For many Chinese learners, it might be just difficult to remember and write Chinese characters(汉字).However,American student Lena sees them in a special way. To her, each Chinese character tells its own story.
In Lena's eyes, Chinese characters are more than characters. The character “ren”(meaning“person”) seems a cat's mouth,“ceng”(meaning“once”) is like the shape of an angry robot, and the traditional form of “wu”(meaning“nothing”) lets her think of a sheep easily.
Last March, Lena tried to draw Chinese characters for the first time and shared her creative drawings online. She never expected that they could spread so quickly and received 40,000 likes overnight, having led to heated discussions about language, art, and even cultural exchange.
Some people say that Lena seems to understand the beauty of Chinese characters even better than many Chinese people.“It is because you all are used to seeing the characters,”she said, adding that the opposite is also true. For example, she learned from her Chinese friends that the word “orz” looks like a person kneeling(跪下) and bowing, so it has got really popular on Chinese social media, carrying this meaning. However, in English, it carries no meaning.
Now, Lena plans to share more drawings online. Her story shows that language is more than just about words—it's about connections and seeing the world through someone else's eyes.“I hope more people can look at their own language in new ways and discover its creativity and beauty,” said Lena.
11.What does Lena think of Chinese characters according to paragraph 2?
A. They carry beautiful meanings.
B. They look like different objects.
C. They all have links with animals.
12.What does the character “ren” look like in Lena's eyes?
A. B. C.
13.How did Lena feel after sharing her drawings online?
A. Hopeful. B. Proud. C. Surprised.
14.According to Lena, why can she find beauty in Chinese characters?
A. Because she is creative.
B. Because they are new to her.
C. Because they are similar to English words.
15.What is the passage mainly about?
A. The art of Chinese characters.
B. The importance of cultural exchange.
C. A creative way to explain Chinese characters.

Many students in Guangdong find learning English difficult, but they often overlook a special skill they already have:being bilingual(双语) in Cantonese and Putonghua.
Zhang Tingting, a 14-year-old girl from Guangzhou, is a perfect example. “I've spoken Cantonese at home ever since I was little, but I use Putonghua at school,” she explained.“We are now encouraged to use Putonghua in classrooms, and it's natural for students to speak Putonghua even during class breaks.”
This is common for many local students. However, with more students from other parts of China moving to Guangzhou, the use of Cantonese is falling. A report shows that now only about 40 percent of students in Guangzhou can fully understand their local dialect(方言). As a result, Putonghua is often heard even during school breaks.
This situation has raised concerns. Many people are worried that the local culture is dying as the dialect is no longer popular.“The most vivid words and expressions are born of dialects,” noted a language expert. Zhang Tingting fully agrees with his idea. She sometimes finds it strange and difficult to express certain Cantonese phrases in Putonghua, feeling that something of the local culture may be lost.
Fortunately, officials in Guangdong have found this problem. ▲ As we all know, some primary schools in Shanghai have asked students to speak the Shanghai dialect four days a month. Inspired by Shanghai, starting from this year, there are almost 30 Guangzhou kindergartens encouraging children to speak their local dialect during breaks.
Of course, spreading Cantonese doesn't mean refusing Putonghua. Instead, it helps create a multicultural environment where local expressions make our communication richer and more lively.
16.What special skill do many students in Guangdong have?
A. They can speak English very well.
B. They are able to speak both Cantonese and Putonghua.
C. They find it easy to learn Cantonese and Putonghua.
17.What's the main trend(趋势)of the Cantonese usage among students in Guangzhou according to the passage?
A. B. C.
18.What does the underlined word“vivid”mean in English?
A. Common. B. Lively. C. Useful.
19.Which of the following can be put in“ ▲ ”in Paragraph 5?
A. They are still looking for a good solution.
B. Many students are unable to speak their local dialect now.
C. And they have taken action to save their dialects now.
20.Which can be the best title for this passage?
A. We Are Bilingual Talents B. Dialects Are Popular
C. Save Dialects

五、任务型阅读(5小题,共10分)
In recent years, learning English as a second language at school has become important. English language learners often have challenges in three aspects (方面): pronunciation, vocabulary, and spelling. The biggest problem is that they canˈt deal with some new words. Most students think playing word games is a fun way to learn new words. Here are three other strategies (策略) for learning them.
Strategy 1: Context (语境)
Do you stop your reading when you find an unknown word? The most common way to understand a word is to use the context to guess the wordˈs meaning. You should try looking at what comes before and after the word, or you can look for some words you have already learnt. Once you have thought about them, you will know what the word probably means.
Strategy 2: Dictionaries
You can choose between traditional paper dictionaries and more convenient online dictionaries. When you are looking up a word, pay attention to its pronunciation, different meanings, parts of speech, and example sentences. Example sentences can give you a better understanding of how the word is used in context.
Strategy 3: Word Parts
If you are trying to know the meaning of a new word, you should try looking at its parts. This strategy is helpful when you look at familiar parts in a word because you use what you know about these words and the text. For example, the prefix (前缀) “un-” usually means “not”, so you can guess that “unhappy” means not happy.
By using these strategies, you can improve your ability to learn unknown words, and your English will be better.

六、范文
Good afternoon, everyone! Among all the subjects, I do best in English. Now I'd like to share my secrets to learning this subject well.
First, I always take an active part in class. I believe the best way to gain new knowledge is to listen to the teacher carefully and think actively. This way makes it easier to keep the knowledge in mind. Second, I try to use and review what I've learned whenever I can. For example, after learning a new grammar rule, I often practise making more sentences with it. Third, I make English learning interesting by watching English movies, reading English novels, and listening to English songs.
I think these methods are useful and practical, and I hope they can help you as well. Learning is a lifelong journey. Let's work together to make the journey more effective and enjoyable!
Thank you.
