Passage 2
(25-26高一上·河北沧州南皮县第一中学·期中)Best Walking Tours in London
London is one of the most walkable capital cities in the world. People may think you’ re mad if you drive a car around town. Besides, nothing quite lets you get to know a city like a good walk around. So, lace up your sneakers — here are London’s best walking tours for your next visit.
Tour for Muggles
This is a can’t-miss trip in England. The tour starts near London Bridge subway station and moves on to locations used in the Harry Potter films (and several book locations). There’s one subway ride (London Bridge to Westminster) but otherwise it’s all on foot. Groups are capped to 20 and accept tourists of all ages.
Jermyn Street Fashion Walk
A seriously professional private tour to match your preferences. Groups are recommended no larger than eight, and it’s all done on foot. Most of the guides, who lead the Jermyn Street walk, have a background of art, history or fashion, and one even trained as a tailor.
Historic Pubs, Food & Beer Tour
Think of this as a walk with friends rather than a tour (groups are capped at 12). You meet at a best selfie spot — at Rotherhithe, overlooking the Thames — then catch the overground train to the pubs. By reservation only. Five of London’s most historic pubs in four hours is not an easy but worthwhile task.
East End Walks
East End Walks is a collection of 15 tours run by one man, David Rosenberg. The tours cover the social history of the traditionally working class area. Groups are capped at 30. You meet near the subway station. Rosenberg, whose grandparents moved to the East End as children, loves the area and its social history a lot — it holds the story of the working class, which is rarely told.
1.Which tour best suits people who are interested in the history of the working class?
A. Tour for Muggles
B. Jermyn Street Fashion Walk
C. East End Walks
D. Historic Pubs, Food & Beer Tour
2.What do the four walking tours have in common?
A. They limit the number of a group.
B. They have professional guides.
C. They are private tours to your preference.
D. They recommend reservation in advance.
3.Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A news report.
B. A travel brochure.
C. A geographic magazine.
D. A history textbook.
【答案】1. C 2. A 3. B

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·河北保定河北定州中学·期中)In Spain, children and their families are riding bikes to school together in large groups. The program is called “bicibús” or bike bus. In Barcelona, the program started recently with only five children and grew quickly to hundreds of riders.
This fall, children in the Eixample area of Barcelona have a new way to get to school on Fridays — they ride their bikes. In September, a group of five children began biking to school with their parents on Fridays. Soon the group grew to 150 or more. The bike bus begins around 8:25 every Friday morning. The route it will follow is always posted ahead of time, so everyone knows where to join.
Instead of riding in bike lanes (道) or on sidewalks, the bicibús takes over the entire street. The commute (通勤) of these bikers takes about 25 minutes. And with the ever-growing cycling and skating kids taking part in this bike bus culture, the local police are helping stop traffic by riding in front of the bicibús and behind it. This further makes the parents happy that the additional security means their children will travel safely to school.
With music playing and bike bells ringing, the bicibús feels like a party. “The best part of the bicibús is that we ride along and pick up my friends and we ride together,” nine-year-old Maria Pitarch says.
Some parents have made the bicibús the way they get to work on Friday. Parents are hoping that the bicibús will help change ideas about how people can get around in the city. They want the city to create wider, kid-friendly bike lanes that are separate from car traffic. They point out that the bicibús also helps cut down on pollution.
Recently, pictures and videos of the Eixample bicibús got a lot of attention on the social media site. Many people pointed out what a simple idea it is, and how easy it is to get started. Already some other areas in Barcelona are also organizing bike buses.
1.What can we learn about the bicibús?
A. It has a free schedule.
B. Its path is made known in advance.
C. It takes over the whole sidewalks.
D. Its safety is a concern for parents.
2.Why does the author mention Maria Pitarch in paragraph 4?
A. To introduce more about the bike bus.
B. To encourage readers to join the bike bus.
C. To praise the performance of the kids.
D. To show the enjoyment kids get from the program.
3.What do the parents expect the local government to do?
A. Cut down on pollution.
B. Focus on traffic problems.
C. Build safer bike lanes for kids.
D. Improve the bicibús program.
4.What is the public’s attitude toward the bike bus?
A. Doubtful. B. Curious. C. Disappointed. D. Supportive.
【答案】1. B 2. D 3. C 4. D

Join us and you can make a difference and help protect biodiversity!
●Best Places to Volunteer
Africa
If you want to experience African wildlife from up close, look at South Africa, Kenya, or Namibia for volunteer projects. Not only do they offer a great amount of wildlife on land, but some of them are also home to many sea animals.
Latin America
If you are interested in volunteering with primates (灵长类动物) in their jungle habitats, look no further than Central and South America. Peru, Brazil and Ecuador all share parts of the Amazon rainforest.
●Who Can Volunteer?
As long as you are willing to learn and treat the wild animals with the necessary respect and care, you are more than welcome to volunteer. It doesn’t matter if you have any related working experience before.
You need to speak at least basic English, the main language spoken at most projects. Some projects in Latin America will ask you to speak basic Spanish.
Besides, volunteer projects working with wild and more dangerous animals accept volunteers aged 18 but there is no age limit upwards — as long as you are physically fit and ready for a challenge, you are the perfect person to volunteer.

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·河北保定唐县第一中学·期中)Growing up in rural (农村的) communities, I always had a love of the countryside, animals and nature. The books I read as a child often had animals at their heart — The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark, Charlotte’s Web.
Farming, however, was something I experienced later in life, in my teenage years. It’s something I instantly connected with, and I feel fortunate that my children have been able to grow up helping out on the farm and spending lots of time with our livestock and pets.
It’s so important to get a connection with farming at an early stage. We all eat food, so being familiar with where it comes from and what goes into producing it is a natural thing. If a spark of interest can be ignited early, it can only be a good thing going forward. It’s a joy to see the children’s faces light up on school visits when they see the photos of animals on our family farm and watch the video of an egg hatching (孵化). Animals have a unique magic all of their own.
Being around animals also teaches children what they can take with them into adulthood. It builds foundations of responsibility, kindness, as well as perseverance and problem solving. We work together as a family a lot on the farm, which builds a strong work ethic and a sense of teamwork — both fantastic life skills.
I’m a firm believer that you don’t know what you’re going to love until you try it. My hope is that if children from non-rural backgrounds get a taste of what it’s like on a farm, then they might discover something they love.
1.How does the author lead into the topic?
A. By showing his desire to keep animals.
B. By recommending his childhood reads.
C. By sharing his own experience with nature.
D. By comparing his farm life with his children’s.
2.What does the underlined word “ignited” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Awakened. B. Expressed. C. Weakened. D. Kept.
3.What role does an early contact with farming play in children’s growth?
A. A time killer.
B. A character builder.
C. A social connector.
D. An emotional comforter.
4.Which statement does the author probably agree with?
A. Well begun is half done.
B. What pains us shapes us.
C. Actions speak louder than words.
D. Interest starts with practice.
【答案】1. C 2. A 3. B 4. D

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·河北沧州南皮县第一中学·期中)The Chinese version of TikTok, Douyin, is introducing a “teenage mode” that will limit the amount of time to 40 minutes a day for children under the age of 14 who spend on the short-form video app. It will also be unavailable to those users between 10 p. m. and 6 a. m. The measures will apply to all Douyin users under the age of 14 who have registered using their real names, its company announced in a statement on Saturday.
The company also encourages parents to help their children use real names, or they can set the “teenage mode”. The app will also introduce new content, ranging from science experiments and museums to art exhibition and natural scenery, to inspire younger teens.
Experts remark that limiting the usage of Douyin is an active measure which is of great benefit to minors (未成年人). The decision will push other Internet platforms with short videos to consider setting similar limits. Self-management and voluntary change of the platforms can make them more socially responsible.
Douyin had at least 490 million users in November 2020, according to a media research firm. The Chinese government has already started pressuring tech companies to control the large amount of time minors spend on their services. In June, China changed the Minor Protection Law, which requires Internet service providers —including social media apps—to “set up corresponding (相关的) functions such as time management, content restriction and consumption limits for minors.”
Last month, China prevented online gamers under the age of 18 from playing on weekdays and limited their play to just three hours most weekends. A series of measures have been taken to further ensure the safety of businesses focused on the next generation, from a heavy hit on after-school classes to rules for online gaming and videos.
1.What will the company of Douyin do with its teenage mode?
A. Limit the time for children to use Douyin.
B. Encourage parents to use their real names.
C. Allow children to use Douyin after 10 p. m.
D. Attract more children to watch online videos.
2.Which opinion will the experts agree with probably?
A. Limiting usage of Douyin is of little significance.
B. The measures won’t have effects on other platforms.
C. The self-management of the Internet platforms is enough.
D. The Internet platforms should take more responsibilities.
3.What can we infer about tech companies from paragraph 4?
A. They wanted to take the place of Douyin.
B. Their business should follow the new law.
C. They refused to set up corresponding function.
D. Their influence was discovered by media research firms.
4.What’s the main purpose of the government’s measures?
A. To encourage online games.
B. To protect the next generation.
C. To develop advanced technology.
D. To reduce the kids’ learning pressure.

(25-26高一上·河北六校联合体·期中)In recent years, an increasing number of young people in China are choosing the path of entrepreneurship. Driven by passion, innovation, and a desire for independence, they are starting their own businesses fresh out of university or even before graduation.
Li Ming, a 22-year-old graduate from Hunan University, is one such example. Instead of applying for a traditional job, he launched a startup that develops eco-friendly packaging solutions. “I saw the problem of plastic pollution and wanted to be part of the solution,” Li said. His company now works with several local restaurants and ecommerce shops, providing them with biodegradable materials.
However, the journey is not smooth. Young entrepreneurs often face challenges such as a lack of experience, limited funding, and intense market competition. To support them, the government and various organizations have launched startup incubators (孵化器) and funding programs. These initiatives offer mentoring, office space, and sometimes financial aid to help young ideas grow into successful enterprises.
Despite the difficulties, the spirit of youth entrepreneurship is vital for economic growth. It encourages innovation, creates job opportunities, and brings fresh ideas to the market.
1.What is the main reason for Li Ming to start his business?
A. To follow his university’s advice.
B. To address an environmental issue.
C. To make more money than his peers.
D. To escape the competitive job market.
2.What does the underlined word “biodegradable” in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Expensive and luxurious.
B. Able to decay naturally.
C. Strong and durable.
D. Made from recycled plastic.

D. Traditional jobs are better than starting a business.
【答案】1. B 2. B 3. B 4. C

(25-26高一上·河北保定河北定州中学·期中)At just 19 years old, Akiša Peters teaches at the Sisseton Wahpeton tribal College. He specializes in a language that is thousands of years old, the Dakota language, spoken by the Dakota people.
“The Dakota language is ‘the most important aspect’ of Dakota culture. Without it, our Dakota culture would no longer exist.” Peters claimed. “I was lucky to grow up around many first-language Dakota speakers. But now the elderly continually passed away and at the end of their lives, they just wanted to know their families would continue to have the language. One of the problems our people have is finding ways to get at-length and ongoing exposure (接触) to the language.”
Aside from instructing at the college level, Peters uses social media to share videos that connect humor, culture, and basic-level conversation to help teach Dakota. In his free time, he visits Dakota elders. He also started an online group of youth to share the knowledge of the language in a safe and supportive space.
Akiša Peters wants to tell the youth that if they want to learn their own language, sit with their elders and learn from them. Endless vocabulary sheets could discourage them from learning. Standards created by non-speakers could also do that. “Within the next decade, I believe my colleagues, other Dakota-learning relatives and I will have children and start a new generation of Dakota. I also hope my brothers and sisters will take the path we laid out for them and continue to learn and speak Dakota. On my reservation there are numerous young people working on the comeback of the language. I’m hopeful because I’m definitely not alone.” Akiša Peters told Teen Vogue.
1.Why does Akiša Peters teach the Dakota language?

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·河北沧州南皮县第一中学·期中)Best Walking Tours in London
London is one of the most walkable capital cities in the world. People may think you’re mad if you drive a car around town.
There’s one subway ride (LondonBridge to Westminster) but otherwise it’s all on foot.

D. A history textbook.

D. Supportive.

(25-26高一上·河北NT20名校联合体·期中)Wildlife Conservation Volunteering
Wildlife conservation volunteering plays an important role in protecting endangered species like elephants from disappearing due to habitat (栖息地) loss. Opportunities at rescue centers or reserves include caring for injured wildlife, observing species for research, and anti-poaching (反偷猎) efforts.

A. To enrich his experience.
B. To record its written form.
C. To prevent it dying out.
D. To make it known globally.
2.What can we say about Akiša Peters according to paragraph 3?
A. Learned. B. Creative. C. Stressful. D. Expert.
3.What does Akiša Peters expect the young people to do?
A. Deal with vocabulary sheets.
B. Keep to the given standards.
C. Communicate with their elders.
D. Learn from their teachers.
4.Which section of a website is the text probably taken from?
A. Culture. B. Business. C. Fashion. D. Research.
