Passage 1
Social changes influence teenagers’ lives a lot. Your parents may tell you stories of their childhood. Compared with them, today’s teenagers live in a totally different world.
In the past, children spent most free time playing outdoor games. They had few electronic products. Information came from books, newspapers and radio. They seldom traveled far away.
Now teenagers live in the digital age. They get all kinds of information on the Internet. Online courses open new learning ways. They travel more with their parents. However, new troubles come along with these changes. Some teenagers spend too much time online. They spend less face‑to‑face time with family and neighbors.
Change cannot be stopped. It brings both good and bad sides. As teenagers, we should enjoy the convenience that changes bring us. At the same time, we should learn to stay away from bad influences. We also need to value face‑to‑face communication with people around us.

Passage 2
My name is Derick. Last Saturday, I was at Tom’s house, playing games with my friends. We were having a great time until Jake, one of my friends, mentioned “Space”, which is one of my favorite games. “Oh, that game is a waste of time,” Jake said. The others agreed. I love that game, but I didn’t want to argue, so I just went along with them.
As we moved onto another game, I felt a strange mix of feelings. I had just experienced peer (同龄人) pressure. It felt like I had to agree with my friends, even if it meant ignoring (忽略) what I truly enjoyed. It was a bit uncomfortable.
Later, I thought about what Dr. Casey had said: Teens make good decisions alone but can be influenced in social situations. Teens might have trouble in controlling risky behavior around friends or when angry. It made sense. I realized I needed to care more about my decisions.
But I also remembered the positive side. My friend Sarah had invited me to volunteer at an animal center. At first, I was not sure about that, but I ended up loving it. And when my friends study hard, it encourages me, too. True friends encourage each other to do good things.
I decide that while I’m influenced by those around me, the final decision is mine. I need to recognize good peer pressure from bad and learn to deal with it. I want to stand up for what I believe in, even if it means going against the group sometimes. It’s not easy, but it’s important.
1.Why did Derick agree with his friends about the game “Space”?
A.To avoid arguing. B.To change the subject.
C.To support Jake’s opinion. D.To show he disliked the game.
2.How did Derick feel after he agreed with his friends?
A.Sorry. B.Excited.
C.Uncomfortable. D.Embarrassed.

a. He felt peer pressure.
b. He played games with his friends.
c. He thought about Dr. Casey’s words.
d. He decides to stand up for what he believes in.
A.a-b-c-d B.a-c-b-d C.a-b-d-c D.b-a-c-d
4.In which part of the magazine could we read the passage?
A.Music and Movies. B.Teenager Life.

C.The Joys of Gaming with Friends. D.The Power of Positive Friendship.

Passage 1
Last week, Year Nine students took part in the school’s first Career Exploration Week, a five-day programme to help them understand how their personality might connect to future jobs.
The week began with a personality assessment (评估) taken by all 240 students. The results, studied by a team of career teachers, sorted students into six personality types: realistic, investigative (研究型的), artistic, social, enterprising (企业型的), and conventional (常规型的). “Many students had never thought about why some activities felt easy while others felt tiring,” said Ms. Tang, the school’s career teacher. “This test gave them a way to talk about those differences.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, people from twelve different jobs—including engineering, nursing, art design, computer programming, teaching, and accounting (会计)—visited the school to share their experiences. Students went to three forty-minute classes of their choice, where they could ask questions and try small tasks themselves. A computer engineer showed students how to build a simple app; a nurse showed how to take a patient’s blood pressure; an accountant showed how a company’s money is planned and recorded.
The best part of the week was Thursday’s “Job Shadow” afternoon, when 180 students spent three hours at real workplaces around the city. Li Na, who said she was “quiet and careful with details,” shadowed a forensic (司法的) accountant and came back deeply interested. “I never imagined accounting could be like solving puzzles,” she said. “I always thought it was just about filling in forms.”
Another student, Zhang Wei, had always thought he would become a doctor like his father. But after shadowing a paediatrician (儿科医生) for a day, he found that the job’s emotional demands left him feeling tired rather than happy. “I’m a quiet person,” he explained. “I need quiet time to get my energy back. I still want to help people, but maybe medical research would suit me better than seeing patients all day.”
Friday ended with a reflection session. Students wrote short articles about what they had learned and how it might change their subject choices for senior high school. In a survey after the week, 87% of students said it helped them understand themselves better, and 72% said they were now considering jobs they had not known about before.
The school plans to hold Career Exploration Week every year and is building an online library so students can keep exploring all year. “Personality is not fate,”Ms. Tang said at the end.“But knowing who you are—what makes you feel excited, what makes you feel tired, what makes you lose track of time—is the first step to making choices that truly fit you.”

B.Medical research was much easier than clinical medicine.
C.The emotional demands of seeing patients left him tired.

B.Personality tests are unreliable and should be ignored entirely.
C.Students should choose careers regardless of their personality.
D.Only extroverts can achieve real and lasting career success.
Passage 2
In the busy city with tall buildings, firefighters rush into action when they hear an alarm. They have only one minute to get dressed, and then run to a burning building. They have to come into it, knowing that floors could break and ceilings (天花板) could fall. But firefighters like Steve are ready to help, no matter how dangerous it is.
Steve used to work in an office, sitting in front of the computer all day long. Now, he is trained to break into rooms full of smoke and heat to save lives. “I’d like to be on my feet more, working with my hands, and doing a job that is different every day,” he says. That’s a simple way to describe a job that requires bravery and a cool head while fighting a fire. But Steve says that fire and fear can be overcome (克服) through endless training in both body and mind.
Steve used to be a runner in college, but today he often runs to train his body for dangerous situations. He might climb hundreds of steps, carrying heavy things or people. He must control his breathing so that he won’t run out of it.
Being a firefighter isn’t just about being physically strong. Steve also needs to think a lot and keep learning about medicine, building design and science, for example, quickly understanding how a fire changes. “________,” Steve says. “I’m always learning something new through it.”

Passage 1
No one wants to go on a fun trip but end up spending the whole time running to the bathroom! While bad seafood might cause a stomachache, the trip itself can also upset your stomach.
Your stomach is full of tiny helpers that work to digest (消化) your food. But when you travel, things change. Sitting for too long, changing time zones (时区), and not sleeping on time can all make your stomach feel uncomfortable.
For one thing, sitting on a plane or in a car for hours can squeeze your stomach. This slows down how food moves, and your stomach may feel uncomfortable. Also, your body has a “daily clock” that helps it know when to eat, sleep, and even poop (排便) But when you travel far, this clock gets mixed up. You might not go to the bathroom like you normally do. Sleep matters, too. If you don’t get enough sleep, your stomach can become upset. You may even feel like eating a lot of sweet snacks, which can make things worse.
The good news? You can stop stomach troubles before they start! Try standing up and stretching (伸展) every hour on the plane or during long car rides. If you’re flying across time zones, begin changing your bedtime a few days early to help your body get used to the new time. And before your trip, be sure to sleep well every night. A rested body is a happy body, and that means a happy stomach, too.
So remember: move, sleep, and plan early. That way, your trip can be full of fun, not bathroom runs!
1.According to Paragraph 2, what can upset your stomach when you travel?
①Changing time zones.
②Sitting for a long time.
③Drinking too little water.
④Sleeping at different times than usual.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.②③④ D.①③④

A.放松 B.保护 C.清洗 D.挤压
3.If someone sleeps poorly before a trip, what might happen?
A.They may want to eat sweet snacks.
B.Their ability to digest food may improve.
C.Their body temperature might rise a little.
D.They might not notice time zone changes.
4.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The best foods to eat while traveling.
B.Different kinds of stomach problems.
C.The causes of an upset stomach during travel.
D.Ways to help your stomach feel better when traveling.
5.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A.To show how digestion works.
B.To warn people not to travel too often.

Passage 1
A tourism project brought great changes to Nizhuhe Village, a remote and poor village between Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. It has not only greatly improved local educational conditions, but also turned villagers’ hard lives into better ones, showing a warm miracle in the mountain area.
In the past, the village was cut off from the outside world. The only way to go out was the rough and muddy mountain roads. For students like Chen Honghan, the journey to school was extremely dangerous. They had to climb cliffs and walk for three long hours every day. The tiring trip often made them feel tired and even put their lives in danger. Villagers could only depend on traditional farming to make a basic living.
Since 2017, the local eco-cultural tourism project has completely turned over a new leaf. Workers built a scenic bus line, a cliffside lift and a cable car for free. Now Chen’s school trip takes only 30 minutes, which is safe and relaxing. She first rides a 6-minute scenic bus and then takes a lift that climbs 268 metres. Next, she takes a cable car ride that climbs over 200 metres. After a 1-kilometre walk, she arrives at the school in just under 30 minutes. The journey seems like flying through soft clouds: This special “cloud school bus” keeps students away from danger and makes going to school a happy experience.
★ In 2024, about 300,000 tourists visited the village, bringing a profit of nearly 20 million yuan. Many villagers opened farmstays, small shops and coffee shops. Some people who worked in big cities returned home to start their own businesses. Local infrastructure (基础设施) was improved a lot, with cleaner roads and better public services. Passage 3
A new type of travel has become popular in China, known as “special forces-style tourism (特种兵式旅行)”, This style of travel means visiting many places of interest in a short period, typically over weekends. College students are the main travelers in this type of tourism.
One such student is Yu Yinghua. She started taking part in this rapid travel in March. After spending nearly three years at school, Yu expressed her desire to explore during her free time. During her recent trip to Shanghai, Yu had a busy day, beginning at 7 a.m. and visiting a lot of spots (地点). Her trip began at Jing’an Temple at 7:30 a.m. She then went to visit a famous brunch shop and a fashionable store on Anfu Road. Following that, she explored the past homes of Song Qingling and Bajin. Yu enjoyed her lunch and took a short rest at a shopping mall. In the afternoon, she enjoyed the beautiful scenery while walking on the jar den Bridge of Shanghai. Before returning to school at 7:00 p.m., she watched a Hanfu show at Yu Garden and enjoyed some snacks.
Similarly, another student named Chen Junjun also enjoys this type of travel. However, Chen prefers long-distance trips to reduce pressure of her studies. In April, she had a two-day trip to Xi’an, Shanxi, where she explored all the main tourist attractions (旅游胜地).Chen mentioned that managing her studies could be demanding, so these trips served as a way to bring joy into her busy life.
However, experts warn that not everyone may find this type of tourism suitable. It can be physically tiring to visit so many places in a short period.
3.Put the following events about Derick into the correct order according to the passage.
a. He felt peer pressure.
b. He played games with his friends.
c. He thought about Dr. Casey’s words.
d. He decides to stand up for what he believes in.
A.a-b-c-d B.a-c-b-d C.a-b-d-c D.b-a-c-d
4.In which part of the magazine could we read the passage?
A.Music and Movies. B.Teenager Life.
C.Natural World. D.Amazing Animals.
5.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.A Day at Tom’s House. B.My Experience with Peer Pressure.
C.The Joys of Gaming with Friends. D.The Power of Positive Friendship.

二、U2单元话题热点预测
1.What is the main purpose of Career Exploration Week?
A.To help students choose their future careers immediately.
B.To connect students’ personality traits to possible careers.
C.To train students for specific jobs in twelve fields.
D.To test whether students have the right personality for work.
2.What can be learned about the personality assessment?
A.It helped students understand why tasks feel differently easy or hard.
B.It divided students into twelve different career fields.
C.It was designed and carried out by the students themselves.
D.It showed that most students shared the same personality type.
3.Why does the author mention Li Na’s experience?
A.To show that accounting is a better career than medicine.
B.To prove that quiet students should all become accountants.
C.To explain how forensic accounting differs from nursing.
D.To illustrate (说明) how the Job Shadow changed a student’s view.
4.What did Zhang Wei discover about himself through the Job Shadow?
A.He no longer wanted to help other people at all.
B.Medical research was much easier than clinical medicine.
C.The emotional demands of seeing patients left him tired.
D.His father had been completely wrong about a career in medicine.
5.What does Ms. Tang mean by saying “Personality is not fate”?

B.Personality tests are unreliable and should be ignored entirely.
C.Students should choose careers regardless of their personality.
D.Only extroverts can achieve real and lasting career success.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.C 5.A

三、U3单元话题热点预测
2.What does the underlined word “squeeze” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
C.To describe how food can make the stomach feel bad.
D.To explain stomach problems during trips and give advice.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.D 5.D
【导语】本文主要讲述旅行时胃部不适的原因,长时间久坐、时区变化、睡眠不足都会影响肠胃,同时给出了预防胃部不适的办法。
1.原文第二段“Sitting for too long, changing time zones, and not sleeping on time can all make your stomach feel uncomfortable.”,这句话说明久坐、时区变化、睡眠不规律会让胃部不适,对应①②④。
2.原文第三段“For one thing, sitting on a plane or in a car for hours can squeeze your stomach. This slows down how food moves, and your stomach may feel uncomfortable.”,长时间坐在飞机或者汽车里会挤压胃部,食物蠕动变慢,由此猜测“squeeze”词义为“挤压”。
3.原文第三段“If you don’t get enough sleep, your stomach can become upset. You may even feel like eating a lot of sweet snacks, which can make things worse.”,说明睡眠不足时,你会想吃很多甜食。
4.原文第四段“The good news? You can stop stomach troubles before they start! Try standing up and stretching every hour on the plane or during long car rides.”,本段介绍了几种方法,用来预防、缓解旅行途中胃部不适。
5.全文开篇介绍旅行会引发肠胃问题,中间分析原因,最后给出解决办法,因此作者写作目的是解释旅行中的胃部问题并给出建议。

By communicating with different tourists, villagers opened their eyes and learned new skills.

4.主旨大意题。根据“However, experts warn that not everyone may find this type of tourism suitable. It can be physically tiring to visit so many places in a short period.”
