
“I wanted a job where I could be active, work with my hands, learn new practical skills, and face different challenges every day,” That’s quite an understatement (保守说法) to describe a career that requires you to keep a cool head while fighting against a fire. But Telfer says that flames (火焰) and nerves can be controlled in the same way: through continuous physical and mental training.
Telfer was a runner in college, but now he trains his lungs for dangerous situations instead of races. He has to climb hundreds of steps while wearing 34 kilograms of gear, like oxygen tanks. He also needs to carry unconscious people to safety. No matter what he’s doing, he has to control his breathing. Panic (恐慌) will only waste his limited air supply.
His survival depends on more than just being physically fit. Firefighters need a lot of mental preparation too. When they are not dealing with emergencies, they study many subjects like emergency medicine, structural design, and chemical reactions. They practice quickly assessing (评估) the changing conditions of a fire.
Shifting from a software expert to a first responder was a big change for Telfer. But he says, “I have never once felt that this isn’t the right job for me.” Even though danger might be waiting every day, his body and mind are trained to stay calm, even in the middle of a fierce fire.

Passage 2
What Makes a Job Worthwhile?
When students talk about dream jobs, most of them mention famous or high-income jobs like doctors, designers or photographers. Few students think about ordinary jobs that carry cultural value. However, every job that brings good influence to society is worthwhile, especially jobs with traditional craftsmanship.
Book restoration is one such worthwhile job. Its main duty is repairing ancient paper works damaged by damp, insects or fire. Workers need two basic qualities: professional repair skills and endless patience. Sometimes repairing one page takes a whole workday, and workers cannot make any mistakes.
Another valuable job is being a traditional wood craftsman. These workers repair old wooden furniture and create new wooden artworks. They learn skills from elder masters and pass the skills down to younger people. Their work keeps thousands of old wooden cultural treasures alive. Unlike factory machines that make the same products quickly, craftsmen create unique works with hand skills. Every piece of wooden art has its own special shape and story.
Many young people refuse to take these jobs for two reasons. First, traditional craft jobs usually bring lower pay than office jobs. Second, the training period is long and boring. You need to spend 5 to 10 years learning basic skills before you can work independently.
Even so, more cultural workers are calling on teenagers to take up traditional craft jobs. These jobs protect our national culture. If no young people learn these skills, many old crafts will disappear forever. The government also offers free training courses for traditional handcraft skills to encourage more young learners.
If you want to choose a worthwhile job, do not only think about money. Ask yourself two questions: Can this job bring value to society? Do I have real passion for this work? If both answers are yes, this job is worth your time and effort.
Answer the following questions according to the passage.
1.What kind of jobs are worthwhile according to the passage?
2.What are the two basic qualities for book restorers?
3.What is the difference between hand-made wooden works and machine-made ones?
4.How long do people need to learn basic wood craft skills to work alone?
5.What does the government do to encourage young people to learn traditional crafts?

Passage 1
Learn from Ancient Travellers’ Spirits
Three world-famous ancient travellers left valuable travel works for later generations: Xu Xiake from China, Marco Polo from Venice and Ibn Battūtah from Morocco. Their travel journals are not only records of scenery, but also precious cultural treasures teaching modern teenagers how to explore the world with patience and careful observation.
Xu Xiake travelled widely all over China for decades. He walked through mountains, rivers and villages, and wrote detailed notes about geography, plants and local customs every single day. No matter what bad weather or difficult roads, he never stopped recording what he saw. His work The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake helps modern people study ancient Chinese geography and folk culture. Unlike many travellers in his time who only visited famous scenic spots, Xu Xiake preferred small unknown villages to find unique local stories.
Marco Polo travelled to China during Kublai Khan’s rule and served the emperor for many years. After he returned to Venice, he was caught in a war and put into prison. With a writer’s help, he finished The Travels of Marco Polo. This book introduced China’s rich culture and great inventions to European readers, building a cultural bridge between the East and the West. His stories encouraged lots of Western people to travel to Asia to learn new culture.
Ibn Battūtah spent nearly thirty years travelling around forty countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. After he finished all his journeys, he told all his travel experiences to a scholar, who wrote them down into the book Rihlah. His writing focuses on different community cultures and local people’s friendly spirits, especially the warm hospitality of strangers in every country he visited.
History teachers ask students to learn from these three travellers for two main reasons. First, they never gave up travelling and recording even when they met hard difficulties. Second, they respected every local culture they met and were willing to communicate with ordinary villagers instead of only visiting famous buildings. Passage 2
Travel Brochure: Ancient Water Town Xixi
If you want to enjoy slow traditional travel within one hour from the city centre, Xixi Ancient Water Town is your perfect choice. This town has over one thousand years of history and keeps original water town style without too many modern buildings. Unlike noisy commercial tourist spots, Xixi keeps its quiet slow lifestyle of local villagers.
The whole town is crossed by clear water channels. Small wooden boats carry visitors across rivers, and old stone bridges connect different streets. Local villagers still live in black-tile wooden houses beside water. Every early morning, you can see elders wash vegetables by the river and small shops sell homemade rice cakes. No loud loudspeakers or crowded street performances break the peaceful atmosphere here.
Xixi is famous for two special local treasures: bamboo handcrafts and river food. Local craft masters make bamboo baskets, bamboo fans and small bamboo toys with thin bamboo strips. Visitors can watch the whole making process and even try simple weaving skills under masters’ guidance. For food lovers, the river shrimp soup and sweet rice cakes are must-taste dishes. All food uses fresh natural materials from local rivers and farmlands.
Another special feature of Xixi is “blank space travel”. Most tourist towns fill every street with shops and entertainment projects, but Xixi leaves large quiet natural areas with wild grass and old trees. Tourists can walk along empty riverside paths, sit on stone benches and enjoy quiet time alone. Travel writers say this empty quiet space gives visitors enough room to relax and imagine, which is the biggest charm of Xixi.
Many students choose Xixi for school autumn trips every year. Teachers think this trip helps teenagers stay away from busy city life and learn traditional local culture. Visitors cannot buy expensive luxury goods here, but they can get valuable spiritual peace that modern shopping malls cannot offer. If you plan a one-day slow trip with your classmates or family, Xixi Ancient Water Town is well worth your visit.

Passage 1
阅读下面短文,回答第1—4小题,并按要求续写短文结尾(约35词)。
Sam was known as the quietest boy in his grade. He never raised his hand in class, never spoke at lunch tables, and never joined any school activities. His classmates had stopped noticing him altogether; he was simply the boy who sat in the back corner of every room, silent and invisible. But Sam had a secret that nobody knew: he wrote beautiful poetry, filling notebook after notebook with words that nobody else would ever read.
The poetry came from a dark place. Sam’s father had passed away suddenly the previous year, and Sam had never found the right words to express his grief aloud. He had tried talking to the school counsellor, but the words got stuck in his throat like stones. So he wrote instead. Poetry became his voice, his comfort, and his only true friend in a world that seemed to have forgotten him.
One afternoon, his English teacher, Mrs. Bennett, discovered one of Sam’s notebooks when he accidentally left it in the classroom after school. She read a poem about rain that reminded him of his father, and she was deeply moved. The next day, she quietly asked Sam to read one of his poems at the school’s annual open-mic night. Sam felt his face burn with embarrassment and fear. He almost refused, but something in Mrs. Bennett’s kind eyes convinced him to at least consider it.
For weeks, Sam prepared. He stood in front of his bedroom mirror, reciting his poem again and again. His hands trembled, his voice cracked, and his heart pounded every single time. But he kept trying.
On the night of the open-mic, Sam watched nervously as other students performed. When his name was called, he walked to the stage as if in a dream. The spotlight blinded him, and for a moment he could not speak. Then he thought of his father, closed his eyes, and began.
The words poured out of him like water from a broken dam. He spoke of rain, of grief, of the love that outlasts death. The room was completely silent. When he finished, there was a long moment of stillness, and then the audience rose to their feet in applause. Some students were crying. Others were simply speechless.

一、U1单元话题预测

1.Did Li Hua think her walk to school was boring before?
2.How did Zheng Wei feel when he saw the sunlight at 4 p.m.?
3.According to the three replies, how do the students benefit from “Color Walk”?
4.Which color would you like to choose if you want to have a “Color Walk”? Explain your reasons. (about 30 words)

FAST is the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope. It is the brainchild of chief scientist Nan Rendong. FAST aims to discover how life began and to receive possible messages from alien civilisations.
It took Nan Rendong twelve years to find a perfect site in Guizhou Province. During the construction, he oversaw everything despite suffering from cancer. He died less than a year after the project’s completion in 2016.
Nan’s story shows a strong craftsmanship spirit. He devoted himself to his work and never gave up, even when he was seriously ill. Because of his efforts, China now has the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope, which helps scientists explore the universe.

2.What two core qualities do village folk architects need?
3.What is the difference between journalists’ farming articles and online farming videos?
4.How many years do learners need to master basic rural craft skills to work on their own?
5.What help does local government offer to attract young rural craft learners?
6.Write one sentence about your idea of valuable rural jobs (no more than 25 words).

The local people truly believe that the more you give, the more you receive.
Teranga builds a culture where there is no “other” and keeps neighbourhood life harmonious. It’s no wonder visitors to the country can’t wait to go back.

Passage 1
Professor Yang, an experienced counsellor, gave a talk at New Star Middle School about the changes that teenagers experience. He pointed out that teenagers go through physical, emotional and behavioural changes. For example, they may grow rapidly and get pimples on their faces. Emotionally, they may become easily upset or feel stressed about schoolwork. Some teenagers even do dangerous things to show off to others because of peer pressure.
Professor Yang gave some suggestions. First, don’t be bothered by your pimples — they are a normal part of teenage life. Second, communicate more with your family and friends to ease the trouble. Third, do sports to calm strong emotions. Most importantly, never do anything that feels wrong just because others ask you to.
Task 1: Answer the questions.
1.Who gave the talk at New Star Middle School? (不超过4词)
2.What physical change may happen to teenagers? (不超过8词)
3.Why do some teenagers do dangerous things? (不超过10词)
4.What does Professor Yang say about pimples? (不超过8词)
5.How can teenagers ease the trouble? (不超过8词)
6.What should you never do? (不超过12词)

1.Firefighters have to get ready within sixty seconds after hearing the alarm, don’t they?
2.When did Sam Telfer become a firefighter?
3.Where did Telfer work before becoming a firefighter?
4.What physical training does a firefighter take? Give an example.
5.How can a firefighter survive a big fire?
6.Does Sam Telfer love the job as a firefighter? Give your reason.
6.Please write one sentence to explain your idea of a worthwhile job (No More Than 25 Words).

Teachers advise students to keep travel journals and design travel brochures after trips, just like these ancient travellers did hundreds of years ago. These activities help teenagers observe life carefully and form a respectful attitude towards different cultures.
1.How many famous ancient travellers are mentioned in the passage?
2.What book did Xu Xiake’s travel notes become later?
3.Why was Marco Polo put into prison after returning to Venice?
4.What does Ibn Battūtah’s book mainly talk about?
5.What two spirits can students learn from ancient travellers according to teachers?
6.Give two practical ways for students to learn from ancient travellers. (No more than 30 words)
1.How long is the history of Xixi Ancient Water Town?
2.What transport can visitors take to cross rivers in Xixi?
3.What two local treasures make Xixi famous?
4.Why does Xixi leave lots of quiet natural areas?
5.What benefit can students get from visiting Xixi according to teachers?
6.Please give two practical tips for students travelling in Xixi. (No more than 30 words)
Task 1: Answer the following questions.
1.What was Sam’s secret that nobody in his school knew?
2.Why did Sam write poetry instead of talking to the school counsellor?
3.How did Mrs. Bennett discover Sam’s poetry?
4.How did the audience react to Sam’s performance at the open-mic night?
5.Task 2: 请根据上文情节,续写约35词,描述Sam第二天在学校的变化和感受。

Today, many kinds of Chinese folk art made by hand are dying out. Last weekend when I was walking in the park, an old man painting with sugar caught my eye. With a spoon and hot sugar, the aged artist sat at a table and produced shapes of animals and Chinese characters.
This also attracted many children, and they were begging their parents to buy one. The old man told us that, in the future, sugar painting would probably only exist in people’s memories because fewer people would learn the skill. I felt sad and worried after hearing his words.
This cultural treasure will disappear if we don’t find ways to save it.

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
In the digital era, our country’s Ministry of Education pays much attention to AI (artificial intelligence) education for primary and secondary school students across China. They have set up AI curriculums (课程) in different levels for them. In primary school, students can get a taste of basic AI knowledge and simple operations, like using basic AI tools. As for junior high school students, they should start to understand the principles (原理) and functions of AI more deeply and use it to solve problems in study and life. In senior high school, students are expected to carry out small-scale (范围) AI project designs and research, exploring the future of AI technology
The Ministry also encourages teachers to use AI in their daily teaching activities and regular assessments (评价). A new section related to AI will be added to the national smart educational platform (平台). In this way, excellent AI resources can be collected, making it easier for students around the country to share.
Nowadays AI is just like a “golden key” for the education field and offers great opportunities for both teachers and students.
However, just as a coin has two sides, AI may bring certain challenges as well. More and more students use AI tools like DeepSeek, Doubao, ChatGPT to help with their work. They let AI do tasks that normally require thinking—such as analyzing data, writing essays, solving hard problems, making decisions etc. But is this a good thing? An AI design researcher warns that if students depend too much on AI to think for them, they may lose their ability of thinking independently.
In conclusion, we’d rather use AI to make us think than think for us. Please think twice while using AI.
请将答案写在答题卡上。
1.How many levels do school AI curriculums have?
2.What are teachers encouraged to do by the Ministry of Education?
3.Why will excellent AI resources be collected on the national smart educational platform?
4.What will happen to the students who depend too much on AI to think for them?
5.What do you think is a wise way for students to use AI tools for study? (请自拟一句话作答)
