Unit 3 Smart Learning话题阅读任务单
Unit 3 Smart Learning
本单元的大问题“What makes a good learner?”启发学生从“学习方法”“学习态度”“学习习惯”三个维度思考高效学习的本质。Section A和Section B分别以“How do you study for...?”和“How can we get better at learning?”两个引导性问题架构板块内容,并层层深入,指向单元大问题的回答。Section A首先呈现各类实用学习方法(如take notes, review, test oneself, mind map, set goals等),让学生通过听说活动学会运用“by doing”结构交流学习方法,聚焦学习策略词汇与建议类句型两项核心目标语言。Section B的阅读语篇围绕“成功学习者的关键习惯”展开,涵盖成长型思维(growth mindset)、刻意练习、同伴互学、终身学习等核心概念,引导学生从行为表层深入到思维内核,理解“学习态度+学习方法=高效学习”的深层逻辑。写作环节要求学生介绍自己的学习习惯。本部分侧重探讨科学学习方法与积极学习心态对个人终身发展的价值。
Passage A
The Power of “Yet” — How One Small Word Changes Your Mind
Does life sometimes seem to be full of impossible problems? How many times do you find yourself saying things like “I really don‘t understand this maths problem” or “I can’t get into the school team”? Well, maybe it‘s time to introduce yourself to the power of “yet”.
By adding this simple word, you can change everything. “I really don’t understand this maths problem yet.” “I can‘t get into the school team yet.” Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible.
A school in the US changed the way it marks its students’ exams. The school found that the old “pass/fail” system wasn‘t helping students’ motivation. If students passed, great — but those who didn‘t pass often felt like failures. So now, students who don’t pass see a “Not yet” instead of a big red “F”. In that way, students feel that they are on a journey. They haven‘t reached the end, but they know they are going the right way.
This kind of thinking is part of what experts call “having a growth mindset”. People with a growth mindset don’t concentrate on failure. They aren‘t worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do. They enjoy the challenge and believe they can change.
In contrast, people who just focus on failure have what experts call “a fixed mindset”. These people are always worried about failure and are happy to give up when things don’t go right. They don‘t think that they are able to change.
Clearly, it is better to have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset. But don’t worry if you think you have a fixed mindset. You can train yourself to develop a growth mindset. Remember that it all starts with questioning the things you believe about yourself. Stop believing that you “can‘t” and realize that you just “can’t yet”. Once you start doing this, you‘ll wonder why you didn’t do it before.

【长难句分析】
第1句: They aren‘t worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do.
· 翻译: 他们不会因为第一次没有做对而担忧,而是乐于不断尝试直到成功。
· 重点: 这是一个并列谓语结构。主语 They 后接两个并列的谓语:aren’t worried 和 are happy,用 and 连接。be worried by 意为“因……而担忧”,后接动名词短语 not getting things right the first time(第一次没有做对)。be happy to do sth. 意为“乐于做某事”。keep trying 中 keep doing 表示“持续做某事”。句末 until they do 是时间状语从句,do 替代前文的 get things right,避免重复。
第2句: Stop believing that you “can‘t” and realize that you just “can’t yet”.
· 翻译: 不要再相信自己“不能”,而要意识到你只是“还不能”。
· 重点: 这是一个祈使句,包含两个并列的动词短语:Stop believing 和 realize。stop doing sth. 意为“停止做某事”。两个动词后各接一个 that 引导的宾语从句。第一个从句 that you “can‘t” 中的 can’t 代表固定型思维中的“我做不到”;第二个从句 that you just “can‘t yet” 中的 can’t yet 代表成长型思维中的“我只是暂时还做不到”。

Passage B
What Makes a Good Learner?
导读:优秀的学习者是天生的吗?还是后天养成的?科学家和教师经过多年研究发现,优秀的学习者并非天生具备某种特殊能力,而是拥有一系列可以后天培养的良好习惯。这篇文章将介绍优秀学习者的几个共同习惯——设定明确目标、保持好奇心、从错误中学习、定期复习——并告诉你如何从今天开始养成这些习惯。
体裁:说明文 难度:★★★★ 词数:约200词
What makes a good learner? Teachers and scientists have studied this question for years. Here are some habits that good learners share.
First, good learners set clear goals. They know what they want to achieve and make plans to get there. For example, instead of just saying “I want to improve math”, they set specific goals like “I will practice math problems for 30 minutes every day”.
Second, good learners are curious. They don’t just accept what they learn in class. They ask questions, look for answers and explore new ideas. Curiosity helps them stay interested in learning even when things are difficult.
Third, good learners learn from mistakes. They see mistakes as chances to grow, not as failures. When they get a problem wrong, they don‘t give up. Instead, they figure out what went wrong and try again.
Fourth, good learners review regularly. They don’t just study before tests. They go over what they‘ve learned every week, which helps them remember information better.
These habits may seem simple, but they make a big difference. Anyone can develop them with practice. If you want to become a better learner, start with one small habit today.
【重难生词】

【小练习】(从上方生词中选择合适的词填空):
1. Good learners set __________ goals instead of just saying “I want to improve”.
2. Children are naturally __________ about the world around them.
3. When you get a problem wrong, try to __________ what went wrong.
4. You should __________ what you have learned every week.
5. Anyone can __________ good learning habits with practice.
参考答案:1. specific 2. curious 3. figure out 4. go over 5. develop
【长难句分析】
第1句: For example, instead of just saying “I want to improve math”, they set specific goals like “I will practice math problems for 30 minutes every day”.
· 翻译: 例如,与其只说“我想提高数学”,他们会设定具体的目标,比如“我每天练习数学题30分钟”。
· 重点: 这是一个主从复合句。instead of 是介词短语,意为“而不是;与其”,后接动名词短语 just saying...。主句为 they set specific goals, like 是介词,后接名词短语作 goals 的举例说明。整句话通过对比(instead of)展示了模糊目标和具体目标的区别,具体目标 “I will practice math problems for 30 minutes every day” 中包含 for + 时间段 表示持续时长。
第2句: They go over what they‘ve learned every week, which helps them remember information better.
· 翻译: 他们每周都会复习所学的内容,这帮助他们更好地记住信息。
· 重点: 这是一个包含宾语从句和非限制性定语从句的复合句。go over 意为“复习”。what they’ve learned 是 what 引导的宾语从句,作 go over 的宾语(what 在从句中作 learned 的宾语,相当于 the things that they have learned)。逗号后面的 which 引导非限制性定语从句,修饰前面整个主句的内容,意为“这一点”,在从句中作主语。help sb. do sth.
Passage A
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Miss Tan's class looks wrong at first: thirty desks, and on Fridays it is the students who stand at the blackboard. Her school has joined a quiet experiment—turning pupils into teachers, one small lesson at a time.
The idea comes from what researchers call the protégé effect: when you prepare to explain something, your brain organizes it differently. In one study, students at a US university were asked to learn a passage in two ways. One group read it four times; the other group read it three times and then prepared to teach it to another student. In the test the next day, the “teachers” remembered about 30 percent more, and their notes showed more connections between ideas.
Small teachers must do three things a good reader skips: choose the important parts, find simple words, and answer honest questions. Each of these pushes understanding one floor higher. That is why a weak student often improves most when he is asked to teach the very thing he learned yesterday.
But the method needs rules. The teacher-students prepare for only ten minutes, not one hour; the little lessons stay short and friendly; and no one is asked to teach what they do not know. Miss Tan calls it “two wheels”: the learner’s memory moves forward, and the teacher’s confidence turns with it.
Do the little teachers learn better themselves? “My maths got cleaner,” said one ten-year-old, shrugging. “And now I know why my teacher waits.” The grown-ups call this metacognition. The children just call it Friday.
1.In the US study, the students who prepared to teach remembered about ________ more than the group that only read.
A.10 percent B.20 percent C.30 percent D.40 percent
2.Which of the following shows the structure of the text? (①=Para 1 ... ⑤=Para 5)
A.①/②③④/⑤ B.①②/③④/⑤ C.①/②③/④⑤ D.①②③/④/⑤
3.What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A.Long preparation makes little teachers better.
B.Without the rules, the method may become just another heavy task.
C.Students should only teach what they have already mastered well.
D.Miss Tan’s “wheels” turn faster on Fridays than on other days.
4.Why does the writer use the ten-year-old’s words at the end?
A.To prove that metacognition is too hard for children.
B.To explain how the US study was carried out.
C.To show the method works, in a child’s own voice.
D.To ask teachers to wait longer in class.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.C
【导语】本文介绍了谭老师班级进行的“学生当老师”教学实验,阐述了“门徒效应”的科学原理、具体实施规则以及该方法带来的积极学习效果。

3.根据第四段“But the method needs rules. The teacher-students prepare for only ten minutes, not one hour; the little lessons stay short and friendly; and no one is asked to teach what they do not know.”可知,如果没有这些规则,该方法可能会变成给学生增加负担的繁重任务。对应B选项“Without the rules, the method may become just another heavy task.”。
4.根据第五段“‘My maths got cleaner,’ said one ten-year-old, shrugging. ‘And now I know why my teacher waits.’”可知,作者引用十岁学生的话,说明该学生自身数学学习变得更清晰、理解了老师的教学行为,以孩子的亲身表述直观证明该教学方法的有效性,对应C选项“To show the method works, in a child’s own voice.”。
Passage B
While having Chinese classes, we are often amazed at how beautiful the ancient Chinese poems and articles are. However, these ancient texts can be quite difficult sometimes. It’s challenging for many of us to understand them. Here is good news for us. Recently, a college research team from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province has created “Xunzi” to help with the understanding of Chinese ancient books and research on them.
Xunzi is a large language model (LLM) which includes a great number of Chinese ancient books and documents, like the collections of the “Complete Library in Four Sections”. It uses deep learning techniques and big data sets, and collects more than two billion Chinese characters and words. This LLM was named after Xunzi because he was not only a famous philosopher during the Warring States Period, but also a pioneer in presenting and explaining theories of linguistics in ancient China.
With the model, researchers can quickly summarize the ancient texts in order to know about the themes of the ancient books. It can also find key information from the ancient texts, such as characters, events and places. Last but not least, the model can help researchers translate the ancient texts into modern Chinese to fully understand them.
“The research on traditional Chinese classics is hard work even for professors, let alone for common learners. We just hope Xunzi can help save some time and energy for people,” said Wang Dongbo, who led the research team. The LLM has been published on websites like [github.com] (https://github.com), allowing users to download and use it for free.
1.How do ancient Chinese texts feel without the help of technology?

Hua Luogeng was born in 1910 in a small town in Jiangsu. At about fifteen, he left school to help his family’s small shop. He loved maths, so he taught himself — studying at home, then walking to the town library for old books. People called the boy strange: a shop helper who asked questions about numbers all day.
Two years later, Hua arrived in Beijing with no diploma. He worked in the library of Tsinghua University: mornings at his desk, evenings reading maths for five hours. He read the way he always had — take small notes, then write a short summary in his own words.
In 1930, a paper by this young library worker caught a professor’s eye, and it changed everything: within a few years, Hua was teaching at Tsinghua without ever finishing high school. He later became one of the world’s greatest mathematicians, and he never forgot his method of reading: first, a book is heavy and thick; then you understand it so well that it becomes light and thin. His students said his class was easy to follow — he never forgot what it felt like to learn alone.
He often said, “Wisdom comes from hard work, and genius lies in accumulation.” For Hua, accumulation was never luck — it was one page, one note, one summary at a time.
1.What is the right order of events in Hua’s life?

Learning English is a challenging but rewarding journey. Here are some valuable tips to help you master this global language.
Build a Solid Vocabulary Base
Vocabulary is the building blocks of a language. 1 Try to learn at least 10-15 new words every day. You can use flashcards, vocabulary apps like “Memrise” or “Duolingo”, or even write the new words and their definitions in a notebook. For example, if you learn the word “pragmatic”, try to use it in sentences like “In business, a pragmatic approach often leads to better results.” 2 Reading English books, newspapers, and magazines can also expose you to a wide range of words in context, which helps you remember them more easily.
Improve Your Listening Skills
Listening is crucial for understanding spoken English. 3 Listen to English podcasts, such as “The English We Speak” by the BBC, which not only teaches you new words and phrases but also familiarizes you with different accents. Watching English-language movies and TV shows without subtitles is another great way. 4 At first, it might be tough, but gradually you’ll start to pick up on the words and expressions.
Practice Speaking Regularly
Don’t be shy to open your mouth and speak English. 5 Find a language exchange partner, either online on platforms like “Tandem” or in real life. Have conversations about daily life, hobbies, or current events. Join English-speaking clubs or groups at school—this will boost your confidence in speaking.
A.Make it a daily habit to expand your word bank.
B.This will help you get used to the natural flow of the language.
C.It enables you to express yourself accurately and clearly.
D.Listen to various English materials as often as possible.
E.Consistent speaking practice is the key to fluent communication.
F.Reading extensively is an effective way to reinforce vocabulary.

3.前文提到听力对理解英语口语十分重要,后文列举听英文播客、观看英文影视等听力练习方式;此处应说明听力练习的总体要求,选项D“Listen to various English materials as often as possible.”承接上文,逻辑通顺。

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Some students prefer to learn by themselves. They think they can learn better in this way because they have more freedom and independence. There is some truth in their way. 1 It is better to have a teacher, especially when they learn something more difficult.
First, a teacher can act as a guide to lead you to success. When you learn, you need help and advice. A teacher will give you a hand when you face difficulties. 2
What is more, a teacher puts real pressure on you. If you study by yourself, you must be strong-minded enough to keep on. 3 But under the guidance of a teacher, you will feel there is always someone to watch you. The teacher may give you homework to do. You must complete the homework, or you will not pass the course.
Last but not least, studying with a teacher will help you receive the benefit of the teacher’s knowledge. 4 . They teach students how to learn and how to obtain information. They guide all of you in class to discuss the material and provide extra material to broaden the scope of the topic.
5 I choose to learn in a big family — my school. Without a teacher, I would feel there would be no fun and no pressure. I could not learn well in such dull and depressing circumstances (情形).
A.Besides, teachers are connected with our life.
B.Teachers can help you solve all of your problems.
C.In short, I prefer to go to class studying with a teacher.
D.Without a guide, you would be searching in darkness.
E.And you may become inactive for lack of a strong will.

G.In class, teachers do more than just go over the material in the text.
【答案】1.F 2.D 3.E 4.G 5.C
【导语】文章对比了自学与跟老师学习的不同,阐述了跟老师学习的优势,表明作者更倾向于和老师一起学习。
【详解】
1.前文提到“There is some truth in their way. ”,后文指出“It is better to have a teacher”,此处需要转折。F项“但他们没看到跟老师学习的优势”承上启下,符合语境。
2.本段主要讲老师是向导。D项中提到“Without a guide”,与前文“act as a guide”呼应,说明没有向导的后果,逻辑通顺。
3.前文说“you must be strong-minded enough to keep on”,后文说“But under the guidance of a teacher, you will feel there is always someone to watch you”。所以E项“缺乏意志会变得懒散”与前文形成正反对比,引出后文有老师的好处。
4.后文详细列举了老师教方法、提供额外材料等具体做法,所以G 项“在课上,老师做的不止是讲课本”概括了后文内容,符合语境。
5.最后一段是文章结论,作者表明自己的选择。C 项“In short”表示总结,“I prefer”表明观点,与后文“I choose”一致。

It was the 3 term I would ever have.
The moment I arrived in Germany, I felt like I was starting from the beginning. The German I had learned in university wasn’t 4 for everyday conversation. I was often nervous at school, and worried about whether the teachers would call on me in class and whether I’d understand their questions. I only felt a little 5 with my eight roommates, who were willing to speak German slowly to me and didn’t seem to mind my 6 .
I chose to study three courses—reading&writing, grammar and history. All were in German and 7 , and the history class was the worst. The teacher spoke so 28 that almost everything he said flew over my head. I sat in the front, took notes and even recorded every single word he said in class, but 8 helped. I had no idea what the class was really about.

10. develop v. 培养;发展
例句:You can develop good habits with practice.(你可以通过练习培养好习惯。)
【小练习】(从上方生词中选择合适的词填空):
1. Good learners set __________ goals instead of just saying “I want to improve”.
2. Children are naturally __________ about the world around them.
3. When you get a problem wrong, try to __________ what went wrong.
4. You should __________ what you have learned every week.
5. Anyone can __________ good learning habits with practice.

2.How many advantages of Xunzi are mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
3.Which of the following is NOT true about Xunzi?
A.It includes plenty of Chinese ancient books.
B.It helps people save time and energy.
C.It was named after an ancient philosopher.
D.Users need to pay much money to use it.
4.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce a useful language model.
B.To ask people to study Chinese culture.
C.To show the beauty of ancient Chinese texts.
D.To talk about a research team’s work.
Passage C
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
1.What is the right order of events in Hua’s life?
a. He worked in the library of Tsinghua University.
b. He left school to help his family.
c. His paper caught a professor’s eye.
d. He taught himself maths in his hometown.
A.b-d-a-c B.a-b-c-d C.d-b-c-a D.b-c-a-d
2.The underlined word “accumulation” in the last paragraph probably means ________.
A.the money earned from the shop B.a long list of old books
C.the things one collects over time D.the school prizes a student wins
3.What can we infer from the text?
A.Hua finished college before he could teach.
B.Where you start does not decide where you end up.
C.Only library jobs can find real talent.
D.Hua’s method worked only in maths class.
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.A famous university library in Beijing.
B.How to keep notes and write summaries.
C.The small shop that taught China maths.
D.How a self-taught learner became a great mathematician.

Preparing for an exam can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. There’s no need to stress out or cram (突击准备). By doing a couple of simple things, you will be confident and ready for anything that comes up on the test.
★Start studying early.
If the class material is especially difficult for you, start studying early. Give yourself enough time to truly understand the material, practice it and then review it. Get a full night’s sleep before the exam. Your brain needs time to digest everything you’ve put into it, so start early and you don’t have to stay up all night.
★Read through your notes that may be on the exam.
It will refresh (唤起) your memory of the material and help you remember what you learnt. It will also help you to know all the information in your notes, including where it is located in your notes, so that you know where to find them, and what might be missing from your notes.
★Get some good notes.
If you’re not a good note taker, or there are “holes” in your notes, then ask a friend if you can copy his or her notes. Good notes can make all the difference when you’re studying. They make difficult points easier to understand and remember.
★Ask your teacher about the test material.
One of the easiest ways to begin your studying is to find out what is on the test directly from your teacher. Many teachers will provide some guidance on what will and will not be covered on the test. Knowing which material the test will cover can help you focus on the main material that you need to study.
1.What is advised before the exam according to the passage?
A.Staying up all night. B.Studying by yourself.
C.Reviewing the notes carefully. D.Asking teachers for the answers.
2.How can you solve the “holes” in your notes?

4.What is the structure of the passage?
