Do you have trouble watching a movie without checking your phone? Does your family complain (抱怨) about your social media habit? If your answer is yes, you may be experiencing FOMO.
FOMO is short for fear of missing out (错过). It’s a worry that others might be experiencing something better without you. In other words, people are always interested in what others are doing.
Researchers have found that FOMO makes us check social media more often. In fact, it is a kind of bad cycle (循环) and can be hard to break. As a result, it can make you feel upset, lonely and bored. Your feelings will be easily influenced by others and your life starts to be controlled by the outside world. So what should we do? Let’s see some useful tips.
·Change your focus.
Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, try seeing what you have. Everyone owns their own success. Try to cut down your screen time, focus on building your own way to success and do what you like. Live in the moment, and you will find that you miss nothing in your life.
·Write down your life.
You can try to write down fun memories and experiences, either online or on paper. The diary can draw your attention from others to your own life. It can sometimes help you to get out of the cycle of FOMO.
·Find real connections.
Instead of trying to connect more with people on social media, why not meet someone face to face? You can choose to talk with families, make plans with a good friend and create a group outing. They can help you shake that feeling that you are missing out.
Let’s put down our phones and spend more time on offline life. Forget FOMO and try to experience JOMO—joy of missing out!
31. How does the writer lead in the topic?
A. By giving a fact.
B. By sharing a story.
C. By asking questions.
32. Who may experience FOMO?
A. Peter couldn’t complete his work because someone kept calling today.
B. Ben can’t get connected with anyone right now because his phone was lost.
C. Jane can’t help checking her phone when having dinner with her family.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The meaning of FOMO.
B. The influence of FOMO.
C. The development of FOMO.
34. Which of the following suggestions is NOT helpful?
A. Compare what you have with what you don’t have.
B. Try to develop the habit of keeping a diary every day.
C. Hang out with your close friends instead of talking online.
35. Which of the following is the best title?
A. Let’s turn FOMO into JOMO!

If we look for a plant that represents (代表) Chinese culture, we might list many plants. But if we also need the plant to be very useful, bamboo is probably the best choice.
Bamboo is everywhere in the Chinese people’s lives. In the past, people used it to make books, pens, walking sticks, and so on. Bamboo shoots (竹笋) are eaten as food. Bamboo played an important part in many areas of ancient people’s lives. Even now, bamboo is used to make many everyday things like chopsticks, baskets, hats and flutes (笛子). Scientist Joseph Needham even called Asian culture “the bamboo civilization (文明)”.
Besides, ancient Chinese scholars (文人) loved bamboo. The great poet Li Bai admired its straight and tall growth, and it wouldn’t bend (弯曲) easily like an honest man. After the Song Dynasty, bamboo was compared to a good gentleman. Su Shi praised bamboo as a gentleman in many of his poems and paintings.
Bamboo is also very important for music in China. Many traditional Chinese wind instruments were made of bamboo. Some experts think the sound of the first bamboo instrument might have come from the sound of burning bamboo. When it burns, the air inside expands (膨胀), and it makes a loud noise. This may have led people to make the simple bamboo flute. Today, there are still many types of flutes, like very long flutes played by several people together, very short ones only 4-5cm long, special ones with only one hole, and paired flutes used in Yunnan. From ancient flutes to modern instruments, bamboo’s clean sound has been part of Chinese history for centuries.
In a word, bamboo truly represents Chinese culture in many ways, and it will continue to shine in the future.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is used in many areas of our lives. In hospitals, AI helps doctors find out illnesses quickly and correctly, which saves a lot of time. In factories, robots powered by AI can help workers do heavy and dangerous work. AI also helps with transportation, for example, by making self-driving cars safer. These applications of AI make our lives easier.
The development of AI has gone through several stages. It all started with the Dartmouth Conference in 1956. Since then, there have been ups and downs. In the 1980s, expert systems (专家系统) were developed. In 1997, IBM’ s Deep Blue beat the world chess champion. Today, with the rise of deep learning, AI is more powerful than ever. It can tell pictures, understand natural language and even create art.
Some experts say that AI is changing education in many exciting ways. For example, it can create personal learning plans for each student. This means if a student is good at math but weak in English, AI can provide more English practice for them. And some students use AI tools as teachers to answer questions anytime they meet a difficult English problem. However, it is important for students to use AI honestly and not to cheat. Anyway, AI is a powerful tool that can make learning more personal and efficient for everyone.
There are many arguments about AI. Some people worry that AI will cause them to lose their jobs while others believe that AI will create new jobs and chances. There are also worries about the bias (偏见) of AI, which can lead to wrong treatment of certain groups. For example, AI might show pictures of nurses only as women because of stereotypes (刻板印象). And it’s sometimes hard to tell if a picture or video is real or created by AI, which can lead to the spread of false information. So we still need to think carefully about how to use AI in the right way so that it helps us in our lives.
56. How does the writer explain that AI makes our lives easier?
_______________________________________________________________________________
57. What’s the main idea of the second paragraph?
_______________________________________________________________________________
58. If you are weak in Chinese, what can AI do to help you?

59. How many arguments about AI are mentioned in the last paragraph?

60. What’s the writer’s advice on using AI?
